NHL Highlights | Mammoth vs. Avalanche | October 09, 2025

I’m even a little nervous. Absolutely,
Johnny. The ABS already won and always were underway here. That puck pushed
to 10. He’ll find Mar. Impressive 4 to1 win two nights ago in Los Angeles in the
opener to the season for both the absol. Well, that’s not an easy win in LA. Always a
tough place to play, especially in the opener of the season. Here comes McCar. He’ll put that
puck down the wing. gave a little chase as Linen’s off the bench for his first shift in front of the
hometown crowd this year. They just had a little deflection off the stick of Lechin. What a start
to the season. 33 years old for Scott Weedley and second line is now on the ice as Dorsy brings
that puck ahead from his blue line. Great wide schmaltz puts it in front tipped and a nice little
kick save. Here comes Jury the third line. He’ll find Colton to get that one through the rookie
Sim couldn’t. Long shot Malinsky and there’s a glove save by Melker who catches with his right
hand. Sam Molinsky really, really smart shot off the far post. Off to Malinsky again. Walks
it straight ahead and shoots and there’s the save by Vanela. Fouryear deal well earned. It’s a
true heart and soul play. He led the absent block shots two nights ago in LA. Serv shot from the
way outside and a good kick save there of good active sticks by the mammoth in the neutral zone.
In fact, they got Nick Bane gave it up. Shot saved by Wedgewood and another save by Wedgewood. Nick
Schmaltz. He’s only had four consecutive 20 plus goal seasons. There he is getting that quick wrist
shut off. Deceptive guy. Doesn’t look like much, but he’s got real silky mitts. A great release.
And another nice save by Wedgeway for the KHL championship last year with locomotive. Now made
a transition to the NHL. Here’s McKinnon bursting in one on four. He’ll shoot and that was deflected
and stopped right at the post for that chemistry with his line, but he’s been around. He knows
how to figure guys out in a hurry. That puck is knocked down deep. Coleman turns and fires a save
by Voka. P is down to the Utah zone. Sergeette through Cruss with a long shot. That can’t save
Boka. Another shot and that’s cut down before and got to Boka but very backhander. What a save
by Boka. And we have a stoppage in play. I mean you see the success that he has. I mean, all the
offense there was strictly created cuz Burns and Sammy Gerard both got the puck to the net. Long
shot by the block. I said, “Yeah, you’re the oldest guy.” He doesn’t look it, though. He still
plays like a young man. Here’s McBain wide. Great stop by Wedgewood as he came out of his face to
cut down the angle. Could not come up with it. It’s given away by Nas. And here’s Krauss again.
Draw pass on a wrist shot and it’s squeezed to the body by Wedgewood. Coley centering pass and
Peter not ready for it. A long shot by Schmid. A nice save there by Wedgewood. He saw the entire
way more with a 27goal performance last year and he’s a guy that Utah definitely wanted as Olson
got strong. sends it across center score and Ross Cotton buries it for the first home goal of the
season. The ABS have the one- nothing lead and that line pass the puck to perfection. Wow. 15
in off the ice. Sander Hart great play up the wall. Wrinkles. Watch his pass here. Up and over
with his stick save. Hand it over. And just like last season when he started with nine goals in his
first nine games, he’s got one for two this year. What a beauty. And Johnny, you saw that beaver
tail from Colton. He wanted that puck so bad. The beaver tail. You got Victor Goolson. McKinnon
stays with it. Now it’s poked to the point. Car up top. Now McKinnon ts one timer. Blocker save.
Pounds that one to the far corner. When Josh is ready to rumble, he’s easily one of the most
feared defenseman in the National Hockey League. Good stick there by Colton, but it’s covered by VM
presented by TB Bank. And what a great year it’s going to be. A lot of festivities. So Avalanche
fans, stay tuned. That long shot stopped by Va. Oh my goodness. He just robbed McKinnon. Point
blank forward with a long leg span. And I’m not sure how much muscle McKinnon was able to get
on that puck. That’s kind of what I thought from here. He was fighting with the stick of
the Utah player right there. Just couldn’t get the release enough for big 6’6 Stenland. Seemed
just holding him back. Sarah fires it near side. Schmaltz back up top. There’s a one-time save
by Wedgewood. Loose puck kicked into the corner. Pushed ahead for Agazino. Here comes Peter. Top
of the circle for the quick shot. Rebound. What a save by Wedgewood on the rebound. He reached out
with his catching glove and made the save of the night for two. Hoping for a better result. What
a save by Wedgewood. Was a clean breakout. One of the few that we’ve seen this period so far. Kimmy
Ron was pitched hardcore on the far side. Could not follow that puck. Burns tried to give it away.
Quick shot. There’s a save bya and it went off his glove over the top of the net. So Kimmy Ra first
shot on goal for the ABS in period number two. was able to get a pretty good slap shot on that
puck. Guys, it looks like the ABS have found themselves a little bit again. It took that one
big shift Riker. Watch out, Gunther. Break away. He’ll shoot. What a save by Scott Wedgewood.
Here’s the wideopen breakaway. Dylan Gunther just goes to try and beat him on the glove hand
side. And against LA, Wedgewood was outstanding in that game. stopped five or six point blank
shots just like but you don’t want to give up the lead here with too much to go in this second
period of play. One-time Gunther score. Wow, that took 3 seconds. It went off of Wedgewood
and in. Was it deflected on the way in? Because Wedgewood seemed to be confused. I’ve barely seen
it. Here’s the replay. Just snuck seven hole. got a clean look at it. I don’t know if
it knuckled on Wedgewood or just caught him right in that area that’s kind of goofy
under the armpit where he used his shoulder. Serge able to bump that one to give chase
to the Avalanche zone. K intelligently got close enough to the bench on that play was
able to get a stick. They were four men with sticks by the end of that penalty kill.
Here comes Baser McKinn with the D score. Nathan Men snaps it inside the far post. His
first goal of the season. It’s a power play goal and the ABS have taken a 2-1 lead. He
looked he pick and he’s in the other half. Serge actually scored check which allowed Kale
Mar to bring the puck up and they get a clean entry. All of a sudden there’s chaos in the zone
for the Utah Mammoth and Nathan McKinnon walking downhill. Kale Mar beautiful pass right on
McKinnon stick and when there’s chaos and they’re not set up he’s going to take advantage
and what a shot by Nathan backhead comes Gunther stop by Wedgewood trying to corral the cage will
help out his goalie had to bang it out of there in the air now the sling of the back hand flip
what a save by Wedgewood on cool hard around telegraph that one out Dylan Gunther’s got some
speed down Low save by Wedgewood. Number three, the outs with a 2-1 lead. Scott Wedgewood with
the guys on your line or the players that you’re working with. Watch out McBain. Save by
Wedgewood. It’s kick to the crease. Oh my goodness. McBain got behind everybody on that
one. But look at this. McBain reads the play, finds the open ice a little bit. What did we
say? Wedgewood standing tall outside his crease. tries to slide that five hole, but Wedgewood Curry
took a hit. Little shot there from Stenland. The mansion and his stick blows up. How unfortunate is
that? Cross back to the end zone. Down the slot, shoots. Saved by Oh my goodness. And that’s
just going to about do it. Three to go, two to go, one to go, and that’s
going to finish it off. Oh boy.

  1. Can't really comment on the game overall as in Australia I don't get to see full games unless I pay for something like Kayo, which I'm just not going to do and I settle for YT highlights satisfactorily, but on the comments Avs were lazy or nonchalant, whatever. Gunna put it down to early season 'rust' – the positives are there. Solid defense only conceding 2 goals so far, Landy is back for a full season after aeons out, and the scoring and goals look very "Avs-like". 2 from 2, I think Avs fans are going to take that. There's a lot more to like now, than this time last year! The team is just warming up.
