NFL Trade Rumors That The Atlanta Falcons Could Move In On

[Music] hey everyone welcome on in to an at home edition of Falcons today by chat sports i am happy to be back with you guys here after a little three-week hiatus busy getting married going on a honeymoon and whatnot so on today’s episode you knew me coming back we talk about probably one or two things Kirk Cousins or a trade i promise I’m not actively seeking these headlines but this one’s kind of juicy and even while I was away someone asked me “Hey is this a possibility?” So I thought “All right we’ll save this for when I come back.” But before we talk about that just a quick like kind of housekeeping guideline notes whatnot for what is next on the channel so if you have been you know clicking in and out of the videos a month ago I announced hey I’m going to be making a career change altogether i’m starting my new job actually tomorrow Monday by the way happy Father’s Day to everyone watching um it’s a father um and so for the next four to five weeks or so I agreed to do some at-ome kind of part-time work with Chad Sports while they look for a new full-time replacement for me um I know that there’ve been a couple of different faces of Chad Sports popping on the last few weeks putting videos out for you guys i don’t know who’s going to be the next long-term host whether that’s internal or external so it’s out of my jurisdiction but I thought this would be a good win-win for you guys to get some videos over the next few weeks and for Chat Sports to you know find the right host and not rush something uh because they don’t have someone to bridge the gap a little bit for them so now that we got the boring smoring stuff out of the way and I’ll talk about the wedding and the honeymoon at the end of the video let’s talk about a possible trade for Atlanta now full disclosure I’m not ranking this very highly on my likelihood possibility meter but it’s June 15th there’s about a fiveweek break until training camp gets underway so yeah things are going to get dry let’s just call it what it is there’s not going to be a lot of juicy stories out there and people are going to say slow news day and you know what you’re absolutely right slow news day but this one is unique so let’s dive in here i want to talk about the Cincinnati Bengals first round draft pick Shamir Stewart out of Texas A&M if you’ve been following from a distance let me catch you up to speed on the things here so first off Shamir Stewart first round pick by the Bengals out of Texas A&M a player if you remember pre-draft I was not very high on at all he is the best pound-for-pound athlete in this draft or was in this past draft especially on the defensive line if you were like “Hey you can’t teach speed you can’t teach strength this is your guy.” Um he does not have the greatest amount of production to back up his incredible physical traits though three straight years for the Aaggies with one and a half sacks in each of those three straight years so that’s a little bit just a background on who Shamir Stewart is but why in the world are we talking about trading for the Bengals first round pick from not even two months ago so he has been holding out from all spring practices and those are all completed now right rookie mini camp organized team activities mandatory mini camp why has he been holding out well here’s the drama here’s the tea basically they are having a dispute between some of the language in his contract now rookie contracts are I wouldn’t say set in stone but they’ve got the outline to them and there’s not a lot of wiggle room there but I came across this ESPN article that talked about what the heck is going on here what is the dispute about and I’ll share some of this with you guys as well but let me read it to you according to a source with knowledge of the negoti of the negotiations the sticking point is language in the contract that could void guaranteed money in future years same old Bengals they just hate paying their players money and they try so hard to avoid doing so including we hate the idea of guaranteeing money beyond the first year of your contract which up until Joe Burrow they never did it is what happens when you have an ownership group that makes their money off of the team that is not a good ownership group to have you might not like Arthur Blank but at least he does not rely on Falcons ticket sales and hot dog sales to pay the players on the field because if that’s the case you’re not going to get a you’re not going to get a good product on the field i mean think about the Bengals really quickly the last you know 20 or so years since the you know turn of the century their best years have been with Carson Palmer and Joe Burrow arguably sprinkle Andy Daltton in there and those are guys they are first overall so lucky for them that when they were picking first overall there was an awesome quarterback to be taken but anyway how does Atlanta enter this it’s been five minutes matthew hurry up here here’s where the Falcons I think could maybe probe a little bit would they be interested in trading for Stuart sounds kind of silly because it is silly because this is unheard of trading for a guy who was just taken first round by another team before the season begins that that’s never happened before and I think the last maybe John Elway right from the Colts to the Broncos like Eli and Rivers but this is that was a draft kind of trade this is Uncharted Waters i could I don’t say I could see let’s just explore it because I really can’t see it but I’m open to being wrong it’s happened once or twice before in my life we saw Atlanta let me just at least create maybe a path for how this could happened we saw the Falcons take Jaylen Walker 15 they didn’t think he’d be there they wanted James Pierce in terms of like who would realistically be available walker was available and like we can’t pass on him and then Pierce was still there in the mid20s so they trade it back right we know all this well what if Stuart was their third guy they did some research on Stuart they had him in for a visit if I recall correctly they went to College Station some of this memor is a bit foggy at this point but there was definite sincere interest uh or homework done I should say on Atlanta’s end on Stewart what if he was the third guy they were aggressive enough to trade back into round one to get Pierce would it really be that mind-blowing to see them do that again to go this is a team that saw someone that they wanted and they were willing to give up a future draft pick for him and sure in the draft you got to make decisions but if Atlanta has the capability of taking all three players they wanted would we put it past them i don’t think they would be on top of one another in the depth charge i think Stewart in a three four front is a defensive end whereas Pierce and Walker are going to be outside linebackers it sounds silly because it is silly because teams don’t do this they don’t draft guys in round one and then trade them three months later but Atlanta has shown an aggressiveness for this year already trading back into round one to get Pierce and maybe now they can get the trifecta they can win all three races and they can get Stewart as well when they felt like they could only get one of those three i I would like to think Terry Fontino could be licking his chops right now thinking going into the draft it was these three guys and we’ll see who’s there we’ll be lucky if one of those three is there or we think one will be there turns out two were there and they were like or all three were there and we’re going to go with the guy we didn’t think would be there and then Pierce was still available later on it’s it’s not something I’m going to bet on but it’s something I’m going to watch for not for Atlanta to make an aggressive pursuit but just this entire storyline of Stuart holding out with the Bengals it’s very bizarre um more from this ESPN article uh that I want to share with you guys here um what are the options so let’s go through the timeline here if the Bengals fail to sign Stuart by August 5th 30 days before the start of the NFL’s regular season Cincinnati can’t trade him so that’s kind of one date you got to put in the back of your head if you really want him in Atlanta the next major deadline is November 11th similar to the franchise tag if Steuart has not signed his contract by then he is ineligible to play for the rest of the season okay but at that point I don’t really care after August 5th if Stuart never signs and sits out the season he can reenter the 2026 draft where every team is eligible to pick him except one the Bengals if Stuart were to test NCA rules and attempt to return to college or play in another professional league the Bengals would return would retain his rights so this is going to be a bit of a roller coaster i think both sides are dug in on we’re not giving you guaranteed money if you were to be suspended beyond your rookie year stuart has gone this far and I don’t see him backing down now i don’t really know what to expect out of this but if a trade really does become an option the Falcons are low on ammunition to make a deal they don’t have their first round next year they don’t have their fifth round next year i don’t put the Falcons very high in the likelihood meter there are some other teams that could see have any interest like the Bears they need pass rush help that’s one team that comes to mind but I go back to Fono did make one move up to get a you know additional pass an additional pass rusher he liked a lot what if Stewart was that third guy and he’s like I could get all three i thought I’d get one out of the three and I’m one chess piece away from collecting all three desired draft targets it’d be tough to figure out what a trade could look like i mean you don’t have that first anymore to offer up which I’m assuming Cincinnati would want by the way the Bengals are such an incompetent organization that’s just been covered up by I mean kudos to them some good draft picks like you know Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase but the way they run their business is dreadful but that’s that so we’ll watch for it and hey you should just be thankful that my first video back from the you know wedding and honeymoon was not a Kirk Cousins video um all right we’ll probably talk about him later down the road a little bit so that’s going to do it for us uh the wedding was awesome by the way in case you’re wondering it was a you know perfect day everything went so smoothly there were no hiccups nothing like that we had a blast it was a ton of fun and then afterwards we honeymoon in France we spent a week in the south of France went to Monaco then went to Paris for a couple of nights so had a you know an absolute incredible time and happy to be back it’s going to be a next uh fun next month or so of putting video out videos out for my kitchen while I begin this new job just to make sure you guys are covered off with you know your daily Falcons content so I’ll see everyone later appreciate everyone for tuning in [Music]
