Lauri Markkanen is BACK!

Lowry Markin dominates again for Finland and Euro basket. Let’s talk about it’s the hoopser show. [Music] Okay, guys. If you’re new here, make sure you like the video and subscribe to the channel most importantly, and watch to the end. It helps me out a lot, maybe the most. All right, guys. So, Lowry Markin had another incredible performance tonight for or earlier today actually for Finland. He was incredible. I have to say one of the most frustrating things about Euro Basket is the fact that it’s so hard to watch. I mean, you have to get a specific, it’s called like courtside 8091 90210, whatever it’s called to watch it. And I personally am not going to pay to get that to watch like three games. And so I didn’t watch the game. All I’m seeing is highlights and numbers just to be honest upfront. But Markin was incredible. I mean, if you go and just search, you can see it. The highlights are fantastic. He ends the game in 23 minutes with 43 points. Now, he’s playing against Great Britain, so a little bit of a grain of salt there. It’s not a particularly highlevel competition, but man, does he look good. He is doing things that he wasn’t really doing in during his games with the Utah Jazz. For example, well, let’s just talk about historically how good this was for Markin. This was he actually broke his actual third place spot. So he now holds the third and fourth spot for most points in a Euro basket game since 2001. Tonight he got third place with 43 points. That’s behind Dirk Nitzky uh with 43. In fact, he should be g given the second place spot because Nitzky took 39 minutes to score 43 points. Markinan did what he did tonight, beating his own score. He got 43 points in 23 minutes. So, this is actually the second place spot. Should be uh above Nitzki. Great name there, by the way. And who’s the number one? Luca Donuch, who scored 47. If Markin had been allowed to play more, he would have beat it. He played just 23 23 minutes. Why didn’t Finland let him break the record? crazy. But anyways, so they’re actually going to play tomorrow. So maybe they were resting him because they’ve got to play Montenegro tomorrow and my guess is he’s going to play extremely well. Then they have some tougher uh opponents. I think they play Lithuania coming up. So should be really interesting. What does this mean for Lowry Markin? Well, one, you know, it is imp it’s an empirical fact that Markin did not play very well last year. Now, you could talk about conspiracy theories like was he playing badly on purpose? Was he missing shots on purpose? You know, maybe, could be. I don’t personally think so, but maybe. Uh, was he just injured? Maybe. If he’s scoring these points and he was playing through injury, I tend to believe that a little bit for certain stints. I know that Lowry Markin, you know, any sort of light injury, the Jazz would rest him. But there were times watching him and you know all of you hoops nerds out there watching the jazz and watching Markin and a lot of you guys were watching with me live he looked a little stiff like his back he was not moving very fluid he’s looking much more fluid in this tournament so per it might be that he was just injured and honestly guys sometimes with the with when players go through slumps during the season it almost always has some sort I mean not always. But there is usually it usually is a sign that someone’s going through some sort of injury. Maybe like some sort of sore ankle, maybe they are recovering, maybe they’ve got some hamstring stuff that just does, you know, they can have all sorts of nagging injuries and that very well could have been what was happening last year. Like maybe him resting wasn’t quite as much tanking as we thought. So that’s one other explanation. The other was he just played poorly. you know, the injury thing or the playing poorly thing. If he’s doing this now in Eurob Basket, it’s a great sign that those aren’t an issue anymore. You know, the other teams, if they’re trying to trade for Markin, they’re having a lot of those questions answered by Euro Basket. And if Utah is just excited to have him play at a high level and feel like they have invested in a very good player, then Utah has to feel very good as well. You do not want to give $46 million to a player whose biggest skill is shoot three-pointers and they shoot at 34%. Not great, right? If you give, you know, someone like Klay Thompson who’s known for his shooting in his prime and you give him a big time max contract and he comes out and shoots 34%. I can promise you a lot of Warriors fans would have been frustrated because Markin’s on the Jazz, which gets a little less national attention. They get the hoops nerd attention, but no, not a lot of national attention. The media here is a lot more forgiving because they are all trying to be kind of in with the Jazz organization. It’s not going to make a lot of headlines, but you know, on here we talk about things and we’re honest and it was bad. So, this is nothing but a good sign. whatever you want the Jazz to do this off seasonason, whether it’s just, you know, load up and build around Larry Markin and build this team next year through him. If you are someone that wants to just go fully young and build through a youth movement and trade Markin for the best possible picks you can, also good. There are no downsides to this. The only downside to this, I guess, is if the Jazz don’t find a trade partner or they do build around Lowry Markin, but they want to keep their top eight pick. if he’s playing this well, it’s hard to lose games. And we do know like based off of what Austin H says when he said when he came on, they are going to play to win. They want to build that play to- win culture, which I personally agree with. I just think you need to play to win with the right players playing. So, we’ll see what happens. Uh anyways, nice game for Lowry Markin, who is looking just extremely good. you can’t help but feel good for him because last season had to be frustrating for a lot of reasons. So, it’ll be fun to watch. Guys, I am so excited for this upcoming NBA season. I mean, Lowry Markinham, we know what he brings to the table and if he does what he’s doing in Euro Basket with the Jazz, Utah gets pretty interesting. I am just beyond excited to watch Ace Bailey. I cannot wait to see what he looks like, how many minutes he gets, does he start? You can just count on us talking about it here. every day, every game. I can’t wait. Guys, like and subscribe to the channel. I will talk to you next time. Probably tomorrow.

  1. Markkanen is special talent and trading him for potential talent doesn't sound as a very smart move. His 3 point numbers in general are greatly affected if he needs to ”rest” after a great game. He tends to shoot great several games in a row. When he is in good flow cutting the flow keeps him just on a decent level, which i suppose was the jazz strategy last year.

  2. Hoops Nerd, you are obviously a proponent of trading away Laurie Markkenan in favor of losing games for a better pick. In this scenario, they would be getting a washed up vet or an overpaid bust along with some draft picks several years out. Receiving an equally talented player back would help them win games, and defeat the purpose. What happens if they are the worst team again and fall again to 5th? Is there that stud difference maker available at 5? And you given awayca stud in Markkenan? How would the Jazz rebuild then? How long are fans going to endure losing games at such a high level? The plan that you strongly advocate for is DEPENDENT on winning the lottery. Will you please have the intellectual integrity and courage to explain the risks and what you'd have the Jazz do in this situation as drafting 5th is statistically the single most likely outcome for a team with the worst record.

  3. Personally as a Finn, while I would like to see Markkanen play meaningfull basketball for the Jazz. Even if its on the long run. I would just not want this one star for us being wasted like this.

This being said for example Dirk did only play for Mavs.

  4. Furthermore, consider the incentive for future star players who see that Utah can give you the bag if you say and do the right thing aka enjoy life in Utah and promote the state..

  5. I wrote last year abour it takes time after doing military service to get back to normal. Marching in icy woods, roads living in the forrest etc. You should watch Miikka Muurinen from the Finnish team, he could be the next Markkanen.

  6. Probably no one will see my comment but I try to bring up points that almost no one talks in US Media, it's only common fact in Finnish media or Markkanen insiders. This is why Lauri is dominant now in Eurobasket and had a disappointing last season:

    1) He was in Finnish military 04/2023-09/2023. While this was the year earlier, he lost so much weight and couldn't get the proper sleep & recovery so the season 2023-2024 was on extra batteries. Finnish military is veru though. Lots and lots of missed sleep and cardio and not enough food. He then had to train hard for the whole 2024 summer to gain back all the muscle and stamina so he's body was overstimulated and he had minor injuries all season 2024-2025. Now he has had full recovery for the whole spring and had good balanced training sessions during the summer before the eurobasket.

    2) Markkanen family had their 3rd child born in november 2024. I'm not sure how American athletes handle their family situation but based on multiple sources Markkanen is like most average Finnish men who participate in Family activities all the time, yes even night time feeding etc. Not probably all the time, but it most definately had some affect on his sleeping and recovery as well. Markkanen for a NBA superstar is very modest and down-to-earth just like Finns usually are.

    3) Markkanen is total superstar in Finnish team. Here he wants the ball and gets it. Not every play is for him but he's the #1 pick for attacks usually. The guards of the Finnish team (Maxhouni, Little, Seppälä, Salin) are pass-first guys compared to any NBA guards. Only time Markkanen has been used in NBA like in Finnish team was the historic MIP season 2022-2023 and that was mostly because the experienced Mike Conley really found the guy. Since then the guard situation in Jazz has gone worse and worse and they have mainly ball dominant young guards who can't find Lauri or are more willing to score themselves.
