Charlie Heck Film Study l Are The Bucs in Trouble??? l 2025 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Hello Bucks fans. Welcome back to Real Bucks Talk. In today’s video, we’re going to talk about the Buccaneers new left tackle that is most likely going to take over the starting job for Tristan Worst, which is very unfortunate. As you guys know, Tristan Worfs is going to be out to to start the season. But today, we’re going to talk about Charlie Hec and the potential that he has and see if he can do anything as far as being a quality quality starter. uh for this Bucks team as we move forward. But right off the bat, I mean, in the run game, I think he’s serviceable. I think he can do some things, especially in the wide zone type of scheme. Uh definitely has athleticism to get out in space, use his length to his his advantage, but again, he’s just this is why he’s a backup. So, wouldn’t expect much from him. You just hope that he can do enough and the Bucks can work around him. You know, something funny put WTH. What the heck we’re going to call it? All right. So, big body 68 about 310 long levers, but it shows on tape because like he a lot of the times he’s just moving people because they can’t get around him. So, they’re trying to get around him. They can’t do it. So, he just stays with the play and goes with it. I mean, a lot of times you see these freak athletes of like 68, 320 moving like that. It’s like, wow, that’s amazing. But is it is it functional football strength, right? This guy can move. Let’s put it that way. He can get to a space. He can get to a spot. I mean, 68 310 going all the way over here. I mean, not getting in involved in the trash, not getting hit by anyone. Yeah, he fell to the ground, but still he got to the spot he needed to be. So, he’s athletic enough. It’s more things like this where he’s staying high. Guys, NFL is low man usually wins. So he’s the guy that’s going against is anchoring down and then throwing the guy that’s taller standing up to the ground. So that is a loss right there. Like it’s just playing too high. That’s part of what when you’re 6’8 you’re going to have to deal with and that’s always going to be something part of his game. So guys like Tristan Wor have functional strength all throughout their body. Lower center of gravity, big thighs, big butt, it’s just a part characteristic of good tackles. This guy doesn’t necessarily have that. That’s why they’re hoping he would be the swing tackle. an extra size guy that can put the tight end spot or as an extra lineman. I mean, you’re just seeing it scheme fit. It’s there. Kyle Shanahan’s offense, same thing. Uh, so how is it going to fit in with Worfs being out for a while? I don’t know. Is it going to be similar to what last year was against the Lions where Hudson got five sacks? You hope not, but we still won the game. But I don’t know. What is it to your quarterback? Yeah, I mean the the the positives with this is like they have time to figure things out. That’s that’s the benefit of this news. But it’s unfortunate when you lose probably one of the best players in the league. You know, any anytime that happens, losing Tristan Worse is going to it’s going to hurt. But you can see like in the run game doing wide zone stuff like getting out in space, he can he can move guys out of the pitcher. It’s just finding that consistency and especially when we get into the pass protection. But here again, being able to get in the way and do enough, that’s usually what his calling card is going to be. And you just hope he can be serviceable for you, especially as the offense gets started for the season. Yeah. And that’s the biggest takeaway I take from the positives. He’s just so big, it’s hard to get around him. He’s really long, so he even though he’s losing, he can still have a hand on you trying to push you out of the play. Here again, like check him out. 6’8, long lever arms. his arm is going to be on you. He doesn’t have the best feet or hips to stay with it because that tall lengthy body, but still he because he has that length, he can stay in the play longer. It’s not like he’s just losing square one, right? And here again, all the way to the outside, that’s a really wide nine. He has to get out there and cover space. Does he get beat out immediately? No. He gets his arms on him, engages. It’s just that anchor is not necessarily there. Your lower center of gravity and anchor to put your feet in the ground, stop, isn’t necessarily there. Even though this is a good rep, he gets help from the guard here to put him on the ground. But I mean, serviceable. Yeah, because you you’re always hoping to your starters are the ones that getting you there, right? So, let’s see what if he can go three or four games worth to get healthy, right? Yeah, for sure. I mean, you see it here on the screen here. Here’s his measurements coming out in 2020. So, he’s been in the league for a little bit. He has 23 career starts, but like Mark mentioned, he’s he’s 6’8″, 311 pounds, 34 and almost a half inch arm length. So, he’s got the big hands, he has all the measurables you want. It’s just at that size, it can be a blessing and a disadvantage as well. So, those are things that you have to look at as we move through the tape. And you just hope with the Bucks offensive line coaching and the progress they made with Justin School, who was the swing tackle last year, maybe they can do similar things with Charlie Hec. But here’s a here’s a good rep against Miles Garrett. This is from a couple years ago. You can see what Mark is talking about like he’s just again not as quick as versus the left tackle who’s just getting out into his stance very fast. Hec is just kind of going as the ball is snapped. Gan kind of gallops there and then he tries to use his, you know, long arms to hold off Miles Garrett. Yeah, it’s like a core strength issue, too. Like he gets gets so high, like you were saying, he’s galloping to the spot. Miles Garrett’s just walking him back to the quarterback. Yes, the left tackle Larmy Tonsel is a beast. He’s like allp pro type of talent. So he but when you see the comparison from a really good athlete, really good player, and then you see something that’s slower kind of walking to your position, even though you know he’s going to probably come with power, there’s a second guy there to help you, still driving you back. It it just shows like the difference of level of player you’re dealing with. And yeah, Bull Rushes, even though he’s so long, it’s just he’s just staying with the play. It’s not necessarily he’s winning the play a lot of the times. And that’s where elite tackles you’re like, “Oh, he’s going to shut him down. Just leave him alone on an island. I wouldn’t necessarily leave him alone.” But like you just said with Justin School, how much help did he need in that Lions game? And he still gave up five sacks, right? So is this what we’re looking forward to for the first few weeks, first month of the season? I don’t know. But then again, is it just his to have and run? What the heck? Maybe. But then again, you have competition. Luke Haggard, I thought was great in preseason last year. And then you have the young guy, the undrafted free agent, which I’m going to butcher his name. I’ll let Plus say it. But yeah, Benjamin. Yeah, Benjamin Chakuma. There you go. Yeah. I mean, it’s it’s going to be interesting to see how training camp and, you know, preseason shakes out. I would expect the Bucks to do a lot of quick passing game to to set things up for him to make it easier. Obviously, utilize more 12 personnel to help out with the chips. But you can see like what you were talking about just the ability, his athleticism and playing with leverage is just so inconsistent. His footwork and using his arms connected just is not there. Like he that could have been a really bad play right there. You’re unfor you’re fortunate that Case Keenum was able to step up and get out. You know, it’s good that he was straining there and stayed with the guy, you know, to use his his arms to push him aside, but at the same time, this could have been a bad play. Uh, and thankfully, they got a a huge play out of it. Yeah. I mean, that’s that’s the quarterback making a play out of out of pocket, right? It’s not necessarily a scripted play. But here, like, look how or I know you mentioned it prior to the the film. He reminds you of who? Yeah. Yeah. Robert Hany. And why? because look how far he gets pushed back in this initial jolt bam and continues to get thrown back. So like the anchor just isn’t there and it’s again like we looked at body types. He just he just doesn’t have it in the pants to to withstand it. He just goes with it and that’s the difference of what he is like right there like David Collins another power guy. He’s not necessarily do well against power and then he goes he’s running with the player instead of staying in phase like how tackle does. So here, but the good thing is he can play right and left tackle. So you see him as he’s switch from different sides of your screen. Yep. But I mean that’s what they were wanting him to be, that swing tackle type of guy, not necessarily take over for an allp pro left tackle. Yeah. It’s just I mean this is what he struggled with in college. This was the scouting report on him. He is sus suspect to inside counters. Um you know dip and rips from you know the edge rush. So, there’s things that you hope they can just try to limit to keep him away from these one-on-one situations. It’s going to be hard to do because you can’t do that in all situations. You know, sometimes he’s going to have to be on an island, but you just hope that you can minimize the negative plays. And it’s going to be tough because like here, this is one play where I see like he’s so vertical and his stance plays topheavy and you see his feet are just not there and then he gets basically pulled pulled and ripped down. Like those are types of plays that you’re going to be scared of, especially if you’re Baker. Like how can you trust this guy if if this is going to be, you know, the pocket that you’re dealing with? Yeah. And like you just said, it’s just standing high. Low man wins. So that initial jolt to get to the chest plate. He’s just trying to bear hug these guys just to say, “I’ve got length on you.” But they’ve got your chest plate. They’ve gotten you off your center of gravity. And then he just toss them to the ground. Right? This is what I meant by he’s just trying to stay with the play instead of engaging because it’s just let me get my body in the way. That’s what happens. You just put your body in the way. Like they can leverage your weight any which way possible. being lengthy isn’t necessarily going to be the greatest advantage if you don’t know how to use it. So, I mean, it is what it is. Let’s see what competition maybe is better. Maybe with like the run scheme makes it even better. Like you say, you use your strength to hide your weaknesses. So, hopefully this run game from last year continues over because you saw the first few clips, his running game was pretty good. Like, he can get out in space. He can move in zone schemes. He has a big ass body so he can pave the way. It’s just more let’s not make him be so consistent in pass pro because that’s not his strength. Yeah, it’s I mean when you see these plays and you see how far he’s getting basically run back into the quarterback, that’s never a good sign. And it’s unfortunate like and then here with the footwork, the inconsistencies here being able to he basically trips on his own feet here, loses balance and then gives up a pressure almost sack. basically a sack. And it’s, you know, these types of things that he’s gonna have to well, he’s gonna have to figure out and the Bucks are gonna have to figure out what is going to be best suited and how they they run things. The good news is Baker is right-handed, a right-handed quarterback, so you can move the pocket towards your strengths, which is going to be Luke Geti and and Cody Mock, etc. So hopefully they can design some things to move the pocket to the right side. you see here like even though he gives up the sack, they’re trying to move away from him. Uh it’s just it’s unfortunate that this this take this took place. Yeah. And then hey, it’s it’s just more what did you see? What are you going to get? Yeah. That that’s talk about push back right there. Uh and I don’t know what the hell the quarterback’s thinking is. It’s just throwing that up. Uh this is late preseasons though. Um Oh, no. This is actually game. So, holy hell. Yeah. Either either way, I mean, it’s early on. You’re going to see all of preseason. There’s going to be a big competition of who’s going to be that guy to go out there. Again, it’s not just one name. This is probably the guy they’re slotting in immediately just based off of signing him. You never know. So, you have probably three options you’re going to be looking at. And who wins it? Iron sharpens iron. It’s just who can get us to where Tristan Warf is back. That’s pretty much how I look at it. Yeah, absolutely. So, guys, hope you enjoyed this video. Be sure to hit that like button. Comment down below your thoughts of the Buccaneers potential new left tackle and Charlie Hec who’s most likely going to take over just due to the experience he already has in the league. 1. We still have training camp and preseason and maybe this isn't set in stone yet. I'm getting ready to check out your Chukwuma film study.

  2. Carberry and Picucci are top-tier NFL OL coaches and were able to elevate Justin Skule’s game when he had only 11 career starts coming into 2024. They can surely coach up Heck who is bigger, stronger, and more athletic and has 23 career starts.

  3. The hutch sacks is a prime example of why we must send help to that side with double teams, chips, and pull blocks. Ima fan at running the ball directly at these premiere rushers and wear them out.

  4. I hate to put a guy down, but Heck stinks!!! Plays too high, can’t anchor, bad footwork, defenders consistently gets to his chest. He is a finesse type of player I don’t see any aggression in his game. I hate to say it, but we need to make a trade for a tackle. Heck will get Baker killed.

  5. He looks really rough. The Bucs cannot sit idle again and hope the next man up will somehow outplay expectations like they did on defense the last two years. It hasn't worked. At some point, you have to go out and sign someone to at least compete for the position that needs filled. All the eggs should never be in Heck's basket. Bring in Fant or someone to at least compete.
