We’ll have biggest takeaways, we’ll have biggest moments, we’ll have reaction, everything. Um, but we have to start off with the absolute worst news possible, and that is that Mike Evans streak and most of, if not all of his season are done. Todd BS confirmed after the game that Mike Evans suffered a broken clavicle and will miss likely most of the season. He had said something to the I don’t have the exact quote in front of me. Said something to the effect of, you know, he may be able to return late in the season potentially for a playoff push. We’re going to have to see how recovery goes. But that streak of 1,000 yards that he has had every single year of his career, the record of Jerry Bryce’s that or Jerry Rice’s that he was on the verge of breaking have come to an end. This was brutal. This was and and shout out to my guy Bailey Adams over at Pewer Report, longtime friend of mine. Love him to death. He tweeted out just a moment ago. Um, let’s see. He says, “October 21st, 2024, Bucks have a nightmare of a Monday Night Football game against the Ravens in week 7. October 20th, 2025, Bucks have a nightmare of a Monday Night Football game against the Lions in week seven.” And I I think that sums it up perfectly. And we highlighted, you know, that game with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin’s injuries. That injury to Chris Godwin ended his season back in 2024. This one you have Mike Evans make what appeared to be an absolutely incredible catch as he goes down, breaks his clavicle, knocks himself out with a concussion essentially. He laid there with his eyes closed, not moving for quite some time. Um, and then later in the game, you lose Hassan Reic to what looked like a high ankle sprain when Pines falls on his leg. So again, two more key members of the Buccaneers gone. But look, this loss of Mike Evans goes beyond the field. It’s it’s the locker room. It’s the leadership that he has. It’s the fact that he and Levante David for more than a decade now have been the heart and soul of this Buccaneers team. So, this is an absolutely gutting loss for every single player on that team, for every member of the coaching staff, for everybody in the front office. This was absolutely just destructive to what they were building this season. Now, there’s two ways that you can go about this if you’re the Buccaneers. You can sulk, you can hang your head, you can, you know, punch a wall and and get upset or you rally around this. It’s been the next man up for this team all season long with all of the injuries. And I’m not going to go through all of them because I’ll forget half. There have been so many. But it has been next man up all season long. You rally around this and every single game that you go out there, you’re doing it for Mike. You are making sure that you are putting this team in a position that if Mike can get healthy, he has an opportunity to still be able to play, that you are still playing football when he is ready to go. And I think that’s what this Buccaneers team absolutely will do. I think it’s what they have to do and I think those guys in the locker room, especially in the receiver room, care about him so much that that’s exactly what they’re going to do. Jenna Lane tweeted out that when she was talking to Mike Evans about his rehab process coming back from his annual hamstring injury, he was talking about thinking about Chris Godwin and he was thinking about Jayla McMillan. He has been the most selfless superstar that you can name over the course of the last 11 years. He’s never been the guy pouting on the sideline because he’s not getting the ball or saying stupid crap in a locker room after a loss or in a press conference or in media availability about how he’s not getting the ball enough and how he’s frustrated with the offense or anything. He has always been a guy that found success in the success of others. And that’s what true leaders are. That’s what true champions are. and to lose that out of the Buccaneers locker room for until at least December, you know, optimistically, best case scenario, you’re talking about getting him back maybe week 16, week 17, maybe not even until the playoffs. That’s what you’ve lost. It’s not the production. It’s not the streak. It’s the person. It’s the captain. It’s the leader. And to say that I’m heartbroken over this injury would be an understatement. And I’m not saying that from the perspective of a fan of the Buccaneers. I’m saying it from the perspective of a fan of Mike Evans, the human being and the person and the football player that we have all grown to love over the last decade. This is a devastating loss and I believe that this team can bounce back from it. But these are guys that are going to be really upset, really frustrated with the situation because of what happened. Wasn’t anybody’s fault. You know, I’m not It wasn’t like it came from a dirty hit or a hip drop tackle like Chris Godwins did last year, but this is a massive obstacle that the Buccaneers have to overcome now. And it sucks. There’s no other way to put it. It absolutely sucks. fans of football, fans of the Buccaneers, basically anybody who loves this game outside of the city of New Orleans because we all know how they feel about Mike Evans, they’re crushed by this because Evans is the kind of player that you just root for. And to lose him in that fashion is it’s awful. I do want to jump into the chat before we really start to dive into this game a little bit. And I did see one comment that I want to address for a minute. Uh Kyle Eddie, Bucks are frauds. No, they’re not. They absolutely are not. And I get you’re probably frustrated with the way that this game went. You’re frustrated with the performance that you saw in prime time. This team is absolutely not frauds. This was a team that did not have their best night. Plain and simple. And it wasn’t even the whole team. I’ll get into that in just a moment. But I mean, is is Buffalo a bunch of frauds because they got boat raced by Atlanta in prime time after Atlanta got boat raced by Carolina? Teams are going to have these games from time to time. I was on uh locked on sports today with Peter Peter Bicowski. You know, were the Packers frauds because they lost to Cleveland? Like teams have these kinds of games where nothing seems to go right. the offense couldn’t get it going. Baker was absolutely terrible. The the officiating was suspect at best. I even had a Lions friend of mine reach out and he goes, “You know, it was a good game. The refereeing was terrible, but it was still a pretty good game.” Um, and to be honest, the biggest reason you can point to the Bucks not being frauds is the fact that they stayed in it for as long as they did. There are not very many teams in the NFL that can go into fordfield against that offense, have their own offense, put up the worst performance they’ve had since 2009, and still be in the game in the fourth quarter. They’re going to bounce back. They’re going to be fine. This is one that you just have to throw out. You know, they had these games last year. They had these games in 2020 when they went on to win the Super Bowl. You know, were they frauds when they got absolutely blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs in the regular season? No. So, you can’t judge based off of one specific game because it it’s going to happen to every team in the NFL at some point. All right, we are going to get into the meat and potatoes of this game coming up in just a little bit. [Music] Thank you again for making Locked on Bucks your first listener view every single day. All right, I do want to jump into this game. And I always start these off with the biggest moment that got delayed because we had to talk about Mike Evans. Uh but I am going to point to the biggest moment in this particular game and where it all really started to go sideways. There were a couple that I could have gone with, but I I take a look at how things really shifted with a bogus illegal contact penalty against Jamal Dean there in the second quarter. So, the Lions failed to convert on third down and were going to punt deep inside their own territory. instead a Lions receiver. I believe it was Khalif Raymond. He initiated helmetto helmet contact with Jamal Dean who kind of tugged on his jersey a little bit as he fell to the ground and then Dean is the one that gets flagged for illegal contact. It was the second time in this game that the Bucks got a stop on third down and the Lions drive was extended by an illegal contact penalty against a quarterback. The very next play, Jamir Gibbs takes off for a 78-yard touchdown run to put the Lions up 14 to nothing. That turn of events was massive. Now, I don’t know what the offense would have done had the Lions punted there. Based on how the rest of the game goes, maybe they do nothing. Maybe they go three and out and they punt the ball away and this is all kind of a moot point. But you created a massive hole to try to dig yourself out of on the road and that became a huge problem moving forward. It was at that point that the offense started pressing a little bit too much and Baker was trying to force just too many things. You know, a after that entire sequence, the Bucks could not get anything going on offense much like during the first quarter. So, their next three possessions after that touchdown run by Gibbs, you had a threeandout, you had a fumble, and you had an interception. You had that fumble and that interception on backto back offensive plays. Again, you can point to that interception, and I was pretty vocal about this on Twitter, how, you know, it it gets awarded to the Lions even though a tie always goes to the offense. I don’t care what anybody says. Kate Uton had his arm around that ball inside up against the defender’s chest. The ball was up against his shoulder. Yes, the defensive back had two hands on it, but Uton still had that ball squeezed in. That’s a tie. Should go to the offense. Instead, it was another turnover. Then you have Jamal Dean, who shout out to that dude. He is playing absolutely phenomenal football. He was able to intercept the ball. The Bucks got a field goal at the end of the half. They open the second half with a scoring drive and you start to think, okay, the Lions let the Bucks hang around a little bit too long. They just marched down the field. They’ve gotten backtoback scores. Baker is starting to figure this thing out. But after that, it just continued to be an all-time stinker from the offense, primarily Baker Mayfield. And I know I’m going to upset some people about this, but I don’t care because those of you that have been with this show longer than the last couple of seasons know that I was the biggest Baker Mayfield advocate on the planet. I wanted the Bucks to trade for him when Brady retired the first time. So don’t sit there and tell me that, you know, I’m I’m bashing him or whatever because I am a massive Baker supporter. But he came into this game being talked about as the MVP of the league and a guy that was just able to make magic happen at the most crucial times in prime time against a team that you have a really good chance of facing in January and this game could have decided where that game will be played. That was by far the worst that, you know, not just the Bucks have looked since their loss to Denver last year, but it was the worst that Baker Mayfield has looked in a Buccaneers uniform. 28 for 50 for 228, a touchdown, an interception, a fumble that at least Tristan Worfs recovered, and he was sacked four times. He targeted Amecha Ibuka 12 times in this game and Ibuka only had four receptions. Those of you that have watched Ibuka long enough, even you can whether or not you watched him at Ohio State, if I has 12 targets, there’s no way that he’s only coming away with four receptions because maybe maybe seven of those were actually catchable targets. and the ones that he didn’t catch were broken up by used car salesmen and concession workers that were in the secondary. You absolutely cannot play like this against playoff teams. That’s been the other knock on the Bucks is that they have not beaten any real competition yet. It has taken the final possession of the game to beat teams that are not good. Atlanta, which was on a missed field goal by Young Wu. Houston, they’re not very good. The Jets, that wasn’t on the offense. Offense did more than enough to win that game. Defense imploded. Special teams imploded in the fourth quarter and it took a miracle miracle comeback. But the NerS are really the only true competition the Bucks have beat. They dug themselves a hole against the Eagles and ran out of time before they could battle back. And then they dig themselves a hole against the Lions. You cannot do that if you want to be considered a true contender. I was on this show. I was on 10 Tampa Bay. I was on national radio talking about how the Bucks are the best team in the NFL and Baker is the MVP of the league and they laid an absolute egg for everyone to watch there. There’s no excuse for it. No excuse for it. You can point to officiating. Absolutely. That played a part. It was not great. I still Baker talked about it. I still don’t get how you get a double challenge. The Lions challenged whether or not Kateton made a catch. That was the challenge. They said that he made the catch and the Lions lost the challenge, but then they go back to review it a second time, change the spot of the ball, and give the Lions their timeout back. You can’t do that. You say what you’re challenging, and that’s what gets looked at. You don’t get a twofer. So, you can point to a lot of different officiating mistakes. The officiating was not good in this game at all. But the Bucks still had an opportunity to win this game. The offense could not figure out what they were doing. We saw Baker miss throws that we have seen him complete 50, 60, 70 times this season. He was throwing the ball 12 feet in the air to Tez Johnson. He missed a bua on at least two, maybe even three just wide open throws. He was airmailing everything. It was a terrible performance from him. So, if you’re going to point the finger at somebody, don’t point it at the officials. The finger needs to be pointed at Baker Mayfield because if he plays the way that he normally plays since arriving in Tampa, the Bucks do not lose this game 24 to9. That’s the long and the short of it. Going to jump into the chat really, really quick. Um Josh says, “I disagree. All teams besides the Jets had winning records.” and that’s 100% fair. But you take a look at the Falcons, they’re they’re up and down. They’re all over the place. Nobody really knows what they are. And I’m not the one saying that the Bucks haven’t beaten anybody. I’m just saying that that’s been kind of the counter narrative to the talk about whether or not the Bucks are Super Bowl contenders. That that’s been kind of the the talk. I mean, Houston, to be fair, has a losing record right now. They have an anemic offense. They’re not a good football team. Um, but I get I get what you’re saying. Um, let’s see. Tsunami says, “I blame the O line. O line was rough in this one.” And and I think that was another big problem for the Bucks. And it started early. It’s something I’ve said a couple of times. I tweeted it. I I believe I sent it to the subtexters. Said it with uh Peter Bicowski. Pressure is cumulative, right? So, when that pressure was getting to Baker early in the game, mentally it was continuing to happen even when it wasn’t. Now, Baker still did a good job a couple of times of evading pressure and looking down the field, but you saw him get those happy feet early on in this game, and he never really had that opportunity to take a breath and settle himself down and start to get into his rhythm. the the whole offense was just completely offkilter the entire time and you know the the uh right side of the line was not great. I mean even Tristan Worfs got absolutely just blown past by Aiden Hutchinson. So it was it was an overall just a crap performance from the offense. There’s no other way to put it. But it starts with Baker Mayfield. All right, we are going to get into some final thoughts. That is coming up next on today’s episode of Locked on Bucks. Wpping things up here on a postgame live reaction episode of Locked on Bucks. And look, here’s kind of my my final parting thoughts because this is a short week with the Monday night game. Evan is going to be on tomorrow’s episode. We got to turn the page pretty quick. And I saw a lot of people throwing out some criticisms that at first might have been bordering on valid. But I do have to say this, the Bucks defense did just about everything you could have asked from them given the situation. They gave up some, you know, they they slow start because that’s the Bucks mo, right? They always have to start off slow. I’m on Raw. absolutely cooked them on that opening drive, but after that he really didn’t do a whole heck of a lot for the rest of the game. He had a couple of catches on the the next drive, but he was mostly, you know, dominant on that opening drive. Finished with six receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. After the first quarter, he kind of disappeared from the game. The the frustrating part was what Jir Gibbs was able to do, right? 136 rushing yards on 17 carries, another 82 in the air, but the defense was getting the stops that you needed them to get. At at halftime, the Lions were one of six on third downs, 0 of one on fourth downs. The Buccaneers were getting stops. They were giving the offense the chance to get back in the game. the final um third down efficiency. The Lions were three of 13 on third down. One of two on fourth down against that offense in that building. That’s about as good as you can ask for your defense. It was the chunk plays. It was the penalties. Albeit some of them were questionable. I will give you that. Early on, I thought it was going to be the cleats and the turf. You know, that that first big play that the Lions had was because Servasier Dennis slipped and fell on on Jir Gibbs catch and run. The play before that, the very first play of the game, Jamal Dean slipped and fell in coverage. It seemed to be a recurring theme throughout the game. Baker on the Bucks opening drive, it looked like he had room to run. He slipped and fell. But at the end of the day, the defense, they win the turnover battle. I realize that it says, you know, two to two, but you had a clutch stop on fourth down that you really, really needed. That’s a turnover on downs. The Bucks ended up with three turnover on downs because it was it was desperation late in the game. You had Jamal Dean outside of that slip on the opening drive. He played great football. You had Levante making plays, gets hurt, gets back on the field. Yaya with the strip sack early on. He’s been playing really good football. Anthony Nelson steps in for Hassan Reic. He plays really well. So, the defense did everything you could have asked of them. It was the offense that crapped the bed. I that that’s what it boiled down to. This offense could not do anything. Absolutely nothing. Two rushing first downs. I mean, Jir Gibbs by himself almost had more total yards than the Buccaneers did as a team. The Bucks finished with 251 total yards. Jir Gibbs had again 136 on the ground and what was it? 87 in the air, 82. So that’s 218 yards from just Jir Gibbs. That’s the difference. That’s the difference in this one. So I’m not going to come on here and and bash the Bucks defense. A lot of people were doing that on social media. A lot of people were saying that the the defense is terrible. The linebackers are terrible. This is terrible. That’s terrible. No, the offense was terrible. Baker was terrible. The offensive line was terrible. I’ve even seen people say that the play calling was bad. There was one play call that I thought was bad, and it was the screen pass on third and seven to Rashad White. That was the only one. The play designs were there. The receivers were getting open. The quarterback wasn’t hitting him. What did he have? Three Three passes, four passes either batted or tipped at the line. Uton made an incredible catch off of one of those deflections, but you had I lost count of the number of pass breakups that the Lions had. 12 12 passes defensed from a secondary that was comprised of second stringers and practice squad players. That’s where you point the finger. Baker underthrows Ibuka on what should have been a touchdown. You know, misses him wide open to get a huge chunk play into Detroit territory to get them back in the game with still plenty of time left on the clock. It’s at the end of of of the day. And again, I see um Constantinos saying the play calling was terrible. It wasn’t. The play calling was not bad. Execution was bad. The execution of the play calls is what did it. You don’t want Baker dropping back and throwing 50 times, but they took themselves out of the game so early that you had to try to throw your way back in. This is the game that you look back on. Just like I’ve mentioned Buffalo against Atlanta, I’ve mentioned Green Bay against Cleveland. Burn the tape. You burn the tape and you move on. You move on to a New Orleans Saints team that you are going on the road to face. and you beat the ever loving crap out of them. You hang 50 on their heads. You come out pissed off, ready to just dominate a team that you should dominate. Then you go into the buy. After the buy, again, things start to open up. The Pats game looks like it’s going to be a difficult one, but after the buy, you should have Chris Godwin back. You should have Bucky Irving back potentially. You might get Hassan Reic back at that point and you start to get healthier. You want to see Mike Evans suit up for this team again. You rally around this loss. You get pissed off about this loss just like the Lions did after losing to Kansas City in prime time last week heading into this one and you go out there and you assert your dominance over every other team that you face. This team is talented enough to do it. It’s a matter of whether or not they can execute what they need to because we saw none of that on Monday night, but we’ve seen it plenty throughout the season, so we know that they can do it. That is going to do it for this episode. I appreciate each and every one of you guys in the chat. I’m sorry this was a bummer of a show. I really am. It it it started off with the Mike Evans news and we didn’t have a whole lot of positives to talk about outside of the defense doing what you needed to do. But you are halfway through the old NFL season. There is no exact half point. But if I had told you in August that the Buccaneers were going to be six and two or I’m sorry, five and two after seven weeks, you’d have taken that all day long. This is a good football team that had a really, really bad day. Time to turn it around on a short week and head to New Orleans and get another division win. Jesus man you're acting like Evans died or something lol.
Not just the 49ERS were a talented opponent.. Seattle was a really good team as well.
Those are the two biggest wins we got
I’m sorry but the Cade Otton pick he had no possession there was no tie to be had. The Lions defender clearly had that ball. If one guy has two hands on the ball and the other guy has one hand pinned to the ball by the other guy it’s clear who has the ball
The Oline got dominated, which lead to constant pressure & a lackluster (pathetic) run game. Baker was off, so were the WRs, running the wrong routes, colliding with each other, and then when they are open, Baker missed them because he couldn't plant his back foot or was being pressured. He had a bad game, it happens.
The Lions didn’t challenge the catch, that is what the ref said but that was obviously not the challenge. It was the spot. Not sure what the refs were doing. Oh yeah, Great catch but he was short.
Oline got destroyed and Baker was not his accurate self even when he did have time. Add a few DL breakdowns and you have a one sided game….a lot more one sided than the score indicates.
When they could t sniff the 50 yard line after 3 possessions I knew they were going to lose
17:57, Used car salesmen and concession workers 😂, funny stuff.
Unfortunately, I think Mike is gonna hang up his cleats
Refs are as crooked as Campbell is
The offense looked panicked from the start & Baker had a bad game. The Defense played well considering zero help from the offense, my god, we needed turnovers from the defense to move the ball in the 1st half. & no they're not frauds as much as Detroit isn't a fraud from the KC game
& when are we gonna talk about the home field love ❤️ playoff teams seem to get from the refs, except of course at RayJ. Even Aikman called out some BS, only to go quiet for awhile after each comment (typically the red flag for bad officiating)
Headtrash killed the game… AND YES, officials are crooked and so are the lions. Call it right
As a fan of this team for the better part of 20 years, I have come to expect that there will be at least a game or 2 like this every season. James said it best, the loss of Mike is way bigger than the loss on the scoreboard. Above all else, I hope Mike is okay, I have the faith that he will continue to be there for this team throughout his recovery because thats the kind of man he is. But my heart breaks for him. I wanted to see him get that record for himself, for all the selfless work he has put into the community, and into the team. As for my personal feelings on the 1k streak, I won't cry because its over, I'll smile because it happened. Get well soon M1K3.
Even Saints fans have nothing but respect for a great player like Mike Evans. That was painful to watch last night. I am hopeful he returns next year completely healthy. Keep your head up Bucs fans, your Bucs may win by 50 this week against the Saints.
Oh NOW it's the refs smh
The NFL is scripted. Bucs were never going to win this game.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
1. That’s illegal touching by the book. 2. That wasn’t a tie the lions player had two hands on the ball.
3. They review everything reviewable on a challenge. That’s a common rule. The ref made a mistake by only looking at catch and not the spot so went back and looked at it. Campbell was yelling at him that they were reviewing the wrong thing. Since you do a football podcast you should probably learn the rules.
That was pass interference on EVANS when he got injured. Officiating was hot garbage as was dennis yet again. All that matters is we’re healthy as possible in the playoffs and what we do then. It’s just part of the a process. Watch and enjoy the BUCS wins until we get pretty healthy by the playoffs.
Baker was undoubtably off in this game no objection there Josh Grizzard did him absolutely no favors in his play calling low percentage play calls every third and fourth down all game. It was atrocious. Help your goddamn quarterback out when he’s not at his best.
Egbuka was not very good in this game either. Let’s be honest
Usually on point with you dude, but I completely disagree this time the play calling was very bad considering Baker was having a bad game and they did not put him in any better situation
Otton has to go man. He’s not elite
He’s a poor man’s poor man’s Cam Brate. He’s not awful but he’s not a starter. If he was that much of a threat he’d have more touches than he gets as opposed to being on the field most of the time for run blocking
Thank you James.
We are not done yet.
Let’s go!!!!!
