Why The Florida Panthers Are WAY BETTER Than You Think

As mentioned, the Florida Panthers are your President’s Trophy winners for the first time in franchise history. The first ever postseason meeting between the two Florida clubs ends with a lightning victory. This is the biggest trade ever. Maybe not ever, but this has got to be one of the biggest trades, if not the biggest trade of the salary cap era because the Calgary Flames trade Matthew Kachchuck and a conditional fourthround pick, you can’t forget the conditional fourth round pick to the Florida Panthers. In exchange, the Calgary Flames acquire Jonathan Hubedo, defenseman McKenzie Weaguer, forward prospect Cole Schwint, and a conditional. You can’t forget the conditional first round pick in 2025. I’m a little disappointed with the Panthers. They are a soft team and they are getting everything they deserve right now. The Silver Trophy to the Golden Knights. The Florida Panthers repeat as Eastern Conference champions and will head back to the Stanley Cup final. For the first time in their history, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup champions. Florida Panthers for the third consecutive season are heading to the Stanley Cup final. Dynasties are not uncommon in the NHL. In fact, look no further than the past 15 years or so. In the early 2010s, the Patrick Kane and Jonathan TA’s Blackhawks dominated the league, winning three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013, and then 2015. The next two Stanley Cups were dominated by Crosby, Malin, and the Penguins, 2016, 2017. And don’t forget, they won a cup back in 2009. To end the decade, we saw the Tampa Bay Lightning go to three cup finals, winning two back-to-back in 2020 and 2021 before losing in 2022. But still, three teams who consistently reach the heights of their potential. Not too bad and pretty common in this era of hockey. Many believe that the era of dynasties could come to an end for this league, especially with the amount of parody that exists today. But just as one chapter of hockey closes, a new one is ready to take its place. The Florida Panthers are heading back to their third consecutive Stanley Cup finals with a chance to repeat in what either will be or is a rematch against Conor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. But how did the Panthers go from a slightly above average franchise to a dynasty overnight? And how did they crack the code to get past some of the top teams across the league? Well, today let’s break down the Florida Panthers to uncover the secrets behind their success. The Florida Panthers steamrolled their competition in the Eastern Conference. Realistically, not even breaking a sweat through most of those matchups. But now with the team back in the finals, let’s talk about what’s brought them success this year and also give you a bit of a recap of each series to kind of explain how the Panthers got to this point. In the opening round, the Panthers would face their intrastate rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The odds to win in this series were pretty split from the start. The Lightning had an incredible season, finishing second in the Atlantic and being one of, if not the best offensive teams of the regular season. Meanwhile, Florida, coming off back-to-back finals runs, was expected to have some fatigue despite reloading at the deadline, adding two very pivotal pieces. In game one, Matthew Kachchuck led the charge with two goals and an assist, propelling the Panthers to a six-2 victory. Game two, it was the Sergey Babroski Show who delivered a stellar performance, stopping 19 shots to lead the Panthers to a 2- shutout win, taking both games on the road against Tampa. Despite a setback in game three, where the Lightning secured a 5 to1 win, the Panthers rebounded strongly. In game four, Anton Lundell contributed a goal and an assist aiding in Florida’s 4-2 victory. And the series concluded in game five with E2 Looster Rinan’s four-point performance, leading the Panthers to a 6-3 win and a 4-1 series finale. This looking back should have been a telling sign for teams in the East. Tampa, a team who not long ago ran the Eastern Conference, just got destroyed by their biggest rival in a dominant manner, shifting most of the hockey world’s opinion on fatigue affecting this Panthers lineup. Advancing to the second round, the Panthers would have to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs, who surprisingly have given them the most run for their money throughout the playoffs so far. This series was competitive. Toronto would take the first two on their home ice, coming out the gates hot, but Florida’s resilience and ability to respond would show up yet again. They’d crucial wins in games 3, four, and five with a commanding 6 to1 victory to take a series lead 3-2. This completely shifted the momentum back in Florida’s favor. At least that’s what everyone thought. Toronto would go out and have their best road performance of the playoffs, shutting out the Cats and forcing them to fly back to their barn for a game seven. While momentum was finally in Toronto’s favor again, they would end up doing the most leafy thing imaginable, lose game seven on home ice without really putting up a fight six to1, giving the Panthers a trip back to the Eastern Conference Finals. Eastern Conference Finals. Like I said, we have a rested Carolina team and sort of a fatigued Florida team. At least that’s what we all thought. They’re coming off a long series with the Maple Leafs while the Canes are coming off a fivegame one to the Washington Capitals. But the first three games, they were dominated by the Panthers. They won two on the road in a very convincing fashion and then took game three to basically shut this series down. People have been saying that this was an easy Eastern Conference Finals opponent, but I disagree. Carolina is a good team and likely would have beaten any other opponent had they met in the East, but Florida, they’re just on a whole other level. The Canes entering game four were a shocking zero and 15 in their last 15 ECF games. But thankfully, they got one win to ease some of the embarrassment just a few days before ultimately losing in game five. So, here we are today. The Florida Panthers are back in the Stanley Cup finals preparing to face off what will probably be their greatest test of this year’s postseason. But to me, I think there’s a combination of things that got the Panthers to this position. Offensive depth is the first thing we’ll talk about today. The Panthers scoring was distributed across multiple lines with no one player needing to be the hero every game. This is what makes the Panthers so special. One night it could be Kachchuck and Bararkov and the next it could be Marshian, Bennett, Lucinan. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re getting scoring from your lineup just to win in the end. The Panthers don’t really care. Next is defensive stability. You’re going to have a hard time finding a team who plays better defense than the Florida Panthers. Maybe Carolina, but Florida kind of dummy them. So, it shows you they’re just on another level. Now, the addition of Seth Jones, Forsling, and Eklad, those are three big physical guys who make it very impossible for you to enter their zone. And when you have this next thing, a guy like goalie Bob behind you, it’s kind of going to be a tough team to beat. Now, I don’t feel like there is much else to say about Babski. He continues to have quiet confidence, putting up excellent performance after excellent performance, providing the team with timely saves, and giving them the confidence to play aggressively, which has been a huge part of their game plan. The last thing we need to touch on is special teams. While I believe the Florida Panthers are one of the best five-on-ive teams in the playoffs, I think their special teams is just what separates them from some of the other top teams. Their power play is within the top of the playoffs, and their penalty kill is the best one right now. So, I think any team you play against, you’re not only going to struggle playing against the Panthers 5v5, but you don’t want to take any bad penalties because they’ll make you pay for it. But that’s my kind of coverage of the Florida Panthers. I think realistically this is a team effort from coaching all the way to the backup goalie. I think everyone has done their part and I think that they’re set to not only potentially repeat but put on a pretty convincing show in the finals. Now, depending on who they’re going to play, I think it’s going to be Edmonton. I’ll have to do a separate breakdown to see who I’m going to pick in the end. But as far as the Eastern Conference goes, it’s going to be running through Florida until further notice. But let me know what you guys think about the Florida Panthers, their dominant playoff run, and whether or not you think they’re going to be winning the Stanley Cup again this year. 1. They're as good as I think they are. Solid hockey team that gets away with penalties. What other hockey team gets away with setting up screens like a basketball!?

  2. The secret is dale tallon yet again drafted pretty well with Barkov and Ekblad with some other pieces. Bill zito fine tuned the team after that horrendous sweep against the lightning in 2022 and hired Paul Maurice which has paid off in a massive way. Getting forsling off waivers Mikkola etc has helped this team maintain a level of dominance we haven’t see n in quite some time

  3. The Panthers will dispose of the
Oilers in 5 games, while having fun, joking around, eating DQ blizzards in between periods while the rest of league comes up with all kinds of hilarious complaints about the Cats and excuses why they are so stacked and how unfair it is. Only to have all their FA sign extensions next year, several players take pay cuts to bring in Mitch Marner and all hell will break loose. McDavid will be the Dan Marino of the NHL as the GOAT without a Championship and Edmonton will be considered the Buffalo Bills of the NHL when they lose 4 straight Cups to the Cats. Cats Dynasty. Over/Under 4.5 Cups

  4. I still haven’t seen anyone talk about the panthers’ road vs home pp% at home it’s at an awful 3.6% while on the road it’s at 43% it’s a bit fortunate that the panthers will be the road team then.

  5. Panthers are the most stacked and well rounded team in the playoffs but apparently we have to forget about that because the media on their knees for the Oilers.

  6. I love the Panthers gameplay and attitude. They play with determination and grit every time it counts. I hate how the sports media is all over the Oilers dick. I rarely hear the media talk good about the cats. Even the fact that they're the defending champs most media pundits don't give the Pamthers credit and completely write them off. Good! That's the motivation we need. Panthers in 6.

  7. Also I've been saying this about the Panthers. They have depth. Each player on the roster shows up when it matters. The oilers have two great players and a decent goalie…

  8. It’ll be a great rematch. Edmonton could 100% win this series with ease. Their speed and breakouts are going to be a problem. We want our 2nd cup. Go Cats.

It’ll be interesting to see how we handle their speed. Barkov and Bob lead the way.

  9. the Panthers will get shocked by the oilers in the first two games after a cakewalk in the East. The Oilers have faced far harder competition in the Kings, Knights, and Stars. Our home record these playoffs is 12-1, I think the panthers might add some resistance, but otherwise, Oilers in 6 or 7

  10. I've been a fan of this team since the very beginning 1993-1994 🐀💯 been through a lot of highs n lows (mostly lows) toil sweat and tears and FINALLY we have built and developed ourselves into a freakin POWERHOUSE. GM Bill Zito must be credited largely with the roster being what it is. deft and crafty drafting, trading and FA signings. we have literally 3 offensive lines that can produce in nearly any on-ice conditions and the D is stacked. Captain Aleksander Barkov is the Ip Man of the Panthers. quiet, unassuming but lets his talking be done on the ice where he absolutely schools people.

…sorry not sorry but fans like me deserve this time for we have earned it and so have the Panthers❤‍🔥LET"S GOOOOOO

  11. Let’s not overlook that there are no other two teams geographically further apart than the Panthers and Oilers
    Deservingly earning the Stanley Cup
