Pewter Pulse: BUCS OLB HAASON REDDICK Could Have A Big Game vs. Falcons

Hello pewer people. Scott Reynolds here with another Peter Pulse. The start of Tampa Bay’s 2025 season is upon us and fans are really excited to see the new and hopefully improved version of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And out of all the players that the fans are anxious to see, outside linebacker Hassan Reic might be at the top of the list. Will Reic return to his days as a double-digit sacker in his first season in Tampa Bay? And could Reic be in for a big debut in Atlanta in week one? That’s the subject of today’s Peter Pulse video, and I’ll get into that in just a second. First, a reminder, hit the thumbs up button on this video, give it a like. Also, leave a comment. Love reading your comments. Doing those two things helps us with the YouTube algorithm. Gets our videos out in front of more awesome Bucks fans like you. Make sure you go to peterreport.com, our website, for all the Bucks coverage that you’re going to want this season. and also visit Peter Report TV, our YouTube channel, for our Peter Report podcast and more of my Pewer Pulse videos. Okay, so can Assan Reic be the double-digit sacker that the Bucks haven’t had since Shaq Barrett back in 2021? And can he have a grand opening in Atlanta on Sunday in the season opener? Let’s sack this topic together, shall we? One of the areas the Bucks needed to improve this off season was the outside linebacker position, which only recorded a combined 12 and a half sacks last year as a unit, led by Yaya Diyabi’s four and a half sacks. So, Tampa Bay signed Hassan Reic, a two-time Pro Bowler who had four straight double-digit sack seasons from 2020 to 2023 with three different teams before a disastrous 2024 campaign when he was traded to New York, engaged in a failed holdout, and wound up with just one sack and 10 games for the Jets, which was a dumpster fire of a team last year. Reic is just two years removed from an 11 sack season in which he had 13 tackles for loss in Philadelphia. The Bucks would love a season like that from Reic this year, who’s coming off a d a great training camp and meshed really well with the team. He even wants to be a leader for that room and has shown signs of doing just that. Reic turns 31 on September 22nd and is highly motivated to have a big season so he can cash in on one last big multi-year deal either in Tampa Bay or elsewhere next year. That big season could and should start on Sunday in Atlanta. The Falcons were dealt a big blow at the end of training camp when starting right tackle Caleb McGary suffered a serious knee injury in practice and was lost for the year. He’s on injured reserve with Bucks going after Falcons quarterback Michael Penn who’s left-handed. McGary was Pennix’s blindside protector. Compounding matters in Atlanta is the fact that swing tackle Storm Norton is supposed to miss at least the first six weeks of the season after ankle surgery this off season. So instead of McGary or Norton available to block Reic who typically rushes off the left side of the line against right tackles. Now the Falcons will have to start veteran backup Elijah Wilkinson who is the team’s third string offensive tackle. The 6’4, 310lb Wilkinson has played in 79 games in his NFL career with 45 starts at both guard and tackle in his eight seasons in the league. He’s given up 22 sacks, 11 hits, and 85 hurries over his career, according to Pro Football Focus. And outside of the two preseason games he played in Atlanta this past August, Wilkinson has only played in one snap in the regular season since the 2023 campaign when he was with the Arizona Cardinals. That means Reic could have a big game on Sunday. In fact, he should have a big game, right? If you thought Chris Brazwell not doing much against third string tackles in the preseason was worrisome, imagine how concerned you’ll be if Wilkinson holds his own against Reic and shuts him out in week one. Now, unless of course Reic’s pressures create a bunch of sacks for the likes of Yaya Diyabi, Kalasha Cany, and VA up front, then we’re not too concerned about it because he played his role in helping the Bucks defensive front get after Michael Pennix on Sunday. Now, maybe Reic doesn’t get four sacks against Wilkinson the way that, you know, Aiden Hutchinson did last year against Bucks reserve right tackle Justin School, who filled in for Luke Geti in Detroit back in week two last year. But it would be nice, right, just to see Hassan Reic do his thing and really start his Bucks career with the bang. Even just a sack or two would be a great start for Hassan Reic and Red and Peter. Now, if I’m Atlanta offensive coordinator Zack Robinson, I’m not trying to put Michael Penn Jr. in harm’s way. too often on Sunday in the season opener. Not against Assan Reic, a proven pass rusher, and not against Todd BS, a very creative defensive mastermind who can dial up all sorts of exotic blitzes and looks in just four starts for Michael Penn. I’m having Penn throw quick slants to Drake London in the slot. Some screens on the perimeter to wide receivers Ray Ray Mloud and Darnell Mooney if Mooney plays. and running backs Tyler Algier and Bejian Robinson getting them involved in the pass game quickly with some swing passes and screens. I’m getting the ball out of Penn’s hands so quickly to help Wilkinson and negate Hassan Reik’s speed. I’m also trying to establish the run too to create a balanced attack on offense against Tampa Bay’s defense. And I’m running right at the 6’1 240lb Reic to try to wear him down early in the game. Winning on first and second down and stopping the run will be key for Bulls and the Bucks defense in Atlanta. If Tampa Bay can create multiple third and long situations on Sunday, then it’s going to be advantage Hassan Reic. And that could mean a fast start for the Bucks fast new edge rusher. 1. I won't judge Reddick's performance on sacks if he doesn't get any but his presence must be felt, early and often while his teammates feed off of it. If he donuts the stat sheet and the remaining linemen numbers are mediocre at best that means Penix did the same to the defense as Cousins, and THAT would be highly concerning even if it is week 1.

  2. I went back and watched Reddick and Diaby in their very limited preseason snaps, and they were both getting handled and didn't apply much pressure, especially on the long pass when Pittsburgh drove the field and scored. I won't put too much on that, though. But I still don't see the Bucs winning three of the first four games with the players they have available.

  3. Coach Bowles sounds like Morrison will not play. I wonder if he is going to miss significant time in the first half of the season? And does that mean we could see a lot of Jacob Parrish?

  4. This was an EXCELLENT video. Didn’t know about the O-line of ATL being down. Also great job producing! A perfect amount of pictures and the host peppered in. The best photo was Reddick bringing down Allen. #goBucs

  5. Hey,Scott great footage!! Could the Buccaneers bring in Peeples from the Patriots they just cut him, I believe that he could bring more depth in the safety room. What's your thoughts about this awesome safety ???

  6. Has done absolutely nothing as a Buc and absolutely nothing this season. I have no reason to think his very first game will be anything special. I hope I am wrong.

  7. Serious question – what's the difference (or overlap?) between an OLB and ILB in our scheme? it seems like Bowles drops the OLBs into coverage a lot and plays the ILBs up on the line or blitzing. Is it just physical measurements?

  8. Great video! Very excited for this season. Wouldn't have been able to make it through the long offseason without Pewter Reports amazing coverage! Excited for more 🙂

  9. Many Bucs fans are hoping that Haason Reddick has the same impact as Simeon Rice or JPP had for this team in it's history. Those two players were perfect for the Bucs defense at there place in time.
