ESPN’s Premier NFL Insider Adam Schefter on if Jaire Alexander will come to the Philadelphia Eagles

he’s a very talented young man Yes he is He’s walking me around the new buildings here which I’ve never been to Wow I can’t believe this is the first time that I’m in the new ESPN studios and it’s um it’s something you heard Jack doing lacrosse a few weeks ago I mean like you know he’s a he’s a young broadcaster too So that is great Forget about forget about Jack doing lacrosse Jack is a lacrosse John Damn right What can I say he’s a talented young man handsome young man too So he’s going to uh he’s going to have quite a career for himself Yeah There you go He’s walking me around showing me the place and and he goes “Who you on with?” I said “Andrew and John.” He goes “John K.” He goes “My dad was roommates at John.” There you go How about that that’s so fun Where’ you guys go to school temple University baby That’s Jack That’s what Jack just said Temple There you go Wow There you go Great stuff T for Temple you Chefy There we go Uh all right Adam So mandatory mini camp over for the Eagles Obviously some other teams still having theirs They do mandatory mini camp for more than like 10 minutes Uh some players did not appear to mandatory mini camp One player is not even on a team Jier Alexander released earlier this week by the Green Bay Packers Obviously second corner is an area where we are keeping an eye on here in Philadelphia because there is a position battle there Do you believe there’s any interest from the Philadelphia Eagles and what’s that market like for Gyar Alexander well I I think he’s been waiting to basically get his freedom and he had an offer on the table from the Packers and he could have probably gotten more money there but I think he was interested He was not interested in reworking his contract and taking a pay cut That didn’t interest him I think that he was going to take basically a situation where if if they he he wanted his freedom he was not going to do a rework deal It was either the current contract that existed in Green Bay or be released and choose a spot where he might not make as much but where he would wind up doing a one-year deal and keep his eye on free agency in 2026 if that makes sense Is is sticking it to the Packers do you believe on his agenda you know I I think John what I would say is that is never going to drive a decision That that’s not going to make a player’s decision ever If it happens that there’s a team out there that’s a great situation that’s offering him a fair contract a favorable deal that allows him to become a free agent and they happen to play the Packers great But that that’s not going to drive him to a certain place or not drive him to a certain place That’s not going to happen Any idea of teams that could be in on Gy Alexander because again I’m pretty curious if the Eagles would have interest on that cornerback I you know I don’t have an answer for you specifically about the Eagles Um I I think there were various teams during the off season that expressed interest in him and at that time I don’t believe the Eagles are one Now that was in the form of a trade where you’re taking out his contract It’s a different set of circumstances Um now he’s a free agent Now he can do the deal he wants I I don’t know I haven’t heard one way or another where the Eagles are or not in Um I I I think when there’s a player like a Jay Alexander that gets released every team and every market every fan base say “Oh go get this guy.” without knowing everything that goes into it And so it’s logical to wonder whether Philadelphia will be And maybe they will Maybe they will But I don’t have a specific concrete answer um not having asked that specific question of both sides you know are you interested in Philly is Philly interested in you i have not gotten an answer with that yet I’m excited because of the fact that the Eagles just seem like there is a lot of peace and quiet going on around this team right now and the idea the idea of as they head into camp and this whole Kevin Patulo situation that we’re talking about the new offensive coordinator and implementation there seems like a lot of kumbaya going on what do you think his biggest challenge is in the transition to now being the guy here in Philadelphia probably being the guy that’s probably the challenge you’re coming off a Super Bowl year you’re coming off a season in which you won the Super Bowl and everybody’s gunning for you now and now you got to be the guy And I I I just think that comes with its own set of challenges Just like if you know you took over the number one rated show you got to go be that number one rated show And that that’s not a simple thing to do for him Um but that’s the challenge that’s now in hand for him Chefy how much do mandatory mini camp holdouts actually distract the team curious to get your opinion on that because I’m keeping a close eye on what’s going on with the Commanders the team that the Eagles beat in the NFC Championship game and they have multiple players that sat out during OTAAS or left OTAAS or in this case not going to mandatory mini camp Is that really all that much of a distraction for these teams um I I definitely think it can be The Terry McCorm thing has been going on all off season He has not been there for anything He’s he he not only is a great player but he’s a great person You know he’s somebody that the organization really loves and respects And so I I think everybody’s watching that situation to see how it’s handled He’s got a year left on the deal that’s scheduled to pay him about $19 million for the season We’ve seen some huge wide receiver deals given out this off seasonason to DK Metaf T Higgins Jamar Chase Look I I I do believe at some point in time they’ll figure it out It would take a lot for the two sides not to figure it out and not to get it done but I think in time to figure it’s not a great thing to have during a man camp but I think the players recognize that it’s just a business If it goes on into training camp and he’s not there and it’s still circuit then then it starts to become a distraction Now I again the only analogy I could use is the last couple of years the 49ers dealt with that with dbo Samuel a couple years ago they still went to the Super Bowl then they dealt with Brandon Iayuk last year and the season came apart I don’t know that either situation was directly related to the hold out or disgruntled wide receiver anyway So you could make it anything you want I I think teams in general don’t want these situations and rightfully so you you you want a clean simple easy existence You don’t want any drama and trauma hanging over your team So the more the sooner you get it cleaned up the better it is But I don’t know that it’s going to sink their season I wouldn’t say that Is there a a a thought with the Eagles right now that this team could bring on a bigname free agent and still be able to make sure that they get all of their future like a Jaylen Carter deal that they could take on a big money free agent that Howie could make this thing all work well what’s what is big money how about a Trey Hendrickson i I don’t think so I would say no I don’t think that’s fractal Now sometimes you find opportunities that surface and you’re like you know let’s we squeeze here we squeeze there we get this done But but knowing what I know from the past um conversations with various people at various points during the offseason I would say no that I I don’t see something like that happening I I think that they know all the big deals they have coming up and I think their priority is to pay their own people their homegrown talent and reward it over time and and if you go trade for a player like Trey Hendrickson and pay him upwards of 30 plus million dollars a year that that really is disruptive to everything going on Trey Hendrickson’s an incredible player led the league in sacks last year You don’t need me to tell you that But I just don’t see a move like that in the cars like now Jier Alexander the price are right you’re doing a one-year deal whatever the number is low number with Simon say yeah they could go make that work if that’s what they wanted to do but I have not heard them all of a sudden changing their plan shifting their strategy and going all in on a player like a Trey Hendrickson Shifty sticking in Cincinnati because I’m just curious John mentioned it it’s nice that we have a peaceful mandatory mini camp Everybody showed up That’s great Not only are they dealing with Trey Hendrickson what’s going on with Sheamar Stewart This one has me completely baffled befuddled and I can’t even believe what I what I’ve seen on so many levels because you got your rookie first round draft pick who hasn’t signed He hasn’t signed and he’s still there Now why he’s still there you want to be with your teammates all these I I don’t get that Okay Like if you’re not signed and you’re trying to get a deal done the best statement you could make is not with any words that you could make criticizing the team as he did yesterday saying that it would rather win arguments than games It’s just staying away That’s the best argu Do we hear him saying anything right now no No He’s just staying away Okay Um and I I think that’s to me that’s the way to handle it don’t show up es especially when you’re a rookie especially when you’ve never played a game And Shamar Stewart may be right in many of the points he makes but I don’t believe that it’s his point to make right now Maybe I’m wrong Maybe I’m oldfashioned there Like he hasn’t played a snap in the NFL yet He hasn’t been around that team but a month Am I I mean I understand he’s pissed off rightfully so that they’re trying to give him a clause that nobody should have and he that is unfair and he shouldn’t have that clause and I agree with him and I’m all for his side there But we don’t I don’t think it’s right for an undraft an unsigned rookie first round pick who’s never put I don’t think that’s right for him to be taking shots at the team My bold uh number last year was I told uh Andrew in the audience that we would be planning for an NFC title game uh for the Eagles and that was in the summer when the schedule came out My bold one that I gave out the other day is week 18 against the Commanders will mean nothing to the Eagles It will mean nothing They will be able to rest players and it will the biggest game of the year according to the NFL that that schedule that schedule giant that they put there is going to end up meaning nothing and it’s going to be because of the commanders and the Eagles Well that that wouldn’t surprise me I mean it it’s very hard to pinpoint the significance and importance of a week 18 matchup Very rarely do they meet up and and it’ll be the I’m making this up right the the um Patriots Browns game in week 18 I don’t even know who’s playing but something like that that will turn out to be the game of the week That’s the beauty of the NFL and the beauty beauty of the scheduling Chef we appreciate the time as always man Thanks for moving up and uh we’ll talk to you next week Thank you guys I appreciate having Adam 1. If he can still produce at a high level and can be better then Ringo I'd bring him in on a one year deal just to stick it to Green Bay. Why not? But he's gotta show that he could contribute in this scheme and then when we go to GB later on in the season he can have his revenge game. Ringo would have to be unreliable enough to where we would have no choice but to bring Alexander in though. Otherwise it makes no sense because it would be getting in the way of Ringos growth…

  2. OMG! I wish you ppl would stop with the inane narrative of JA going to Philly!
The Packers are SB contenders, if they released him that says they feel they can get to the SB without him.
What makes you think then the team that won the SB last season without him needs him this season to get to the SB when the team contending for the SB this season let him go?! If that doesn't make sense to you then you don't know the Eagles and definitely don't know football!

  3. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions. I think Schefty, is completely off base with the rookie contract situation in Cincy! Who cares if he hasn’t played a down in the NFL or not, the contract is bogus. What would he do, if he got hurt and his contract got voided bc of injury . Like this kid is making a stand and I think he needs the support of other players around the league as well.
