Pewter Pulse: 5 Things I Can’t Wait To See In BUCS TRAINING CAMP
Hello pewer people. Scott Reynolds here with another Pewer Pulse. We’re into July and Bucks training camp is just a few weeks away. I’ve covered training camp for 30 years in Tampa Bay. And as I get older and into my 50s, well, my tolerance for the heat and humidity isn’t what it used to be. Some years I really don’t look forward to training camp, which can be quite grueling because Florida in August is sweltering and can be as hot as a furnace. But I am looking forward to this year’s training camp in what could be a very super season in Tampa Bay. I’ve got a list of five things that I can’t wait to see in Bucks training camp. I’m going to share them with you today. That’s the subject of today’s Peter Pulse. Before I get to that, I want to remind you to hit the thumbs up button on this video. Give it a like. Also, leave a comment. I love reading your comments. So, when you do those two things, it helps us with the YouTube algorithm and gets our videos out in front of more amazing Bucks fans like you. So, thank you very much. Also, head over to Peter Report TV, our YouTube channel, and hit the subscribe button. We’re on the way to 20,000 subscribers and only a few hundred away. So, please do that and thank you very much. All right, let’s get into it. Here are the five things that I’m really looking forward to seeing this year in Bucks training camp. Now, the first of which is new offensive coordinator Josh Grisard. This marks the third straight season where Todd BS has had to break in a rookie play caller and he’s become a master of doing it with call it periods, which are 11 on 111 periods of practice that are unscripted. Gregard won’t know what types of looks he’s going to get from personnel, what types of play calls he’s going to get from Todd BS. The point is to simulate a real game environment where Grisard doesn’t know what’s coming and what types of looks he’s going to get in certain down in distances and situational football practice periods. Now, Grisard got a taste of this in the OTAAS and in the mini camp and received rave reviews for those call it periods from the offensive players and from BS himself. These are really fun to watch, too, as they’re typically longer periods, 20, 30 minutes of practice where it’s just 11 on 111 full-on scrimmaging. Can’t wait to see them. Also, the second thing I’m looking forward to seeing is Baker Mayfield taking more deep shots in 2025 and how he fares on his deep balls in training camp. Mayfield only attempted 52 passes beyond 20 yards last year as Liam Cohen’s new offense was imported from LA where Shawn McVey scheme thrives on producing yards after catch on short and intermediate throws. But Josh Krisard wants to add more explosive plays down the field and a more vertical element to the passing game this year. That’s smart because every offensive scheme has to evolve each year. The Bucks just can’t line up and run the same plays they did last year because opposing defenses will get a beat on them. Now, Mayfield completed 71.4% of his passes last year as a whole, but only 38.4% of those passes on 20 year 20 yards or more down the field. Kyle Tras actually looked more accurate on the deep balls in the OTAAS and in mini camp than Mayfield did. And Traskin rookie wide receiver TZ Johnson established some great downfield chemistry. Mayfield has plenty of arm strength. He just needs to spend August calibrating his deep shots with Bucks receiving weapons and there’s a whole bunch of them. I can’t name them all here because there’s just too many. But one of those is Tez Johnson. Keep an eye on him. The rookie made a habit of getting behind defenses out of the slot during the spring. The third thing I can’t wait to see is the battle at quarterback in training camp. Not just guys battling for playing time, especially talented rookies like Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parish, the team’s day two draft picks, but also battling Tampa Bay stellar wide receiving core and more competitive practices. That’s what Todd Bulls wants to see. More competition, higher level of intensity. I’m looking forward to that. Bulls also wants to see tighter coverage this year and that could and should result in more interceptions. The Bucks had just seven picks last year with only six coming from the secondary. So, I want to see which Bucks can really handle playing press man on the outside and in the slot and how often Bulls actually calls it. The Bucks quarterbacks will be playing closer to the line of scrimmage this year, even if they eventually bail into zone coverage rather than playing man. The Bucks quarterbacks gave up way too much cushion on the outside last year. So, I’m really looking forward to seeing the secondary playing much tighter coverage than they did last year and like they did on the second day of mini camp where the quarterbacks picked off Baker Mayfield three times. Rookie Roman Paradis, Zion McCollum, and yes, Jamal Dean were the three interceptors that day. The fourth thing I want to see in Bucks training camp is Tampa Bay’s pass rush in action, especially the front four. As Todd BS would like to do less blitzing on third downs this year, it’s nearly impossible to evaluate pass rushers and pass protectors without the pads on. So, I’m anxious to see new pass rushers like Hassan Reic and David Walker in action in pads. Also, I want to see the continued development and progress of Yaya Diyabi and Chris Brazwell. Those four battling the likes of all pro left tackle Tristan Wors and Pro Bowl caliber right tackle Luke Geti on a daily basis is the literal definition of iron sharpening iron. Now, Reic is a proven pass rusher with every incentive to get back to double-digit sacks as he’s on a one-year prove it deal in Tampa Bay. But the Bucks are very high on Walker. I am too. And everyone can’t wait to see what he can do when the Pats come on. He’s a natural pass rusher and was a sack machine at the FCS level. Don’t be surprised if Walker sees an enhanced role as a pass rush specialist on third downs during his rookie season. if he proves he can handle business against Gtki and Warps in training camp. The fifth and final thing I’m looking forward to seeing is Desmond Watson’s progress on his weight loss journey. This summer will be a make or break time for the undrafted free agent defensive tackle in terms of his chances of making the Bucks practice squad and perhaps even the active roster as it pertains to his weight. Watson, as you know, weighed in at 464 pounds at his Florida Pro day in April. And when he signed with the Bucks, he weighed 449 pounds in May, making him the largest NFL player in in in not just franchise history, but league history. That’s the weight that was listed on the Bucks roster. So, at least he shed 15 pounds from his proday. How much more weight can Watson lose over the summer? And perhaps more importantly, can he avoid slipping up on his diet and gaining backs of weight during the time off this summer? The more weight Desmond Watson loses, the more effective he’ll be as a defensive tackle and the more conditioned he’ll be to play in the hot preseason games in August. Watson seems like such a great kid. And you know what? Everybody’s rooting for him to lose the weight and get healthier. If he can lose 20 pounds in July, 20 more pounds in August, and can get down to around 400 lb by the start of the regular season, he’ll have a much better chance of making the team, whether it is on the practice squad or maybe even on the active roster if you can really show out and impress during those preseason games in August. So, those are the five things I’m looking forward to seeing in Bucks training camp this year. What do you think of my list? And more importantly, what are you what do you think? Your 2nd thing to see is what I'm looking forward to the most. This is Baker's opportunity to go from very good to elite QB. He raises his downfield completion percentage and accuracy, while lowering his turnovers in the process and it should no longer be a question in anyone's mind what kind of QB is Baker. He will insert himself into the tier 1 conversation and become a top 5 QB in the league.
I want to see Godwin do Godwin things again.
Try being a roofer. But u are the best ever to cover the Bucs 👍
Trask is like 3 feet taller than Baker, thats why he can toss downfield better haha!
I like them
D. WATT RUSHING from The
MIDDLE LINEBACKER Spot😊
BUCKY Without a ANKLE ISSUE!😊
Go Bucs!
Can't wait to see the new upgraded Refrigerator in the middle! William perry was 6'1" 350, this guy is 6'7" and 100lbs heavier! He did 33 reps with 225 at the combine! A record!
I look forward to seeing what the role players / backups do during preseason games. Including Trask. We already know what the star players can do. The others can make a difference in making a Super Bowl run. Depth is so important and these players need to be ready when called to duty. Also kick and punt returns need to improve.
I will have an eye on how the run game continues to evolve! I want to see the Bucs red zone scoring TDs percentage increase and I think Rachaad isn’t as strong a player in that part of the field! I think more reps for Sean Tucker makes the team better and if Josh Williams game translates on the pro level I think he can add a more physical style which will help in the red zone🚩🏴☠️🚩!!
Can't wait to see Morrison on the field
Why do you acquire a guy and want to change him…health is one
thing I agree on, but any other reason I disagree…either you
want him or you don't…is he affective , that's key!
I thought the first 30 seconds were a setup for an ad
I checked Desmond's instagram a few days ago. My initial impressin was 1) kind of impressive considering his weight and 2) not at playing weight. But, looking at that Bucs mini-camp photos of Desmond, maybe he has improved/gotten even more weight off after mini-camp. We still got some weeks more till training camp, then training camp, for him to get into some playing weight. I'm starting to get hopeful and excited for Desmond.
I'd argue I'm one of the least counting on Desmond to make the team. But, I'm starting to think he might make it.
– Things I've thought to look for is Elijah Klein to beat out Bredeson. I feel like there was another surprise idea that nobody is thinking about; but, I'm forgetting right now. I'm for the most part taking a vacation from Bucs ball.
Looking forward to the cornerback battle
The secondary stepping up
I want to see our new Corners. If Morrison and Parrish are the real deal we are going to have a great Secondary. I hope our undrafted free agent safties show up, too. Looking forward to seeing Dennis play an entire year, too.
Love your list! I too found it frustrating that it seemed the secondary had half mile wide gaps on opponents. If something isn't working, tighten up! Not that I think Baker's in danger of being usurped, but I'd like to see Kyle Trask make a statement this year and be the QB the Bucs can trust easily if things go sideways. I think he can. Go Bucs!
25 days till pre season.
I would say they should put him Desmond Watson on the active list imagine him and vitae side by side when it comes against the Philadelphia eagles in the tush push
One thing I’ve seen on some of the games I watched from
Ohio State with Emeka, was he got open down the field. He always created separation and was effective 20 plus down the field. That, plus Tex, and prayerfully a healthy Mike all year…. I think we will see some downfield fireworks this year!
I am a Krewe Nanny and I am so freaking excited to watch Defensive… especially Reddick…I can't wait and love your show..and I feel the same ..❤
Great job! Thanks
Im interested in john Bullock
Correct me if I wrong, regarding press man. Wasnt Carlton Davis supposed to be great at press bit peeved because he was asked to play soft zone so often I agree Scott, how will Bowles sceme the DBs
Look forward to seeing Desmond. He can be special if he loses weight. Hopefully he can get down to 380? I would love to see him line up with Vea. It could be epic.
lets get them to 20k subs boys
Algorithm help…
Dean can play press, I'm not as sure about Zyon. But I'm looking forward to watching him.
I'm interested in seeing how the new addition of the defensive assistant coaches what kind of impact will they make
GO BUCS
Watson better go on the regular roster as he will be poached from the practice squad
All I've got to say is Todd bowles is looking at both sides of the ball and that's great I love Todd bowles but I will say that I know we have the defensive coordinators over there that are very very good and they will be very good this year but he's got to put his stamp on that in every year for the last 3 years he's been stuck looking at the offense to make sure it's going to go right
I may be wrong but Baker's not a deep ball thrower Trask is actually better than him at the deep ball I say leave it close to what it was last year I mean change stuff up you can't keep the same thing even if Liam come was there he can't keep the same thing going and it won't work
I can't tell you who's going to get them but I say 21 intersection maybe I'm just wanting to be that way which is probably the case but I do see 21 interceptions but I don't think they're all going to be by the corners
Walkers definitely going to get some Saks
I'm hoping Desmond Walker makes the team I'm a Miami hurricanes fan but dude he's huge
So hyped for this season to start, really think this roster has what it takes to go on a deep run and put it all together LFG 🏴☠️
Scott, this channel has been great and I really appreciate your knowledgeable coverage. Go Bucs 🏴☠️
Best Bucs podcast on the planet. Thanks SR.
Your second thing will play out differently for each game. Have to mix things up and confuse oppositions. Baker has the arms strength to reach out. But receivers have to catch the ball. I've seen Evens dropped a few, J Mac had one taken away from his hands inside the end zone. As for Trask had his chance and came up short.
Send me out there. I LOVE this heat. The most wonderful time of the year for me!!
Scott, we live on the doorstep of the Ohio State University for Father’s Day my 25 year old son shocked me to death. He bought two really nice tickets to the preseason Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Steelers. Do you think we will see any starters do a little tuneup for that game? Wow could we get to see Baker versus Aaron Rodgers? You never know how your kids are gonna turn out until they surprise you in their 20s love the channel. Keep up the great work.❤🎉
People talk about Desmond. Watson like he's not a Florida boy. He's used to a heat he's not from up North. He played for the Gators. He's used to the heat. All he has to do is lose the weight!!! Go desmond I wanna see him clogging some holes and saking some quarterbacks
