Tank’s Ballpark Tour: Coors Field Home of the Colorado Rockies
Coors Field has been the home of the Colorado Rockies for 30 years. Opened in 1995, the Rockies got their own stadium after playing their first two seasons at Mile High Stadium. At Mile High Stadium, the Rockies set attendance records as Denver caught baseball fever when expansion came in 1993.
Coors Field is known for its breathtaking sunsets and high-scoring games, as the thin mountain air has led to offensive explosions. Pitching has been difficult in Colorado, as the ballpark’s dimensions often lead to high batting averages for the Rockies’ hometown players, while pitching has always been a struggle.
In designing Coors Field, the Rockies wanted to give fans a taste of the Rocky Mountains and did a great job as fans flock to Coors Field even when the Rockies are among the worst teams in baseball.
