I know we ask a lot of you, but this is for a great cause. Big Brothers, big sisters. So, donate. You’ll feel good about yourself. Um, I think that’s it. I think that’s it, Bren. I’m fairly certain that’s everything I got to tell you about. So, that now we can get to the big deal presented by Cherry Hill Mitsubishi. And uh earlier today when I was planning the show, I thought the big deal was going to be Oh, Ann Leier, he took a job with the New York Islanders, Anthony DeMarco reported it earlier uh today. He’s going to be a pro scout for the Isisles. But then we started to get some reporting from Frank Saravali, from Puckedia, from all over the place that parts of the new CBA, which actually don’t go into effect as a whole until September 20 or September 15th, 2026. Some of it is just being implemented right now. We got Okay, they’re going to do the uh they’re going to do the salary cap for uh for the playoffs for this coming season. Um uh I think the it’s going to be yeah the dress code and players are able to uh endorse wine and spirits and things like that. All of a sudden, uh, those rules have all changed. And then suddenly we got reporting that the exceptional status rule for the AHL, which would allow every team one player who was 19 years old to be loaned to their AHL affiliate, would be uh put into effect this season. Well, it doesn’t appear as if that is going to be the case, or at least it has not been determined yet. Uh, at first Puckedia reported that it was happening. I think they have since changed uh what they have on their website, but Charlie tweeted a little bit earlier that uh per a team source, the Flyers are still operating on the belief that the 19year-olds in the AHL rule won’t kick in until 2026 27. That would mean no Luchenko in the AHL this year. And uh Jackie Spiegel also reported uh per a league according to a league source the AHL loan for one 19 year old player per team is not one of the CBA changes that is effective immediately. So it sounds like maybe there still could be some negotiating uh negotiations with the CHL to kind of massage this and make it work. It seems like as of right now, this uh exceptional status thing is not going to go into effect for this season, which really does put a damper on uh on what I thought was a really good idea. There’s absolutely no reason teams can’t have their own prospects who are signed two contracts uh play in their play in their league because it’s a 20 it’s a 20 and over league which I I just I think that’s dumb. Like they’re your your player. You have them signed to a contract but you they they have to go play in G because the CHL says so. Like I don’t know. Why do they get a say at all? Like who cares? Who cares what the CHL thinks? I know you want to have a good relationship with the feeder leagues and everything, the young juniors leagues, all that, but at the end of the day, every player in those leagues wants to go to the NHL. That is the end goal or be a professional in some way. It’s all it’s incumbent on the CHL to make nice with the NHL, not the other way around. And I know that with if you don’t have the superstars and everything uh in those leagues like they won’t be able to support themselves because less and less people will go. But here’s the thing, the Conor McDavids of the world, the Mlin Celebrinis of the world, they play in the a in the NHL at 18. You’re not going to have those guys for their age, you know, 18, 19, 20 seasons anyway. It’s really the Jet Luchenkos, the second tier, guys, and it’s only one per team that they’re allowing. Like, I I I don’t see why this is going to be a negotiation at all. I I feel like the NHL can just go, “Yeah, 19-year-olds are allowed to be loaned to the AHL. Deal with it, CHL.” And that’s kind of the situation, but not the case. Uh, so we will see what goes on with Jet Luchenko. It would have been so freaking nice to be able to kind of have our hands on Luchenko and get to see him up close, get to see him in Lehi Valley, get to see him against other pros, play against men, and kind of train him in a way in a way that’s going to better his NHL career because yeah, there is the okay, well, he can go to G and dominate and be a really good player and lead the offensive charge. charge and I suppose that that would have its benefits, play a big role at World Juniors, but I just don’t know if that’s the type of player ultimately Jet Luchenko is going to be. Now, yeah, I I think he’s got 2C upside, really good 2C upside. We’ll see how it all works out. But if he’s more of a details guy, if he’s more of a matchups guy, if it’s, yeah, he provides some offense, but it’s really second line offense and we love him for all the other things he does for us. I think he’s got a better chance of playing in that role. So, he’s kind of ready to hit the ground running in the NHL by doing that in the AHL. But, we will see how it all works out. I suppose there’s still a chance uh this thing could come to fruition, but as of now uh according to Charlie and Jackie Spiegel, the Puck Pedia report from earlier has been amended and 19year-old exceptional status in the AHL is not happening right now. It’s going to happen next season. That’s a bummer. Uh because it doesn’t it doesn’t matter to the Flyers next year. I want it now because we have Jet Luchenko right now. you drafted the guy at 17 years old and he’s got to stay in a league that isn’t really beneficial to him. I It’s annoying, but that is the uh the big deal presented by Cherry Hill Mitsubishi. Uh we will still see what sort of uh what the final what the final version of the CBA roll out as they kind of do this transition thing. Let’s see. is uh yeah, Puckedia still has it. AHL loans for 19-year-old player. Oh, okay. Not yet in effect, but an effort is being made to negotiate with the CHL for the 2526 season. All right. So, that’s a little clarification. They’re working on it. We’ll see. But teams, including the Flyers, operating under the assumption right now 19 year olds are not going to be able to play in the AHL. Um, if there’s an update during the show, let me know. Other stuff that is going on though, um they are rolling out no deferred compensation. Uh as of October 7th, 2025, uh you can’t have what was it the Jarvis contract, I think, in uh in Carolina. There’s been a couple of deferred money situations. That’s going away on October 7th. Uh there is a restriction on paper loans. This is interesting. So teams can’t loan a guy to the AHL, their waiver exempt players, in order to acrue cap space on off days and then just recall them. Um teams like Montreal were hoping to take advantage of this uh because of the carry price contract and now it looks like you’re not going to be able to do that. So he’s got to get traded. There’s a lot going on with that. But that’s the restriction on paper loans. Um there’s a restriction on second retention on a traded contract that’s going into effect this year. So you can’t uh when you trade a player and there’s a retained salary, he can’t be traded again inside of I think 75 days. So you can’t get that double retention. So maybe this could mean players are traded sooner in order to get the ball rolling on such a thing. uh a little sooner in the season, we could see some trades, but with the implementation of the playoff salary cap now, uh you have to put a roster into the league register game day roster. The guys who are going to dress have to be cap compliant. Uh that’s going to affect these playoffs. So ultimately, all of this is probably going to lead to a lot less of a fun trade deadline day. And uh I don’t know, it’s usually not that crazy to begin with. We always get all built up for trade deadline day and then it’s like, oh yeah, nothing really happened. Um so that’s going into effect. It that’s probably going to put a damper on trade deadline day. And the four recall rule after the trade deadline, you’re going to be able to call up five guys. You’re going to be able to make five recalls um after the trade deadline, not four, but no more than four can be on the roster at a time. So, it’s still you can’t have five guys up right after the deadline, but there’s still a restriction, but they added a uh a fifth one to it. So, those are the CBA things being implemented right now or right when the season starts. Um, obviously all the other stuff, contract term limit and all that. That doesn’t go into effect in until September 15th of next year, but uh yeah, that’s what we got. They are rolling out the CBA in bits and pieces. Some of it now, some of it prior to next season, so July 1st basically, and some of it on September 16th, 2026. I don’t know why they’re doing it this way, but cool. I like that the players don’t have to wear a suit. That’s fun. They’re all going to anyway because they’re all boring as hell, but um it’s just getting all this together before the show like, “Oh yeah, we’re doing a mailbag today. It’s going to be fun.” It’s like, yeah, like a third of the CBA is going into effect right now. Like, oh, okay, cool. But that is what we know as of now in terms of the CBA. And with that, let’s throw it to our first commercial break. Got to lead it off with our friends at Xfinity. You know, this is the Xfinity studio. And I was just telling a friend the other day, man, you got this great setup. I know you’re excited. We’re going, you want to have everybody over for the Eagles game on uh on Thursday. All right, let’s get to some mailbag questions, folks. Uh oh, good. I like this. Oh, that’s an awesome That’s great for two reasons, Bren. One, it’s just cool looking, and two, gives me an excellent break to uh to drink water like I normally do just whenever Charlie’s talking. All right. So, we got through Oh, hi. I like that. I like this. Brenda gets on camera a little bit. My horrifying profiles on camera. I It’s just off-putting. But no, this is fun. This is It’s We’re experimenting today. First day of September. All right, let’s get to the mailbag. All right, couple of things right to lead off from It’s so hard to say both. Tuanjon Twan Tuanjon. Is that how you would say it? Okay. All right. So, this is a two-parter and both of these we got answers to today. Uh, sort of or at least something related to it. First question, has Zagen completed his military requirement? Now, this is something I have no idea about. No clue. I don’t know what sort of Russian military requirements are, you know, asked of their 18 to 24 year olds or whatever the however the old Ivan Fedottov was. So I reached out to a member of the Flyers organization. That’s right. Without Charlie here, I did some Capital Journalizing. It would be this way, right? Yeah, that’s how it looks on the camera. Capital Journalizing. And that member of the organization I asked out of curiosity is Zagan subject to a military commitment like Fedotav was. And they replied without getting into details, no he’s not. Fed’s story is complicated. Thanks, Bill. All right. I don’t know why they felt the need to thank me. Uh it was nice of them to reply, but yeah. So it turns out, I suppose at least the Flyers are under the impression that there won’t be the added political, military, whatever the hell happened with uh with Fedotav, that is not going to be part of when or where or how they bring over Zagen, which is great because he’s uh right now if you go to allphy.com, you know, if you’re die if you’re not a diehard, sign up. Uh Charlie and Alex Appleard just put out their top 20 Flyers prospects heading into the fall. And Zagen number two, I think he’s tied for number two. Uh Martone was number one. I don’t remember who. I guess it’s got to be Jet Luchenko probably. Uh regardless, yeah. Um no military no military commitment. Uh second part of the question, how disappointing would it be if Lucenko doesn’t make the team out of camp now? It would be disappointing just because I want him on the team. Uh it’s more interesting when there’s a 19-year-old rookie on the team. Like that’s just kind of fun. We talked about this, Charlie and I, I don’t know, two weeks ago. When the hell was the last time we were on together? Um we did Friday, but that was an F around Friday. Does that even count? Um we talked about this a week or two ago. I love having Brin here just as my audience so I can get the laugh. It’s like the laugh track. I need to pause for it like a sitcom. Uh but anyway, um what was I talking about? Luchenko out of I’m not making the team out of camp yet. It would be a bummer just cuz like we want him here, right? It’s more fun. But the way in which they have addressed the center position this season, it’s just more set, not settled, but I would say to start the year at least, we have a better idea of who the centers are going to be. Shan Couttoriier finished the year strong. Looked good last year. The previous year heading into last season, it was like, oh, I don’t is he going to play 40 games? He looked terrible. Uh, at least as of right now, I’m kind of expecting a similar season out of Coots where he plays the majority of the games and looks decent enough in them. So, that’s one center spot. You went and got Trevor Zegress. You need to give him any and all opportunity to be a center because that’s where he has been productive in his career and that’s what they badly need in this organization. That’s two center spots. Noah Kates, he spent a year on the wing. He was getting scratched for Jet Luchenko to start last season. Noah Kates has proven himself to be an effective 3C in this league. That’s a spot taken. You went and got D’vorak. There’s a center. You have guys like Ables who can step in and not look out of place. They have centers. They have a better understanding of the center position than they did last year. Also, they don’t have a crazy person coaching the team who just doesn’t like one of the centers. So, he’s going to Oh, yeah. you know, like I’m going to start yet fourth line left wing a game. Like he’s the team’s best center still. But yeah, we’re going to we’re going to do this to embarrass you purposefully, I guess. Um, that’s not going on. That said, now it I I was I had a roller coaster ride with this part of the question today as I’m thinking, oh, well, if he doesn’t make the team, he can just go to the Phantoms. And now it’s, well, maybe, maybe not. We’re kind of not sure if he’s going to be able to go to the Phantoms. So, it would be disappointing, but I don’t think it necessarily shows a step back in his development because the team’s just in a different spot. And hopefully, he’s going to be able to play in the AHL this year. We’ll see how it turns out. But it’ll be disappointing from a ah that kind of sucks. I wanted to see him, but not a uh he’s a bust. Like, I’m not going to think that if he doesn’t make the team. Now, if he has a terrible camp, I’m going to go that’s not great. Uh, but if he just has a fine camp but doesn’t Oh, man. He has to be here. We have to have him in the NHL. I am not going to fret over that. All right, that’s question one. I have longer answers when it’s just me. I have to like give other people time to speak when they’re on the show, but if it’s just me, I can I can just go until I’m tired of talking. Um, all right. Next question is from Devin. I love this. He just asked, “Favorite hockey is back thing that happens every year.” Uh, it’s just so many little things. Like, I will say while I loved the noon show because it gave me like the entire day during the summer, it’s pretty cool like doing stuff and accomplishing things before I come into work. Like just the show moving to four o’clock and the idea that the season’s here and like getting our plan together. like for per me personally, that’s one of my favorite parts. But seeing, you know, they unveil the uh the new Exfinity Mobile Arena today. It’s no longer the Wells Fargo Center. It’s the Exfinity Mobile Arena. They’re painting the ice. They have it all ready to go. You’re seeing Couturier and Sanheim. You’re starting to see guys trickle into the Flyers Training Center in Vorhees. Just the ramp up like this time of year. Kind of like the uh the hope springs eternal idea, I guess. I I think that’s fun. I I just I’m excited for the new season. Like I know it’s okay, man. 82 games pre and post, non-game days, four o’clock, all this other stuff. It’s a little bit of a grind. I won’t call it a real grind because like it’s just doing this. I’m I’m not digging ditches, but like I just like the ramp up right now I is what I get excited for. Like all right, here we go. Um, but the rookie game, love the rookie game, too. It’s a lot of the time, the only time you get to see so many of these prospects and young players up close. Uh, and my entire opinion on them is formed based on these two games against another team’s rookies. Uh, so I I love the rookie game just as a hockey is back thing because that’s the first real action we get. It was so fun last year seeing Luchenko and Mishkov. We unfortunately won’t get Martone this year, but we’ll get a lot of other guys. So, that’ll be fun. And that’s uh what’s that 10 days from now, Bren? It’s the 12th and 13th or the 11th and 12th. I think it’s the 12th and 13th. So, it’s like 10 11 days from right now is the rookie game. So, it is upon us. uh just like you know the uh the season as a whole is looking forward to that though. Those are some of the uh some of my favorite hockey is back things. Let’s go to Fransky and LA. They this is one of one of the best uh baseball Phillies Twitter follows and they ask more wins in October Samson or the Phillies. So I took a look at the Flyers October schedule. First of all, I’m just gonna tell you the Phillies. It freaking better be the Phillies. Um, even if Sam starts all 10 games and wins them all, it should still be the Phillies. Anyway, uh, the Flyers have 10 games in October. Two of them are against the defending champs. So, right there, let’s just knock it down to eight. Um, I also don’t want Ericson playing more than half the games, especially in the early part of the season when we’re kind of trying to figure out what Vladar is doing. Where does where do he and Erison kind of fit as a tandem? Is it a starter backup role? Is it an even split? Is it a 1A 1B sort of thing? I want them basically alternating starts for the first two months. Er has proven the more he plays the worse it goes. I think he has a future in this league as a backup, maybe a tandem starter. But he’s to me proven one thing. He’s not a 55game guy. He’s just not that. He can’t handle that workload. He gets hurt. He wears down. He gets pulled from games early. It just goes downhill real real quick. So there’s no reason for him to start more than five or six games in October. Absolutely no reason to give him that sort of workload that early in the year when we don’t know what the hell either of these guys are going to be this year. So if we’re talking about five or six, I think the Flyers are going to be better than last year. But are they going to win all of Sam Harrison starts? I doubt it. The Phillies have to win more. They for for the sanity of this city. The Phillies have to win more than five or six October games. We badly need them to go on a playoff run. This is the championship window right now. This year and next year. I’m not counting on there being a 2027 season. In fact, I’m pretty sure there won’t be. I’ve seen this happen in hockey enough to know. Yeah, man. when the owners are fighting with each other, there’s going to be a labor dispute. So, it’s right now I believe is the Phillies championship window 2025 and 2026 if they can, you know, bring back Schwarber and maybe Ranger. They need to at least get to the NLCS, if not go to and win the freaking World Series. So, that’s going to take more than five or six wins. Therefore, it’s got to be the Phils. All right. Evan, oh man, I can’t I can’t deal with another early exit for the Phils. Like, if they get bounced by the freaking Mets again, I The Eagles are going to have to go undefeated for me to be able to deal with that. Quite honestly, I The Flyers are going to be what they are. Luckily, like my mental like my mental stability doesn’t hinge on the flyers because I get to make content out of it either way. Like when they’re maddening and suck, it’s like that’s bad, but at least like I can have a show where I go on rants and it’ll be fun and that’s good for my career. I can deal with that. If the Phillies just lose to the Mets again or something, I that’s that just hurts. It just hurts me so bad. And I think a lot of people feel the same way. So we need we need more than five or six wins from the from the Phils in October. All right, the question from Evan. Uh, I love this so much. McDavid to Philly would never happen, but is there a world where the Flyers could trade for Quinn Hughes or sign him as a free agent in 2027? Uh, given the topic connection and the dire need for a number one defenseman and what could that trade contract look like? It’s now the smart money the favorite to get Quinn Hughes because it really listen a lot of guys oh man he’s leaving he’s leaving and then they end up never leaving but it does kind of feel like all signs are pointing towards Quinn Hughes not staying in Vancouver for the entirety of his career. A lot of people believe that the Devils are trying to get all three Hughes brothers together. They are keeping an eye on the situation. They’re doing they might try to do whatever it takes to have Jack, Quinn, and Luke all together on the same team. Objectively, that would be pretty cool to have three brothers all on one team. Uh even if it is the freaking Josh Harris own Devils. That part would suck. Um but I don’t know how realistic that is. Luke Hughes right now unsigned. Again, the season starts very soon. Luke Hughes is without a contract in New Jersey. Now, he’s a restricted free agent, and I’m pretty sure he’s not offer sheet eligible, so he ain’t going anywhere. Uh, but I read on Sportset that he wants a five-year deal so that it lines up with the expiration of Jack’s contract in New Jersey, and they would be free agents at the same time. I guess 2030, 31, something like that. And the Devils either want Luke to sign a three-year bridge or commit to the full eight years because starting in uh September 16th of next year, eight-year deals are gone. Seven is the max. They want him to commit to the full eight like Jack did or just sign a three-year bridge deal. Luke seems to be holding firm at five. He wants to be a free agent the same year Jack is a free agent. It kind of feels like there’s a Hughes problem in New Jersey. So, while it’s like, “Oh, yeah, they’re gonna get all three.” It’s kind of a foregone conclusion at one point, I wonder if this opens the window for Quinn to be like, “Well, I don’t know if we’re all going to be able to play together, especially like if Luke is also awesome. Who the hell is going to be able to afford all three of them?” Uh maybe the taket connection maybe it could work because Quinn was advocating for Vancouver to bring back and it was basically a situation of we’re not going to hold a guy hostage if he doesn’t want to be here. He’s he’s he can leave, you know, sort of like that. But he was wellliked. Tak was wellliked by Quinn Hughes. Is that going to be enough? No. We’re going to have to pony up a whole bunch of money and hope for the best really. But I would love to be able to get the chance to trade for him, have him ingrained in the culture, and kind of sell him on the idea of being here forever. And hey, maybe you talk one or two of your brothers into coming here. Forget going to New Jersey. Who the hell wants to be in New Jersey? I love Jersey, but not Newark, not North Jersey. Talking about real Jersey, South Jersey, that’s where you want to be. Philadelphia, the Delaware Valley. Maybe you can talk all three of them into coming here. Wouldn’t that be fun if we had the three Hughes brothers here after it looked like the Devils were going to get all three of them? But what would that tradecontract look like? I mean, it’s double digits. It’s 10 plus probably. My god, when’s he eligible? I He’s eligible for a contract next summer. So, we could be talking 14 15 million bucks uh AAV probably minimum. I mean, he’s one of the two best defenseman in the league. Quinn Hughes is freaking awesome. He might have a claim to being better than Kale Mar just based on like on ice results. He doesn’t also he also, you know, not on a star-studded team the way Kale Macar is. Not to take anything away from Macar talking about these guys as one and two in some order. Um it’s going to be 15 million bucks minimum probably. And if we’re talking a trade, that probably depends on if you get them signed to a contract or not when you make the trade because, you know, you’re not going to be willing to give up as much for a potential rental. But if you get the contract extension in place like Dallas did with Ranton, and you’re talking probably multiple first round picks, maybe some young guys that you you’re not crazy about parting with, but that’s what it’s going to take. It would take a lot. It is going to be a huge financial commitment and a huge Yeah, man. They we got to give them a lot back because this is a really really good player. Um I never know like hypothetical tra I never know but I would assume at least one first round pick several top prospects maybe or roster players perhaps. I would say anybody but Matt Mishkov is on the table in that situation. I that would be my guess. Um go from there. Uh but it starts at 15 mil. That’s why in this situation, I’d rather sign him as a free agent because then you know you have them locked in and you didn’t have to give up anything but the money. There were no other assets involved. But if you want to get a trade done so you can maybe get it done early, I understand that as well. It’s just going to be freaking expensive. Uh, but let’s allow ourselves to dream on Quinn Hughes a little bit because of Rick Tocket. You know that maybe maybe it it works out. This Rick Tocket hire that I was down on at first. Maybe it has some benefits as well. Maybe Quinn Hughes is one of them. That would be fun. All right. Uh, let’s do one more before the break. Let’s go to Josh White. He asks, “Uh, what does your power play one look like for game one?” I would guess Mishkov and TK are locks. And then he goes on, would you say Tippet, Dale, Coot, Zegris, Forester with healthy, etc. My locks right now are Mishkov, Zegris, and Dale. I want those three creating together because I think that’s the long-term future. Now, if after a couple of weeks it’s like, yeah, Dale not getting it done. Let’s try York. I’m open to that. Certainly open to that. But right now, it’s Mishkov Ziggress Dale. I think you have to have Couttoriier out there to win faceoffs. He’s the only center right now that’s shown like he can win some faceoffs. He gives you some size. He can win battles. He can win battles for loose pucks. He can get in on the forche. I think you kind of have to have Coots out there. Uh netfront guy and then yeah, I think it’s got to be TK because he’s just their best offensive player. Now that might stop being true game one, but right now look at his look at his production. I would call I would call TK right now their uh their best offensive player and Mishkov could supplant him as soon as the first shift of the first game this year. But he had 52 assists last year. Like that is an incredible number. Not a ton of guys for the Flyers since the lockout have had a 50 assist season. and he had a down goalcoring year in which he set a new career high for points. So I guess it’s got to be TK even like that’s where we’re running into did they have enough size? They have too many guys. I just so badly don’t want to put Tippet on the power play. Uh that’s really I really he didn’t score a single power play goal last year first of all and I just don’t think he’s earned it. I think he has to earn his way, especially to the top unit for game one. He has to earn his way onto that spot and he hasn’t done it yet. I would like to see if he could get Forester out there, but I just don’t know who you take off because you need the center and Coots again. TK, he’s been their best offensive player. Mishkov has to be out there. If you don’t have Zegris out there, what the hell is even the point of Zegris? And then you need one defenseman, right? I I assume you want Dale out there. So, I don’t know if I can find a spot for Forester right now. So, I’m going Mishkov, Ziggress, Dale, Coots, TK. That is my uh that’s my game one, power play one. And now, let’s take another break for some commercials. All right, I got to tell you about our friends at Monarch Money. Listen, I I’ve told you plenty of times I am not the most financially responsible. And it’s not fair that I put so much of that burden on my wife of, you know, keeping the house in order financially, knowing all of the accounts, knowing what’s going on, and each and every one of them, having control over all of the accounts, making sure the bills are paid, knowing what the budget is. And that’s why I decided to start taking advantage of monarch money. Uh, I learned so much from Monarch Money just about where my money is going, how best to, you know, okay, we’re going to have a certain amount going here, a certain amount going there. Um, and it’s built for people with busy lives. Uh, if you put off organizing your finances, Monarch is for you. They do the heavy lifting. They uh link all your accounts in minutes and they get clear data. you get clear data visuals and smart categorization of your spending and real control over your money. That’s I didn’t know how to like put a budget together, do any of that stuff. And uh Monarch really really came in handy for me um just so I could have a better understanding and kind of take some of that burden off of uh off of my poor wife Ava because she does have her hands full with me most of the time. Uh but it’s not just another finance app. It’s a tool. It’s a tool real professionals and experts actually love. It’s been named the best budgeting app of 2025 by the Wall Street Journal. Uh it’s just it’s the best, man. Take it from me, a person who has no idea what was going on with their money before Monarch. Uh so don’t let financial opportunity slip through the cracks. Use code phy monarchmoney.com in your browser for half off your first year. That’s 50% off your first year at monarchmoney.com with code phy. While we’re here, let’s talk about Bet 365. All right, what was that? That was the power play question. So, now let’s go to uh ah it’s Paul with the great ideas. Paul always has great ideas. Um he asks, “Which season was more exciting going into it, this year or last? Last year had little hope for team, but Mishkov alone made it exciting. This year, I feel the excitement is more about the unit as a whole and what a glimpse into the next great team could look like. Yeah. Last year was the excitement of the unknown. Like we have this new cool thing. We don’t really know what it’s going to be, but we think it’s awesome and then it is awesome. And it was fun in that regard. But even with Mishkov, um you know that middle part of the season where he just wasn’t scoring, um that got really arduous. But I think the excitement going in there was just so much like I said the uh that rookie game last year up in Allentown where you got um Mishkov and Luchenko and then Luchenko makes the team out of camp so we have two rookies to start the year. Like that was really fun. the excitement this year. Yeah, it is more about like, okay, I think we have a more answers to who’s going to be here. Now, obviously, they’re still searching for that 1C. Hey, maybe it can be Trevor Zus, but you know, maybe it’s someone they drafted. Porter Martone isn’t here yet, but there’s kind of that’s sort of unknown. But we saw Tyson Forester beat his goal total from last year. We think he’s going to be a part of it. We saw Cam York at the long-term extension. Like we saw Mishkave have an excellent rookie year and we’re just thinking the sky’s is the limit for this kid. I think now it’s it’s more okay. We’re going to see what this team really has. How close to ready are they? Like Danny and Jonesy have told us time and time again, the players will let us know when the rebuild is over. And I think we’re going to get our first look at how close we are to that this year. And that’s exciting. Like, is it going to be ah yeah, you know, we had higher expectations, but the goalies stunk again, so yeah, Mishkav and Zris, they put up a ton of points, but we’re picking in the top 10 again. Or are the goalies going to be just good enough that all these pieces we think are coming along, they’re a little closer to a done product than we thought, and they’re fighting for a playoff spot in the second half of the season. Like, it’s more about the team than an individual, like Paul said. But which one was more exciting going into it? The Mishkov Mania was really, really fun. But I got to say, because I saw him last year live up to expectations, I’m more excited this year because now it’s him and a bunch of other stuff. It’s okay. The excitement of is he gonna put up, you know, 80 90 points this year and what’s Trevor Zaggers? I think there’s more because we just have more answers to some questions. Like there’s no more, oh, I wonder where Joel Faraby’s gonna be. What how much time we’re gonna spend on Morgan Frost? Like so many questions have been answered that I think we’re finally going to be like, “Okay, how close are they? What do they actually need?” That’s what we’re going to find out this year. I think that might be a little more exciting than just, “Ooh, new toy. It’s okay. We This toy is awesome. What about all this other stuff, too? How does it all fit together? We’re going to find that out this year. So, I’d say I’m a little more excited for this year, Bren, because of the donate thing, there’s no super chats, right? No, there is. There are still super chats. Okay, awesome. Um, great. I’m just curious. I remember last time we did the donate thing, we were told there were no super chats and then like one person was able to do it. So, I’m just I was just curious uh what the super chat situation was. Um, all right. But that’s Paul’s question from Adrian. Adrien, do you think the tanking argument kind of loses credence given Mishkav and Marton fell to them? The only rear real year they could have tanked for a clear 1C would have been 2024s for Celibbrini. And banking on tanking for one year seems like uh seems like some low odds gambling. Yeah, that’s the I know because I lived it with the Sixers and working in Sports Talk Radio at the time like there’s yes, there is credence to the multi-year tank. And as a younger fan, I was down with that. But I’m going to be honest, I can’t I really don’t want to deal with another terrible year. This is it’s hard to say cuz like you have to face your own mortality, but these are real years. Like these are years that are happening that you’re just throwing away. And I know like you’re not throwing away the whole year when your hockey team is bad or whatever, but like we all love the Flyers, right? I don’t want to watch the Flyers lose on purpose for multiple years. And the only way to really do it, the only way to really go for it is to do it multiple years in a row. Uh because you see some years, okay, there’s no real clear-cut one or the rankings are just wrong. You know, you have a draft like 2017, like, yeah, he sure is good. He’s really good. Patrick bad. The next three guys stars. Like it’s low odds gambling is the best way to put it. As Adrian said, like I just don’t I just don’t want to watch it. I And maybe that Oh, well, you know, you’re going to live in mediocrity forever. There’s other ways to do it than being bad for a freaking decade. And I don’t want that. I don’t want to watch a bad team year in and year out. And they did get lucky with the Mishkov pick. That is kind of like picking in the top two when the guy clearly uh is that sort of talent. And Porter Martone, all accounts are if he played center, he could have gone second in this draft, third in this draft. And it was just this was a draft that was all about size and centers. Uh and so he falls to them at six. You know, I I do think there is something to Adrian saying like it loses credence. But really, it’s more I don’t want to watch it because the only way to do it right is to do it four, five, six, 10 years in a row, hoping you get a couple of those franchise players along the way because we all know it can go the other way. Example, in this city, in that same building, the now Exfinity Mobile Arena, how’d it work out? How many of those guys are still on the Sixers? The answer, one. One. They’re at the top of the draft. How many years in a row? Top three picks. None of them worked out except one guy. I don’t want to live through that. Maybe it’s cuz I’m getting older and I’m like, how old am I going to be when they actually win? Am I going to be able to party my ass off the way I want to at 65 years old when they finally win a Stanley Cup? You know, I the fact that they have gotten lucky, I think, in the draft with um the way Mishkov fell to them and the Martone situation, I do think it’s like, well, maybe they don’t have to tank. Yes, they need more talent. They need more really good players, but there are other ways to go about it. And they did get some pretty damn good players, uh despite not picking in the top two or three. All right. Uh let’s go to Crud Muddler. one of my favorite names every time we do a mailbag. Um, what is the minimum stat line you would consider a success for Martone in his first collegiate season? That’s a good question because I, you know, we talked about James Hagens leading up to the draft and it’s like, oh, he’s the presumed number one pick and then he has a point per game season, which is fine. He’s clearly good, but he didn’t have that crazy season where he’s just, “Oh yeah, man. This guy running away with the Hobie Baker, one of the best players in college.” Like, he wasn’t quite that. And he falls and it’s a little bit of a disappointment. Now, Marton’s in a little bit of a different situation because he’s a year older. Um, this is his draft plus one season. Hagens was a like true 18-year-old fresh uh freshman where Martone is like closer to 19 in his uh in his draft year. So, he’s a little older and he’s a little bigger, but it’s just so hard to tell with college. That said, because of his size and his age, I am expecting I am hoping for a point per game season. Um, freshman years can be weird. We see it like maybe you just don’t click with the coach, maybe you’re just having trouble adjusting, you’re away from home for the first time or whatever. Um, but it’s, you know, he did play major junior. Um, but it’s it’s a different game. It it’s just it seems as if it’s a different game, it’s a different lifestyle. It’s a different schedule. All those things. But I am expecting Martone as you know a guy we are if not hoping to be a superstar alongside Mishkov at least a supporting star. Um I would like to see him be at least a point a game player. I think that’s you know if it’s like 40 and 42 games whatever you know.9 points per game that fine. I’m not going to nitpick over, you know, he didn’t get two more secondary assists, therefore he’s a bust, but I would like to see him be right around that point per game just to kind of put us all Oh, okay. We did get another one. We did get another guy who’s going to be, you know, a really good top six forward for this team. All right, I think we have a Yeah, Jay-Hawk. Another question about Porter Martone. Uh, do you see the Flyers signing after his college season or waiting until next year? And what’s your prediction on Martone for this season? I just, you know, I’m hoping for around a point a game, but do I see them signing after his college season, which would effectively, okay, you get into a few games at the end, you burn a year on the ELC, or do you wait until next year, whatever he wants. Um, and now part of it is how did he look in the NCAA? Like if he Oh, yeah, man. He needs he needs a few more years of development. he isn’t close to the NHL ready. Oh, okay. Take a step back and reassess. But if he looks like he can handle himself, which by all accounts he probably already could at least handle himself physically in the NHL, it’s whatever he wants. If he wants to do another year of college, say, “All right, man. Go have fun. We’ll see you in another year.” If he wants to come out, uh, play a few games at the end, burn an ELC year, guess what? You let him do it. I know you can’t operate out of fear because you got burned by cutter goier, but I hope that was a real learning experience for Danny Brier in this front office to kind of be like these kids have more power than ever and if they have their mind set on something, we kind of have to cater to that. Even if yeah, we think this is like going to lead to a 75% outcome and not 100%. We’re not crazy about the idea, but if it’s what you want, we are going to make it happen for you. Do you do that for everyone? Do you do it for third round picks? No. But the guy you just got sixth overall who you’re kind of counting on being a franchise player for you, that’s why you passed on some of the centers like James Hagens. Um, you do what they want. So, do I see the Flyers signing after his college season? Yeah, if he wants to. Uh if he wants to come out, if you if he thinks he’s ready to go to the NHL, yeah, you do it. All right. Um couple from you know, let’s let’s skip to Mike Caster, Bin. I want to because we only have a few minutes left. Do we have any super chats? Okay. All right. Uh Mike Caster, if the Flyers don’t finish near a playoff spot, will massive will massive roster changes be made? I don’t see this roster as a playoff team. Massive. There’s only so many massive changes you can make. Um, but I think it’s more going to be about individual performances uh that will lead to big changes. Like I don’t see Sanheim or Connectne or Couttoriier going anywhere. And there is a huge chunk of your roster right there. Mishkov’s not going anywhere. Um, I I think it’s more about like, hey, Owen Tippet, Bobby Brink, Jamie Dale, like those guys personally taking steps forward. The players we’ve talked about over the last couple weeks, uh, whether it was, I think it was Charlie and Kelly did the Makeorb Breakak show and me and Charlie did one specifically on Dale bonus content on YouTube. Check it out if you haven’t already. Um, I think the big changes could come in those situations where it’s like, yeah, we think a lot of these pieces are good set for the future, but if we’re not seeing steps taken, we’re going to have to move on from Tippet or Dale or Brink or whoever and make room for some of these players we drafted who listen, if Porter Martone is joining this team, He’s a winger. We have a ton of wingers. There’s so many of them. Someone is going to have to go or be bumped down the lineup or whatever. I think that could kind of facilitate the change more than oh if they’re not close to a playoff spot because what if Yeah, man. They’re power play is 18 19 20%. It’s it’s improved. Mishkov takes a step. Sanheim connect are what they’re supposed to be. Everything’s kind of hunky dory with the skaters, but the goalending is just flatout terrible and therefore they’re picking in the top 10 again, not near a playoff spot. I don’t think that would lead to massive changes. I just think that would be like, “All right, so we’re searching for a goalie. We’re searching at least for a short-term solution in net until Zraan and Bjnison are ready to be here and perhaps take over, be the franchise net minder.” But I think it’s more about individual performances than it is like where the team is in the standings because that could be that could be caused by any number of things. All right. Uh let’s bang out a couple more from Nick Henkins. Why does local media seem so much more positive about the direction of the team verse the national media? I do think there’s a part of we are close to this thing and we just want it to be so because it’s just more fun doing this job covering a good team. I want to cover playoff hockey. It’s cool. I’ve only gotten to do it so many freaking times. This is Charlie and I’s 10th season together and we’ve done playoff games what? Yeah. So six uh 1516 was our first or 1617 was our first year. So there was no playoffs that year, right? Yeah. No playoffs that year. They got null and Patrick and then playoffs in 18, none in 19, playoffs in 20, and that’s it. We’ve done playoffs like four times as a show together. We’ve been doing this for like 10 years. I want to see playoff hockey. And I think maybe there is a little bit of wish fulfillment in terms of the local media. Uh, at least from my perspective. I won’t speak for anybody else. Um, just in terms of my optimism, like I think it might take a little while. I’m not sure if they’re building a team that can win a championship right now, but I think they’re on the right track. Um, the na but also like you just nobody knows who Alex Bump is, right? You know, like you just don’t the national media there’s so much it’s hard for anyone to really do that sort of deep dive. Uh, and speaking of deep dive somehow we’re headed to overtime on a solo show, um, go to allphy.com to keep watching if you’re part of the TV audience. Uh, yeah, that I think national media like, “All right, man. Yeah, we think you screwed up taking Luchenko over Zoo.” It’s like, well, no one knows that for sure. Um, maybe they’re down on Trevor Ziggress. Maybe they’re just looking at it and going, “This team can’t possibly be good because Sam Erison and Dan Vidor will not win them a ton of games.” Whereas, if you’ve watched Aerson, it’s like, yeah, he’s probably not a franchise like number one guy, but there is something there if they can figure out the right role for him. And maybe like there’s just a lot of may that I’m choosing to look at optimistically right now. And to an outsider, it’s like, yeah, their goalies stink. Like, who’s their best player is a 20-year-old who doesn’t speak any English. Like, they don’t seem to so much of what they’ve done hasn’t arrived here yet. You know, the Porto Martone, it’s going to be at least this spring before we see him. Jet Lucenko, who the hell knows like so much is hypothetical that a national media member who’s covering 32 teams doesn’t have that sort of time. So, I do think it’s a little bit of Yeah, I’m a Homer. Absolutely. And also, I think being close to it allows me to see a little bit deeper into where they are as a franchise. Um, there any more good ones here? I got one from Hassan Goodman. Thoughts on Carson Dorwart? I literally have none. Um, he seems like a guy. Uh, no, that’ll uh that’s Let’s save some of these for like a bonus show or something uh the rest of this week. That is all the time we have for you I have for you, I guess. Well, Brenn is here too.
