school day yesterday but it was well worth the wait tigers take the first of the double header over the pittsburgh pirates and rather easily may i say 92 the final in this one welcome into a live bit today we’ll discuss that but he gets his eighth win of the season riley green was huge at the plate sackfly galore and some great defensive plays as well and we’ll look ahead to the double header the night cap of the double header as well so buckle up come along and of course i’ll have my biggest talking point our turning point and our player of the game next on a live locked on tigers bayas making diving plays late to a couple of new faces from the bullpen all kinds of things going on in this one and why not it’s another series secured for the tigers as far as winning a series bouncing back after that weekend series loss to the cincinnati reds so really all good things and a chance to make it a great series with this sweep later on tonight so we begin where we always do the biggest talking point if you’re going to tell a friend hey i just watched the tigers beat the pittsburgh pirates 9-2 and here’s what i got to tell you this is what you’ll be talking about it’s teroo anytime he takes the mount they put his stats on the screen in the full screen graphic on the uh telecast here if you’re watching on fanduel sports network with jason benetti and andy dirks in the comparison statistically he’s better this year than he was last year as the sai young that’s impressive and obviously it’s june 19th so still plenty of time but the way he battled through that first inning and then turned in a a really excellent start not a quality start by definition cuz he only got the two outs in the six he went five and two/3 didn’t quite get um through that sixth inning but based on the way this game started i’m looking around thinking what happened to tko come on come on and as he always does he just allowed that bulldog mentality to shine through and eventually get out of the inning with no harm and the tigers bats go to work right away they get the first of four sacrifice flies in that first inning and then explode in the second and from there it’s a wrap but that first inning scubble gives up the single to mccutchen a walk to bart and then another walk to load the bases and then he just goes right after hayes gets him swinging and then gets the easy lazy fly out to right field you saw him fired up i mean that’s who terrick scooble is right that’s what we love about terk scooel and that’s the type of competitor that’s the type of bulldog he is on the mound and that’s why he deserves a blank check and every time terrick scubble starts i know that’s going to be brought up and nothing has transpired over the last episode so whatever 5 days ago or whenever scooble last started to change my mind i mean this is a guy that you have to sign long-term i don’t care if you’re talking about uh a record payday when it comes to starting pitchers that’s just the way baseball goes the salary the the salaries continue to inflate and go up and up and up and there’s no salary cap so just dip into that deep pocket of yours mr chris illich and pay the man his money because terrick scooel needs to be a tiger for life now like i said game one of a double header you got game number two coming up it’ll be a bullpen day for the tigers they’ve already secured the series win but would love to see them go for a sweep as well now offensively in this one i mentioned the four rbi for riley green in the open i didn’t mention zack mckinstre’s big fly you love to see that zack mckinstry and all-star voting going on right now they were pumping that as far as the promotions during the broadcast so get out there and vote for zack mckinstry that’s a guy i believe that should be an all-star riley green as well obviously all the tigers just go ahead and vote them all in but for riley green the four rbi and uh three of them coming on that double um that got past the center fielder and into uh into that uh spacious center field area at kame park the weather the elements kind of played uh a challenge for the pirates i mean the tigers were playing in the same exact elements and didn’t seem to have as much of a challenge with the elements um other notes on the mckinstry home run it’s his fourth of the season it was a solo shot you also got to give some props to glabber torres another two rbi day for him he had three hits in this one and again you chalk that up on things you love to see for glabber torres two rbi three hits boy has he been good vote him into the all-star game as well um two hits for jav bias as well as an excellent play defensively dylan dingler getting in on the action and everybody had a hit in this one besides trey sweeney and colt keith um as well as spencer tolson now obviously colt keith and um was a a pinch hitter in this one just the one at bat uh and sweeney rather my apologies sweeney came on as a um defensive replacement so there you have it but uh looking at this one as far as checking all the boxes anytime you got ter scubble going on the mound and you’ve got an inferior opponent like the pittsburgh pirates i know we all do it i certainly do it you chalk it up as a win and that’s how this one played out let’s go ahead and get to some of the comments because i love to hear the comments that’s what makes the world go round jason walter with an el mago listen this is this has gone from the most um i wouldn’t say anti-hobby bias postgame show but we were critical of jav bayas and rightfully so again i say that every single time he earned that but i would say javias gets plenty of love on the locked on tigers post demetrius mcneel is up three times this year i went to the tigers game three times they won there you go demetrius three and0 paul ske pitching today can they score more runs against them yeah looking forward to that paul skins um i listen i’m glad you brought it up and and i don’t know if you meant to or not but anytime paul’s i would have loved to see a paul skele showdown today it would have been electric it would have been great for major league baseball and uh selfishly that type of pitching matchup is appointment viewing now every time trick scubble’s on the mountain is appointment viewing every time paul skins is on the mound it’s appointment viewing but to see them matched up together would have been quite the showdown um but i read aj hinch’s comments on it he asked terrick scooel you know you’re preparing for game do you want to stick with it he said yes and you know how starting pitchers are you can’t get in their preparation or or they’re creatures of habit i guess is is probably the best way to say that brilland dennis is up next utter domination from start to finish elago is a smooth criminal absolutely i can hear that song playing in my head dennis comes up next with the go tigers got to love that uh all right i love it brilland dennis already getting um dennis taid i should say i hope i’m pronouncing that right help me out if i’m not um dennis already getting his player of the uh brilland dennis already getting his player of the game vote in with riley green there you go and this is a good point here hernandez pitched really well his pitching was impressive and i completely agree you look at where the tiger this tigers team went with the bullpen you got two new faces and carlos hernandez coming in he’s a big guy 6’4 255 pounds and then we’ve seen dylan smith of course but recently uh called back up two innings um pretty uh impressive work from him gets his first career strikeout for the tigers and uh really it just allows the one base runner on a walk in two innings and carlos hernandez had two strikeouts in his one and a third innings of work and came on and got that last out in the sixth inning so yeah again i i hate to just uh take the easy way out and say “yeah this game had it all easy does it.” but it really was i mean from start to finish there’s there’s not there was not not a moment in which i didn’t feel the tigers were going to win this one uh going away and and rather smoothly so um drum is up next hopefully scubble can defer some of his money of his big contract yeah just do the uh show otani and make like two million this year and just defer it all in the back end um you know just enough for show to pay for his gambling debt oh i mean that was his translator what am i talking about yeah that was his translator totally not him at all um all right that’s just a little leaguewide humor don’t anybody get offended i’m not uh or get their feathers ruffled i’m not anti- show otani i was just trying to be funny all right gray matter is up next even without his lights out stuff scooble creates a winning atmosphere that’s downright infectious that’s a really good point and something i should have noted earlier i hope i did in some capacity but even on a day where you know we that’s literally a saying in sports is oh a pitcher doesn’t have his fastball today you’re not working with your best stuff or whatever it may be tk scubble clearly did not have his best stuff in the first inning and really throughout the course of this game but because of the competitor he is because of just the the lifeblood that he breathes into this tigers team you still see uh really a a winning effort from every single player in this lineup i mean he brings out the best in every single player whenever he’s on the mound as a competitor you just feel your team’s going to win and that’s why again i say pay the man write him a blank blank check make him a tiger for life and i know he only plays one every fifth every fifth day but when you have a terrace scoo in your rotation you just you won’t have a losing streak i mean that’s what it feels like anyways cuz when he’s out there he’s a stopper and i know um the tigers had won game one of this series and it was the second one but they had remember what we talked about they had struggled winning the second games of series um leading up to today so a sweep would be awesome and that comes your way later tonight bullpen day for or bullpen night i switch it up today and go with riley green i mean the four runs batted in he had that huge threerun double that uh really broke it open in the second inning and anytime you put up five runs in the first two innings and tko is pitching i’m close to saying that’s a guaranteed win i mean obviously it’s not a guaranteed win but you get you understand the impact that the offense striking early and often has combined with teroula on the bump i mean it’s just there’s a reason tigers are the best team in baseball because that is a winning combination so shout out riley green he should be an all-star i anticipate he will be and that of course comes after a slow start and i admit it i was a little bit worried but boy that seems like an ancient ancient memory very distant history how about our turning point time to reveal where the game was won or lost it’s the turning point i think today in today’s game almost more than ever there really was a true turning point in the sense that the pirates load the loaded the bases with just the one out in that top of the first inning if you have a chance to get to tk scubble the reigning sai young winner and you don’t the game turns and sure enough less than you know less than 10 minutes probably later and less than an inning later uh the tigers had a one- nothing lead and the game was out of reach at that point for the pittsburgh pirates and obviously the second inning onslaught of runs to the tune for the tigers in that second inning to the tune of four runs to make it 5 nothing that turns the game as well but if you got a chance to score on terracub and you don’t yeah this game is turning and not in your favor so how about that a nice victory for the detroit tigers over the pittsburgh pirates mlb best 48 and 27 21 games over 500 a chance to go for the sweep later on tonight certainly an uphill battle bullpen day for the detroit tigers bullpen night i keep saying bullpen day but second game of the twin bill will have the tigers with a bullpen usage and the pittsburgh pirates with paul skins i believe tyler holton’s going to be the opener the left-handers two and three at the 4.09 erra paul skins is this crazy 1.78 erra 4 and six on the season but that win loss record pretty irrelevant when you think of the domination he has displayed on the mound he just hasn’t gotten any run support because let’s be honest Detroit Tigers beat Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2 behind Tarik Skubal’s 8th win of the season. Tarik Skubal pitched around traffic in the first inning and proceeded to toss 5.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs. Riley Greene and the Detroit Tigers offense went to work early and often scoring 5 runs in the first two innings. Zach McKinstry hit the games only home run as the Detroit Tigers cruised to the win and clinched a series win. Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates will play the finale of the series in the second game of the double header later this evening as the Detroit Tigers eye the sweep.
