World Junior Summer Showcase | #mnwild News? | South Park & Happy Gilmore 2 | Judd’z Budz Ep172
[Music] Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. N. Heat. Heat. N. Heat. Heat. Hey, hey, hey. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] All right, we’re back. Jud’s Buds episode 172. Gretzky plus there’s no 73. It’s a while. We’ll just go with Charlie Makavoy because people used to just say Brock Faber is Charlie Makavoy. I said, “Okay, well sure.” Uh, right shot similar for a good at hockey. We’ll go with that. Um, as always, your host smokey joined by my good buddy Mr. State of Hobby Hoppy. How we doing? Today’s been a grind, man. Yes, it has. At least, dude. So, uh, lot of things going on, but the the one that like really set it over the top for us, we, uh, got a new bed and the delivery window that they give you is like a two-hour window. So, our window was 5:15 to 7:15 tonight. and they told us we’d get a text message that gave us like a 15minute warning that they’re on their way. 7:12 p.m. get a text saying we’ll be there in 3 minutes. They literally showed up at the end of the window. Definitely had a different understanding of what that delivery window meant. Messed up the kids bedtime. Um they like messed something up. So, like we’re just in a whole world of chaos. Un there’s just a bed in the kitchen now. [ __ ] like got to get jump over that to get to the door, you know? We’re just skipping the nuners and we’re going right to stronger stuff. I love I I mean I don’t know how they possibly could have [ __ ] up the whole hey we’ll give you a 15inute right heads up for the window and they’re like well 12 + 3 15 like there’s a 15 in here somewhere like we’re just going to let you know that we’re close within a 15minute window of you know I don’t know either way there’s a 15 in there somewhere just the [ __ ] weirdest possible interpretation of what that means and on their way out the Or my wife asks, I’m like, “Oh, so uh is this is this it for you guys tonight or do you have more?” They’re like, “We still got two more.” They Okay. They’ve also had a day and a half. I was going to say like I don’t blame them. I blame the company that like sold it or whatever, but like it was just Yeah. So yeah, I love that. I am in the process. So, like the couches that we have in our living room in my apartment basically are just not used at all. Like the only person used the living room is me cuz my work desk’s out there. Uh, and I have moved one of them to the porch cuz I mean like like they’re grow like they’re just destroyed from our last roommate. She’s insane person. Uh, and I’m in the process of getting a new one. And I am very nervous about ordering cuz I’m just going to get it from [ __ ] Wayfair. First of all, fingers crossed no kids end up getting delivered. Uh, with that conspiracy there, that was always weird. Um, but I just know because it’s me, whatever I get will I mean, it’s going to be not what I ordered. It’s going to be just like a piece of [ __ ] and I will have paid too much money. They’re like now there’s no it’s not refund. You’ll be fine. I don’t even know. Like I’m trying to like the the one of them’s on the our porch right now, the old one. And the other one I have to figure out how the [ __ ] I’m going to get it out of this goddamn apartment cuz it’s one that it’s not like you can’t really disassemble it without like [ __ ] like taking like a [ __ ] chainsaw. Like there’s no I could I was looking around. I was like, “Fuck, I’d have to like I mean, I’d really have to destroy our living room to take this [ __ ] thing apart and like reset to factory settings.” Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It would be great if this is just a [ __ ] AI couch or I could be like, “Hey, just disassemble.” Um, but couches though, I just have to side tangent quick since I learned you didn’t even watch Happy Gilmore 2, which is astonishing. But all all I can think of is Happy jumping onto the couch as the two guys are trying to carry it out. Back to the OG, of course, the original Happy Gilmore. But uh I digress. But yeah, that’s an interesting problem. It is funny cuz like furniture like that, couches and like recliners in particular, they get into a room somehow and then I’m always like, how the hell do I get this out of here? And then like rethinking like how did it get in here? I don’t know here. I I think because I took the cuz the one I have I got out there is the smaller of the two and I went through the back cuz I just didn’t want to go all the way around the apartment. Didn’t really feel like bumping into anyone. I wouldn’t really have to like pick it up at all by myself. But like the [ __ ] the dimensions of this apartment also make no sense. Like whoever is [ __ ] like I don’t even know how to describe the ridiculous dimensions of like the hallways. Like half the doors are they [ __ ] up where they put it. Like it doesn’t even close all the like it makes no sense. But like I just barely was able to fit the smaller couch through our back door and I’m still watching my other roommates’s catch is back next week and he is I mean insistent on breaking out of the apartment specifically the back door because I really can’t let him get out there because I’ll probably never see him again and then you know that’s not great solution. But like as I’m like getting at it briefly got stuck and I could just hear the cat [ __ ] running. Lost the apartment. I was like, “Fuck no.” [ __ ] ripped it through. And he jumped up as I was closing the door and just went flying into the door after I closed it. It was chaos. And then I got it stuck in the tiny hallway again for like five minutes and almost ripped the porch door off the [ __ ] It in hinges. was insane. This big one, I have to go out the front door and I think it’s going to just barely fit. But that cat’s going to get out. I mean, he’s going to He has before, but he’s too fat. Like, he’ll start running up the stairs to other neighbors places, but he gets like halfway up. He’s like, “All right, [ __ ] this. I I’ll just go back down.” Like, he just walks back down the feet every time he does get out. I’m like, “You’re a [ __ ] [ __ ] Uh, I got [ __ ] to do. I can’t be chasing you up the stairs.” And he’s like, “Yeah, I know. I know. That’s I only made it through like I only made up like five or six stairs. But that’s the current conundrum I’m in. So right now it’s on its side. Our living room looks so funny. Like it is there’s just a couch that’s on its side. There’s like there’s nothing nothing in there. My other roommate walked out of a room and she was just like that hasn’t always been like that. I was like get no [ __ ] All right. [ __ ] like I’m working on it. Like Jesus Christ. This one from Cole. Cats are the devil anyways. Like I can go so many different directions with that. I can go into South Park. I can just go Adam Sandler adjacent with Water Boy. I’m just my mind is so like all over the place right now. Yeah. How this works. This cat’s pretty funny, but like it’s the same thing every single day. Especially when I’m working remote. Like he’s funny. Like he also is one of the rare cats that’s like demanding attention 247. That’s not a cat though. It’s It’s a He’s fat. Maybe he’s some He’s very like He’s crazy fat. Like, it’s insane how fat this [ __ ] is. Let’s be clear. Cats suck in general. Blanket statement. Fat cats I at least have a little bit of time for. He’s pretty funny. Like I like I He’s pretty fat. No, I think you said he’s pretty fat. He’s pretty fat. Like No, he’s more than wet. But like every once in a while if I’m working remote like I’ll go like walk to the kitchen to grab something to eat real quick. I’ll just come back and he’s on my keyboard. I just be like so he’s sent two work emails before I finish typing the emails last week. I was like [ __ ] no sorry that was literally my cat. Um my bad. Fictional cat rocks. Yeah, but like every day if I’m home for a while, we’re like friends throughout the day, like like clockwork, 600 6:30 p.m. We’re literally I’m like we’re yelling at each other in my living room. I’m like, “Shut stop. Stop [ __ ] whining.” And it’s like he just starts yelling at me and I’m like, “Shut the [ __ ] up.” Then my other roommate again walks out. She’s like, “What are you doing?” It’s just non-stop chaos. He just wants lasagna. That’s it. I think he does. He like tries to not eat his food and then tries to jump into the fridge whenever I open it. This is what I’m going for. We’re I swear we’re going to talk about hockey soon, people. Uh we’re dragging this out cuz there’s not much that we’re going to do. Cat food. I saw something where like it was a short or Tik Tok or something and there was the three producers of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob Mack, which I absolutely love the name change. It’s hilarious, especially when you hear him talk about it. Um, Charlie Day and Glenn Howton, the one guy who’s like, “I’m not using my real name because I’m going to be such a sociopath that I don’t want to be associated.” They There was a challenge. I can’t remember what the alternative was, but Charlie ended up eating cat food, which he had never eaten cat food before, even though that’s like their running bit. Like, it’s usually like just like tuna or something. He actually ate cat food and it was pretty funny. And like he’s like, “The problem is if I choose the cat food, no one’s going to believe this is real cat food.” And then Mac just grabs he’s like, “Let me see that.” Pulls up to his face like, “Oh my [ __ ] god.” No. Uh, that’s cat food. Gives it over to Dennis. Same thing. They’re the [ __ ] best. I I mean, every time we talk about Always Sunny, I always mention the same thing. It’s just like, it’s very funny that Glenn Howard hates when Charlie writes the episodes because whenever Charlie writes the episode, he makes sure that Dennis is screaming at the top of his lungs for like 80% of his lines and he’s like, I literally can’t speak for three days after we finish the episode. Dude, it’s funny. He’s like without fail every [ __ ] time. Dude, he also said though that like no one writes Dennis better than Charlie. So, it’s like very funny that he like hates it, but also he’s like, “God damn it, it’s good. How do I say no? Piece of [ __ ] Oh, it’s the best. What a [ __ ] What a fuck.” And Rob Mack when he went on, pardon my take, he flat out said, “This is this current season that just launched is the best like the funniest season they’ve had in like 10 years, which I believe because there’s been some pretty bad seasons in that stretch. So, bar low, but I’m interested. I’ll tune in. Yeah. Yeah. Um well, let’s talk a little bit of hockey or at least pretend that that’s what we’re here to do. Um largely we’re going to talk about and if you guys have topics that you want us to get into, please throw them into the comments. Uh both of you that are here, uh we’re going to talk World Junior Summer Showcase. Um I was out there Sunday. I will be out there again Wednesday and Saturday. Uh Z tuned in for a little bit of the action yesterday. So, we’re going to talk about what we’ve seen, talk about what you guys should be watching for moving forward, maybe just more loose speculation as to what some of these rosters will look like, any wild topics you guys might throw at us. And actually, we’ll start there real quick. Uh Z, I don’t know if people actually know who the admin is for the uh original Capriov countdown account. So I guess I won’t say that in case that’s not supposed to be shared. But I know this individual and suggested that they change the name to Capri off Contract and start engaging with that again. And they’re like, “Yes, Dawn.” Uh oh. But they’re looking for ridiculous ideas of how they can actually like be generating content because before it was easy. It’s like countdown like countdown until Capri off’s here and they could like literally just do something different every day that coincided with the countdown. Do we have any ideas? And I want people to whether it’s throwing it in the chat, whether it’s circling back to us after this episode, but for Capriovc, now renamed to Capriovv Contract with a K, of course. Um, what do we want to see from that leading up? Whether it’s speculation on what his contract is going to be? I don’t know. Do you have any broad thoughts that we can guide them on? I mean, not off the top of my head. I’m sure as we continue along here, random [ __ ] after a couple more drinks, I’m sure we’ll have something. So, we’ll circle back on that. If anyone has like thoughts or ideas, throw them in the chat for sure. Um, we’ll have to do a little bit of light um, book of mammoth talk, of course. Continue the bit. A couple people got really mad, by the way. Did they? It’s funny cuz it’s only like like two or three people that are like, “Screw you. This is a Minnesota thing. Why do I care about Utah?” Guess what? I don’t care. I don’t know what they’re talking about. Not this is not a wild related podcast. And we will do some Happy Gilmore 2 talk as well as South Park because holy [ __ ] was that a doozy. Um, but Z again uh allegedly has not watched Happy Gilmore 2. So that’s just sad. I didn’t think that I’d have to like tell you, hey, watch this. I assume that was I saw the full Eminem scene, which is which my favorite from that is as he’s literally getting eaten, he’s like Detroit what? Detroit what? Just like in the [ __ ] just like in the uh forgot about Dre music video. He’s like in the background the news like Detroit what? Detroit baby. Yeah. Very funny as he’s punching the in the face. The one thing I’ll say before we get into that more deeply is so many cameos, majority of which rocked. It was very funny though, like because the whole way through I knew 90% of the people that popped in and the way we were like nodding along and following the movie, I thought my wife was on the exact same page. And then after the movie, she’s like, “Holy [ __ ] did you know that was Eminem? Holy [ __ ] did you know it was this person?” I’m like, “Yes, knew all of these things.” And I even pointed out to her when they the funniest piece to me, sorry Z, spoiler, um, his caddy in the first movie, the one that he chokes out, the little kid, they have him grow up to be Willotaurus. Wow. That is very very and like he’s like still got a grudge and he’s pissed off and like as soon as they said like and next up to putt because at first you just like know him as Will and like I don’t know what Zelator looks like but as soon as they announced it on like the first hole where they’re golfing together and he says Will Zelator I’m like that is so awesome. I love that. I love that they plugged Willurus in. And like after the movie’s over, my wife’s like, “Oh, hey, did you know that that was a taurus, a pro golfer?” I’m like, “Yes, I did. I did.” She’s like, “No.” But uh I have to imagine if um just because I know the whole movie is basically just like insane cameos. I have to imagine if your wife spent the whole movie knowing very few of the cameos. It had to a few but just not nearly all of them. Like I was at 90 95% she was maybe batting like 50 or 60%. Like in my head sitting through that movie I would imagine and knowing like 10% of the cameos had would have been the most confusing like hour and a half of your life if you’re just like what the [ __ ] is going on? Who are these people? Yeah. Um but yeah, I’ll have to watch it. I probably won’t. It the way that I described it. I basically said I would feel wrong to encourage or discourage anyone from watching this movie. I feel like if you go in with like high expectations, you’re just going to be like, I’ve learned my lesson there, dude. Yeah, it it’s it the problem is for me it was awesome in a lot of ways. The things that bothered me bothered me a lot and they were easily avoidable if that makes sense. We can get into it more later. We’ll we’ll do this whole thing. But we are just under 20 minutes. Let’s talk hockey. World Junior Summer Showcase. Z, do we want to start broad, bigger picture? Do we want to start wild prospects or do we want to start golfers? I mean based again and like you had mentioned earlier I’ve caught not whole games. I’ve caught a good amount of day one little bit of day two and then just going through some of it today. uh you know like Ryder Richie playing on the same line as Kaden Lindstöm who looked [ __ ] incredible and then also told reporters after that he’s not even close to being all the way back. That’s terrifying. What a what a [ __ ] get for Michigan. They’re also playing on the same line as Malcolm Spence. So like it was very funny in my head. You have Malcolm Spence who’s heading to Michigan. Kaden Lindstrom who played with Ryder Richie in Medicine Hat. Richie is going to be you. But then Linds’s going to Michigan State. There’s just a whole lot of overlap there. But I mean like Lindstöm scores twice today, looks incredible. Then tells reporters I’m not even a little bit close to like being all the way back to where I was pre-injury, which is like obvious, but at the same time with how good he looked like, oh [ __ ] that’s scary. Uh in Ryder Rich, you also grab like it it shouldn’t be weird because that’s what we see on the US team always. It’s just so funny to me that like, holy [ __ ] we actually have to talk about the colleges that these Canadian kids have chosen because I I do not No, that’s not true. I absolutely want to set expectations high here. I am hanging out talking to uh SID for the Gophers after a bunch of the media availability because for those that don’t know the the games and practices are being held at Ritter, the women’s rink for the Gophers and Maruchi has no ice. So over there is where a lot of like the dry land stretching, a lot of kicking soccer balls for the Swedes, which was actually very fun to watch. Apparently one of them got a ball stuck on top of the uh Jumbotron, so that’s fun. Um, but that’s where all the media availability happens down there on the like cemented ice. It’s a weird feeling, but it works. And everyone’s cleared out um from that first slate of games on Sunday that I was at. And Canada had just came in and we’re going to do their first practices late that night after those games. And they’re doing the same thing as Team USA. They’ve got two different teams to start and they’re gonna end up consolidating down to one, but one of the teams for Canada is walking past us and entering the rink and I just hear several guys, “Holy [ __ ] this is cool.” Just looking up and like seeing how sick the setup is at Maruchi, I’m like, “Come on.” And one of them that I watched say it. watched him utter it. I won’t say the exact words cuz they might not be PG. Sean Herson is one of them, man. And my jaw dropped. I’m just like, please, please, I don’t ask for much. Please give me this. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Imagine if like he shows like he ends up in Minnesota two years. If only the Gophers coach was like around this event and had a chance to not only watch and evaluate these players, but maybe talk to them and give them a little bit of a pitch. That that would be really cool. Unfortunately, not the case. Would really be cool if that was the case, which it’s not. Uh but I mean, imagine you have eventually have three guys on your blue line. Jacob Bronback, [ __ ] Mio Phillips, and Kashan Agent just running around absolutely destroying people. It would be incredible. Um, but so day one, uh, not day one of all the World Junior stuff, but day one of actual games being played, um, two very different games. So, USA White and USA Blue played backtoback um, against Finland and Sweden. Game one against Finland was kind of a snoozer. Mhm. In comparison. Hate to say like it was a good game and I enjoyed watching it but then seeing the Sweden I am glad the Sweden game followed the Finland game because it would have been brutal watching the Sweden game and then watching the Finland game. Um it’s funny because it low event type play but every time a goal was scored look and who’s there on the ice? Brody Zeamer. Mhm. It broke my brain that he was wearing number two. That didn’t make any sense to me. I I’ll probably get to the end of this week and then be used to that and then next time I see him he’ll not be wearing two. So, screw me. Um he uh played well and it was funny. We chatted with him after the game and he talked about just how like two of his best friends as he put it are Haggins and Stigga and like all indications are that those three are going to play together. I just thank whatever gods exist in this world that they didn’t somehow coers him to BC instead of Minnesota. Thank Jesus. Mary Joseph I’m talking all of the Jesus’s tuxedo t-shirt. baby Jesus full board. Um, but he he he was exactly who he should be. Dominating netfront on the power play. Just I don’t think we can possibly say more how much we love Brody Zemer and his second shift to the game tries to decapitating a guy. Like that. That’s just that’s what I need in a a dry summer competition where it’s not going to be as physical. Seeing him just go right for a dude, I’m like, “Yes, this is this is the Brody Zemer that I support.” Um, he had not watched Happy Gilmore 2 and complained that the hotel does not have Netflix. And when we confronted him and said, “Well, you could watch on your phone.” He’s like, “I’m not going to sit in the room and watch on my phone by myself.” So, fair enough. Team guy. Let’s see. The others uh from the Gophers that were playing in that first group against Finland were Jacob Rambach and man, I always get this guy’s name wrong. And I wasn’t even aware that he was part of the World Junior Summer Showcase. Um, now I’m going to just like go. It’s It’s one of those names I’m not even confident pronouncing. Um, he is not going to be here this year. He’s going out and playing a season for Pentictton, I believe. Um, why can’t I count That’s what it is. That’s the one. Uh, I will say out of those, it’s funny for both of the USA teams, there’s three Gophers and there’s one that’s lock or lock adjacent. One that’s a tweener and one that’s probably not going to make the team, but like fun for them to come out here and get this experience. He falls in that camp. I think Rhombok’s going to be an interesting one to watch. I think I’m not penciling him on to the team necessarily, but he makes a ton of sense for a third pairing guy for that group, assuming he gets the right start to the year. And of course, doesn’t hurt that you got a decent amount of gopher coaching staff that’s going to be running the World Junior Group. So, he’s also just really freaking big. It was insane. like standing next to him and talking to him made me feel very small. Yeah. I mean, he’s gonna be an excellent excellent defenseman in college hockey. By the way, I think you’re thinking of Jason. What? Jacob, not Jason. Jacob. It’s like Bastica, but it starts with a K. Uh, sounds correct. Right wings playing P tic next year. Seventh round draft pick. This is the Islanders. Um, Yes. And he he looked fine, but again, when you consider consolidating the two USA teams and players that are hurt right now, he’s probably not going to be in the mix. Mhm. Um, but yes, that is who it is. And it also messed with me cuz I wanted to say Jacob, too, but I’m like, wait, there can’t be two. Mhm. But yeah, I I liked nothing flashy from Rambach. And he said to us after the game, too, he’s not a power play guy. Yeah. No, but he’s a great penalty kill guy and he’s going to fill that role. And I don’t know, he he played a pretty sturdy game. Like never stood out as making a mistake and there were a couple times where he would just like pin a guy or step to him and like they couldn’t do anything. You he didn’t like murder anybody, but like didn’t need to. They knew immediately like I’m just going to go limp and we’ll see what happens. No thanks. Um, but I went from standing next to him to then after the next game, LJ Mooney, I think the two of them are going to join together and form one mega person. Mhm. Shout out Phil. We need finches. Yep. Dude, how freaking good was that kid? Well, I mean, I’ll let you ask it because you saw it in person. I mean like the one thing it’s just like every time the kid touches the puck when he’s like especially when he’s healthy he’s on and he’s feeling it like he wants the puck on his stick every single time he’s he jumps over the boards he’ll pick it up pass it wants it right back he can shoot he’s an absolute ripper deceptive ripper shot too but like the playmaking is ridiculous and it’s just like highlight reel after highlight reel play and again the only thing that’s ever going to really get in his way is just like this whole size thing but he he has such a high motor and he’s so tenacious on and off the puck that I still don’t foresee that being any kind of like major issue for him. Like he is he has like that much talent that I don’t think it’ll really matter. And I mean again like we talked about this with Cameron Schmidt 5’7 in WHL putting up a million goals this year. The motor, the pace that he plays with and just the drive to like have the puck and make plays every single time he jumps over the boards like that’s what’s going to get that kid to the next level. But I mean just a human highlight reel in that event in that game and like the points he was putting up were just some high just sick plays. Um I mean yeah so the only two goals for USA. Yeah I it I mean again you saw him in person like he’s so fun to watch. Yeah and it’s funny too because like I already knew who he was coming up mostly because the association with Logan Culie, right? Being his cousin for the two of you that didn’t know that. He is Logan Coolie’s cousin. He is a guy that I didn’t watch much of last year, right? Because of the knee to knee and then like being my first full hockey season as a parent. Like I kind of picked my spots and mostly watched the Gophers in the Wild last year with some spot looks at uh prospects, but saw the highlights, knew it. I was very excited. Watching him live is just different. And I told you earlier today, I’m usually someone that like I want to be on the red line or as close to it as I can if I’m watching a hockey game on Sunday. I was like up above behind the net. And I don’t like generally watching a game from there, but if you’re like iso camming one player, it’s actually ideal cuz you can see the way he’s going up the ice, the way he’s hitting the lanes, the way he’s hitting the soft spots in the ice, the way he’s using his speed, but then total change of pace, slow down and re-evaluate as people keep moving. He I don’t know, man. He’s surgical is the best way I can put it. And it was very fun watching him on the power play because that kid I based on one viewing he is obsessed with no look absolutely wiring it across the ice with a perfect pass that the guy’s just not ready to one time because I was faked out like he I don’t know the skill is absolutely there. I mean, no one’s ever gonna get over his size, I’m sure, because that’s just the sport we’re watching. But, dude, everything I watched out here, there’s no reason to think his size is going to hold him back either at the the U20 level or in college. Obviously, transitioning to pro is going to be a different thing. But, you know, we had him on Fellowship of the Rink episode will be dropping with his full interview on Thursday. And weird, the team that drafted him just so happens to have short king of all short kings, Marty St. Louis as their head coach. Think he can figure it out. Just like uh Oh, wait. Oh, they don’t have any short players on their team that are really [ __ ] good and lighting up the NHL. I can’t think of any. Um, I mostly can’t think of him because he wore Badgers red and that’s just disgusting. Yeah, it’s I mean, can you imagine though if he was there when Hastings was, he probably wouldn’t have even been drafted. He wouldn’t be in it. He’d be out of hockey. He’s retired. Yeah. No, but like you were saying too, like obviously when you’re watching a game live, it’s ideal to be at the red line or whatever, but like and before we jumped on, I was telling you whenever I go see a game live, I try to like as often as possible, unless I’m like watching with people, I usually try to like just go to different ends of the ice to like absorb different periods. But it is so fun watching from that behind the net angle. And you can just you can like literally just see their brain processing the ice in front of them. and when they’re just like the change of pace, the deception with like the shoulder fakes, the head fakes, and just like creating lanes for themselves. Um, it’s just so fun to watch and you get a better sense of just like guys that are actually thinking two, three plays ahead, anticipating where the open ice is going to be and attacking at speed or just like like just wiring this that perfect pass into open ice finding teammates. It is very fun to watch and it’s really fun to watch the power play from that angle too cuz you’re just watching them like just rip the puck around and it is very fun. And a lot of times too TV angle. Let’s when they do it on TV I want to punch everybody. Yeah. Not good. Uh but watch from behind the net. General fan experience. Watch from the red line. That’s my take. And he is very fun to watch in the power play because I mean he’ll set a couple passes up first and get himself right in that perfect position and then just that quick release cross ice tape to tape uh that you’re hoping the guy’s ready for. Sometimes they’re not. But like it’s just so fun to watch and process. Um but yeah, no it’s definitely it definitely stands out at different angles. But yeah, he again just especially in that game human highlight reel just electric stuff in that first game like the big time standouts were obviously that Hagens and Riker Lee very fun. I mean our boy Matteo is very sad about it but you know uh Pretty I mean he rocks. They look really good. He’s in the community. Mhm. Fair enough. Fair enough. Um, God, it’s so bad that shirt. Um, I got to say real quick, I was shocked at how many NHL scouts were there. I did not expect that for the summer showcase. There were a majority of teams were represented. And I text my brother because he’s a Flyers fan. And like right in front of us was three guys wearing Flyers garb. Mhm. And one of them is Chris Stewart, which I had I was unaware that he was actually part of their like development staff. I he’s he like told me to say hi and I was like joking with him and I told him like, “Oh, one of them is uh Chris Stewart.” He’s like, “The guy that got a cup of coffee with the Wild? That explains why their prospects don’t develop?” Like, damn. I mean, yes, but also mean. All right. [ __ ] Uh Oh, yeah. There there was a lot of NHL scouts. I was surprised. Yeah. Yeah. No, they they usually are very well presented there. They in the chat. Uh I was hanging out with Jup and VGO for the entirety of that. I think I’m going to be catching up with them on Saturday, too. I don’t think they’re going to be there with me on Wednesday, but uh yeah, very interesting seeing how many were there for again the summer showcase. I just wasn’t anticipating that kind of showing, but we’ll see. Um sure, it’ll only grow once we get into like USA Canada on Saturday. That’s got to that’s got to draw. Yeah. Um, like another guy I thought that stood out in that USA the USA white vers Finland game and I said this on day two of the draft this year. I still cannot believe [ __ ] Dakota Rumolan did not get drafted. I mean played a full season of college hockey at Michigan. Played great. Had had an assist in that game versus Finland. Like just solid frame right shot DB. Like he’s an awesome player. I cannot believe that he went undrafted this summer. I think he’s going to be one of those overages that goes early on day two next year. Um, but like I thought he stood out. Will Moore, Bruins prospect, second round pick. He stood out, made some nice, dude. I thought I thought he was Dunzo. Uh, like the second he got hit and it was behind the net like right in front of us. Jup’s even the one that said like, “That’s a shoulder. That’s a shoulder.” And he gets up right away and just holding it, going right to the bench. I’m like, “All right, so he’s done.” But he’s back like two shifts later, no big deal. So yeah. No, it didn’t look great. Um just trying to think too from that game and I mean like for the fins though um little was ready to just hustle with everybody like he was looking for a fight and he definitely is not a guy that should be fighting. Yeah. No. Yeah. He’s a he’s a prick to play against for sure. Uh but the hiky roning kid to get drafted last year by the Flyers. I thought he stood out. I think he had two assists that game too. Um, and then I mean I saw flashes from the Lassie Bullas kid, first Finn that went this year. Um, fluid offensive defenseman, moves the puck well, decent defensively. I thought he stood out at times. Um, in the shifts that I saw, but I mean the big standouts were Riker Lee and James Hagens just like every time they were over jumped over the boards, they were looking to make plays, finish up with a couple points each. Um, so there were definitely flashes. It’s always weird. The first game is always weird. Um, but I mean game two, the Swedes came to play obviously 52 win and I mean like Ivar Steenberg just I mean what more can we even say about the kid? Like he’s going to go early on day one. He’s going to be a top five pick this year most likely. Um, dude, I already told you this, but I I went over and I was talking to Scott Wheeler because we were figuring out I think we’re grabbing beers after one of the next two sessions and I just asked him right away. I’m like, “What do you think about Bork?” He’s like, “I really like him. He’s probably around 10.” I’m like, “Yeah, we had him around five in our two early thing.” And I think that’s just cuz we got a special spot for him because our main guy does a lot of Sweden stuff. He’s like, “Respect it. No chance he goes top five.” I’m like, “Yeah, no, he doesn’t.” No, he’s 5 foot n We still want it. We still want it. Soaking wet. Um, if he was two inches taller, what would you say? Yeah. Yeah. you would go. Yeah. Um just I mean what he did with the U20 this year is insane. Like just the fact that he’s there right now, too. Yeah. It’s insane that he even got invited to this. Yeah. Um and I mean you talked about Ivar Steinberg, too. He is ridiculous. Again, he was a half point per game in the SHL playoffs this year as a draft minus one. That’s legitimately outrageous. Does not have the same size efficiency. Does not. He’s He’s right around that six foot mark. He flies. a [ __ ] He’s got skill. He can do a little bit of everything. He is just insane. I don’t know if it’s because I’m like watching him as I’m iso camming LJ Mooney, but dude, Steenberg doesn’t just look six foot. Like he looks like a thick dude. Like might hurt me. Yeah. No, he’s got I mean it’s the same thing with like Anton Fondell this year. When you watch him play, you would think he’s 6’3, 6’4. The kid’s 6’1. He’s just like 28 pounds. like these like these are the kids that are just like filled out. So like they it legitimately make like you would assume that they’re three inches taller than they really are. But um I mean again that’s just like another another reason Steenberg’s going to go as I mean he he’s going to go early as he should but it was a big reason he was able to play in the SHL so often this year and how good he and why he was able to like get legit ice time and it paid off in the playoffs as a draft minus one which like does not happen. Like usually guys that are like draft in their draft years playing in the regular season, they’ll get a minute and a half of ice time maybe. So like the stat lines always look weird where it’s like this kid’s going top 10. He had two points this year in the SHL. It’s like yeah cuz they never play. So the fact that he even touches the ice is impressive. Meanwhile, Ivar Stenber is a draft minus one. He’s playing like 10 minutes and then the playoffs he’s like on their second line literally half point per game. Like it’s ridiculous. So obviously you had that hat-tick in that game. He’s just everything he does pops. So, he he’s obviously stood out. He’s going stand out all year. Yeah. Uh Cole, no, it will not be split teams for USA Canada. I’m pretty sure at this point after the action on Tuesday, I think they’re both consolidating down to one team moving forward for the games that are left. So, I don’t know though how cuz I’m not generally dialed in on World Junior Summer Showcase. Like, I’m usually kind of casually paying attention. I’m curious to see for both teams. Do you sit down guys that you’re like, “Yeah, no [ __ ] they’re here because I want to see other guys get a chance and see if they can earn a spot.” or do you literally just take your best guys and keep rolling for the summer showcase? Like what do you think about that? See, uh I feel like I saw a quote from one of the coaches at least that they’re not planning on having a whole lot of guys like sitting out that much. But I mean that being said like was it yesterday Trevor Connelly got rocked. He looked like he think he took one to the knee and couldn’t put any weight on his leg after and like was definitely in trouble. Um, so that’s not great, dude. We I didn’t talk about him though for Sunday. I’ll gush over LJ Mooney all day. Connley was the best player for that second USA group and it was effortless. like he literally was just going out there puck on a string casually just rolling past defenseman and trying to tuck around the goalie. He did not seem to care and was still just ragdolling people. And it was very very interesting to watch because we know the talent is there but even if you look to like last year it’s not something that you expected to see consistently. Yeah. I mean again like we talked about this in his draft. Obviously in his past he’s had the off ice issues which really haunted him for a while and you know supposedly whatever did the work off the ice whatever but like even even like there were some legit issues with him on ice just as far as like when he is engaged and some of like the decision- making as far as like really really bad penalties. I mean, people got to remember like a couple weeks before the draft last year in the gold medal game versus Canada gets ejected, takes a fiveminute major when they’re up by one, they give up two on that on the power play and they lose the gold medal game the third period. Like that’s happened like so that was a big concern with him. But when he is just like composed and playing his game, especially in that draft class last year, he was a no [ __ ] top five, top six, just like raw talent. Um, and he does it effortlessly. So there’s there’s going to there’s always going to be questions about like is he engaged every game? Is he making bad decisions? If things aren’t going well for him, is he going to go like take someone’s head off? Like that’s been a big re that was a the probably a bigger reason that he went lower um than like his talent level would would have suggested last year. Uh, we’ll see what Vegas they ever they feel like my only question related to Trevor Connley when we’re talking about projecting him into the NHL is who is the biggest trade target this year come trade deadline. That is the team that Trevor Connelly will join. That is where Trevor Connelly will I’m pretty sure he is the extent of their prospect pool. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, it’s just how it is. Um, but he again I was surprised at how effortlessly he went out there and just completely dominated. And this was against Sweden, not Finland. So, I’m excited to see him play. And it’s actually funny tease from our interview with LJ. He basically said like, “Yeah, I’ve played really well with Connelly in the past. It’d be fun to play with him.” And chances are that could very well come into play and I would I’d love it. So yeah. Um Wild Prospect specifically. I’m going to have to dial back here. I know we’ve got two for Finland. We’ve got Aaron Kiviharu and Sebastian Sweeney, which Sweeny’s probably not going to be making the final roster, I wouldn’t think, but he’s at least there for the summer competition. We got Ryder Richie for Canada. We don’t have a Swede, which feels wrong. When’s the last time the Wild didn’t have a Swede in junior competition? Yeah, I don’t remember. Uh it does feel wrong. Um I would be I mean I would imagine that Sebastian Swinny does make does make the World Junior team just again like there’s not a whole lot going for Finland in general but I mean like Swinny was on the team last year at the World Juniors only played one or two games. I’m not saying he won’t but he’s far from a shoein isn’t he? Yeah, I mean I don’t know again like returning guy people were shock b maybe not shocked because it’s been Finland over the last few years but like pretty surprised two years ago when he didn’t make it in his draft year. Um but again I we’ve talked about this before. There was probably a big some mistakes made as far as where he was playing in his draft year. Like he probably was not ready to be playing finish league of hockey. Um and he played the majority of his time up there. When he plays U20 fits fits it well. plays like 26 minutes on his junior team, but um yeah, I think he played two games last year, the world junior and didn’t necessarily stand out positively or negatively. So, uh pretty limited minutes. I’d imagine he’s probably going to make the team be on that third pair or an extra uh throughout the tournament. But, um Kibby Haru stood out yesterday against uh USA. Two assists for him. Um God, he’s just so fun when he’s playing on a team that he’s playing like 20 minutes, 25 minutes. like he stands out like what he can do with the puck is very fun. Um it’s just again the big thing with him is going to be the size and skating combination. Like he’s not big and he’s not fast. So um he is deceptive with the puck. He’s got a ton of skill. We’re in a good spot though where the Wild are going to be fairly set on the blue line for a bit. He’s got time. Yeah. progress slowly and find his way to the NHL. And dude, if he can be the kind of guy that’s we’ll call him uh what’s the opposite of light? Like when you say that someone’s like this player light, is there like a reverse of that? What would you call that? I mean heavy. That would be a weird lady. He is a Kalin Addison heavy. That’s that’s what I’m hoping for him. Can he be a third pairing guy that can play first or second power play unit and play shelteredish minutes on the third pairing but also contribute to moving the puck up the ice? I think that’s what you’re hoping for with an Aaron Kiharu. And again, I think the path being a little delayed is very positive for him. Both given the injury history, but also given the size aspect. I think he’s a guy ah Jason I don’t know if I’d go with on steroids because that we’re talking like way better way juiced up. I’m just like when you say someone’s like this player light it’s just like a slight knockdown. I’m looking for a slight notch up and I don’t know if heavy is the right answer but we’ll go with it for now. Um, yeah, but he’s got, like you said, he’s got a lot of he’s got a long runway in terms of just this time. And by the time he does by the time there’s going to be like a legit opening for him, he will played a ton of pro hockey in Finland, which is pretty especially like defensively, it’s very translatable like as far as to the NHL. And I mean, again, he looked really good as the season went on on an okay IFK team. Um, you know, and he had like throughout the season he had spurts of like six, seven, eight games where he was playing 25 minutes, got a couple points. Like again, really good on the power play, can rip a puck. Um, and it’s just really smart. He’s got a ton of skill. So, it’s just going to there’s going to be an issue with the size and skating. Like, it’s going to be something he’s going to have to navigate. But, like, given that long long, he’s going to have played a ton of pro hockey in Finland uh by the time like there is an opening for him. So that’s going to be good. God bless Jason and Cosgrove have given us all the options. We got Kalin Addison plus Kalin Addison 2.0 and Kalin value added Addison. I’m going to go with Kalin Value Addison. That’s how we do it. Value Addison. There you go. Let’s just let’s just save syllables, condense it. But yeah, I think he’s a guy that’s if healthy a shoein for the Finland roster. And I think he’s going to be a fun one to watch come tournament. I mean, he’s probably going to be their cap. I mean, wasn’t he? There was a captain last year, so he’s going to be playing 26 27 minutes, wasn’t he? He’s going to be playing a ton. We were supposed to have him for an interview on Wednesday when I go and apparently he’s sick. So, maybe Saturday. Fingers crossed. Because that’s a guy that not only is he like talented, like that kid can talk. He’s got the personality, dude. Yeah, he does. And I just wanna I just want to dive into like did you plan ahead when you went up to Billy G or was that like off the cuff when you said he was just fuming for sure. I was buzzing. I saw red. I don’t even know what I said. What did I say? Did I punch him? Oh man. Um, I think the biggest one though and the one that everyone’s interested in, Ryder or Richie, what what is the likelihood of him being on team Canada in December? Obviously, the fact that he’s invited here, he’s playing with Lance Strum and Spence U today and that Canada Red versus Canada White. I mean, that McKenna loves playing with him, right? I mean, yeah, he’s and he’s played with a lot of again, like he’s played with Lindstöm in Medicine Hat, McKenna in Medicine Hat. Well, it’s funny for me, too, man, because I feel like I’m not going to say this is a majority by any stretch, but you see enough people that are like, “Oh, yeah, Ryder Richie, of course, he puts up points. He plays with good players.” Like, no, dude. He is the epitome of can play with good players. Like not everybody can be plopped in with a generational talent and fit. Like you look, this is not a fair comparison at all, but just to illustrate the point, so much talk about Sydney Crosby and all the wingers that have been tested out with him. There are guys that know how to play with that kind of talent. There are others that, I don’t care how talented you are, they just don’t know how to fit in. Mhm. And early smaller sample between injuries and like he’s bounced around teams, but Ryder Richie is showing early propensity for being a guy that can play with elite players and that shouldn’t be discounted or held against him. Like it’s actually a benefit. Yeah. I mean got to remember too like he has like legit like this is a legit player like he’s a legit high upside he was taking the second round he sucks. Yeah. Exactly. Um you I think 29 or 30 in your rankings. So yeah and I mean again in that draft year was it 24? Yeah 24. I mean he’s right around a point per game on a really bad Prince Albert team where he’s basically by himself. I mean, like I remember just like writing about him, talking about him, like one of the smoothest, flashiest players in that draft class in general. So, it’s not like this is just like, yo, yeah, of course he’s going to go somewhere and like just produce. Like, he is a legit player. And I mean, he had his injury issues um you know, last year leading up to to the World Juniors and everything. And people got hurt, too. He was a team Canada guy for the Hank of the U8s. Like, he’s been a team Canada guy. he’s just had like that really bad injury last year that like obviously did not help his stock. Um so I’d imagine he’s got a good chance of making this team where he plays in the lineup. I don’t know. But um you know given the fact too that there’s going to be some of these guys, well a good chunk of these players from team Canada last year probably aren’t going to be coming back because they are going to have to like change the way they build out this roster. But a lot of these guys are be playing in the NHL anyway. So like like guys like you know East and Cow and like there’s going to be players who are going to be vying for NHL spots and if that’s the case they’re probably not be going back to World Junior. I think I mean I think Cow Hed out anyways but I can’t remember can’t remember how old he is but u maybe maybe actually maybe he’s got one more year but yeah I’d say Ryder Rich’s got a decent chance of making this scene. Um you know plop in your middle six you got a legit legit high upside tons of skill can shoot can pass make plays. uh super flashy, really smooth, good skater, like he can give you everything offensively. So, there’s no reason he can’t make this team. Um and against the fact that he’s invited, he already playing with guys like Spence and Lindstöm who are in all likelihood going to be playing for team Canada in the World Juniors. I think that bodess well. Shoot, pass, and score. what to kind of wrap up World Junior Summer Showcase stuff because again there’s plenty more to watch the rest of this week. Cover the Gophers. We got I feel like Zemer and Mooney should be on the team. the ones that we’re not sure about Rambach and Whipple, who unfortunately had a a tough outing on Sunday when I was there, but a guy that’s done a lot of Team USA stuff, like certainly in the mix for consideration. I feel like Mason Mo and again, I’m just not even gonna pronounce the name because that would be a disservice to him, but I feel like they’re there for a good experience, but probably not realistically making the roster. Do you think Rambach or Whipple make the team? It might be a bit of a long shot. I’m just like look look at the some of the names. Now that being said, there’s I know the name. I can’t pronounce it. It’s Look at all these letters. This doesn’t make sense. Spell that out for me. Fastnikica. Um spell it out phonetically. Uh I mean, and you know, we’ve got to remember too, this is going to be a year at the World Juniors for Team USA. There’s going to be insane turnover. Like a lot of the top top guys that a little bit. No, like it’s worse. It’s a drastically different team. They’re worse. It’s a different team, but I think they can be not as good, but not Oh, they’re not going to get rolled over. Like, that’s for sure. And they haven’t. It’s like it’s like they’re going to be I think they’ve got the chops with their forward group and they’ve got it’s not going to be as deep of a blue line, but the top end of the blue line is still freaking there, dude. Cole Hudson is going to carry the load. And there’s guys there that can do it. The goalie is the question. I don’t know who the goalie is going to be and I don’t know if they can hold even the slightest candle to Trey Augustine be a big problem. they get a goalie who is competent plus. I don’t need him to stand on his head. I need a goalie that’s not going to lose you games. If they get that, I’m not saying they’re front runners. They’re not. But I would be very unshocked if USA won their third one if the goalending holds up. Yeah. But that is the big question mark. And a couple weeks ago, Bob Mossco said it on the show. He’s like, be honest, guys. I have no clue who our goal is going to be. And I’m pretty sure all the goalies coming in are very aware of that. And it’s cool for them because like they know they have a chance, but also like holy [ __ ] who’s actually going to do it? Mhm. So yeah, I mean, so the I mean the big thing with like Ronach, too, is like it’s it’s not often that guys that just get drafted end up going right away. Um, but he fits the mold of the type of defense they like to bring. And like again, when you’ve already got like a Cole Hudson running around out there, like that bodess well, but like you’ve got 6’5 Adam Cleber who’s probably going to be or who will be their uh EJM rate. I would be curious to see what what they want to do with like a Blake Fidler who’s played legit WHL hockey. Looks [ __ ] incredible. Gets drafted this year later than I thought he would, that’s for sure. Um, even a guy like who’s a kind of like the mix of a little bit of everything. Henry Brewitz. Um, you know, we talked about him before. Um, big big fan of him. Yeah, exactly. Henry. Um, so I mean like they do have like it’s a very it’s a good team like it’s they’re taking as far as top on Vegas odds. Yeah. And I mean like we’ve talked about our expectations like for James Hagens’s college season this year taking the reigns at BC. It’s gonna be the same thing. I mean he was right up there in points scored at the gold medal game this past year. So like he’s going to be on the ice every other shift most likely. Um so he’s going to get a ton of minutes too. Like so if he carries the momentum that we imagine he’s going to be like starting with the BC this year. Where where did he get drafted? I don’t know. Oh, I can’t remember. Happy Gilmore 2. I think the cast of Happy Gilmore 2. He should have been incorporated into the movie somehow. I know. I like that he was like, “Thanks for drafting me.” Um, yeah. No, it’s still going to be a really [ __ ] good team. They can win gold medal. AB, they can win a gold medal. Absolutely. I’m I’m very I’m like the one of the biggest, if not the biggest storyline that I will be following like leading up to this is like just how does team Canada approach this roster? like they admitted it last year. They’re like, “Yeah, we actually do have to like make changes.” That being said, it was after they got absolutely hammered PR-wise. Like when they were like, “I don’t know. We brought the good players.” Like, they just sucked. They absolutely just said what they had to say. But my real thought is, okay, they galaxy brain it last year. Do they reverse galaxy brain it and like underthink it? Well, you got to remember too, Schaefer went out game two, game one. Yeah. And Schaer’s gonna make the Islanders and he’s not even going to be a factor. Yeah, there you go. They galaxy brain like just like not playing Gavin McKenna very much. They galaxy not playing Martone very much. Again, like if if USA lost Zam, that’s a huge hit. I still think team USA would have made it past the quarters. Mhm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, like losing Schaefer is not a reason to go out in the quarters, but it was a huge hit. He is an absolute difference maker. So, point made. But so, what give me one or two things that you’re curious to watch USA Canada on Saturday? Well, specifically what the lines look like for team Canada. A big bummer, too. Zay Perk left today. He’s had a nagging injury. That sucked that he left. Uh I’d imagine Trevor Connley team. He wasn’t there last year. True. I haven’t seen any update about Trevor Connelly. Uh I mean he had to get helped off the ice after that hook. Couldn’t put any weight on his right leg. I would imagine I haven’t seen you got to proceed with caution in that kind of scenario. Yeah. I mean like why especially the knee like you know why why risk it? with a candidate, it’s usually just like I want to see what the line combos look like. Um because that that gives you a good idea too of like guys they really high on. Like again the fact that Ryder Richie is playing with Kaden Linstöm and Malcolm Spence, two guys who are very likely going to be making this team. Um that tells me something. So who’s who’s Canada’s starter in that? Uh oh god, I just literally just had this up too. Oh, it’s either going to be Ivan. I mean, it probably be Jack Ivan Kovic. Uh, they love him. They brought him over Ravensburg in last year. Um, which is interesting. I mean, I think everyone was higher on Ravensburg was closer than what Team Canada made it seem like anyways. But, but it is pretty much just down to those two. I didn’t know if they had anyone else in the mix because those are the only two that I was thinking about. Well, Carter George is there too. Um, he’s in those six. He’s weirdly cool name. Yep. And then I know I think it was Columbus took Evan Gardner in the second round in 2024. That’s another guy I think got invited to this camp. So they’ve got four legit options. Um but I mean you’re probably looking at either Ivan Kovic or Ravensburg, but they’re big fan. Carter George I guess looked really good today. though. Um, so yeah, but I would I mean I just know that that team Canada really or hockey Canada. I always [ __ ] up like USA hockey and then hockey can. It’s like it annoys the [ __ ] out of me that they that they do it like that, but they’re they’re really really high. Straight up hockey is the R. Think about it. center. USA goes er Canada goes RE hockey Canada USA hockey. Yeah, fair. Well, you we’re going to ride with that. It’s the only comparison I can really make. Um, speaking of Carter in net, Carter Casey committed to the Gophers and I’ll just say exactly what I tweeted. I don’t know if I’m more excited about the talent or about what the goalie pads are going to look like because that kid in high school now he’s going to play for Medicine Hat and his pads already look sick. He’s he’s on top of the pad game. So, I’m going to be very interested to see what happens there. I think he’s like two years out coming. So, Mhm. We’ll see. But, uh very excited about that one. Carter rocks. Cool ass dude. The best. Oh Jesus. That makes it feel even better. I did not realize it was between Gophers Padgers and UPS. FedEx. FedEx. USPS. US Postal Service is uh UND. Uh, the one thing that I think is going to be this gonna hold true. Oh, no. Sorry. Not Zuba’s pads. It was not. That kid is my spirit animal. Carter Casey, though, also has really sick pads. Go check it. Sorry. What’ you have? I was trying to think like off the top of my head, maybe it’s not as dramatic as I thought it was now that I’m looking at the roster again, but just because I remembered some of the guys got drafted this year, last year that are going to be on this Team USA for the World Juniors. It was like, it’s very funny because I picture there’s going to be a couple guys that are like 5’10 and then they’re like going to be a bunch of like 6’5 66 monsters. It’s like this hockey team is fascinating where it’s like they’re either [ __ ] massive or they’re just little fellas who are lighting it up and like probably as far as talent goes like some of the best players here. But I don’t think it’s as dramatic as I thought it was. Fair. It’s disappointing but it’s fine. I think the the back end other than Hudson there’s going to be a big big boys. I mean Hudson’s 5’11. We act like he’s 5 foot like two but it’s just because he’s less than six foot. It’s like he’s I mean, well, it’s because of his brother, right? Who is also good at the hockey. Um, only thing I saw come through and hit us up in the chat if you have anything else wild related, but uh, Sloth comes in and says, “Riger Loren’s expectations. What do you want to see?” Yeah, I mean, with the turnover at Denver this year, he’s going to be high in that in that lineup. Obviously, we want to see numbers close high. Is he like probably second liner? First, second line. I’d imagine he’s going to be in it, year three now. Three. Yeah, year three. Oh, he’s a senior now. Oh, yeah. Yeah, year four. Year four. We want to see numbers closer to what he what the numbers were his sophomore season, obviously. Um, I mean, again, the weird deployment last year, a whole lot of defensive hockey, numbers didn’t jump, but I would imagine just given the fact he’s going to be on that first second line with all the turnover, he’s going to be like one of the go-to guys in the power play. He’s going to be on the PK. Like, he’s going to log a ton of minutes, that’s for sure. Um, so I want to see him right around a point per game at least. Denver is still going to be [ __ ] good. I mean, like I I always I keep forgetting that they’re bringing in Christian Eper, like an overager that should have got drafted last year but didn’t. But that’s like a really good for them as well. Everyone’s either over or underrating them for me. Like I think they probably belong in like the 8 to 10 range. And everyone’s either like no, they suck now. Or they’re like, “No, they’re still a top five team.” And I’m not on either of those. I think like 8 to 10 is a very suitable location for Denver to be. and they could absolutely prove me wrong, but you lose Zeve Buham, you lose your top scorer as well, and you lose your goalie who has done incredible things for you. God, I believe in the coaching. I think the team is still a good team, but like those are some key pivotal pieces. It’s not I’d almost rather lose numbers than lose like g get rid of four guys for any one of them to be back, you know? Right. So they’ll still be good and bring in Eper is no joke, but you’re still not the same team. Like when you got to replace 30 minutes a night for Buham and you’ve got to figure out who your goal is. And I mean, I’m not saying they got to figure it out, but you got to get them in and actually have them doing what Davis did. It’s different. Oh yeah. Um, yeah. I feel like I feel like the top five people I’m like I feel like you’re now at the point and this is like David Carl is one college go right. Oh god, I can’t even uh or BU and BC in your top five. Yeah, they’re both there. Michigan State’s there. I’ll throw Penn State in there. I don’t have Penn State there. I do have Michigan there. Yeah, Michigan’s right there. Michigan is the definition of high ceiling, low floor. Like they’ll either be like fighting Michigan State for top of the Big 10 or they’ll just plummet. Yeah. And I really want Why don’t you echo something similar because they are the team that when they can play discipline hockey, they dominate. They just don’t play a lot of discipline hockey at times. So, I don’t know. I really want you Maine to do it again, too. I had Maine at six in my preseason rankings that I had to submit over to the college hockey NXT guys. Um, I think Western Michigan’s still going to be up in consideration for top five. Yep. I think everyone is so down and [ __ ] on the Gophers and I don’t get it. I think they’re just like Denver. Yeah, that’s we talked about this couple top program. There’s other people that are like, “No, they suck now.” I’m like, “No, like the Gophers belong somewhere in that like seven to 10 range.” Mhm. And I think it’s going to be a fun year where they can actually surprise people like it is going to be different though seeing more of a bluecollar like grinding approach. And uh people should tune in the next couple of weeks. I think it’s a week or two from now. Jup, you can correct me in the chat if you want, but I know Jup and VGO are going to do their summer episode. And VGO had like did a deep dive on line combos last year, how regularly guys played together, whatever, to figure out realistic line combos for next year for the Gophers. And it’s pretty interesting. I only had one like tweak or criticism from a personal lens. Not that he was wrong, but uh I’m sure he’ll get a lot deeper into that when he does his thing on Gopher Puck Live. I won’t steal his thunder, but definitely worth checking out. And you guys should all check out uh all of the interviews for the Gopher players after the Sunday games are live on Gopher Puck Live. Um check them. But yeah, I think I don’t know. Gophers will probably start the year fourth in the Big 10 preseason rankings, I would think, which is again fine because the Big 10, holy [ __ ] they’re good. And I I think they can hang with every single team. It’s just they don’t have the top end talent of some of the other teams, right? Is what it is. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it feels like they’ve got a bunch of like second and third lines and then a bunch of second pair deep that’s I’m a I’m a Luke Middlestat defense I was going to say Luke Middlestat’s going to put up crazy points but Luke Middle stat’s sick and I think Cal Thomas will be a deacto second pairing defenseman but like as far as shutdown defenseman in college hockey He’s got to be top of the list. Mhm. Yeah. So, yes. Outside of that, you’re not wrong. Uh your your boy who you were just fascinated by Gruba will probably I was literally just about to I was literally just about to talk about Gruba. Like Gruba is another guy that you you look at you’re like, “Yeah, he’s 66.” And it’s like I mean he’s a big waist but he’s 6’2 big but he’s he’s thick with several which again which we when we watched that [ __ ] Gruba strael collision and well I mean it was the noise I was like oh they’re both dead they have to both be dead. The look on your face based on the noise alone was incredible. It echoed dude. It was like Jesus Christ who’s dead. Yeah. Yeah, the ref like the foul. No, two fouls. But that for Wild fans that just continue to [ __ ] on Charlie Straml unnecessarily. Him just devouring a guy like Leo Gruba just tells you how much of a [ __ ] locomotive that guy is. I audibly g I audibly gasped. Uh Jup disagree. The picture that you guys took had VGO the exact same height as him because the angle we found. It was very well played. Um all right. Not seeing anything else. Minnesota wild in here. If I missed something, you guys can chime in very quickly. Um, Z, we have to throw in I Cole leads in by saying, “I’ve got something that’s completely off topic that might piss off Hoppy and I’m a f I’m pissed off that you think it’ll piss me off.” So, I guess I’m pissed off. I don’t know. He says, “What’s the nuner of choice, Z?” I don’t know why that would piss me off. I’m on the nuner train. I love really good beer, but if I’m looking to not have like high percentage beers, I’m drinking a Nuner right now. This one is black cherry. That is the best flavor. I I like them all. I don’t have any. H There’s definitely some that I dislike. There’s There’s a tier ranking. We’ll have to like do a power ranking of nuner flavors. Yours will just be S tier across the board, right? They’re all good. Like this one I’m having I’m having lemon. Yeah. Fine. This is like in the middle group. Yeah, that’s fair. That’s fair. My top ones have to be black cherry, peach, mango. That’s probably my like top group. Give me any of those three. I’m not going to complain. Lime’s in there for me. Lime’s in the middle group with lemon. There’s not many I dislike. I dislike cranberry. It’s a mood thing, but more often than not, I dislike pineapple, but there’s times where it hits. Raspberries fine. Kiwi’s fine. Grapefruit’s not necessarily my cup of tea either, but I’ll have most of them, but black cherry my 101 for sure if I’m doing a draft. So, That’s that. Oh, Jason Bryant crushing the prize. Course correct. Hazy. Oh, dude. Next time you’re out here, we have to go to prize. Not even for the beer, which their beer is solid. Have I told you about feather bowling? No. It’s literally like a halfpipe of sorts with fake like short turf grass. You get these big wooden pucks that you can like whip down them and they kind of like swerve back and forth and there’s a little feather sticking out of the ground. Think of it kind of like botchi ball and you just want to land your puck as close to that as you can. Very fun. Very fun. Um, oh man, Cole is gonna throw some hate in the direction of uh, well, a topic that I feel like we have to hit because we have to do some level of Book of Mammoth. He says, “The off topic is the 2023 Natty Championship was Koolie’s fault. The stupid offensive zone penalty in the third when you’re up a goal with five minutes to go.” I put that game on [ __ ] Oh, Cole. Unfortunate play that [ __ ] absolutely wants back. I also think if you look at that play and think that [ __ ] is the only one that took a penalty that’s what bothers me. He if anything you take both and here we go. That loss was on nice and snuggered. Wow. So [ __ ] we’re going to throw both of his linemates under the bus. Neither of them scored a goal in the last month of play that year. Fair. That game goes on everybody. Like I’m I am We’ve said this before, shutting it down was insane. Yes, I am a Bob Mossco defender. Not in that game. And it to put it in perfect perspective, I am with my dad and my brother-in-law, both of which are like more casual hockey fans. And that was like the first time I talked them into doing the Frozen 4 trip. And like they both are like addicted now. So we literally go to every Frozen 4. That’s like our tradition. This year’s in Vegas. [ __ ] yeah. And they both looked at me like halfway through the second period probably. They’re like, “We’re up two zero, but we’re going to lose this game, huh?” I’m like, “Holy [ __ ] you guys can see it, too. It’s really that bad. Got it.” to get a lead and play prevent defense, try and preserve the lead to win against an older, more veteran team. That’ll haunt me forever. And people want to like get mad about like not having Faber on the ice for the opening phase. Like, I’m sorry. Sure, you should have your best guys out there, but I don’t care who’s out there. They shouldn’t get scored on the way they did right away in overtime. That game was lost before overtime happened. It was really shitty to have it over immediately when overtime started, but that game was so it started so great and you just saw the turn where they’re like, “Yep, we’re chipping the puck out to center. If we get past the red line, we’re just throwing it in.” like that. Play your game and you win that probably four to one instead of losing 3-2 in overtime. Like that one sucked. That really really sucked to watch live, especially when you’re not ignorant and like unaware. Like I knew full well for one to two period stretch that the Gophers were going to lose that game and it was painful. Dumb play by Kulie. Sure, but come on blaming the game on him or even saying like, dude, he was reacting to something else that happened. Never retaliate because you’re always going to be the one that’s caught. But like that was a weird chain of events and there were plenty of other penalties that should have been called throughout the game. I’m not going to blame him. It’s easy to point at and say that that was the issue. I get it. And I’m sure he even looks back and kind of blames himself and holds some regret, but like the whole team kind of shut it down and it sucks because that is easily the best Gopher team I’ve ever seen and they Quinnipic as we’ve got Bucha Grass and Kobby Cohen calling it saying we when Quinnipic does something. Oh, but it’s okay guys. Barry Melrose. He’s from Saskatchewan. He’s from Oh, he’s from Saskatoon. He’s He He likes Minnesota. Yeah. I love this. The weirdest comment I’ve ever received, but it’s to this day. Like, I’m so glad it happened because it’s so funny. Cole, yes. Cole, what kind of SPF do you use? I mean, no. No. No. No. So, it was Yeah. Yeah. What What SPF do you use? And he said sunscreen. It’s like I’ll be honest that that quot’s like, “Oh, that’s the best team of all time.” They’re going to win it. They’re never going to lose a game ever again as long as they’re playing. Matty N is definitely the Gopher alum that I most want to get on Fellowship. Yeah, that guy would be a riot. It was very weird at that game. Um, Matty N is a big dude. Agreed. Yes. His older brother is half his height. And I ran into him like during the game and I’m like, “Holy [ __ ] this is like breaking my brain that I have literally a miniature Matty Ny.” And it was even better because I like just like said hi, shook his hand, introduced myself, and like said, “Hey, dude, can I buy you a beer?” And literally within 5 seconds, someone walked up and handed him two beers. He’s like, “I’m good. All right, fuck.” I’m like, “Yeah, all right. You’re good.” Which is fortunate because holy [ __ ] the beers at Om Arena were not cheap. Oh god. Yeah. Uh, and I mean just because [ __ ] uh I think Cole said it also about not to just bring up the game again that the [ __ ] backhand pass from Quinnipiac the OT winner was sick. I mean just the perfect weight right on the tape. 10 seconds into overtime was nasty. But that’s it. Yep. That game will hurt for a long time. Um, but it’s funny because we’re teasing the LJ Mooney interview. I figured for Book of Mammoth, we got to talk about Logan [ __ ] Do you see him being their 1C long term? Does he pivot to the wing? Is he a guy that you think gets dethroned by someone else and pushed down the lineup? Like what is his future as being a staple of the Utah now Mammoth? Formerly hockey club, formerly Coyotes. Formerly hockey go, formerly. Yeah. No, I mean, especially right now, even though the guys they have coming in, I would have been like, he looked that good last year. Like, um, yeah, I’d look him as a one of the future long term for sure. But like he played center last year. Looked incredible. Put up a lot of points. I mean like he’s playing in between Keller and Gunther. That’s [ __ ] just I mean that’s mustwatch TV. That’s a line that’s like yeah I’ll pay to go watch them play. So yeah. No, I definitely Yeah, I think that’s an easy one. No doubt one C long term there. Uh just especially with the guys they have coming in. Like I mean they yes they drafted Caleb Day early this year but I mean even that I said this before he’s just an elite middle six center though was like just such a good like two 3C probably two uh just given that like he does have that legit upside but like like there are very few players that have the same upside as a Logan Cool. I mean he showcased it obviously last year and really popped. Um, and the fact that he’s in between again, get there and Keller is just awesome. So, yeah, that was that’s an easy one. I do think it’s very funny that LJ is going to wear Coolie’s desired number for the Gophers that Koulie couldn’t wear and Coolie’s been stuck on his transition number ever since. He’s wearing 92. Wore 92 in college. won at 18, but that was uh Mason Never. Hard to take uh I guess at that point he was a fourth year. Ended up being a fifth year, but hard to take that kind of guy’s jersey. Yeah. Which is very funny to me. Then LJ comes in, I got to imagine, mostly because of him, which really means we all got to go back and thank Jimmy Snuggard for all of this. That’s true. Because it’ll never be said. It’ll never be proven. I don’t know. If I see him at the Gopher alumni golf outing next week, I’m I’m really tempted to find a way to ask him, but like he absolutely poached him from Notre Dame. You will not convince me otherwise. Yeah. And I love that he did it. That’s our story. We’re sticking to it. I do wonder how much that gets talked about at like World Juniors and stuff. Like guys, I’m shocked it doesn’t happen more that guys that play together the program don’t just like huddle up be like, “Yo, so where should we go together?” Like how is BC landing that line of Will Smith, Gabe Perau, sorry Wild fans who hate Charlie Straml for no reason, and Ryan Leonard? Like, how is that the only time we’ve seen that happen? I don’t know. This cat is going insane. I have to [ __ ] open the door. Oh, this is going to be quite the group Shank. He’s driving me up. He’s literally out there like it was so annoying, dude. Did you hear him? What? No, not at all. Yeah, he was like there the last one was literally like, “Oh my god, dude. But yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know. Like we covered way more than I thought we would. And we’ve gota at least lightly dabble then going back over to just the nonsense we talk about with TV and general entertainment. First one from Cole. Top line from Happy Gilmore 2. I’m going to be honest that I don’t even have a quote. It’s more just the cameos and the moments that I can reference that were great. Like I don’t I I can’t pull a quote. Yeah. I don’t think because most of the good ones would have been repeats. But I will say we’re going to get into bitching session here because I’ve already said it earlier in the show. There were a lot of great moments. Most of the cameos knocked it out of the park. funny. I have a ton of criticisms, but the biggest one and the only one that I’ll do for today because I’m counting on you to watch us at some point so we can actually talk about it, dude. And maybe it’s just because I I I know movies and I remember quotes and like I don’t need reminders. They did a ton of flashbacks within not to like show you something like like hey let’s tie this in. It was hey we just told a joke that’s a callback joke to the original movie. Let us show you the clip from the original movie to make sure you get it. That pissed me right the [ __ ] off. Like oh hey you probably don’t remember this. Like first off I’m a real fan so I absolutely rewatched Happy Gilmore the night before. You pieces of [ __ ] But also, I’m pretty sure there was like one or two things that I might have missed if I hadn’t watched the night before. Like, by and large, like these were all very wellnown things that they’re like, “Oh, hey, in case you forgot, we just want to show you how it actually happened.” I’m like, “No, I’m not about that. You don’t need that.” Yeah. That pissed me off. Yeah. No, that always sticks like, “Hey, remember that though?” I’m like, “Yes, brother.” I mean, yeah, I remember it. Yeah. I mean, the the only line I could pull that I already said was funny. Detroit what? Detroit. What? Technically, yes. Technically, yes. Bob Barker was in the new one. Kind of. But yeah, I I do think that the cameos were generally great. I do think it’s very funny that they had Brooks Kepka and Scotty Sheffller out there essentially trying to stop a different version of the Liv tour from being created to take over the PGA when they were the front people to go and join Liv and say screw you PGA. That was very funny to me. Um, I don’t know. I do wish that there were more like quotes that I could pull, but they’re just Yeah, the cameos though, like they had no shortage, whether it was like celebrities outside of golf to a ton of pro golfers. I saw my boy Frozone was in there. Tony Feno. Yep. The the one that I’ll uh I don’t know if this is random or if there’s any truth to it, but they’re having like the the banquet for guys that have won the green jacket, you know, except in this, you know, gold jacket, whatever. Um, Freddy Couples is sitting there at the table and everyone just knows like if you’re not gonna eat your desserts, give them over to him because Freddy Couples wants your dessert. Hell yeah. I love Freddy and funny but dumb at the same time. Travis Kelce has a cameo that I actually very much enjoyed even though it was kind of stupid and meatthead. I mean, that’s that sounds about right. The one I will admit, the one cameo that I had no idea about, the guy who ends up playing uh Happyy’s Caddy, I had no idea that that was apparently a rapist. Don’t know anything about him. Um I’m trying to remember what. Um I’m just going to Google it now because I’ll feel bad not knowing it. Happy Gilmore to Caddy. This cat is definitely about to jump on this desk. Add bunny. Oh, I did hear that he was in that. I did hear that he was okay. He actually did a great job. I thought he played the role very well, but uh yeah, I had no idea that that was quote unquote bad bunny. I don’t not familiar. He’s big time. He’s big time. The best cameo though. Lots of appearances from John Dailyaly. That rocks. Which someone actually threw it in the chat. I got to see if I can find it now. Yep. Here it is. Cole, don’t forget to feed John Dailyaly three times a day. It’s ridicul. Oh Jesus. Jupiter are a bad bunny. I feel bad now. All right. I was going to say like that’s that’s one that like pretty much everyone knows. I I first off I’m not a music guy in general. Definitely not rap. Definitely not like current rap. Apparently, there’s some guy who’s literally just called the baby or something. Yep. Yeah, that’s just not in my realm. The baby actually remove duh more clean. Did you hear that one off of Facebook? Huh? I can’t hear anything that’s happening over there. He’s going insane right now. The way you’re looking down and saying he’s going insane. Ow. Mother [ __ ] [ __ ] He just jumped on my leg and claws went in. Stop being a dick. He’s literally yelling it. You’re getting sprayed, bro. I do. I do like the call back to this one. Cosg girl. Fair. I eat pieces of [ __ ] like you for breakfast. You eat [ __ ] for breakfast? No. But the bigger one, and I won’t spend a ton of time on it because I’m guessing you haven’t watched this yet either. Did you watch the the premiere of the newest season of South Park? I saw the big clips. It rocks. Especially the context of everything. It’s amazing. But do you know do you understand like the full backstory? Like remove Trump. All right, I’ll step it back. I’m definitely not going to hit this super succinctly because I have zero notes, but essentially Paramount just signed a 10year Oh, yeah. That deal with South Park. South Park release releases the first episode Thursday, the day before a merger is supposed to go through between Paramount and like is it Sky Dance or something like that? Sky Dance. Yeah. Yep. And apparently it goes deeper because South Park apparently has been like dragged and [ __ ] around by Paramount with like different streaming deals and trying to like push for exclusivity and it’s just been a pain in the ass and 1.5 billion 1.5 Well, so the 1.5 billion just happened, but apparently their merger was only being held up by a lawsuit from Trump for some reason and they’re just like what if we just pay him the like 20 million or whatever it is that he’s looking for in the settlement so that we can move forward and do this merger. Trey and Matt say challenge accepted. their goal. While they did drag Paramount in part of the episode, they definitely went hard at Donald Trump. That that’s putting it lightly. And they were basically trying to rage bait him to open up lawsuit again and [ __ ] the merger because they’re still pissed that Paramount has [ __ ] them around so much in holding up like different streaming deals for them. Imagine one episode in to a I think or no it was a five-year deal 10 episodes per season or something like that. Imagine being one episode into 50 episode commitment and immediately going after the guys that just gave you $1.5 billion dollars. Oh yeah. No. So I knew that. I knew that backtory. I wasn’t sure if there was different one, but like Yeah. Oh yeah. But what gets overlooked and I won’t even get into the Trump stuff because uh yeah, Jupy hit it. Saddam Hussein is all you need to know. They they basically directly called him Saddam Hussein and had some very funny jokes to go along with it. What got buried was Cartman being an absolute [ __ ] gem in this. He is upset because NPR gets shut down by Trump. And Cartman loves nothing more than listening to NPR and hearing the stupid libs, quote unquote. Yeah, that’s what I And now he doesn’t know what to do with his life because he can’t listen to and make fun of stupid lips and it’s gone. So, like he’s mad that woke is gone, but not because he like supports being woke, quote unquote, but because he can’t make fun of woke people. And I feel like with all the stuff with Trump and all the news around Paramount, like people are just shoving aside this brilliant satire about Cartman losing his identity because he can’t make fun of people when really like some people would look at it as like, oh no, he’s sad that like people aren’t woke anymore. It’s like, no, he’s sad he can’t make fun of him anymore. That’s it. Yeah. Yeah. They’re they rock, dude. The South Park dudes. They’re the best. It’s They’ve been pretty hit or miss for the last couple of seasons. This episode alone has restored my faith that Trey Matterback. Like I really hope this is a precursor and setting the tone for what the rest of the season’s going to be because I I am so dialed and ready. I’m so excited. They are back in their bag. Hell yeah, dude. You You remind me a lot of some guy I used to date. Like you were the exact same. Oh, Satan, did you did you see the AI ending of the episode? Yep. Oh, yeah. They they really were like I wasn’t even prepared for that. Anyone listening, you can just go watch the episode for yourself. And oh my god, no [ __ ] given. Uh Cosg Gro, I disagree. I think 30 million per episode is an underpayment. They are geniuses. Go watch Book of Mormon and tell me I’m wrong. Incredible. Best Broadway show that’s ever been made, man. But yeah, I just had to They’re back. I’m so happy. I’m happy for me and I’m happy for all of you. But I think uh I don’t know, Z. I think that that closes here for us on this July 29 recording with no wild news. Nothing to talk about besides World Juniors, and we still managed to get over the hour and a half mark. Mhm. That’s right. I’m like actually the guarding league got back into baseball and now I’m like liking I’m like [ __ ] I’m like god damn it. What have I done to myself? You’ve got to watch South Park. You’ve got to watch Happy Gilmore 2. Yeah, there’s a lot on the list now, dude. For yourself. Well, yeah. That’ll do it for now. That did it. God damn it. No, Matteo. I actually have to close this out myself. Do Do you have any Do you have any favorite South Park quotes? I will. I will not be able to pull one. All right. Favorite original Happy Gilmore quote. Cursley Adams did have a beard. I like that was like that would always just got me. They do a call back to this one. It’s not the exact quote, but close enough. My favorite quote. Actually, I’ll start with my favorite moment from the original. The batting cage can’t be just goes out just taking him to the chest getting 364 more days until next hockey try out and then the kid goes in after him and just gets [ __ ] annihilated. was the kid when he goes in just like it just evaporates. Yeah. Yeah. But my favorite quote and I’m just avoiding all the Ben Stiller stuff because oh my god he’s great and he’s quite interesting in Happy Gilmore 2 as well. But uh I always gravitated towards Somebody’s Closer. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music]

Happy Gilmore 2 and funny shouldn't be in the same sentence
Hockey is 100x better from the ends so you can see everything.
I couldn't care less about showcases. I can't wait for real hockey to start.
The cat chronicles with Spoked Z 😂
