Top 10 Takeaways: Bucs Camp Preview: Baker, Bowles, And Breakouts
Hello Bucks fans, Adam Savon here. As Bucks training camp near, I wanted to provide an in-depth preview of the biggest storylines and key players to watch. From Tristan Worf’s knee injury impacting the offense, Josh Gazard and the pending battles he’ll have with Todd BS to which position groups and breakout players might emerge. There’s plenty that Peter Report is going to be keeping its eye on in the coming weeks. That’s why I wanted to break it down a little bit further in this week’s edition of Top 10 Takeaways. Starting with number one, Bucks Training Camp offers the best look at newcomers, and it’s a chance to see improvement from returning players. I recently detailed in a miniseries on peterreport.com that several high-priced veterans, recent draft picks, and key youngsters all have something to prove for this team to get to the next level. Number two, to begin with, man, the news of Tristan Worsy injury hits hard like an anchor dropping into the ocean. Worst absence leaves a vast ripple effect and hole up front as the offensive line is going to greatly miss his presence and elite play. Number three, this begs the question, will offseason sign Charlie Hec be up to the task of replacing Worse? Pek has plenty of time to learn and build chemistry with the starters, but is his preparation going to equal production? How he looks in practice and who else gets snaps at left tackle will be something to monitor closely. Number four, offensive coordinator Josh Gazard has plenty of looming challenges as a first year play caller. He has to keep the high-scoring offense up to speed. He’s without worse, and he also has to square off with head coach Todd BS. No punches will be thrown hopefully, but those call out periods will get intense as Bulls will be looking to get the young offensive mind ready for week one. Number five, how Grisard navigates practice and what his offensive game plan looks like will offer a glimpse into what to expect this season. What I want to see is how snaps are distributed between the running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends. Also, what kind of personnel will he run? Number six, it would not be a fair camp preview without looking closer at BS. He’s entering year four at the helm and he just got that nice multi-year contract extension. Still, he enters a crucial season with higher defensive expectations. The unit has to look more like 2020 and 2021 and not 2023 and 2024. Is the old dog going to show new tricks with his defense? Number seven, if Grisard versus Bulls is a main event, the wide receivers versus a secondary is a fitting undercard. Expect quarterback Zion McCollum and Jamal Dean to line up differently and be closer to the matchups. Second round pick Benjamin Morrison will hopefully be out there if he signs soon. On the back end, safeties Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tai Smith are playmakers who could steal the show. Number eight, the outside linebackers are another intriguing position group and the one I’m most excited for. David Walker, pictured here, is who I’m going to be keeping tabs on. To simply put, he dominated rookie mini camp and I would not be surprised to see him be the third outside linebacker sooner rather than later. Is that a bull take? We’ll see. Number nine, Baker Mayfield is Tampa Bay’s franchise quarterback. you know that. But I want to see Mayfield command camp as such. That means getting young guys up to speed, showing offensive mastery, and being the most confident and in charge he’s ever been. I want to see him not only feel dangerous, but look the part as well. And number 10. So, this one’s a little bit different. I’m going to be looking at five players who I’m most intrigued by entering training camp. Number one, wide receiver Acha Ibuka. Whether or not wide receiver Chris Godwin is out there, Ibuka will have a lot of chances to showcase his versatility, hands, and route running ability. Running back Shawn Tucker. There’s buzz building about Tucker having a bigger role, and I want to see how the underrated explosive weapon is unleashed. Offensive tackle Ben Aquuma. What will Chauma look like? The team made a significant $300,000 investment in his potential. Can he make things interesting with Charlie Hec and the other offensive tackles? Quarterback Michael Pratt. With a bright offensive mind who has soaked up plenty of offenses, Pratt has a chance to pass Kyle Tras for quarterback 2 and solidify himself as Mayfield’s long-term backup. And defensive tackle Elijah Roberts. Robert’s had elite production over his last two years at SMU. Seeing how it translates moving inside as a versatile pass rushing piece has my attention. So, that’s going to do it for my top 10 takeaways this week, but be sure to check out peterreport.com for our continued Bucks insight and analysis. !!! Go Bucs !!!
Definitely going to be watching Heck and Walker, we need both to step up for very different reasons. And hey, let's be greedy and hope BOTH Trask and Pratt take off. Having 3 starting caliber QBs would be a great thing to have, no? Go Bucs!
# 1 Byron Leftwich … first times caller
# 2 Canales …first time caller
#3;Cohen …first time caller
Won SB , back to back division trophy
So wtf you talking about ?
Ok. Tristan hurt few games, and he will be out, so what ? Next man up …every podcasters whining crying , like big tragedy happened , the bucs played 45 season without Tristian the sky is still up there …right ?
Will any of the Rookies start this year? And what does it mean if Egbuka is starting on day one? I think it means that Licht believes Godwin and or Evan's time on the team may be limited. Will Morrisson get a chance to start? How about Parrish? Will Walker Start? I see Johnson as the most likely player to start and probably on special teams first.
