THE PERFECT TRADE TARGET FOR STEVE YZERMAN: DOUGIE HAMILTON TO DETROIT?
It’s actually not a bad idea. The only question is whether or not it’s actually possible. And I think when it comes to a lot of Detroit Red Wings related conversation, that is the main idea that Wings fans have to tangle with themselves and thinking about could the Detroit Red Wings actually make this move? Could they actually acquire this guy? Is Stevie Y willing to shell out the necessary assets to make a trade work to make a big move work? We know Eerman said at the beginning of the off season that essentially the Wings were kind of crap out of luck. They got some guys. They got James Van Reamedike. They got Mason Appleton. But other than that, the biggest free agents that they could have gone out there and tried to get, they all stuck around with their old teams. Or they went to places that we all knew they were going to go. Marner went to Vegas. Eers went to Carolina. Kandre Miller was also in Carolina. And then you had Gaov. Oh, Gaverov. You never forget about Gaov. But aside from the extra pieces around the edges, the Red Wings didn’t really make too many huge acquisitions. They resigned Patrick Kane, which I guess is pretty big in and of itself, but still there is room for extra star power and extra upwards potential for the names on the Detroit Red Wings, which is why we are heading over to New Jersey and talking about a guy who, in my opinion, is a very strong trade candidate here. And the reason we are bringing up Douggee Hamilton’s name of the New Jersey Devils once again is because of a piece published on Detroit Redwings.com by Bruce Raymond. This article was published yesterday or earlier this morning, I think, and it will be linked in the description below. But I like this piece because it goes out there and brings up what was talked about at the beginning of July. In this time frame to open up free agency, the Red Wings were confirmed to have completed a phone call involving trade talks surrounding Douggee Hamilton. This was all the way back a month ago and it spoke about how there were teams calling about Douggee Hamilton. The Maple Leafs were one of the teams involved here. So were the Stars, Red Wings, and Mammoth, who have been pushing hard to acquire a right shot Dman that can bolster their offense and improve their power play. So these teams make a ton of sense as Douggee Hamilton trade call suitors. We did make a video on this YouTube channel a month ago saying that, yeah, these teams were involved. Douggee Hamilton is a big right-handed defenseman. And these teams, I mean, you talk about Detroit, we’ve been speaking about Eric Carlson for most of the past few weeks. We also had a conversation or two or maybe five about Eric Ecklad who ended up staying in Florida. So again, that kind of was not available there for Stevie Y. But Douggee Hamilton is a player that if he is on the block, if he is in a position to get moved, if teams are calling for him, if he is in a vulnerable spot in New Jersey, this guy could be everything the Red Wings need. He’s 32 years old, 66 229, a right-handed Dman signed onto a beefy deal, $9 million a year till the end of 2027 2028. The deal was 7 years long, which admittedly was seen as h do I want to say it was fair back when it was signed. I mean, okay, the first season of Douggee Hamilton’s $9 million AAV payout was 21-22. In 2122, he was coming off of a 42 point and 55game campaign with the Hurricanes. Ah, yeah, that’s right. The Devils really wanted this dude. And to be fair, it did pay off to some capacity the next little while. 74 points and 22 goals in 82 games in 2223. That is number one defenseman caliber production. Not to mention the fact that Douggee Hamilton is huge. There’s a reason why he keeps on getting evaluated and brought on to these teams. And there’s a reason why he keeps on scoring all these points. He’s been pretty consistent aside from the years where he doesn’t play too many games like 23 24 for example. 16 points not great but only 20 games played. The point per game number is actually really solid there. He just needed more games. This recent season Douggee Hamilton only scored 40 points but it was in 64 total games played. So still the point production per game rate is not bad. You would like to see a little bit more out of Douggee Hamilton. It’s just now if he’s in a vulnerable spot in New Jersey, if the Devils have themselves a decor that doesn’t necessarily rely too much on Hamilton, if they have these other guys that are going to be making money, that are going to be making an impact longer term. You can debate whether Douggee is really the guy in New Jersey, especially with Luke Hughes on the rise. That guy’s an absolute stud in his own right. So, let’s dive into this article published on Red Wings insider about Douggee Hamilton. These rumors and speculations began when Devil’s GM admitted that the organization would need to alleviate gap space as a major priority for him was to resign Luke Hughes. However, the calendar has now flipped to August and Hughes has still yet to sign a contract with the Devils. This silence has never been so loud and fans are continuing to speculate that Detroit is inches. Okay, that’s a little bit rambunctious there. We’re not going to go out there and fully conclude that. I think there’s a difference between making a video about it, between talking about the possibility, between discussing what it could look like and saying in an article, “Oh, people think that he is coming over to Detroit. Let’s not go there.” Okay, let’s continue on here. I like this part of the article, though. This one, I don’t really like it, but this is pretty well written. Although Hamilton still has three years left in his 7-year, $63 million deal, the former first round pick could single-handedly solidify the Red Wings blue line. 32-year-old Hamilton is 66, and he can add offense alongside his impeccable defensive skills and can play on the second pairing behind Moider. Having a one-two punch of Cider and Hamilton could bolster the Wings roster to new dimensions and could bring this regular season team into massive contention. Do you think the Wings will acquire Douggee Hamilton this off season? Although it is uncertain, fans are extremely hopeful. And knowing what I know about Red Wings Insider. Yeah, here we go. Let’s do it. A bunch of answers here. 8 minutes ago. Do you think the Red Wings will acquire Douggee Hamilton? Let’s say I hope so. If we click on that, where does the poll take us? Okay, so a bunch of fans are saying yes. A bunch of fans are saying no. A bunch of fans are saying I hope so. And a bunch are saying I hope not. It kind of seems all over the place here, but I do think that when you talk about guys that can relieve the load for Morids Cider, yes, you can say that Eric Carlson has that offensive edge. And it would be funny to see so many Swedish guys on the Red Wings blue line. Edinson, Johansson, Gustiffson, Carlson, Axel, Sandine, Pelica. But having a Douggee Hamilton is a lot more versatile. And I don’t know about you, but I think that Douggee Hamilton is a lot more of a valuable NHL defender right now than Eric Carlson is. Not because Eric Carlson is like terrible or whatever. I mean, he’s not great defensively. He’s really good offensively, but the thing is Douggee Hamilton, you might be sacrificing a little bit of that offensive flare for a lot more stability in every other zone. So, if you get yourselves a 70point season out of Douggee, which is not impossible, then you’re already besting yourself over Eric Carlson, assuming he sticks around in the territory that he’s at, especially at the dollar amount that he’s making. Douggee Hamilton’s making 9 million bucks for a reason. He can do it all. And if he is played behind Mo Cider, that makes Cider better, too. This guy doesn’t need to be overcharged and played in every important situation with the team because you have that one-two punch. Eric Carlson, I don’t think is reliable enough to fully take over the halfload of Morett Cider in the same way that Douggee Hamilton can. So, with Wings fans talking all this talk about Eric Carlson, I propose to you Douggee Hamilton. Maybe the price is a lot higher here. There are other teams involved. We’ve got Dallas. We’ve got Toronto. The Mammoth have been linked to Hamilton, but the Red Wings have been as well. Do you think this is a good idea? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. What do you think a trade could look like? I hope you enjoyed this Switish 99 and bye.

At first I cringed at the notion of another aging Dman but his numbers look good and he would be a good leader on the team.
Would miss him in NJ but a luxury we can't afford at this point
It's a cap dump. I wouldn't pay more than a bottom. Six in a second round pick for him.
I'd take him over E.K. but the cap dump helps NJ more than his presence is going to help DET especially long term….. unless salary is retained but why would NJ even consider that?
He’s been out 40% of the games, the past 5 seasons. Too much money for a guy on the wrong side of 30.
Leggi, you take up drinking gin?!
Hamilton would be a solid option that would push us into the playoffs I think. Go for it!
