Dodgers postgame: Shohei Ohtani’s start vs. Giants, Mookie Betts hit, Dave Roberts liked ‘fight’
[Music] Dave, obviously a loss is a loss. So when you look at just how your guys fought back in this one, did this one feel different compared to how this week has gone? I like the fight. I I like the fight tonight. Um I thought uh one through nine. They were good at bats in there. Scored some runs. um you know had a chance to win at the end and um unfortunate camp a little short but yeah I I think one through nine I I like the at quality and you know Webb is uh you know one of the really good pitchers in the National League and for us to you know get him in the sixth inning chase him get to the pen I thought that was good and you know unfortunately you know on the pitching side we just couldn’t prevent enough runs. Justin talked about how he felt like he just kind of got a little out of sync with the walks and the long ball. What were you seeing from him that just kind of really proved to be the difference with how he started this one and then in the middle of his outing? Yeah, I think that’s kind of the the the tell of tonight where I thought early on the stuff was really good and then, you know, you look and he started losing command and the four walks, I think three of the guys scored and uh you give a team that’s playing well, that’s opportunistic, you know, free passes, uh they’re going to come back taunt you. And also it it kind of introduces more hitters and the better hitters and you got to face more guys in a game and that changes kind of the the landscape of the game. And so um I I think you know that fourth or fifth inning where you know you walk two guys right there to start the inning that kind of started it. And um you know we tried we almost got out with the double play off Chapman’s bat but uh for me I just felt you know the command wasn’t there enough to you know warrant another uh chance at Adamus and so um you know unfortunately and then we got count leverage at times and couldn’t put hitters away so that kind of bit us a little bit too. How much has that been kind of a pattern of this season? Just kind of looking dominant through stretches ball just kind of having those versus like not really having his command. Yeah, I I I think that that’s part of it. Not to make you an excuse for him, but uh that’s part of kind of his path back and trying to fine-tune some things. And at times it’s elite. it’s it’s uh commanded and then you know then other times it kind of goes ary a little bit and you know you give give up free passes or make a mistake middle of the plate to give up slug and so that’s sort of what happened today and you know he’s trying his tail off um but today it just kind of fell off a little bit in the middle of the game two for four from Muki tonight hard contact on the line out in the first inning how encouraged were you by his at bats and how important this series is to just take some momentum into the second That was good. That was really good. I I thought Muki showed a lot of fight tonight and and was in there and spoiling some tough pitches and even that Dval at bat. Um what he did right there and squared a lot of balls up tonight. So that was really encouraging. A lot of positives from from Muki and uh again solid defense and tonight I just you know the more you watch this young kid play uh the more you like and he’s just a baseball player. He loves to compete, loves to fight, and so had a big night from him. So, uh, there were some good things. How tough is it to kind of take those good things and build on it when it does come with another loss? Like kind of a frustrating way for that one to end. It’s, uh, it’s tough. Um, but I think that we still, I still like the guys that we run out there and, uh, you know, it’s just kind of putting things together. And I think any manager will say the same thing. It’s, you know, to win a big league ball game is tough, but you still got to pitch well, you still got to catch it, and you still got to take good at bats. And so, um, if all three of those things don’t line up in one night, you know, it’s t it’s hard to get a win. So, I think for me offensively, I liked what I saw. I thought the guys competed. I like the uh the defense. And so, you know, we just got to, you know, show he’s going tomorrow. So, hopefully, you know, he comes out and does what he does and we got EMTT behind him. So on the pitching side, the run prevention side, I like what we have and um you know, we got RP the last time we faced him. So there’s a little bit of familiarity there and um we got to put forth another good effort offensively. What do you think you saw go down getting hit by a pitch? I was just hoping it wasn’t the knee. Um so that was for me soft tissue. We can deal with that. Um I was happy to see that uh he cracked a little joke uh when he was down saying at least he got on base. So, that was a good thing. Um, but I was happy it wasn’t the knee. And Taylor doesn’t seem to be moving very well. The the triple into the gap over his head is that just the challenges of this outfield. It it is. It is. It’s a big right field. Um, he’s uh not 100%. and to have him in the lineup right now, there’s certainly a cost. Um, given where he’s at physically, but you know, where we’re at trying to find some offense and he got a big hit for us. That’s kind of you try to take the net some and he wants to be in there. Feels like he should be in there. So, I’m going to run him out there tomorrow and uh Wednesday as well or Sunday as well. Do you feel on the roster right now that there’s, you know, given the defense and the offense, anyone that would be better or is the offensive upside? You know, I I I think that just kind of trying to put forth a lineup that we feel is we feel is our best guys and Tejo is one of nine for sure. So, I think that um I feel good when he’s in the lineup. But I will say is that that wasn’t a good pitch anyway. So, um, but yeah, I mean, that’s kind of where we’re at and, uh, I I feel good having him out there and, you know, we’ll bet that he’s going to make plays and do what he can to help us win. It’s going to be two innings or three innings. Uh the plan is two or three, but you know, if all goes well, he’s efficient, then um three would be
During a postgame interview on SportsNet LA, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts discussed what positives he found despite the team’s losing streak reaching seven games, Teoscar Hernández being limited defensively in right field, Mookie Betts getting hit by a pitch, and the plan for Shohei Ohtani’s start against the San Francisco Giants.

Fighting Dodgers !
Bench Freddy. Give him plenty of rest so he can come back strong later this season.
You suck Dave roberts
dodgers looking like the angels in past years with ohtani -he doing all the work while the rest plain suck, lol
Typcial slide into the all star break. Mediocre team.
Get this DEI hire off my team
He's back to mismanaging pitchers. Just because he has an "idea" how long he wanted big Red to pitch has everything to do with leaving him in too long. Eating up innings is a poor strategy if you leave the guy out there when he gets rocked.
“ i like the fight “ classic Dave Roberts quote
STOP MAKING EXCUSES!!! You need to hold these professionals accountable!!!!
Is there an incorrectable reason why the questions are so much lower volume than the answers?
Dodgers question of the day: ‘Will the Dodgers go into the All-Star break on a nine game losing streak?’
How many games in a row would the Dodgers have to lose for Roberts to be fired? 50? Post your answer here.
Use the Break to fire this arrogant bastard! His All-Star lineup is going through the motions! They obviously don’t want to play for this overrated genius ⚾️⚾️💩💩
What's it gonna take for us to get an actual manager!???!!
May gives up homers almost every start. Either one or more.
Dave Roberts is my guy.
Whole team didn't hit well at all for last few game bottom half did much better
