Karlsson & Barbashev for Marner was close between the Vegas Golden Knights & Toronto Maple Leafs

would VGK give up $10 million in cap space to acquire Mitch Mner that’s our main topic right here on Locked on Golden Knights you’re Locked On Golden Nights your daily podcast on the Vegas Golden Knights part of the Locked On Network your team every day hi again everyone tony Kredasco and Chris Gooic from Las Vegas thanks for making us your first listen every day of course we are the only daily VGK podcast and of course I am a longtime sports cer a marketing consultant to the stars and the host of the Believe in Vegas podcast and he is Chris Collic chris is the owner of Silver State cards and sports and collectibles editor for the hockey news now coming up ahead on today’s show more interest and more news in Mitch Mner to Vegas so we’ll talk about that from the top and then later on we’ll have zero Jack Adams consideration for Bruce Cassidy and we’ll also recap the Panthers versus Edmonton and a lot of penalties and that one I said stay out of the stinking box we are brought to you today by Game Time download the Game Time app today use that promo code locked on NHL and you’ll get $20 off of your first purchase so Chris more news keeps coming out as Kelly Mcrimin apparently is pulling out several stops or has already in an effort to acquire Mitch Marner to Vegas so the latest James Myrtle said that the trade deadline deal which we thought was just a straightup dealer for Miko Rantin Carolina and Toronto those trade talks which Marner reportedly turned down as it turns out we now find out from Myrtle that VGK was included in the deal and it would have been a combination of $10 million in cap space to Carolina and it would have been perhaps two of three players Ivan Barbashef Tomas Hurdle and William Carlson every day we have new updates in Martner to Vegas yeah I mean it’s it’s interesting and Mcrimman made the comment I believe at the start of deadline week didn’t expect the goallet to be major players at the deadline remember that well yeah he was he was kicking the tires he was kicking the tires here and again this just reeks of the Jack Eel situation where it seemed like it was happening and then it kind of got quiet and then it started then all of a sudden it basically happened so if there’s one thing we know at least as of this moment it’s there is interests in much more than just okay this sounds like a nice thing there is genuine interest and desire to bring Mitch Mar to Vegas right now so William Carlson we go back to locker day cleanout and he said that this was a wasted season so I think a lot of what his comments were cuz he’s very emotional as we’ve seen in the past i think he was upset now that he is in all these trade talks suddenly i mean welcome to the NHL as a 32year-old winger getting a contract that’s maybe a little more generous than it should be right now um I think that’s the starting point and listen this is what you get when you’re a Golden Knight this is exactly what you sign up for to be fair William Carlson signed this contract before they became the evil empire so to speak um but nowadays Medieval Empire Medieval Empire my bad um this is just part of what it’s like being and not just the Golden Knight but in the National Hockey League in Vegas I think the temperature is a little bit hotter once you get to this stage of your career aka Jonathan March so obviously so you know you take the good with the bad william Carlson scored a total of 13 goals or something like that in the previous two seasons and then he comes in and gets 40 goals and he gets a nice contract and he’s got a Stanley Cup in a wonderful situation so good on him but in the same breath this is the time when if there’s a deal to be made to improve the Golden Knights Kelly Mcrimin will trade any any asset that makes sense for the first time we hear Tomas Hurdle’s name mentioned in trade talks in trade rumors and again we have to point to the fact that everyone is expendable on this team except for Jack Eel um was number one on that list for a long time right number one by far and now Hurdle and I think Hurdle’s got all sorts of no trade uh clauses in his contract uh but it’s the first name time that his name popped up and I think we’re we’re right on point here because we’ve been saying we did that one show here are players that we feel could be gone and our list was pretty much Hey of course which he’s definitely gone um Carlson and Barbashef were our top three for crime hurdle according to Puckedia has a modified no trade clause but it doesn’t give any details like if you hover over William Carlson it says he has a 10 teamer and Barbashev has an 18 team no trade clause so I know the specifics of the no trade clause for Tomas Hurdle and I don’t know if Hurdle I mean it just it just seems strange where the Golden Knights and not just the Golden Knights but anyone would flip an asset that quickly after trading for them when they have that type of contract colonel is under contract at 6.75 until the end of the 2028 29 season and don’t get me wrong I don’t think a lot of people would be overly upset if a deal was made involving involving um uh Tomas but I mean listen I don’t see I think you got to just take a step back for a second we got to take a step back coach Cassidy likes strength down the middle all right number one mhm number two you’re not trading Carlson and Hurdle getting ready for playoff run hang on $10 million it needed to total 10 million so you have Barbers is the answer to that question barbers Carlson Hurdle what two of the three would you trade because that pretty much amounts to Barbashev you you cannot trade Hurdle in that circumstance because Okay so it would be Barberh and Carlson is what you’re saying yes pretty much okay yeah that’s 10 point yeah that equates to 10 point 10.9 that equates to 10.9 million um you can’t The second center would be Nick Wah the third center would be Brett How and the fourth center would be Yonis Ron if that were to happen and that certainly wouldn’t unless unless McCurman had another rabbit up his or another card another ace of spades up his sleeve or something like that rabbit in the hat they can put what pun to use right there so you know some of this you got to take with a grain of salt but what we have learned if there’s one takeaway right now Marner to Vegas is in play and it’s something that Kellyman wants to happen yeah happen and I think that Krimman’s best shot to do this is in the next 21 days or 20 days before July 1st starts yeah without a doubt without a doubt and then we keep seeing rumors and Carlson’s name circulating and yesterday there was and again we know exactly how this organization runs because they definitely get the word out they test the waters jay Fresh yesterday talking about perhaps uh hey VK shopping Carlson oh he’d be a great fit in St louis so now again I think you know seriously u VGK is willing to give up Barb Carlson and who knows what else but they’re trying vigorously to get this deal done and every time I see more rumors out there the Kings are big players and Anaheim is a big player because they have so much money and they can pay Martner up to 14 million yeah I mean this is this is I mean it’s it’s June the 10th and it’s still interesting and the topic still kind of fall the sky for the show right now so that tells you all you need to right now about the VGK off season and I think this is a little more exciting than the last VK off season because we felt that the all the the hoopla that needed to happen happened at the deadline last year when the Golden Knights got Hannah Finn and Hurdle um Hurdle had some really good pockets and he really shined I I would say in the second half of the last regular season and kind of became a ghost unfortunately come playoff time um so you wonder what Hurdle’s long-term situation is and the fact that um he’s only on the hook for 6.7 i think uh the Sharks are keeping are holding 17% of that all the way yeah 17% is retained by the Sharks all the way through the end of that contract so you get a little bit of a deal um should anyone take on Tomas Hurdle in his contract yeah and I’m just wondering too what the demeanor of especially like a Carlson will be kind of pissy I think if he comes back to play for VK if he knows that they’ve been shopping him around coming up next Bruce Cassidy spurned in the Jack Adams voting we’ll talk about that much more on the way right here on this edition of Lockdown Golden Nights you just realized that your business needed to hire Gollik reporting we appreciate you making us your first listen every day and of course please subscribe to our Lockdown Golden Knights YouTube channel it is hard to believe Chris that Bruce Cassidy didn’t even receive one vote not one vote in the balloting for the Jack Adams award spencer Carberry won the award welld deserved there cassidy I think was runner up a couple of times in his career he won it back in 2020 with Boston and he led VGK to the Pacific Division title this past season so why no respect i think we’ll start by looking at this list here in the and Carberry Arnold St st louis uh Montgomery Edmonson Travis Green that’s those those top six no one else is getting into that top six right there and then Jim Hiller at eights I think is fine bedar about that yeah of Hiller i’m not a big fan of Hiller again he finished below VGK in the standings okay go ahead yeah i mean and they had a lot of injury issues last year the Kings did and he still did okay bubble played with all depth pieces yeah um Huska for the Flames i think he got enough respect i think that he should have been up there and then you got Dbor Hine so basically the names I would question on this list i’ll start with John Cooper and the reason why I’m going to start with John Cooper at seven is because very similar circumstances for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Vegas Golden Knights um Tampa Bay Lightning lose Stamco everything is okay they do well in the regular season same thing with the Golden Knights they lose Marcho they lose Chandler Stevenson they lose Alec Martinez they lose a gold they lose Logan Thompson etc boom boom boom boom and it was still a nice regular season from coach Cassidy and he certainly gets some respect there and then to be fair outside of John Cooper Bednar Beru Huska Dbor Hines those are local guys throwing a vote for their for their coach trying to maybe look good for their their local media people and stuff like that so you know should Cassidy have gotten one of these ceremonious local boy you know votes or something like that maybe i guess does he deserve to be anywhere near the top six top seven top eight which are pretty cemented no way he needed votes he deserved votes he really did i just go back to uh remember the inaugural presser there when Kelly Mcrimman was asked the question about the power play and he kind of glossed over that and said nah that’s not going to be a problem well this past season it truly was not a problem and you have to talk about the the job that not only Cassidy did but John Stevens who we never he’s a ghost we never see him and Dominic Ducharmm another ghost like I’ve never heard Joel some credit too give Joel Ward some credit too okay we’ll give Joel Ward a little credit too is he still He’s still on the coaching staff I would have to imagine because I haven’t seen Future Endeavors but we’ve never seen him another ghost like they know we’ve never heard from these guys so when I say right we did hear from Stevens around Four Nations this year he does have a voice talking about Cassidy when we’re saying when I’m saying that he I don’t know if he necessarily deserved the a true consideration again a local guy throwing a vote for their coach fine why not why weren’t there why weren’t there they saw this question for for those gentlemen but I mean I’ll see where I’m going with this this is not indicative of the job that Cassidy did i think Cassidy did a really good job last season again I just mentioned a second ago all the the all the pieces that left the Golden Knights were not picked by too many people if anyone to be a Stanley Cup contender to be a division champion to you know have that type of year and the Gold Knights their injuries were relatively under control this year but again you have to give the coaching staff starting with Coach Cassidy a lot of credit you look at the evolution of Jack Eel who continues to take more steps forward coach Cassidy gets a lot of respect for that um the defense was nowhere near where it should have been from health and performance and I’ll put those separately because it’s not all about the health and the poor performance they’re two separate categories and the goalending had pockets but it wasn’t necessarily the best goalending year although Aiden Hill did have a have have 50 appearances which is good um the goalies you know Samson off and everything it was a lot of questions so Cassidy did get through less adversity maybe than the last couple of seasons but as far as maname loss and that type of thing but Cassidy did a good job with what he had someone’s got to steer the ship he’s the man it’s his it’s his team once uh once that puck drops and once they start practicing so sure should Cassidy have received a vote or two somewhere along the way yes wasn’t anywhere near consideration no his team won the Pacific Division they won it absolutely and they lost a ton of points from a season ago and he had like nothing i didn’t think they were a cup contender he had a bunch of depth pieces which they ended up being a cup contender which is what you know what’s really funny is just again uh Mr deadpan there in mcrimin who’s saying you know at the deadline yeah you know we just didn’t feel we felt like we had all the pieces blah no they were trying to move players again uh it’s tremendous what goes on behind the scenes yeah no I mean John Cooper like like like I said my line is John Cooper and Jim Hiller as far as people that received national attention for this trophy once you get to to Bedar and below that’s just local guys throwing a vote for their coach whether they’re doing it because someone’s telling them to or they’re just doing it to be nice whatever it could cost a PR guy his job you know Carberry Arnold St louis Montgomery Edmonson Travis Green those top six yes 100% john Cooper I think got a little more of the name recognition um again John Cooper very solid year we’re not saying anything negative about the job that he did but I think that’s simply name recognition you’re people always vote for Kale Mar for uh for the the the Norris because of what he’s done and they may not look as closely at what he’s actually done even knowing he’s going to have a magnificent season so that’s about and I’m not I’m not advocating for Cassidy to be number seven overall in the in the Jack Adams either but his name should be on this list i certainly concede that takeaway his name should be somewhere among this top 13 maybe even somewhere in the top 10 do you remember the show that we did and I said that Cassidy deserved consideration for the trophy period period i I just thought he I thought that he did a good enough job there i thought through his own little sort of adversity who knows what else went on behind the scenes yes you know something and injuries and what have you but again with a group just full it’s full of depth pieces like outside of Vel like I don’t know how this team truly pulled it together i don’t I don’t like every day I’m like yeah they had career years from several players there like howen and such and Kolasar yeah and Dorv and yeah they just like were rolling the dice there with this team i just think he did a very good job with the Golden Knights coming up next there were 140 penalty minutes last night kasco said stay out of the freaking box that’s what I said in our preview we’ll talk about our recap when we return right here on Lockdown Golden Knights i almost said a bad word uh there’s nothing like playoff hockey the energy the rivalries the non-stop action with the Stanley Cup playoffs heating up here in the finals there’s never been a better time to see it live and game time makes getting into the building fast and cough okay that’s good uh we appreciate everyone making us your first listen don’t forget Fridays we’ve got WTF day what the Friday that’s what that stands for even though I almost said a bad word on the show and we would have had to have edited it out and on Saturdays don’t forget the Chris Times chris Jr show so the Florida Panthers scored three times on 11 power play opportunities stay out of the box that was the key edmonton played undisiplined and it cost them last night uh the Oilers lose in Florida six to one 21 total penalties amounting to 140 minutes and this was to me shades of an old Edmonton team that we saw maybe a couple of years ago they were so undisiplined uh the best quote of the night was Knoblock they were asking him about the uh the third period and he goes uh you know boys being boys right but he goes in the third period mostly making investments in the next game with all the shenanigans there uh but it was a I mean it’s great when you have every player except for the goalies who should had a goalie fight out there fighting big scraps paul Maurice that’s that’s my takeaway this dude’s just a freaking gem in his interviews and stuff and I think before the game someone asked him was it about Bennett or something like that and or hey I don’t know who he asked who they asked about he’s like yeah we’re trading him he sucks and then in the game I think uh that player whoever they asked about all of a sudden was doing well Jackie Redmond was asking and he said something he has the bubanic flu or something like that no one should want him and you know he’s not that good of a player just it’s so funny and I actually just googled Paul Paul Marie’s quote here so I can find it directly And I didn’t find that one but I found a few other ones here so sometimes you say a prayer sometimes you shotgun a beer that’s kind of our team uh this isn’t the Opra Winfrey show my feelings don’t matter we will uh systematically deconstruct frustrate embarrass and obliterate the Bruins one game at a just I mean Paul Maurice is great he’s so much so much fun here um I do like Nblock’s comments investments into next game uh the game was relatively out of hand before all the shenanigans started and the the Panthers were the one who came unwound first that Anton Lindell penalty at the end of the first led to a power play goal by the Oilers and all of a sudden they’re in that game it’s a it’s a two-1 game and in the amount of time I walked I think to the to the bedroom and back out to the loft to watch the game all of a sudden it’s three to one so you know the Panthers had that response they had that killer instinct and you know this was the game I think that both teams mainly the Oilers but both teams kind of needed to get uh get out of their systems and game four will be about playing hockey and the Oilers it doesn’t change anything in this series the Oilers go to go to South Florida with uh is it South Florida anywhere they played it’s South Florida Sunrise South Florida okay they go to South Florida looking to earn a split and then come back game five uh on level ground and that hasn’t changed anything the outlook of the ies I don’t think changes a whole lot but uh for the Stanley Cup the Panthers now minus 265 I think that’s very generous uh Oilers are plus 215 if the Oilers win game four they become a favorite so I don’t know uh Con Conor McDavid said that I don’t think that we’ve played our best hockey um he said about the defense uh no he said uh yeah that the good hockeyy’s actually coming uh he said that uh Sam Bennett 14 goals in the playoffs and now the K smite leader uh going into the clubhouse turn if you will uh the biggest play so of course uh nothing is going to beat the McDavid play through traffic and the dime of a pass to dry settle but number two on my list would have a bullet would have to be Bennett uh hammers a couple of guys he rams pot Coulson and Clingberg I think and then a turnover and they break out two on none him and Listerinan and he just finishes off the play but that play to me just defines the play of Sam Bennett and just how aggressive he is and just finishing that play there was no stopping him steuart Skinner was a bust man and they beat him what like four times um on the inside post four times um and and I think he gave up did he give up one five hole again i’m so used to him doing that but yeah well game four is coming he’s going to he’ll be on a heater now games four through seven so it’s not going to be the same uh Skinner out there uh Sam Bennett unrestricted free agent Sam Bennett let’s make sure we’re clear about this 28-year-old uh 51 points 41 points 40 points 49 points his last four NHL seasons but just he’s this force out there and type of player that any team would like you see that grit that he brings and you also see his ability to to score goals and finish a three-time 20 goal scorer and then looking at his playoff stats he’s played 104 playoff games for a 28-year-old that’s pretty spectacular 104 playoff games 76 points so all this martyr talk has everyone distracted here sam Bennett’s the man right now it seems like in free agency yeah and uh it was again a very physical game i don’t know what type of game we’ll see in game number four um you look at some of the other shenanigans well the good scrap of the night 931 to go in the game uh Nurse and Gajovich there and you had Schmidt paired up with Connor Brown you had Frederick who started the shenanigans by cross-checking uh Bennett and those two go at it and then there were some other fights later uh there was an incident in which Wallman was spraying water at the Panthers bench there was all sorts of shenanigans going on in that game looking at Sam Bennett here yeah the spraying the water i I saw the spray in the water was great that’s just I mean you you had the the announcers in between the glass just laughing the whole time at that sam Bennett there AFP has him at 6.6 well how much 6 time 6.6 oh that’s on the rise he’s gonna get the bag 78 i was just looking that up that’s funny that you say that yeah i know i was pulling up while you were yapping about all the penalties and stuff right there so you know I mean 6.6 keep it under seven i mean that’s uh you know would you Okay one two three Tomas Hurdle well Eel Hurdle Sam Bennett and maybe even Hurdle down to the third line i don’t know just thinking out loud here for the Golden Knights that’s something else for the napkin someone suggested we should talk about UFA not at some point which I we haven’t had a chance if someone No I know 100% hasn’t been a chance but listen I mean like we said both teams got the fights out of their system they had their moments and everything and Oilers got a little pressure on them it’s uh it’s not a must win we saw them come back from 3 0 so 3-1 is a lot easier um but if the Oilers can get this thing back to level going to Edmonton for game five then you’re going to have a great series here it’s going to be a great series either way i think this thing is going to go going no less than six probably seven at this point let’s go seven same breath if the Panthers uh have the same type of performance then uh by about Sunday we’ll be looking for new topics yeah my big props going to come in the over and the goal by the first period tomorrow yeah it should be done uh Sam Myrtle uh James Myrtle I should say said Sam Bennett has more goals in these playoffs than he’s had in five of his 11 NHL regular seasons sounds like a gold already he’s on a heater we appreciate everyone tuning in thank you so much don’t forget subscribe to our Lockdown Golden Nights YouTube channel and Friday don’t forget it’s WTF day saturday sometimes lights go dim it is the Chris Times Chris Jr show for my man Chris Collic i’m Tony Cordasco from Las Vegas we’ll see you again tomorrow right here on Lockdown Golden Nights and please take care

The Vegas Golden Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Carolina Hurricanes nearly landed a mega-trade last season. Mitch Marner would have landed in Vegas, Mikko Rantanen in Toronto, and Barbashev possibly in Carolina. Should VGK coach Bruce Cassidy have received Jack Adams consideration? The Florida Panthers dominated the Edmonton Oilers in Game three of the NHL Stanley Cup Final.

  1. If Marner wants money he’ll go to the Ducks, if he wants to go a contender then golden knights are the team; go knights go ⚔️⚔️⚔️🔥

  2. Another set-up man, less toughness and grit and playoff pedigree. How would this be an upgrade?

Worried about Karlsson’s demeanor, attitude, and buy in… and the answer is Mitch Marner? LOL. Remember when the others of the core 4 were all over him on the bench for being soft?

  3. Sorry guys, Eichel at least was a playoff unknown in a lousy hockey culture. Marner has been on teams that have had the opportunity to make the playoffs and show their stuff. We never saw playoff Eichel but we do have a big sampling of playoff Mitch Marner. Playoff hockey is gritty, big and tough. Marner has none of those attributes.

McCrimmon would be wagering that Toronto's culture is as poisonous as Buffalo's was at the time of the Eichel trade.

I am fine moving on from Karlsson if it happens to make sense. I do not hang onto a player for nostalgia if the player still has a trade market and is likely in decline.

If Marner comes to Vegas and is a big player in returning to the Stanley Cup Finals. You'll get my video apology.
