Texans Training Camp Update! C.J. Stroud Looks GREAT + Christian Harris STILL OUT?!

[Music] Welcome into Texans today everybody. I’m your host Jeremy Chugs and coming up on today’s show, the first day of Texans practice during training camp. Yesterday was the first day of training camp, but it was like the first day of school, right? You meet your teachers, you go around the room, say one interesting fact, what did you do this summer? And uh today is where the actual work started. The guys hit the field, got some practice done, got some drills done. We’ll talk about all the news and notes you need to know from the first day of Texans practice. But before we get going, thank you to everybody who has hit that sub button so far. We are the number one Texans channel here on YouTube for good reason. Because we have the best audience. We have the best community here on YouTube because of people like y’all. So, if you want to be informed, know everything you need to know around the Houston Texans, number one, got to hit that sub button first. Two, got to be part of the NY gang. Hit that notification bell because if any news happens, you’ll be the first to be notified. And step three, select that all option on the noty bell. So whenever breaking news happens around your Houston Texans, you know exactly what’s going on. So let’s first get into this press release put out by the Texans today with, you know, the pup list news and notes you need to know. Arthur Mallet, I broke down on my video yesterday, was signed and in a corresponding move, they released Key Drain Caligan. And then they put out their pup list today, which is the physically unable to perform list. So these guys, a lot of them I talked about on yesterday’s show around the injury report, Deno Autry, um we did not talk about Derek Barnett, Trent Brown, Eli Cox, Tankell, obviously he’s going to be on that list. Fully Foot Accassi, Kurt Heinish, Casey Osai, Damen Pierce, JJ Taylor, and Jimmy Ward. And then the Houston Texans also placed two more guys on the non-foot injury list, which is interesting that they put Joe Mixon on the non-OT injury list because pretty sure his injuries are from last season. Regardless, Joe Mixon and Elijah Huzzy on that list. And the two guys who I didn’t really talk about yesterday, Derek Barnett. The Texans resigned him. I think this is more of a precautionary, you know, make sure he’s good to go for the season. You’ll see a couple guys on this list like Barnett, like Deno Autry, who they’re not as concerned of these guys seeing them in training camp because they are veterans. They are guys who they believe to be semilocks to make the 53man roster. Barnett being one of them. Also, Foley Focassi. Both these guys played with the team last year, had some injuries they’re dealing with. the team resigned him, so they know what they’re getting with these guys. So, I I’m not worried about those guys being on the list as well. I think it’s just, you know, a precautionary thing. You don’t want to get your guys injured in the first, second week of training camp. You want these guys who, you know, are going to be on the squad ready to go and healthy for week one up against the LA Rams. Also to go on that list, Mixon, who as I mentioned on the pup list, on the non-foot injury pup list, um won’t practice. He he has not practiced. I from everything I’ve heard um from the great reporting of Aaron Wilson, they’re going to try to ease him in. They’re going to try to ease him into it. And uh DJ Benemy, he reiterated that saying, you know, not practicing today. And I don’t know when we’ll be able to see Mixon. My guess would be towards the last week of training camp. I don’t think we’re going to see him at all in the preseason, but not not too worried about that right now. But because Mixon’s out the first handoff to at training camp went to Nick Chub as you see right there. I think this is a great photo from Aaron Wilson. Straoud handing off to Chub and then you see kind of the dichotomy of it. Behind them is Nick Kayley kind of looking on. Behind Nick Kayley is Demo Ryan looking on at Nick Kaye. So right there you kind of see all three levels of it. Great photo from Wilson. All these guys who I mentioned on today’s show, great follows on Twitter if you want more Texans coverage even beyond what I give you here on Texans today. All I mean Texans fans are littered with great reporters, great beat reporters. So I implore you, anybody that I talk about on today’s show, go ahead and go give them a follow on Twitter as well. Some interesting names though, not on the pup list. Very exciting. Christian Harris, Brevin Jordan, Jaylen Null. Three guys who, you know, Jaylen Null during rookie mini camp had that hamstring injury. He was out there practicing. Good to go. Brevin Jordan obviously missed all of last season. Not on the pup list. Good to go. And Christian Harris, you know, yeah, he he’s not on the pup list, but he wasn’t practicing. Uh Landry Locker, Christian Harris is not on the pup list, but I have not seen him. And he’s not on the field for defensive group install. However, likely close to returning. and multiple other reporters came out and said, “Yeah, Christian Harris not practicing today.” And my thought on this is I’m not worried right now. Like first day of practice, first couple days of practice, all right, we’re good. But if he doesn’t play in the first preseason game, I’m stressing a little bit. I’m a little worried. Somebody who didn’t play at all really last year until the final weeks and then kind of got DMPed in the playoffs, I want to see him play. I want to see him out there. And if he’s not going to be, you know, practicing during the first couple weeks of training camp, that worries me as somebody who really didn’t get any reps last year. And with the Texans linebacking core, I don’t know where he stands because today, instead of Christian Harris, it was EJ Speed, the guy who the Texans signed in free agency from the Indianapolis Colts, he was getting first team reps alongside Aziz Al Sh. And you know, Demo Ryan’s kind of lauded at the signing of EJ Speed, saying, “We really love his tenacity, his sideline to sideline ability, his tackling ability. We really like what EJ Speed brings to the table.” So, it makes you wonder, will it be, you know, the Texans run a lot of 425, so only two linebackers in a lot of their sets. They kind of use Jaylen Petri as that pseudo third linebacker. Will it be Speed and Azizal Shire to start the year as your starting Texans linebackers? I think that’s a very good possibility at this moment right now. But I’m going to ask you folks at home, who do you think is going to be the linebacker two? Aziz Alshshire, undoubtedly the linebacker one. He’s the captain. He’s going to be the guy with the green dot who’s calling plays, who’s, you know, the captain of the defense out there making sure everybody’s in the right position. Who do you think’s going to be linebacker two, though? Is it going to be Christian Harris, Henry Toto, or EJ Speed? Let me know down in the comments section. If you get hit with the YouTube ad, Rick here, all good. Scroll on down and give me your opinion on who will be the linebacker, too. All right, next. Let’s move to the offensive line. Jonathan Alexander posting this this morning. I’d expect the offensive line to continue to shuffle, but the first team O line looked like this. Cam Robinson at left tackle. Lakeen Tomlinson at left guard. Jared Patterson at center, not Jake Andrews to start off this practice. Titus Howard at right guard. And Arante Ursery starting at that right tackle spot, which I’ve been getting a lot of flack for having Ursery as my starting right tackle. In my early prediction depth chart, I had Cam Robinson, Lakeen Tomlinson, actually had Jake Andrews at center, Titus Howard, and then Ursery. I think that’s a good possibility. I think the rookie could start at right tackle from day one. And Nick Cacerio, obviously him and Demo Ryan asked a ton of questions and they’re going to continue to get a ton of questions around the offensive line. This is what Cacerio had to say. There will be a lot of competition. Games are won and lost on the fronts. So, I mean, when you look across the league, you build your mental and physical toughness in training camp. And I think all the competition is great for this offensive line. The fact that nobody has a solidified spot on this offensive line unit. You could definitely see multiple different kind of iterations of this offensive line, multiple different configurations of how they kind of put these guys together. I think the only main stays right now in my opinion are Lake and Tomlinson at left guard and Titus Howard at right guard. I think those two guys are locked into those starting spots. But Cam Robinson at left tackle, it could be him or Ursery. Jake Andrews, it could be him or Jarrett Patterson. And then right tackle, it could be Ursery or Blake Fischer, maybe even Trent Brown. But this coming in from Landry Locker, the offensive line to start the second period, so the first unit for the second period of practice, Ursery was starting at left tackle. Then you had Scrugs at left guard, Jake Andrews at center, Titus Howard at right guard. So, he’s getting all the right guard reps this off season, it looks like. And then Blake Fischer as your right tackle. Now, as I mentioned at the top of the show on the uh pup list, Trent Brown not practicing at this moment. My question is, will he get a shot? He has a lot of connections with this team. Nick Kaye was on the Patriots staff whenever he played with them. Nick Cacerio in the front office whenever he was a Patriot. So, a lot of connections already for Trent Brown. I think they’re easing him in. Obviously, coming off that season ending injury last year with the Cincinnati Bengals. Will he get a shot though? I think in a perfect world, he’s your like swing backup tackle and Fischer or Ursery kind of take control of that right tackle spot. Maybe Cam Robinson or uh Ursery take control of that left tackle spot. But if Trent Brown is starting at this point, I don’t know if that’s a good thing for the Houston Texans. I don’t know if that’s, you know, a great sign for this offensive line going into this year. If somebody who really hasn’t gotten any reps coming off major injury from last year is your best option at right tackle, I don’t think that’s a good thing for this Houston Texans team. If he is the starting right t right tackle for week one, I think that means either Blake Fischer or Ursery does not look good, does not look ready to start the year. Now, coming up, more quotes from Cacerio and more practice notes from today’s practice coming up in just one moment. But before we do, got a great deal for you. If you’re looking for some more Texans gear and want something for these hotter months of the year, I got you covered with this Texans performance t-shirt. 25% off right now. All you got to do go to chatports.com/houike sale. That link will be in the comment section and description of today’s video. Like I said, 25% off. A great deal. Only while supplies last. I believe they have all sizes from small up to double XXL. Uh I think the triple XL’s are sold out at this moment, but it’s on clearance right now. So once they sell out of a certain size, probably won’t come back. So get it while the getting’s good. Like I said, this link will be in the comment section and description of today’s video. Another big storyline, big talking point from today’s training camp was around Jimmy Ward. And Nick Cacerio said on Jimmy Ward’s legal situation, which is a thirdderee felony charge in Montgomery County, his August 13th court date, and obviously his attorney, Steve Jackson, expects Ward to be vindicated. Also, Deico Ryan’s also touched on the subject a little bit saying, you know, I’ve known Ward for a long time. I know the kind of person that he is. So, he expects kind of Ward to be vindicated as well. Now, this is all speculation. These are all people not knowing the exact situation between Ward and the person who is um pressing these charges on him. So, we’ll I guess we’ll see. And the Texans, the NFL will wait for the legal process to play out. Will that affect though whether he’s not on the team or not? Maybe. I think it could be a sticking factor. I know he’s a Demo Ryan’s guy, but so is Bobby Sloic. and Domo Ryan’s let him go this off season as well. I think if it’s close between Jimmy Ward and one of these other safeties on the roster might take the chance on one of those other guys. I know Jimmy Ward’s a leader has been a leader on this team is a guy that Demo Ryan trusts and in this organization this front office trust is a big big sticking point with a lot of these players. So if Diko Ryan trusts him and thinks he’s okay maybe he does end up on the team. In my personal opinion, I think could be better going in another direction if somebody kind of stands out and shows that they are ready to take up that mantle as you know a backup safety on this team. Some more news and notes from camp. I thought this was a funny kind of note from Jonathan Alexander. First play of 11 on 111. CJ Stout finds Brevin Jordan in the flats for a big gain. Second pass, tight end Daltton Schultz for a decent gain over the middle. Good start. Um Nick Kayley obviously known as a tight end guy has been a tight end coach. Funny first two passes both to tight ends. I wonder if they’re going to be a much bigger factor in this offense moving forward. And the first play of 11 on 111 goes to Brevin Jordan, who we mentioned at the top of the show just coming off the pup list. You know, was injured all of last year. The Texans still resigned into a one-year deal while he was injured. So, they have a lot of trust in Brevin Jordan. They really like him. All the notes, all my news and notes from last offseason was I thought Brevin Jordan was going to be a breakout player. Tikico Ryan talked so highly of him. Really loves him as a character guy, a work ethic guy, has that swarm mentality. I really do believe Breman has a chance to be a tight end one. Um, our one of our hosts here at Chat Sports, Tom Downey, asked me, “Who’s a breakout player? Who’s somebody who not a lot of people in the national media pay attention to, but you think can be a great player for the Texans?” I told him Brevin Jordan. I think he really can be one of those guys that kind of steps up, kind of stands out in this tight end room who there’s a lot of murky water, right? Daltton Schultz had not a great year last year. Kate Stove, the rookie out of Ohio State, didn’t show a ton. And then you have Luke Leachch, who’s a seventh round pick along with Brevin Jordan. So I I talked about, you know, Noah Fant was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week. he had a workout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, might sign with them, but I think the Texans will not look at him because of a guy like Brevin Jordan and their thought of he might be the next man up. He might be somebody who can really, you know, take that next step and take the mantle as the Texans starting tight end going into this year. All right, another news and note from my guy Stressens. Another great follow on Twitter. Christian Kirk on Nick Kaye. Nick is all ball, very intelligent, very smart, does a great job communicating to us and I think, you know, this was a quote that I had put before and I I really do think, you know, this along with uh I actually forgot to put it in there, but it’s all good. You can go to me full screen. Stressen’s also tweeted out Demo Ryan’s on CJ Strad. More things on his plate, more ownership in the offense. And that’s something that we’ve heard all offseason long that this offense is going to kind of take the shackles off of CJ Stroud. He’s going to be more free to, you know, make audibles, make changes at the line of scrimmage, and make this offense a little bit more his own. It kind of seemed like he was handicapped by Bobby Slowick last year. That’s going to be a big thing for Strad this year because we all believe that he’s a top 10 quarterback. We all believe in the talent around CJ Strad, but at the end of the day, I think it’s going to be hard to defend Strad if he doesn’t play well this year because of all the changes that this team is making for him. They totally revamped the offensive line. Maybe not as much as we would have all liked. You know, a lot of iffy decisions here and there, but you added a bunch of weapons in the wide receiver room. You got a new OC for him. I expect fully expect CJ Stroud to have a great season and solidify himself as a top 10 guy, but we’ll have to see this year. I I believe in Stroud. He’s been locked in all off season, and I think we’re going to see the best year yet from CJ Strad. He just needs to go out there and prove it to the rest of the NFL world. And overall, just to wrap a bow on today’s video, I think it was a good first practice. I mean, it’s just training camp and a lot of it is install, so not a lot of flashy news. A lot of it, you know, 11 on 111. They’re not going to show all their bells and whistles at practice. It’s a lot of just getting guys used to the system, the terminology, what the offense, the base offense wants to do, and kind of just getting these guys on rhythm, getting CJ Strad, which it was really nice to see him getting a lot of the weapons, wide receivers, and tight ends out before training camp to kind of have a couple throwing sessions, get that chemistry going with him and rookies Jaden Higgins, Jaylen Nowell. Um, but overall, I’m just excited. Football’s so back. Football is so back. And we finally see the Houston Texans on the field. Get to see some of these guys out there running, sweating at NRG. And it just it makes you feel like we’re this much closer to the Texans season starting up against the LA Rams. Now, if you made it to the end of today’s video, you’re an absolute real one. 1. I’m sorry but this is very alarming. This man has had an entire year to recover he still hasn’t recovered is a major red flag and I don’t think it’s just a calf injury

  2. As far as the offensive line they will figure it out. You got to play players at the strength not their weakness. Ersery is a LT.

  3. Just want to know how good hood do you think this line up will be you haven’t said anything useful to me I want to know more about what you think these changes will sence I don’t know anything about these guys except Howard I’m exited for this season o – line
