Dodgers postgame: Dave Roberts talks role in benches clearing, Fernando Tatis Jr., Shohei Ohtani hit
[Music] dave I know we’ve talked a lot about just in this matchup and in this series kind of how the tension emotions have gotten high intentional non-intentional things like that but can you just kind of share your perspective of things that just kind of happened and how things escalated there with my show um you know the way I see it the way I saw it was um Jack Little was making his major league debut and um he’s trying to get through the out and um we’re trying to get him to finish the game and obviously the armside miss to Glacius walks him um walks in a run and then he hits Tatis with an armside fast ball obviously I think anyone knows there is no intent and so and I think even you know Mike speaking the other day talking about intent versus no intent and so I think that anyone understand that there was no intent there and even by my reaction I didn’t feel good about Tatis a great player good guy getting hit i didn’t feel good about it and um and so as he comes out and he’s yelling at me and staring me down um that bothers me because to be quite frank that’s the last thing I want um I’m taking starters out of the game and you know trying to you know get this game over and get this kid a couple innings and so that’s why I felt you know I took that personal because uh I I understand the game and and know that I understand it doesn’t feel good he did but understand again intent versus clearly no intent do you think Baker would show him originally again oh absolutely yeah absolutely i mean it’s 3 and 0 and um again this is a right-handed pitcher going across the court to hit show up up and in that that’s a hard throw and I don’t know how many left-hand hitters scores this hit with the fast ball but clearly uh there was intent behind it and um and and yeah you said like that’s baseball but doing that sort of like twice in a week to the same guys that sort of cross the line for you yeah I mean that that’s their decision um and Major League Baseball’s going to have to look at that and that’s after warnings were issued um but I can honestly say that you know none of the guys and I know Todd Tease was hit three times in in the last seven games we played there was not one in 10 you don’t want that guy on base and um but yeah he he was hit but uh that is baseball but I I I know that there was no intent from any of our guys hitting their guys do you think the emotions from this last week and change can kind of linger into you know the future possibly the next time uh I don’t know um I I I hope you know we’re we’re honestly trying to win baseball games and um that’s our only goal and um and so I can’t speak to that i I do know that we don’t see these guys for a long time and we’re just going to try to win as many games as we can um before we see them again how did you anticipate there i assume that was shield that you were kind of going back yeah yeah i I just you you know and and I I I just I I felt that you know again my reaction getting hit having Tatis get hit i didn’t feel good about it i didn’t cuz I feel for the player and I pray nothing you know there’s X-rays or negative and he’s in there tomorrow um but I felt that he was trying to make it personal with me which then I take it personal and I just wanted to have a conversation how taxing were these 10 games against the Padres’s and Giants um they were you know I I thought we played good baseball and and I think that you know some of our guys didn’t really perform well and we still found a way to win you know more than we lost and I think that we we fared really well during that stretch of baseball game so um now for me it’s just kind of thinking about McKenzie Gore and the Nationals and team that’s been scuffling but just going to try to you know make right by playing us and so I I think that I think we did really well in that stretch why was a five to nothing lead in the eighth inning time to pull your the top of your lineup yeah why I think that for me you have a guy that you know we’re using a guy that makes his major league debut and they were one hit away from making it 70-0 and um we’re in a stretch here of a lot of games and I felt that you know that was the right time and to be quite frank maybe he got on base a couple times and you just don’t know how the game’s going to play out and so you know you look back and uh we got their closer in the game as it was in a five zero deficit and we got Matsui in the game so you know in totality um being down 8 nothing with you know in the eighth inning it’s a pretty good outcome actually like Kani was kind of gesturing emotionally you guys to not come out on the field after you got hit your thoughts on that well I think he knew it was intentional um he wasn’t hurt by it and he didn’t want any more drama which I I respect that a lot he wasn’t hurt by it and didn’t get his right no he was he deflected it he’ll be just fine okay if he had waved you guys on the field you got you guys in charge no I wouldn’t i was in my office so I don’t know with the offense today what did you find just was kind of missing from the group looking to get things to um their starter you know um I don’t know i I just think that right now in this series you can see in four game series that Show didn’t swing about that bat well good night Kik you’re in there tomorrow thank you um I don’t think uh you know Shel didn’t swing that bat well luki didn’t swing the bat well freddy didn’t swing the bat well so I think that we hadn’t seen this guy before so I think there’s some of that but you know those guys just didn’t really swing the bat well this series but uh they’ll be ready to go for the next one with EMTT was it just about being a pressure kind of the guy coming out yeah with with EMTT it was more of um kind of deciding essentially between Robo and EMTT and you’re talking about going into Denver and Altitude and uh kind of just making sure the pen is in a good spot protecting your downside and Ro has a lot more innings and pitches available versus a guy that’s got one inning or one outing coming back from a rehab outing and then potentially to take the Sunday on a shorter rest which EMTT hasn’t done so I think that in totality uh it was the prudent thing to do but EMTT would back soon is the hope just for him to continue to just build out yeah and I think that you know sending him out gives him an opportunity to kind of build out naturally should we be surprised that goes to the 60day um probably not he has he picked up a ball and done anything yet he has not he has not this about what you expected yeah I I think so i I I think that um but Tony I don’t know you know if it does happen and I don’t know when his you know time of return is but I think that just kind of his history and not picking up a baseball and the progression to get him back um kind of roster 40man management um there’s just not really much margin or expectation for him to be back before that so it was pretty makes sense was the situation around the stadium this morning a distraction for you guys at all i don’t think so you know and I don’t think uh you know some guys were talking about it but you know I don’t think that affected us uh not scoring runs for afraid does it feel more real when it was that ballpark though than maybe it had the past um probably but you know I think that you know once once guys get here and they get in the clubhouse and you know you get ready for a game there’s a charity softball game out there for Mookie and um I I think guys baseball players professional athletes do a really good job of you know certainly caring about kind of social issues obviously and rightfully so but you know when it comes down to doing their job just kind of focusing on their jobs thanks guys
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared his perspective on the benches clearing against the San Diego Padres, what happened between him and manager Mike Shildt, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Ohtani being hit by pitches, and the decision to option Emmet Sheehan.

Does he mention Tatis was hit three times in the series and has been hit six times total by the Dodgers. No other team has hit him more than four times in his career.
he should have said "if they hit our best player because they think we hit theirs, it was an accident, because Tatis is trash,"
Never comeback 2 SD.
Xray on tatis is positive with a fractured in the bone
Don't throw at Tatis and Shohei won't get hit. Pretty simple.
Wow this guy is full of shiiittt!! His bad baseball bulllshhhiiit habits came from Boston we all know that!! He better 🙏🏽 TATIS is Ok ✅ he knows dammm well TATIS racks off his best pitching every year in dodger stadium he has the most home runs against them at home!! EL Ninos numbers are amazing there!! Soooo FCUK YOU!!!! we’ll see u in the playoffs!! We will beat you this yr!! 💯
The way I see it is they passed me over as manager and anytime I can hurt them I will. It's personal
Try putting pitchers in who are ready. Your pitchers could ruin good player’s careers. Get a bullpen that is worthy of the MLB.
Typical dave roberts….Any of his players ever hit someone "anyone can see clearly no intent." Any player who hits his players " Clearly there was intent". ….. CLEARLY …… He does not know at all which pitcher on either team INTENDED to hit anyone….. Dave Roberts is not a very smart person. Way too many HBP for both sides in this series…. intended or not.
Dave tried to get away with a AAA pitcher throwing at Tatis. Bush league for sure.
Dave Roberts is a weenie. He is all this talk then starts to cry about how the other team this and that. Man up. Your from LA. Stop blaming the other team
That's a lot of hitting each other with a baseball.
He caused the whole fight . He bumped the padres manager after hisvpitcher hit tatis . The 3rd padre hitvthatvgame. Roberts did nothing but fuel the fire and wouldnt even leave the field. Bad example as a manager and leader. Kids seeing that and think its ok becuz roberts did it. Suspend him

Dodger fan here ! This is exactly why the Padres will never be better than the Dodgers . They play too emotional when it comes vs the Dodgers . They care more about trying to intimidate the Dodgers try and make fun of the fans with the fake machismo stuff. Especially Machado they can’t just get their heads straight and play straight baseball and leave the emotions to the side . I thought this series was going to be epic . Dodgers literally wiped the floor with the Padres .
You're going for a sweep and you punt a game trailing 3-0 at home? DR is such a terrible manager, masked only by a massive payroll.
Roberts is an idiot for punting the game in the 8th when only down 5 runs….a win could have pushed their lead to 7 games versus 5….that is huge!!!
Dave is a liar. I hope one day he loses all of his teeth on National TV.
His role in brawl?
Easy- instigator.
Roberts doesn't mention that he bumped Shildt and threaten him with physical harm!
More importantly the Padres will see increase in revenue from The Gab and Old Navy. Reportedly both clothing companies are hiring Padres players because they are excellent at folding 😂😂😂
I’m ohtani thank you guys for the support and love 🫶🏻 viva Japan!
I’ve heard of sore losers but the dodgers are sore winners! 😂
The cry babies in sd is appalling
Managers should start taking their own pitchers out of the game when they hit star players.
Tatis got hit three times dodgers are such babies!
He sucks. Sour ass Davey Robertortas
Yeah, OK. Every time a padre gets hit it's unintentional but whenever a dodger gets hit it's intentional. You don't say!
It was on purpose stop the lies
How about the other 5 times you had them hit Tatis ? You are full of it
Intentional or non intentional, I believe the issue is how managers (leaders of the team) react and display their behaviors. I believe both Managers could have behaved a different way way, despite being in the heat of the moment
Roberts is nothing but a cheapshot artist lmao
Manny is next!!!! 😅
Just wait until they come to san diego lmao
Baseball players nowadays not gonna fight their a bunch of girls
This guy NEEDS TO BE FIRED ASAP FOR HIS RIDICULOUS ACTIONS !!!!
Roberts is LYING through his teeth!!!!!!!! STFU already
