CAREY PRICE TRADE TO THE SAN JOSE SHARKS? MONTREAL CANADIENS TRADE UPDATE
[Music] and the train just keeps chugging along today we’re making a video talking about some Marco Demo comments on TSN 690 radio this is going to be linked in the description it was from earlier today marco Demo joins the morning show to preview the Habs off season and draft plans and while it is a very nice 20minute conversation that talks about a bunch of stuff they talk about the Florida Panthers they talk about the Montreal Canadians they get into a bunch of Habs related discussion there was one very particular footnote that I wanted to dive into here and of course you can tell from the title of the audio hit on TSN’s website itself demo says the Canadians could move Carrie Price’s contract and this is where we dive into a lot of the semantics behind this radio hit the what did he say versus the what did he mean and just some of the other hypotheticals that are tossed out in this conversation so go out there and listen to the radio hit if you want to get the full unadulterated scoop but I’m going to do my best to just kind of summarize what it was that Demo said on the radio essentially they had a conversation about the Canadians and their cap situation and how some folks think that now at this time in the rebuild is the appropriate moment for the Canadians to just start shelling out their money start getting all these guys start putting themselves in a much more competitive spot and Demo goes out there and says that in his opinion the Canadians probably do have it in their best interests to be a little bit more cautious than you would expect because they have only $6 million in cap space in fact the Canadians are the fifth worst team in the NHL when it comes to current space and that’s not that surprising when you consider the fact that they have always been in that LTIR territory the past few years carrie Price’s contract is really big $10.5 million a year he deserves it it’s Carrie freaking Price we all understand that he has been a legend and he has one year left on that contract of his that expires in 2026 but the Montreal Canadians need to be careful not because they have 6 million bucks in cap space but because of those performance bonuses we’d already made a few videos over the past few years talking about how the Canadians had some cap penalties attached to their breakdown because of the performance bonuses hit by some of their young guys and when you’re in the LTIR territory those performance bonuses get applied as extra cap hit penalties for the year after so for the Montreal Canadians for example Lane Hudson he won the Calder what if Ivan Demidov wins the Calder 2 what if the Canadians are in LTIR one more time because they just keep Carrie Price’s contract on the books and what if that results in extra penalties for the years to come it’s not really the most profitable way to do your business and it kind of prohibits you from being able to go full out balls to the wall signing everybody trading for everybody getting as much talent on the roster as possible and Miko even goes as far to say that the Canadians were able to take those calculated risks in prior years because for example they used their cap space as a tool to get Patrick Line and not just Patrick L but the second round pick that was attached with L’s contract in order to take on the full salary kent Hughes had that vision in mind he was able to get it done he was able to improve and grab some extra assets but you can’t guarantee that that’s going to happen every single year so for right now this is why Marco Demo goes out there and says that Carrie Price’s contract is very stomachable to be moved he does have salary bonuses and he does have money that he’ll be owed but Demo says that those things are going to be covered by insurance so when it comes to whatever NHL team has Carrie Price’s contract the amount of money that that ownership is going to have to pay to Price personally isn’t really high at all which is why Demo goes out there and says “Hey look at a team like Chicago for example they had acquired Sheay Weber’s contract they took that guy on because they needed to hit the cap floor they traded away Seth Jones they needed to get somebody back to help them stay cap compliant in comes Shay Weber to save the day san Jose for example this is the team that Do lays out as a potential price destination they could be in a spot where they need to hit the cap floor guess what the San Jose Sharks they have $41 million in cap space and a bunch of that is dead already too logan Couture has already announced his retirement he’s never going to play an NHL game again oh actually wait he announced his retirement right does that mean his contract comes off the books i have no idea anyways the point still remains here the Sharks have a ton of cap space a guy like Carrie Price his name all of a sudden becomes quite valuable when you consider it’s $10.5 million in salary that you could use to get up to the cap floor and for the Sharks ownership they don’t need to pay price much of that contract at all it’s not like they have to give him 10.5 mil most of it is covered by insurance and so if you wanted to refer to the prior trade that actually put this entire thing into motion here take a look at this so the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Sheay Weber Victor Soderstrom and Aku Ratu for a fifth round pick from the Utah Hockey Club and that trade is absolutely meaningless like Victor Sodestrom got flipped over to Boston shortly after akiatu is the brother of Atu Ratu and Sheayw Weber is Sheay Weber he’s gone he’s not going to play NHL hockey ever again but his contract is really beefy and it’s really long the Utah Hockey Club all they got was a fifth round pick and compensation if you’re thinking about it like this okay Montreal if they were to take Carrie Price’s deal and try to ship it off do even says in the hit that maybe you don’t need to sweeten the pot too much on Carrie Price’s contract in the same way that Utah had to sweeten the pot on Sheay Weber’s deal they added some prospects and stuff and it wasn’t like the most meaningful package considering the fact that Chicago just sent Soda Strum away shortly after but Carrie Price’s contract is very very good for NHL owners if you want to reach the cap floor and it’s only one year long shay Weber to be fair his contract is also only one year long until the end of 2526 but it’s only 7.8 mil just a little bit less than Carrie Price and his contract and I know a lot of Canadians fans upon hearing this radio hit they were all responding emotionally oh don’t trade Price let him retire a HAB let him do this let him do that folks at this point he is never going to play again it is just a contract and I don’t think anybody is thinking about Sheay Weber as an Arizona Coyotes Utah hockey club Chicago Blackhawks legend i know everybody likes to meme about it like “Oh yeah Marian Hosa what a great Arizona Coyote pavle Datsuk what a great coyote it’s always the coyotes now that we think about it but now Utah Mammoth Utah hockey club Shay Weber he’s gone he went over to Chicago nobody really cares realistically right carrie Price I mean for as good as Price was and with all the positive memories that we have attached to Price and his overall career in Montreal there is going to be some sentimentality if he does get moved but we all recognize he’s a habit heart right right anytime I think about Carrie Price I think about that same point that was brought up on the Steve Dangle podcast all those months ago carrie Price Hall of Famer definitely a Hall of Famer right i think we should probably agree on that but is he even a top three goalie in Montreal Canadians history is he a guy who’s so good that he has his number retired alongside the other Canadians goalie greats ah man starting some inflammatory conversation here in the comment section you can debate that Carrie Price individually talentedwise yes he was absolutely one of the best but all those other Canadians goalie legends man all the cups that they won you have a realistic argument that says that Carrie Price may not even be good enough to get his number retired by Montreal but he’s definitely good enough for the Hall of Fame and that’s more so a testament to the winning status of Canadians goalenders of yester year than it is an indictment against Price but ultimately yeah this is the conversation that we can have about the guy he’s a Habs legend we all know this we all love this we all love that guy but Marco Deico had the scoop here carrie Price could get traded soon san Jose who knows let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about price and the contract that he’s got and whether or not he is in a position to get traded what do you think the price would be do you think the Canadians would have the sweeten the pot and by how much what prospect do you think they should send away what pick do you think they could receive let me know in the comments section below all your opinions i hope you enjoyed this video 999 and bye [Music] [Music]

As a Sharks fan, please no! They do not need to take on crappy contracts
Imagine how good price would’ve been if he wasn’t a Coke head
Price is way down the list of Montreal goalies
As a Sharks fan, it would be an honor to see Carey Price retire as a Shark.
