Want to thank you all so much for joining me here. a lot of you on your lunch hour since we couldn’t go live Sunday night. But we are here now talking about the Bucks big big win over the San Francisco 49ers moving them to 5-1 and first place not just in the NFC South but in the NFC. We’re going to start this one off as we always do with the biggest moment and this one comes in the second half courtesy of the man, the myth, the legend Baker Mayfield. On third and 14 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter, the Niners were looking for a gamechanging stop after cutting the Bucks lead to 20 to9. Baker Mayfield was wrapped up in the back field by not one but two 49ers defenders. Somehow he Houdinis himself out of a sack, takes off, breaks a tackle, then dives forward for a first down after gaining 15 yards. This is what Baker does. And this is why Raymond James Stadium was filled with MVP chance. He saved the game on that play because two plays after that, he finds Tez Johnson for a 45 yd touchdown to take the lead back up to eight points. From that moment on, the Bucks never felt like they were not in control, and they never seemed like they weren’t the better overall team. This is a team that did not have Zion McCullum or Benjamin Morrison on defense, but Kendall Vor stepped up and had a great game. Jamal Dean is still operating as if he’s a perennial allpro. More on him later. Jacob Parish made some huge plays, including a major pass breakup just a couple of plays after he left the field after being injured on what was called an offensive pass interference because of a blindside block by a 49ers receiver. The pass rush was absolutely outstanding. Antoine and Tyiki had great games. This team stepped up on defense while Baker Mayfield made sure that he kept that goon attitude and never said die. After that possession, the Bucks offense only got the ball three more times. Only one possession for them in the third quarter, but the Bucks would have a missed field goal, a made field goal from Chase Mclofflin to extend the lead to two scores. And then that final possession was just to kneel the ball out. But here’s what the Niners did with their ensuing three possessions after that Baker scramble and Tez Johnson touchdown. Eight plays for 19 yards and a punt. Eight plays for 28 yards and a Jamal Dean interception. Four plays, seven yardds, turnover on downs. The defense was absolutely nails in the second half. And there weren’t a lot of moments in the first half where they looked bad. Kendrick Bourne had some really impressive catches, some catch and runs, some big plays, but that Baker scramble on third and 14 in the third quarter was the turning point and what would go on to decide the game. Now, think about it. The Niners ate up over half of the third quarter clock and got a field goal. That was after they ended the first half with a sixplay 47 yardd drive that took under a minute. So in two possessions, not just 49er possessions, but in two game possessions, the Bucks lead from went from 20 to 13 to 20 to 19. The Niners were building momentum. The Bucks had lost a Mecha Ibuka and a stop there changes the trajectory of the game entirely. It’s a perfect example as to why Baker is getting all this MVP love and talk and I’ll get more into that in a little bit. But here was something interesting from Greg Almond. Mayfield and Jaylen Herz have each rushed for nine first downs this season on third down plays. Herz has 35 yards on his carries in those situations. Baker has 93. The Bucks have needed an average of 6.87 yards for a first down on those plays, while the Eagles have needed 2.44. Yet Baker is getting it done at a higher percentage than any other quarterback in the league. Baker is nine for 11 on third down runs, resulting in a first down. Herz is nine of 16. You have Jackson Dart, who’s eight of 11. And then let’s throw in a running back named Christian McCaffrey who is eight of 17. Baker is willing this team to victory in whatever way he can. And in this one, he was able to change the trajectory of the game with one of his most impressive runs of the year. Might be one of his most impressive runs as a Buccaneer, period. They won in the throwback. This ends another Buck streak, right? They won in the throwbacks twice. They won in prime time. And now they have beat the ners after losing four in a row in the Todd Bulls era against this Kyle Shanahan 49ers team. And just, you know, let’s put the cherry on top of the Sunday, right? It didn’t take a heart attack or a spike in blood pressure as they had this game in hand well before the twominute warning thanks in large part to a clutch Jamal Dean interception on fourth down when the Ners were knocking on field goal range. Going to jump into the chat for a little bit. We got King PR224 listening from Puerto Rico. Thank you so much for joining. really appreciate it. Awesome to hear. Uh let’s see. We did have way before the show even started, if I can find it really quick, um we had where was it? Demon Hunter. He said, “Everyone, Bucks fans and crew included, need to pray for Fred Warner and his family and hope this doesn’t end his career.” I heard the injury on the radio call from Gan Deckerhoff that happened while my wife and I were on our way to dinner before the show that we went to Sunday night. And I don’t know if Sirius cut in after the broadcast had restarted or what happened. All I knew is that Gan had said that there was an an injured 49er on the field and they went to commercial. They came back and it was already the next play. I never heard who the injury was, what it was, what had transpired. So, I saw the injury after we got home last night and my heart just sunk for him. I hope Fred Warner is okay. It looked a lot like the injury that Godwin suffered. It didn’t look quite as severe, but broken and dislocated ankle. So, yes, 100% with you, Demon Hunter. Prayers for Fred Warner that he makes a speedy and full recovery. He’s one of the best in the game. He deserves all of the credit that he gets and you hate to see a player of his caliber go down in the manner in which he did. So, I hope that he is okay. Uh, 49ers fans, Fred Warner, the 49ers, we are sending love from Bucks Nation and all of the crew. Um, let’s see. We got Jared team is stacked almost everywhere. We have a Super Bowl window for the next few years at least. feels like our season this year. If we can get healthy towards the end of the season, I agree 100%. And you know, I I said it a couple of weeks ago. I’ve said it numerous times since. Something about this team feels special. Good teams find ways to win in spite of all of the obstacles in front of them. This Buccaneers team has been ravaged by injury. I think the only team more injured than them is the San Francisco 49ers. But you were missing four key pieces on offense in terms of playmakers. You’re still missing Luke Geti. So that’s a fifth key piece on offense. You’re down Collia Cany for the year. You were down Zion McCullum and Benjamin Morrison in this game. You were looking to guys like Kendall Vor at cornerback to make plays and every single one of these guys keeps answering the call and finding a way to win. That is what makes this team so unbelievably special. All right, we are going to get into the biggest takeaways that is coming up next on today’s episode of Locked On Bucks, part of the Locked On podcast network. your team every day. You know the saying, look good, feel good. The problem is that most dress clothes only check one of those boxes. They look sharp, but they feel stiff, hot, highmaintenance. That’s why there’s Mizen and Maine. Mizen and Maine makes classic men’s wear with performance fabrics, so it’s effortless to look sharp and feel comfortable. They actually invented the performance fabric dress shirt over 10 years ago and they’ve perfected it ever since. I love that you can go from the office office to dinner or even out on the golf course and still feel comfortable all day. It’s the feel of athletic wear, but the look of professional men’s wear. My son loves it because he’s at the age where they have to dress, you know, in really nice clothes for their home games for hockey. And it’s effortless and seamless for him to go for that nice, really, really solid look and still stay comfortable when he is sweating like crazy. Right now, Mizen and Maine is offering our listeners 20% off your first purchase at misinandm.com with promo code locked on NFL 20. That’s mizen spelled m i zen and maine m a i n.com. This episode is brought to you by Mazda’s moving the game forward for those who believe it’s not just about playing the game, it’s about redefining it. There are moments that do more than put points on the board. They move crowds, move culture, and keep moving the game forward. Baker Mayfield is continuing his case for NFL MVP through six weeks. And after an alltimer against the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle where he had over 300 yards in just four incompletions, he followed that up with a game against the 49ers where he went 17 for 23 for 256 and two touchdowns, plus a clutch 15ard run on third and 14. and he did it without Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and losing Acha Ibuka during the game. It snaps a four-game losing streak to the 49ers and moved the Buccaneers into sole possession of first place in the entire NFC. And they’re currently one of two teams in the entire NFL, sitting at 5- one. All thanks to the play of Baker Mayfield, who continues to make unexpected things happen in spite of all the injury woes. When you follow what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning. And just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to a Mazda vehicle. Mazda, move and be moved. [Music] Thank you again for making Locked on Bucks your first listener review every single day. My biggest overall takeaway, we usually do the biggest takeaway on offense, the biggest takeaway on defense. I’m giving you one big overall takeaway from this game and it is that Baker Mayfield is the MVP of the NFL and it’s not particularly close. I just ran through some of the numbers of his clutch third down rushes this season, but let’s go through some more numbers real quick. A classic David Harrison numbers dump. We love those. Shout out to David. Top five in passing yards, top five in passing touchdowns, tied for the fewest interceptions thrown by a starting quarterback with one. Top 10 in passer rating ahead of Josh Allen, Dak Prescott, Jaylen Herds, and Patrick Mahomes. Top 10 in QBR, top 10 in yards per completion, top 10 in rushing yards by a quarterback. Then then we get into the clutch factor. Four game-winning drives in the final two minutes of a game. The Buccaneers are the first team in NFL history to win four games in their first five weeks of the season where they took the lead in the final minute of a game. He is completing 55% of his passes on third down. 67% of his passes on fourth down. 65% of his passes in the third and fourth quarters. Seven of his 12 touchdown passes this season have come in the second half of games. When the Buccaneers need seven or more yards to get a first down, Baker is completing 68.5% of his passes with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions. Shout out to True Media for breaking all of that down for me. So, I asked the question, who is playing better than Baker Mayfield right now? Josh Allen. Now, Baker has played one more game than Allen, you know, since the Bills play on Monday night, but Baker Mayfield has more yards, more touchdowns, and fewer interceptions. Jaylen Herz, not a chance. The Eagles are an absolute dumpster fire right now and they had no business beating the Bucks to begin with. They might have one of the ugliest and most dysfunctional passing games in the entire NFL. How about Lamar Jackson? He’s been hurt, but even when he played, the Ravens are completely broken. The only other player that has a case right now that you could make in comparison to Baker Mayfield is Daniel Jones, who has the Colts at five at one, five- one and has also been getting the job done with his legs, but he certainly looks much better at quarterback now in Indianapolis than I think he ever did in New York. Then you take a step back and you remember while Daniel Jones could potentially have a case, he’s got Jonathan Taylor out there, the best running back in the NFL, he’s got Michael Pitman, he’s got Josh DS, he’s got rookie sensation Tyler Warren, who has been absolutely phenomenal at the tight end position. But Chris Godwin, he’s only played in two games. Mike Evans, he’s only played in two and a half games. Jaylen McMillan has been out all year. Bucky Irving has missed the last two games. Luke Geti has missed multiple games. The Bucks have had a revolving door at the right guard position. Tristan Worst missed multiple games to start the season. Baker lost rookie of the year Amecha Ibuka after the first half against the 49ers, but he still got the job done with Tez Johnson, Cam Johnson, and Sterling Shepard as his pass catchers. Rashad has stepped up and been absolutely fantastic. I was more than impressed sitting down and watching the game Monday morning in what Rashad has done over the course of the last two games. Sean Tucker, I called him out a little bit last week. He had a great game on Sunday. He Baker is out there playing poker where he’s missing all four aces, a pair of kings, a pair of queens, and he’s still winning the pot every single hand. MVP is about the player that means the most to his team, that is the most valuable to his franchise. Nobody can tell me that there is another player in the NFL right now that is more valuable to their team than Baker is to the Bucks. And at this point, if he continues doing what he’s doing, even after all of these pieces come back, there is absolutely no excuse that I will accept that the NFL could potentially come up with to not give Baker Mayfield this award. If I had told you back in July that the Bucks would be missing all of these players, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Amecha Ibuka, Luke Geti, Bucky Irving, Tristan Worst to start the season, they would lose Cody Malc for the season. They would lose Kalija Cany for the season. That they would go back-to back games without one of their top two starting corners. And I told you that they were going to be five and one after six weeks. You tell me, James, you’ve lost your mind and you should you should lose your show because there’s no way that the Bucks can get that done. Baker Mayfield is making sure the Bucks get that done. That’s why he’s the MVP defensively. Uh, real quick, I I my biggest takeaway is that Jamal Dean is absolutely on fire against the NerS. He had a huge sack and a game-seeking interception in the fourth quarter. Some quick numbers on Dean. This season, he’s been targeted 19 times, allowed just eight receptions at 5.7 yards per target allowed. He has given up zero touchdowns while getting two interceptions. He’s allowed a passer rating of 20.8 when targeted. That’s worse than the passer rating quarterbacks get for throwing the ball into the dirt. He’s been an absolute dog this season. He is fifth in coverage grade uh according to PFF behind null Williams and James Pierre where those two have combined for fewer snaps than Dean this year. Then Isaiah Rogers and Benjamin St. Just. He is fifth among quarterbacks in on PFF in pass rush grade. He is second in tackling grade and he is sixth in overall defensive grade among all corners. We talked about Morrison replacing Dean and that he and that Jamal Dean took this restructured deal because he saw the writing on the wall that his time with Tampa is ending. Instead, he’s playing like an allp pro and the Bucks may find themselves spending huge money on him again in the off season to try to bring him back. We are six weeks in. He has played five games and he has tied a careerhigh in interceptions for a season. He has tied his careerhigh for interceptions returned for a touchdown in a season. He has a careerhigh in sacks. He’s tied a careerhigh in forced fumbles. He’s on pace for a career best in completion percentage allowed when targeted. He’s absolutely blowing away his career best passer rating allowed when targeted. He’s well on his way to allowing by far the fewest yards per completion of his career. He has been absolutely amazing and he is making himself a lot of money come the off season. Going to jump into the chat real quick. I saw something interesting. We got David Stackman in the chat. My dude David, he says, “Had coach Todd BS told reporters the running back Bucky Irving and Chris Godwin are quote not in play for next Monday night’s game against the Detroit Lions.” That is coming from Adam Sheffer. Uh, oh, Narav in the chat. Uh, lost David Walker, too. Another great point there. Uh, I will get more into the injuries and my projected, I’m not a medical expert, timetable for return for some of these players. Spoiler alert, it’s not going to be pretty. But the Bucks overcome, they find a way to get the job done and get wins. The Lions, they’re kind of beat up, too. We’ll get into that uh coming up throughout the week. Um, let’s see. What else do we have in the chat? Uh, Revelations Space 99 says, “Kyle Brandt said Baker’s the new Favre.” Hard to argue, you know, he he’s always been that Favre prototype with the gunslinger mentality. Has he plays with absolutely no fear. Makes plays with his legs, makes plays in the clutch. But knock on wood, the nice thing is is he’s not turning it over at a Brett Favre rate. And that is a huge part of why the Buccaneers are sitting at five and one. All right, we are handing out game balls. That is coming up next on today’s episode of Locked on Bucks. [Music] repping things up here on a live game reaction episode of Locked on Bucks. I see you guys starting to drop your game balls into the chat. Keep them going. We’ll get to as many of them as we can at the end of the show. But the golden game ball, of course. Who else? Baker MVP Field. Clutch third down run. only six incompletions on the game, over 250 yards with two touchdowns, no turnovers. This is the MVP. This is the guy that is helping keep the Bucks not just afloat, but keep them at the top of the league among the best teams while dealing with all of these injuries to vital players. Just imagine, just imagine for a minute what he’s going to be able to do when guys like Evans, Ibuka, Godwin, McMillan, and Bucky are all on the field together. This offense will be unstoppable. Game ball number two. And my top defensive player for this game, no question about this one either. It’s Jamal Dean. Don’t make a scene. It’s Jamal Dean. What an absolutely great game from him. Strip sack, interception, phenomenal in coverage yet again. For as much as Bucks fans wanted him gone, my son included, the amount of times that I had to talk him off a ledge last year because he wanted Jamal Dean not to be traded, but just outright cut. You know, for as much grief as Jamal Dean has gotten from Bucks fans on social media, he is one of the best corners in the league through six weeks. And he’s got a huge challenge coming up next week to really solidify himself as one of the best in the business in 2025. Aman Ross St. Brown is no slouch. He is one of the best receivers in the NFL. Jamal Dean is going to have to continue playing at this level to make sure that the Bucks have a chance for an upset on Monday night at Ford Field. Game ball number three, my other offensive game ball. It’s going to go to Cameron Johnson. And this one was tough. There were three other offensive players that I looked at that was deserving of this game ball. But Cam Johnson was a player that I criticized a lot throughout training camp and the preseason. I made it very clear that I was shocked that he made the 53man roster. And for that, Cam, if you are watching, I apologize profusely for the mistake that I made. He stepped up in such a big way in the absence of Chris Godwin and then the absence of Amecha Ibuka in the second half. four receptions on four targets for 64 yards and a touchdown. Absolutely fantastic as a receiver. Good in the return game. Hopefully, he can build off of this. He can build off of his production and the confidence that comes with it when the Bucks go to Detroit next week because he’s going to be a big part of what the Bucks are going to be able to do offensively in that game. Game ball number four, it’s the pass rush. Yeah, this is a little bit of a copout, but it’s my show and I can do it if I want to because I can’t pick just one guy. The defense was great all day long and the pass rush was especially impressive. Six sacks of M. Jones. And by the way, my bold prediction was three takeaways. And I got completely screwed out of that because the Levante David strip sack that was overturned was the exact same thing that the refs upheld when Bucky fumbled against the Eagles. So, I’m counting this as a win for me and my bowl prediction because that was 100% a fumble and a clear recovery by Levante David. The sack, the strip, the recovery, the trifecta for Levante David. I’m counting it even if the stat sheet says that I was wrong. But six sacks on the day, relentless pressure. Vea, my predictive player of the game, he was awesome. Rek and Diyabi were awesome. The rookie, Elijah Roberts was great. Here are the players that got credited with sacks. And why I can’t pick just one player. Jamal Dean, Levante David, Elijah Roberts all got one. Reick and Brewer, they shared a sack. They had a half of a sack each. And then Yaya Diyabi with two. Outstanding job by Todd BS dialing up the pressure at the right time. And then an outstanding job by these guys getting home and finishing the job. Something that they have struggled with a little bit throughout this season. David Harrison, I love you, buddy. He says that I am the Oprah of game balls out here. Love to see it. I love to see you in the live chat. This makes me so happy. And what stinks is I gave you a shout out at the beginning of the last segment and you weren’t here for it. Uh but great to see you uh in here. All right, let’s see what other game balls we’re giving out. We got OC Chris Ya with the game ball. Constant pressure on the QB all afternoon. Um let’s see. We got Fausto. I know Vya had the roughing the kicker, but they couldn’t block him yesterday. Can he get a game ball? Well, he got part of a game ball. And and without that roughing the punter call, Jamal Dean doesn’t get that interception. Yeah, just funny how things turned out. Ball don’t lie and Jamal Dean was clutch. Uh let’s see. We got uh Scotty Jay, my guy. These youngsters at wide receiver are impressing me. Finally learning the playbook. Game ball has to go to Baker 100%. Um, let’s see. We’ve got Oh, shoot. Paul, the OG Baker, punter Riley Dixon played exceptionally well. You know, the special teams as a whole played really well in this one. It was nice to see them play kind of a complete game. I know we had the 49yd miss from Chase Mclofflin. You know, that was unfortunate, but he got another opportunity. Put it right down the middle from 45 quickly was able to shake off that miss so that it doesn’t linger and come into next week. He was able to reboost the confidence. You love to see stuff like that. Um, let’s see. I need a couple more real quick. I’ll I’ll throw, you know, just because he’s here in the chat. I’ll throw David Harrison up again. Through six weeks, Baker is MVP. BS is coach of the year. Grisard is assistant coach of the year. And Light is executive of the year. Period. That’s why we love you, David. I wish you could make more of these live shows, but I know you have your own team to cover, but uh we all miss you here at Locked On Bucks. Um Narav, I’m giving game balls to Grizz and Bulls. They deserve them, too. This was this was such a huge win for the Buccaneers and doing it without these key players. I know it’s been a theme all season long. It’s been a theme going back to training camp, but you go back to last year or even the year before, you take a look at the Bucks record in one score games and then you look at what they’ve done this year, not only in one-score games, but without Chris Godwin and Mike Evans and Bucky Irving and, you know, Luke Geti and and the the laundry list that I’ve said four different times on this show alone. This team is special. There’s no other way to put it. They find ways to get it done. And when they’re fully healthy, I don’t know that there’s a team in the NFL that has a defense strong enough to legitimately stop them. We’re going to end on that note. I think it's times to move on from chase you can't miss 4 kicks a season its just too costly
The schedule gods could not be happier with the Bucs. I think they scheduled the Bucs to play every playoff team in the AFC and NFC during the regular season. I was looking at the othe r 3 PM game yesterday: Green Bay against Cinncy? Why can't we have a schedule like that?
Hated to see that happen to Fred Warner. Hes not just the best Linebacker in the game today, but hes a great guy as well. Wish him the best on his recovery. This years team is my absolute favorite, and that super bowl window is wide open! Lets hope we get healthy, and stay healthy for that deep playoff run! Go Bucs!
Any word on Jaylen
5-1 go Bucs I’m looking for 6-1
Don't forget we have been winning while down Evans. We couldn't do that last year.
I was at this game yesterday. I will tell you this. Bucs go the memo about visiting teams cause yeah Niners fans showed up but Ray J was rocking yesterday. Great experience and it was almost sold out. Playoff environment
When are we gonna talk about the non-calls from the refs in the 1st quarter when the Bucs are on offense. The 1st drive alone had 2 obvious penalties, the face-mask on White & the early contact on Sterling. It's been a trend all year. I get Baker has started slow all year, but the refs have been the biggest opponent in the 1st quarter all year, really on both sides of the ball. Lol and don't get me started on how "the shin" being down only ever hurts the Bucs, never helping 😅 😂
That last tackle to end the game reminded me of NFL BLITZ 2000
Browns stupidity leads to Tampa Bay's success.
One man's trash has indeed proved to be another man's treasure.
Bucs for an upset at Detroit?? WTF is that about, the Bucs are the better team. The Lions will be the underdog in this one. Mayfield is 2-1 against the Lions in the regular season.
Your right he's got more yards more touchdowns fewer interceptions and yet everybody and their mother who seems to be you know a self-proclaimed" expert at football"has Josh Allen ahead of Baker Mayfield go figure, when the day comes that the big Media markt hands over an MVP to somebody from this market I'll fall over dead in surprise!!!! For him to win it he's going to have to leave no room at all for speculation he's going to have to conk people over the head with how good he is, for him to actually win the MVP! so so hamstrung anybody in this market is going to be when it comes to the big media, something that has been pissing me off for years!!!! I mean ask ask lavonte David, lavonte David is one of the best run-stopping linebackers of all time how many times have you ever heard those words come out of anybody's mouth outside of this market? how many pro bowls was that man snubbed for?and watch when it comes time to vote him into the Hall of Fame watch how much of a massive pain in the ass just to get one of the greatest linebackers of all time into the Hall of Fame,it's been pissing me off for years and I can't imagine how bad it pisses the players off…..sorry for my rant it's just something that has been bugging me…..
In Licht we trust!
Playing this well with all of our injuries speaks to how great our front office is! We had our 5th, 6th, and 7th WRs playing. Imagine when we have Evans, Godwin, McMillan, and Egbuka all fully healthy😎
Tuck did good, more touches please! lol🍊
Dean is pricing himself out of Tampa, look at the money that CBs are getting. Dean is going for at least $25M AAV on the open market and I don’t see how Licht can fit that under the cap.
My bold prediction was “we would end the game in victory formation” 🤷♂️😂😂😂
Past 2 games 300+ passing yards on the defense. Yes the defense stepped up with takeovers, but we cannot allow 300+ passing yards on the regular. Lions will put up 300+ passing on us and we won’t get the turnovers like we did against the 49ers. Bucs lose in a close game against lions
GO BUC'S!!!🇺🇸👍
That’s got a nice ring to it. Baker MVP Mayfield!
Bowles deserves his flowers
I blame Even for Egbuka’s injury since he kept picking him as his player of the game.
More tough games upcoming. 5-1 with significant injuries pretty impressive. Baker living for big moments now and he isn’t flinching. Deep team, great coaching, go Bucs!
