Flyers OT goal disallowed (again), Brink & Ersson WIN IT in shootout | PHLY Flyers Postgame
[Music] Hey. [Music] Hey everybody, how you doing? Woohoo. Well, that’s good. Welcome to PHLY Flyers Postgame presented by Bet 365. My name is Bill Matz. I’m your director of fun and games for the evening. Joining me live in the Xfinity studio, it is Mr. Flyerboy, Steve Jako. Woo! Yay! Yay! Yeah, another another big shootout win for our Philadelphia Flyers. Another overtime goal disallowed for uh a matter of inches and perspective apparently. I guess it really was offside this time unlike the goalie interference which is like Yeah, the rule’s dumb. Uh I still I think this rule was dumb too. I honestly I do I do hate this rule a lot. We got a lot going on tonight. Charlie O’Connor will join us on the Xfinity Mobile call-in line at some point, but let’s get right into tonight’s game. Steve, uh, for the first time since January 13th, 2009, there was a coach in a Flyers Penguins game who wasn’t Dan Bilesma or Mike Sullivan. That’s wild. That is wild to think about. And uh by the way, what is He’s like real life Squidward. That coach that guy, he’s got a balloon head. That guy I kept they kept saying Dan Muse and I thought they were saying Ham Hughes. I was like there’s no way Dan Ham Hughes is still playing. He kind of can’t possibly be. He kind of looked like the guidance counselor from South Park, Mr. Mackey. Like he did that big old dome right there. But uh yeah, it’s wild to think about. And how many coaches did we count the Flyers have had since then? I think it was like eight or nine. a lot. That’s a lot. Stevens is the coach at the time. Y to Lavy to Lavy to Ruby. Uh we have of course Dave Hel we all know and love. And then we had our interim Todd Gordon, right? Uh Scott Scott Scott Gordon. This is how much we remember these guys. Big Ala Vin Yo. Yes. Mike Yo. Mike Yo. John Tortoella. John Tortoella. And now we’re on Rick Tucket. And there was there was Brad Shaw in between. Yeah. An inter an interim job. Nine head coach. Nine coaches since the last time someone not named Sullivan or Biles but coached against the Flyers as the Penguins head coach. And uh we handed them a nice loss to get it started. Nice introduction. That did we did hand them a nice loss, but I just wanted to say that’s wild to me. And it’s also wild to me that uh we’re not being split screened with the Capitals and the Dallas Stars right now. I mean, I guess in a national broadcast when Obie’s on the other side, but we’re literally in the final 30 seconds of overtime, it’s overtime and the Flyers have a power play. What are you doing? The Caps and Stars are literally trading neutral zone dumpins and we’re like, “Got to be split screen.” And that was some of the most infuriating broadcast stuff. I don’t like hate on ESPN the way most people do. TNT clearly better than ESPN. Clearly, but I I think ESPN’s done a better job than like NBC. Sure. I thought they actually did a great job explaining the game tonight and I was glad that we had the crew that we did because I thought Ray Ferraro does a really good job and I forget who the playbyplay guy is, but he did a really good job. So, I thought it was a good crew tonight, but that split screen was obnoxious because it’s a tense game. Uh we had the situation where we thought that Tyson Forester won the game with a beautiful wrist shot. I am so mad that got taken away. It’s a shame because it was so nice and it just was such a bummer. But then it’s still overtime. The Flyers are still in the power play. It’s the waiting seconds and then most of the shootout was done with the split screen. I actually stood up in the studio and got closer to the TV to get a better view because I was just like this is ridiculous. So let’s lead things off here with our Ace Hardware temperature check. We’re going to take a look at Trevor Zegris because he’s staying hot. We got we can honestly use him in the office here because it’s been a little chilly. I like it. Our Ace Hardware temp check. Visit Ace Hardware Home Services online at aceh hardwarehomeervices.com to get started on your next project. The redhot Trevor Ziggress. He has a point in all but two games this year. He has at least a point in every home game. Red hot is pertaining to two different things with Trevor Zegress tonight because not only is he redot with all the assists he’s had and everything like that. Great point totals. Looks very confident with the puck. He was redot with his temper tonight. He was feisty. He was he was uh doing a lot lot of uh jawing out there. He had a lot to say. He was picking fights in that scrum. now ultimately gets himself ejected and the all-time best shootout shooter can’t go for the Flyers and that’s less than ideal but since they won I don’t care I’m totally fine with it pick fights Crosby also was ineligible because he left the bench uh and they made the distinction so the game’s over Malin he’s going to leave the penalty box because you’re allowed to leave the penalty box uh so he’s not ineligible for the shootout and he did end up scoring in the shootout, but Crosby left the bench to join that scrum and that resulted in both he and Trevor Zaggress not getting to go in the shootout. But Bill, is there anything more flyer ultimately than getting tossed out of the game for doing something stupid because your temper got the best of you? I The way that Zegris was jawing at guys tonight, the way he was talking trash with people, I felt like he truly became a Philadelphia Flyer tonight. It felt really good. uh his assist in the first period uh was his seventh assist. He is now nine points in nine games. Had the two shots on goal. Looked like he made another beautiful play to set up the Tyson Forester winner, but it was deemed he didn’t initially get the puck all the way over the line. So when the team enters and he pulls it back and then makes the pass, it doesn’t count. Uh and Tyson Forester seemed to know it. Uh they zoomed in on him on the broadcast in the celebration. He goes, “I think that was offside.” And it was so barely though. I mean, it’s just stupid how barely offside it was. It didn’t affect the play at all. Like that’s I I know like it just like affected us and so we’re going to talk about it as if well obviously they need to change this. I jumped out of my I jumped out of my seat. I pumped my fist and went f yeah. And I made a fool of myself in front of all the Sixers, you know, guys across the hall and just, you know, come on. I like to make a fool of myself only for good reason. I know the league hates the uh No, the league hates the league hates fun. The league hates fun though. The league does not like the resetting in threeon three where you may take the puck out of the zone, circle back around to regain possession overtime. Just get rid of it. Get rid of end offside and or at least a touchup where once you gain the offensive zone, you then extend the offensive zone to the red line. So you don’t have to like play that game at the blue line where I’m going to turn it over. I have to just leave. Like just let them go offside. Quite honestly, I’ll never understand why it even exists as a rule. But in threeon-ree overtime when it’s all about time and space, why are we trying to clog it up? I’ll never get that a little bit. Why are we trying to clog it up? It’s the fastest sport. Let’s make it fast. Let’s let it be fast and exciting and fun for God’s sake. And everything slowed down all of a sudden. This game was flying by, Bill. It was The first two periods took about 40 minutes. It felt like like there were no stoppages. There wasn’t even an intermission. It was just 40 straight minutes and then we’re like, we might get out of here by nine. I was so freaking excited and then everything took forever. But in terms of the Ace Hardware temp check, Zegris, you have this here from Adam Kimmelman. Uh his assist gives him uh six straight uh home games of points. He’s the first Flyer player with a six-game homepoint streak to start a season since Claude Jaru and Wayne Simmons did it in 201617. Jaru got to seven games. Uh he has at least the one point in seven of nine. He didn’t come up with one in the opener in Florida or in that uh game in Ottawa last week, but some pretty damn good company there, Bill. It’s I mean two of like everyone’s favorite flyers of this generation or I guess the past gen who the hell knows who knows but of the past 15 years of the past 15 years. I I was talking about this on the Gargano show this morning. Uh I was I was a guest there around 11 o’clock this morning and uh man Danny had himself an off season. Now the Vadar move at the time it was like really this guy like is he really who we’re trying to get like better in that and you you got a guy who just lost his job to a rookie. He’s never started more than 29 games. How does this really work? We’ll get to Arison in a bit because he was good tonight after the first goal. Uh but and then you look at the Trevor Zaggress trade. It was a risk certainly and there’s a ways to go for him in terms of consistency being the center we need him to be hopefully all that stuff. But he’s just points on the board every night for this team. It’s really hard to argue with seven assists and nine points in nine games. It’s hard to argue. And just the confidence he plays with out there. The just playmaking ability he has is unbelievable. It is so much fun to watch. I keep going back to the pass he made to D’vorak the other day where he just does the no look move and it was such a thing of beauty. But in general, he’s just making awesome passes. I’m loving him with Mishkov and D’vorak right now where I think they’re just it’s a nice combination of players. Mishkoff I thought had one of his better games of the season tonight. Looked a lot more confident, took a lot more chances and uh was making a lot smarter passes. And a lot of that is just playing with zebras. I think they just they’re playing off each other well. They’re playing off each other well. They’re both just such intelligent players with the puck and they’re so offensively creative that it’s just it’s working out really well. But Zeus, man, I make that trade a hundred times out of a hundred to start with. But then, you know, it’s like you got Ryan Paling, right? Who cares, right? fourthline player. You got a couple picks, who cares? You have a guy who’s just generating great offense. And also, just as somebody who has to watch the Flyers 82 games a season, he’s just fun to watch play. Zegris is uh Zegris is showtime right now. He is He’s mustsee TV, he’s whatever the hell you want to call him. He’s making plays every game that we haven’t seen Flyers players make consistently in a long time. and he looks great on the power play, which is a big thing that this team has been missing for a long time. Even that uh even that assist that gets taken away on the overtime winner, he gets that puck through to Forester through traffic. Like that’s a really good play. Now he needs to gain the zone and like know where he is. Like Tyson Forester from 40t away shouldn’t have been able to see it better than Zegress or the officials standing there, but we’ll get to the officials at some point. Oh, they had a name. But that is our Ace Hardware temp check. Check out aceh hardwarehomeservices.com to get you started on your next project. Yeah. Uh Ziggy 46Z, whatever you want to call him. I like Big Z. Yeah, Trevor Ziggress is um Ziggy’s good too. I just Zigg is real good. But Ziggy also makes me think of the the comic strip character who’s like small and dumpy and he’s kind of the opposite of that. It’s like a stretched out Ziggy. I think of the the idiot son in season. Yeah. Season two of the wire. just he’s got the he’s got the Ziggy tattoo and he has the Y on his thumb and I’m like that right there that right there is the perfect explanation how stupid this character is. Like anyway yeah two shots for Zris tonight he gets uh 1852 in time on ice an assist and it feels like he should have gotten more than just an assist but it also feels like the Flyers should have scored a lot more than two goals in this game. Yeah, we’ll get to Aerson and he bounced back after the first bad goal, but uh Artis Sheil was awesome. Like it should have been four or 51 after the first period tonight. He really kept the Penguins in it. Gave them a chance to get a point out of tonight’s game. Uh on my instant reactions, which you can read for free at all phy.com or on Yahoo Sports, who are picking up our uh our postgame postgame instant reactions here for PHLY. I said like I I just uh I’m I’m just mad that they uh they were able to find a goalie, but I had to think about it a second. No, this was actually the perfect win because not only do we beat the Penguins, but they get a point in the standings and that’s wonderful for the Gavin McKenna for the Gavin McKenna sweep stakes that they are currently taking themselves out of with their strong play. They’re out of it at the moment for sure. But man, the goalending in the second period in particular for the Penguins was very good because the Flyers dominated the second period. 14 shots on goal for the Flyers in the second period. They had 10 in the first, 14 in the second, only eight in the third. That second period, they were all over the Penguins. They really did dominate play. And it’s only because of uh is it Sheilas? Is that what it is? Sheilos. Sheilas. Okay, there we go. I love pronunciations in hockey. But Sheilas was lights out in that period. He really was outstanding. The only goal they managed to get in was uh TK I believe, right? Yeah. And it was a great goal, but like there were some amazing opportunities. Mishkov in particular had this one backhand opportunity that I believe Zegris gave him the feed on that was right out front and Mishkov made a great move. It just she made a great save. Let’s drive. All right, let’s talk a little bit about about Mishkov. Uh he has three shots on goal in the game, a few really, really solid chances. Uh he had the cross ice pass in the offensive zone to Sealer to set him up with a chance. Five total shot attempts. It feels like he’s coming along and right now he’s just a little bit snake bitten. He’s just a little bit like, man, if he was shooting the way he was in the first third or last third of the of last year, um he’d have like eight goals right now. Oh, absolutely. I think Charlie at one point during the game put on the socials that uh you know, Mishkov kind of moved from I forget like just the area of just playing bad to snake bitten. And I really did feel that way tonight. I felt like this was maybe his strongest game of the season. He looked a lot more confident. He looked like he really had his legs about him. And uh yet again, another fantastic shootout goal from Matthew Mishkov. So even if he’s not necessarily giving you the points, he’s helping the Flyers win hockey games, which is what you want out of him at the end of the day. What the shootout moves, you know, they were down Ziggris, but Mishkov comes out, makes a fantastic move, and then Brink also answers with another just piece of filth himself. It’s Brink deaked Sheilov’s onto his ass. like it was really something to watch and you could tell Meech wanted a little uh wanted a little revenge for getting stopped on his forehand backhand move earlier in the game. He goes to it again and deflects it off the top of the of the uh goalie’s pad, but it eventually ends up in the net. So, yeah, he is contributing to the last two wins scoring in the shootout. I mean, Jeff Carter, you got to lift that puck. You have to lift that puck. The points are going to come for me. I think we’ve gotten to the point where we’re like the points are going to come, but right now it just feels like there’s he’s almost there. He’s like he’s inching towards it. And you see tonight, no points, three shots on goal, plays just under 15 minutes. Uh but he does get out there in overtime on the power play. He does have a few scoring chances, sets up a few scoring chances, helps win the game. It’s coming. We’re just not quite there yet. And I think a big part of that right now is developing chemistry with his linemates. I really like that the Flyers have three stable lines right now where you’ve got that top line with Tippet Couttoriier and Connectnne. They’re going to play the hard minutes. They’re going to get out there and they’re going to, you know, get in there. Um but then you’ve got that Kate’s Forester Brink line which had another strong game tonight. I thought Brink in particular continues to play out of his Bobby Brink was everywhere tonight. We are going to talk about him quite a bit uh later in the show and with Charlie. I am positive of it. We gota talk about the uh the Flyers goalender though because my man is coming back around. I would say your man Sam the son of your man. I I I like Sam Harrison and I believe there’s something there with Sam Harrison. It’s just evidence keeps mounting that like, yeah, when you play him a lot, it doesn’t go very well. And after a slow start to this year, at least in terms of the numbers, he turned in what is by far his best performance. Stops 24 out of 26, stops two out of three in the shootout. Ends the game with a save, which was reminiscent of Brian Boucher against the Rangers. Like, I am going to make sure this thing stays out even though it is inching into the net. Yeah. Uh but he was he was good tonight. 923 save percentage and save percentage above 900. It’s really nice to see. It’s nice to see for him. That said, the uh the first goal that he surrenders now it was trash. TK needs no it was it was bad. TK needs to not let the man get a step on him. Definitely not let him transition to his forehand to like make that an actual shot. But at the end of the day, Er, the guy is over here and you’re up against this post. Seal the post and it can’t go in. You got to seal the post. Just ask Flyers legend Michael Leighton. Yes, we saw Dan Vladar uh earlier a couple of games ago where he gets caught out of position and it looks like they’re going to try to bank the puck off of the back of him into the net. And so he positioned himself in a way where his leg wasn’t inside the post, it was outside the post. So that move would be nullified. This is a different situation, but it’s just like you have to know where you are in the net and you have to know what they’re going to be going for. It does feel like the uh shot was intended to be a little up high and it got through kind of in the armpit rib cage area, but seal the post and it can’t get through. That was disheartening. And I was like, “Oh, so we’re going to outplay Pittsburgh for like 45 of these 60 minutes and they’re going to get a couple cheapies because Sam Harrison is still, you know, giving up one goal too many and we’re not going to win this game.” But after the bad goal, he was very good. He was very good. And that second goal was such a fluke. Just some Crosby nonsense. I feel like half of the point he’s got what, like 1500 career points and half of them are just nonsense like that. Just nonsense. They use telekinesis or something to just put that puck bang that puck in off Sealer’s back. Just ridiculous goal like Crosby just the puck hit the puck hit Sealer’s stick, Sealer’s body, the post and Sam Eerson before crossing the goal line. That’s just some like he was trying a centering pass as well. This wasn’t even an odd angle shot. He was trying to center the puck and it just it went ary for the Flyers and that was a bummer. But I will say if it had to be some nonsense, I’m glad it was Crosby because we had him over half a point at minus 210. So you’re two for two tonight, Bill. Two for two. The big game from Bobby Brink and Sydney Crosby gets his obligatory point. So uh we’re getting hot. Don’t let him get hot, ladies and gentlemen. But with uh with Arison, normally we kind of just check out during intermission. No offense, of course, to the great intermission crew that we have for NBC Sports Philadelphia. They do a really good job. But uh we were I don’t know just something picked our interest tonight with the ESPN crew. The three of us all decided to eat. So we were like just we weren’t just like walking around the office. We were all eating dinner. Yeah. And Messier just starts speaking all of a sudden and just kind of trashing that goal by Harrison calling it like an AHL player goal. This is He’s like Mike Keenan would have pulled him and it was like the third shot of the game that he faced. He’s like this Mike Keenan would have pulled him like that was an AHL goal. I don’t know what the hell he’s doing. I was done. It was very funny. I Mark Messier after that. After that, we saw some big saves. Saw some big saves on the power play. We saw him make some stops in overtime and ultimately Aerson shines where he’s best and that is in the he shines where he’s best and that’s in that’s in the shootout. He is I think now 10 and three in his career in shootouts. It is a weird universe. We are in Bizarro World, Bill, where the Flyers actually are good in the shootout. Sam Erison very good in the shootout. Trevor Zegris, and now we’ve got Mishkov and Bobby Brink apparently, who are just killers in the shootout. Yeah, I was happy to see them go with Brink uh after Zegris gets booted. I’m like, “Oh, okay. So, it’s going to be TK and he tried the move. He tries every single time and it wasn’t there.” Um, that’s And Mishkov goes up. You could tell he was just like, “I’m scoring. I’m scoring because Yeah, I haven’t scored. You denied me in the game. I am mad that you stopped this move in the game. So, I’m trying it again. And Brink comes out. But I really got to give it to to Arison for not letting one bad goal turned into three turn into Yeah, he got pulled after 35 minutes. And now we’re talking about, okay, it was Vidar. Do we go back to Var? Do we let Arison try again because he didn’t play the full game? Let’s see if we can like how much are we going to play Vidar? Well, that was the story of last season. Eri would let in a bad goal. it would chip away at his confidence and then all of a sudden you see him on the bench for Fed Ov he’s going to let up another four or five and that’s kind of it’s kind of been Erison’s MMO is if he’s not strong early you got to get him the hell out of there because it could really snowball and to his credit he didn’t let that happen tonight in fact he finished much stronger than he started yeah absolutely great game for Sam Harrison right there and another guy I wanted to shout out who we might not be talking as much about tonight but I mean he scored what almost was the winning goal if not for a fluke off of Nick Sailor. Travis Kknney finishes the night with five shots leading the team. Five shots is a lot of shots to have in the game. Uh 1728 on ice and just had a great presence. Uh I feel like he’s rubbing off a little bit on Ziggris, too, because you remember earlier in the game, Ziggress was trash talking. I believe it was Dar. Uh Broad Street Hockey uh had pointed out this clip where uh Zegris was apparently telling him, “Nice effing mustache, you f.” So, I think maybe TK’s rubbing off a little bit on Big Z over there. And I love it. That was You pointed out that was a very That was a cop mustache. It’s a cop mustache. 100%. I just found it. So, since 2023 24, Sam Harrison is 10 and3 uh in shootouts. Leads the NHL in shootout wins since then, and it appears he leads the league in shootout. Uh Anton Forsberg actually no has an awesome shootout save percentage but he has a shootout save percentage of 787 which is among the league leaders since he became an everyday NHLer and his 10 wins are the most this team getting games. Now listen it’s uh you know there’s two times now we’ve had a goal taken off the board in overtime in the first nine games of the season. That’s too many. You don’t want that. Oh yeah. But this is to me their path to the playoffs. Turn a couple of those one-goal games into games you get into overtime. And if you can survive overtime, you have a great chance in the shootout given this team’s skill level. And this is what we talked about in pregame, Bill. We talked about that if the Flyers are going to win this game, they were going to have to limit the Penguins offense. And they certainly did that. I mean, the Penguins coming into this game were the highest scoring team in the NHL goal-wise, and the Flyers were among the lowest. So clearly the Flyers specialty had to be defense and you look at the score two to two and uh you know there it is. All right on the other side we’re going to be joined by Charlie O’ Conor on the Xfinity Mobile callin line. But first we got to take another word from our sponsors. So, that’s a false start on Charlie O’ Conor. What are we going to do? How are we going to kill the time? Let’s talk about tonight’s game changer driven by Elkins Chevrolet together. Let’s drive. And it’s got to be Bobby Brink. Bobby Brink with the power play goal. Two points on the night and the shootout winner. Deking the net minder onto his ass. Uh Bobby Brink, we’ve been impressed with him for a lot of this season. We pointed out his play uh in a game a couple of nights ago where it was like, yeah, he wasn’t like killing it. He was just kind of It’s not like he put up five points. It’s just like he was everywhere. And tonight from the jump, uh Charlie talked about how it looks like he’s legitimately fast now. Like his stride’s never going to look good, but he’s legitimately fast. He was all over the ice tonight. Another three shots for Bobby Brink. Brena, could we get the picture up of uh Bobby Brink in the Bernie paras? He got the Bernie mask tonight and it’s a great picture. I put the link in the uh show notes over there. But um yeah, I mean he just was everywhere. His speed is something else. The way he is working with that Kates Forester line is just like the that is a perfect hockey line right there, Bill, where you’ve got two just defensive studs, guys. I Forester making so many just smart plays. I forget if it was a I think it was a penalty kill play he made at one point in the game where he and where he pokes the puck out of the zone where it just like is in dead space. There’s another time on the power play where he gets back and he’s just there when the puck needs to be get gotten by somebody. He is just so smart and his hockey sense is next level and Case is just in the middle of every scrum. He’s all these guys are always near the puck and Brink’s speed makes that line next level. Yeah, he’s been uh he was absolutely tonight’s game changer. It was uh one of the best games I’ve ever seen Bobby Brink play. Just his uh his engagement in on every shift and you see him uh he’s wearing the mask, he’s accepting the mask. Uh it’s it’s cool to see Bobby or Brink kind of make a statement because we’ve been thinking like all right Trevor Zegris might not be an everyday center. He might at least be someone who plays hybrid wing might be listed at wing and you have to have another center. Mishkov’s not going anywhere. TK signed longterm. They drafted Porter Martone. Owen Tippet signed longterm. Tyson Forester they freaking love. Someone’s going to be the odd man out. Like again, they drafted Martone. They have other guys coming. Let’s make this a hard decision, Bill. Bobby Brink clearly showing it. He doesn’t want to be the odd man out. And now joining us on the Xfinity Mobile call-in line. He’s never the odd man out. He is Philadelphia’s number one hockey beat writer. Charlie O’ Conor. Chuck, before we get started, overall thoughts on the game. Well, that was a hockey game, huh? That was a fun one. That was a That was a throwback Flyers Penguins hockey game. That was great stuff. Uh look, the Flyers I thought overall the better team in this game if we’re just breaking down the game itself and the territorial battle. Thought they probably should have been up three, four to one at the end of the second, but they leave the uh the door open. They let the uh the Penguins stay in it. Penguins get really lucky obviously at the end of the third with the uh with the Crosby goal which look I’ve seen Sydney Crosby score goals against the Flyers where he’s carrying the team on his back and doing crazy things. That was pure luck. That was Sydney Crosby getting you know a pat on the back from the hockey gods for all the booze that he gets in this arena. Whatever it happens but the Flyers left the door open by not scoring another goal that you you put yourself in the position where if a bounce goes against you it could go into overtime. But then that overtime, man, I mean, that was fun. That was that was old school, crazy, chaotic Flyers Penguins hockey. And I gotta say, you know, the two things I come out of that that overtime, a besides just the fact that it was it was it was a wild stretch of hockey to watch. Number one, I’m impressed with the team’s ability to keep their composure, relatively speaking. Like obviously emotions boiled over at times, but you know they they don’t lose their cool after they uh you know they they miss the penalty on Case and they immediately call another penalty on Ziggas and then there’s there’s a time period where they think they’ve lost the game. They have a great penalty kill. Then obviously they have the chance where they almost score and then it gets called back. They don’t lose their cool there. Then the big scrum happens where everybody’s, you know, jumping on each other’s back and eight players apparently were deemed ineligible to be in the shootout and the Flyers still they they they keep it on the level and then they go out there and Mishkov and Brink score score uh shootout goals and the Flyers win it. So number one love the fact they kept their composure in the midst of the chaos. Number two and and I alluded to this a minute ago penalty kill was amazing tonight. Now, I don’t know how much of that was the Penguins power play being just god awful, but hey, it takes two to tango. And the Flyers penalty kill was basically every time not just good, like straight up dominant. They were completely controlling play. They were creating chances. And then when the chips were down in that overtime period, the the Penguins I I think probably most people thought the Flyers was going to lose that game. You know, number one, they almost score the goal and then it gets overturned, but you just figure, ah, it’s going to end with a Crosby power play goal, of course, and the Flyers barely gave them any zone time. That was an amazing penalty kill. And the PK in this game really stepped up in a big way against, you know, maybe not a power play that’s firing on all cylinders, but it has future Hall of Famers. Like, we’re talking about Sydney Crosby, you have Genny Mock and Chris Latang. I don’t know if he’ll make the Hall of Fame, but Maul and Crosby definitely will. Latang might. There’s really good There’s really good plays on this really good players on this power play and the Flyers penalty kill just completely nullify them. So, really good work on that front, too. Let’s Let’s be real with each other. Latang’s making it and it ain’t because he deserves it. Charlie, come on. Okay. Come on, Phil. I noted the power play for the Penguins at one point was Crosby, Malin, Carlson, and Russ. Brian Rust. Yeah, Russ. Yeah. Yeah. And Carlson is a Hall of Famer, too, probably. Right. You would think. I was like, “Yeah, I think Carlson has to be.” But uh yeah, overall I think at one point ESPN said the Flyers had the eighth ranked penalty kill in the league right now. They’ve killed like 13 or 14 in a row. They’ve been on a really good hot streak and that was a big concern for people coming into this season because everybody loved Brad Shaw and they love the power kill style. So overall just I I feel like this is very good results for what we’re seeing from the penalty kill so far. All right, Chuck, we got to talk about the one and only Bobby or Brink. He was tonight’s Elkins Chevrolet game changer and uh I man he was everywhere. I thought tonight was the night it really stood out to me what you pointed out a game or two ago. He’s legit fast now. Um he I thought it was he was all over the ice especially in the first two periods. He scores the winner in the shootout. What did you think of Bobby Brink? Yeah, obviously he gets the uh the early power play goal. Um that’s more of just like a be and Johnny on the spot type of play. Obviously, you got to finish it, but that wasn’t necessarily him creating the opportunity. He takes advantage of the hard work that Noah Kates uh does in front and the nice pass from Zeus to Kates to get him open down low in the first place. Rest of the game though, yeah. Yeah. Brink was everywhere. He was he was creating opportunities. It seemed like every time he was on the ice, he was creating a scoring chance for himself or his linemates. He was being creative. He was being assertive. He was making plays with the puck. He was doing things without the puck. Yeah, Brink looked great. And look, he’s definitely one of their three shootout guys for the rest of the year. Like I think what we’re probably looking at it being what? Ziggress, Mishkov, and Brink the rest of the year, right? Because Brink, I mean, look, we know Mishekov has the skills. We know Zegris, as we’ve pointed out on the show over the past week. Right now, by the numbers, best shootout specialist in the game. Now, sample isn’t that big, but hey, he might keep it up. Brink looks like he deserves to be on their level. Like I I don’t know what his his numbers are career-wise, but if they keep throwing him out there, I think they’re going to look pretty good because Brink looks fantastic in the shootout. And he looks really good overall and he’s it’s easy to forget, too. He was on the line that spent most of the game matched up against Sydney Crosby. Yeah. Uh I think they said two for eight during on the broadcast. He might have been one of the like started slow, started to pick it up guys, but I’ll uh I’ll look it up after the show about Brink, but he’s just been really impressive. And we were saying like it’s very clear, you know, there’s a lot of wingers on this team and coming to this team shortly. Someone’s going to be the odd man out. Bobby Brink does not want it to be him. Uh he’s been really good this season. Another strong game from Brink. Got to talk about your guy, Charlie. Sam Harrison, the son of Harris. Uh listen, we’ve been saying, okay, he’s better than his numbers, but how many times can we say that before we just look at it and go, I don’t know. These are the results, man. like the results are the results. Sorry. Uh he gives up what I deemed a terrible goal and what Mark Messier called an AHL goal in uh on the broadcast tonight at the intermission, but after that solid shines in the shootout like he normally does 10 and three in his career in shootouts. What do you think of uh kind of putting his stamp on this game? Well, at least this time you can’t say that well it was a better than his numbers game because he finished with a 923 save percentage. So, you can’t argue like, ah, well, he looked better than his numbers. Not his numbers were actually good. Look, first goal is terrible. Can’t give that up. If if I’m going to give even the the the weakest of defense for that uh for that goal, it’s that I don’t even think the guy who shot it wanted it to go where it was where it ended up. I think he whiffed on the shot and it’s almost like Arison got fooled because he anticipated where the shooter wanted the puck to go rather than where it ended up and then it slips by. Still, you got to cover that short side post. Like that’s just that that that’s a it’s an easy goalie thing. Don’t give up the short side post. Don’t cheat over. He cheats over. He gets burned. The Crosby go I had somebody in my mentions yelling at me for that one. It’s like dude, it hit off Nick Cer’s shoulder. There’s nothing a goalie can do on that one. Four things. Yeah. Like I don’t know. And and this is but like this is the reason why you know you you guys and other people scoff at the whole like well you can’t keep saying he’s better than his numbers. I don’t know when. It seems like every game one of those goals happens. And like I I get what you’re saying where it’s like, well, you can’t say it’s always bad luck, but but what if it is? What if over what is not that large of a sample size, he’s just getting a ton of bad luck goals this season that go against him and at some point the bad luck goals are going to stop and you’re going to left be left with a pretty decent goalie. Maybe it is that simple. It very well could be, Charlie. The thing I’ll say though is some people are just unlucky. Like Sam Hanky was unlucky. That’s a fair point. Sam Hinky was unlucky and they had to get rid of him if they ever wanted to win a lottery. Like that’s the way it had to go. Some guys are just unlucky. But I was happy to see Aerson. Yeah, he had the unlucky goal. He had the bad goal, but he didn’t give up more than two. He’s good in the shootout again, which is that’s his specialty. Uh, it seems like it might be the Flyer specialty cuz four out of nine games have gone to overtime. We’re on pace for what, like 38, Charlie, they we had a 6:00 puck drop today and I’m not getting home till 11. It’s just something that I have to come to grips with. Uh, it’s this is infuriating, but at least they’re winning and the games are entertaining. They’ve now played back-to-back entertaining games against division opponents, and that might be the first time in five years. So, at least we have that going for us. We got that going for us, Bill. So, I love fired up Charlie almost as much as I love fired up Trevor Zagris. Oh, yeah. Chippy game from Trevor Zaggress tonight. Has he always been this way or is it just playing in the orange and black rubbing off on him? Well, I think he’s always been a bit of a chirper like he likes to get under people’s skins, but it does seem like maybe and I I don’t want to say that it’s the it’s the orange and black that’s getting to I think if anything it may just be the fact that like he’s really enjoying being on this team. He’s with his butts. He’s already built that chemistry, that like I’m gonna go to bat for you camaraderie that you need to do the things that he was doing tonight. There’s this clip I think uh uh I think you uh your guys at Broad Street Hockey put it up where he was uh he was chirping at a Dwars mustache. That was pretty funny. Um and he was uh was it was a little profanity, but it was good. Um so uh so definitely got a kick out of that when I saw that on the way up from the uh from the press conference. But no, Zegra’s look, like I’m sure the Flyers would have loved to have had him in the shootout because he takes the misconduct penalty, ineligible for the shootout as a result. But everybody I talked to after the game was like, look, you know, love the fact that he’s going in there to defend teammates and, you know, we’ll pick him up in the shootout if we have to. I think Kknney may maybe made a joke like, well, maybe he wouldn’t have done that if he knew that rule, but but seriously, it’s something that you want to see from your guys. And KNI pointed out like he’s not the only one who’s sticking up for teammates. You know, Kenki was like, “Hey, me stuck up for me earlier in the season. These are not, you know, like look, it’s I’m sure they appreciate when Nick Deloreier steps in to defend them.” But that’s Nick Deloreier’s role. That’s his job. His job is to do that. So, it’s appreciated, but it’s expected. It’s not expected when Maf Mishkov and Trevor Zaggers are jumping in in defense of their teammates, but they’re doing it. It just does seem like, you know, remove John Tortoella from the mix, add a few new pieces, and the vibes are back to where they were two years ago before Tordella scratcher. Hey, me personally, I blame Scott Lton. Um, beautiful. You blaming Sarge? I love Lton. Come on. Uh Charlie, speaking of Matt V Mishkov, no points on the night, but I thought he’s like, we keep talking about inches and almost. Uh Steve referenced a tweet of yours, I think, from tonight. Like he’s moved from playing bad to now just snake bitten. Like that’s what you’re see like his shootout goal. I feel like he was using that move no matter what because it got stopped in the game and he was pissed about it. And so like that’s basically what we got from him tonight. He’s creating chances. He’s getting chances, but ah not quite breaking through. Is that what you’re saying? Yeah, it does seem like we are on the verge of a floodgates breaking open game. Now, I don’t know if that’s going to be like his first hattick or whatever, or it was just going to be your a run-of-the-mill, you know, two goal, one assist game, but it feels like he’s getting closer. He’s creating chances for himself. He’s putting himself in positions to uh to to to be a recipient for passes that create chances. I really liked it was in the first period because one thing that that and I pointed this out on social media. One thing that Ritaka has harped on over the last couple weeks is like look I want him trying to create chances but there’s some non-negotiables with me and one of those is that when we don’t have the puck in the defensive zone he can’t be blasting the zone when when it when it’s borderline maybe when we have the puck definitely but you can’t be blasting the zone when we literally don’t have possession. Well the chance he had on two it gets stopped. That was perfect Rick Tocket cheating hockey where the second the Flyers have the puck, he’s gone. But it wasn’t a second before. And you saw it on the video. I I retweeted it on on X. Like it it was it was as perfect of a, you know, Mishkov 2.0 what they want him to be as you’re going to see on video. And it just seems like he’s getting closer. It seems like he looks a little bit quicker. Now, there were still some times in this game where I did see, you know, some of the effects of, you know, the conditioning. There was one play where and and I took it I took a note of it. It was near the end of a shift, but but Zegris had just carried the puck into the zone and he looked over to Meech and Mishkov jumped off the ice probably because he was gassed. And that’s one of those things where, you know, maybe in January he won’t be leaving the ice because he’ll still have some energy and he’ll be able to go in and maybe create a chance off of a dangerous play at the end of the shift by his by his linemate. So, it’s still not all the way there, but the creativity, the the confidence seems to be coming back. He just needs to get that feel for the finishing ability, and it’s just not all the way there, but he’s getting closer, I think. All right, Chuck, we appear to have about 20 super chats, and I still have another ad break to get to. So, we’re going to do three stars. It is time for Charlie O’ Conor’s three stars of the game. Who is tonight’s third star? All right, third star. gonna go uh gonna go a little offboard here, but I think despite the fact that he doesn’t get on the score sheet, I thought Jamie Dzo was fantastic in this game. I thought he made so many good plays. He he led the team in in underlying metrics of five and five and the eye test matched up with that. I thought Dale was just not I I hesitate to use the word dominant, but he was controlling play when he had the puck. There were so many times where he’d have forch checkers on him and he’d just shoot the puck off the boards right on the stick to a teammate who’d move the puck up ice. The Flyers dominated with Jamie Dzel on the ice. I’m going to pull up these numbers. With Disil on the ice at five on five, they outshot the Penguins 20-7. They collected 84% of the expected goals and in my mind he very much passed the eye test with flying colors. Drizzel continues to play really well. Might not have on the score sheet. I think he’s a big part of why they win this game. Jamie Dell, third star. Chuck, love that pick. But I do have to correct you. You’re mispronouncing his name. It’s Jamie Dryskinn. Oh, okay. Okay. I gotcha. I see where you’re going with this. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Who is tonight’s second star? Yeah. Second star is Noah Kates. Um, again, you know, doesn’t doesn’t blow up the score sheet here. Finishes with one assist. He led all Flyers in ice time. And the reason why he let all flyers in ice time is because he was basically hard matched up against against Sydney Crosby the entire game and Kate’s won that matchup. Like I know Crosby gets the goal. That’s a fluke goal. When when we’re playing real hockey out there, Kates outplayed Sydney Crosby. Does that mean Noah Kates is a better player than Sydney Crosby? Of course not. But that mean there you go. But in this game, Noah Kates in my mind got the better of the matchup. And the goal that Brink scores like look good play by Brink. You got to finish it. You know, that’s the problem that Mishkov is having right now, finishing on his chances. Got to finish on your chances. But Noah Case looks real real confident and real comfortable around the net on the power play. That’s exciting. Like look, he’s no he’s not a Wayne Simmons, but that was a Wayne Simmonsish play. The the the you know, he spins around, gets the puck on that, creates a rebound that allows Brink to put it in. He’s strong. He’s battling through checks. Noah Case looks really, really good to my eyes and I thought he was fantastic in this game. Second star. He set up a great chance on the penalty kill, intercepted a pass, looked around, realized he had room, took it the length of the ice, got it over, almost connected on a short-handed chance. Like, he’s been he’s been everything you could possibly ask for right now, especially from a, you know, 3C if you want to call him that, even though he’s like basically their 1C at this point. All right, Charlie, finally, who is tonight’s first star of the game? Yeah, it’s your uh it’s your game changer, Bobby Brink. uh scores the uh scores the power play go to kick off the game. Gets the game winner in the shootout and was just fantastic all the way around. We spent a while talking about Brink, so I’m not going to rehash what we already discussed, but fantastic performance. He’s off to a great start this season. He looks like a faster player, looks like a stronger player. He He’s playing like a more confident player. And I can tell you talking to him in the locker room. He’s talking like a more confident player, too. Like this is a guy who when he first came up was very clearly someone who was still trying to get over a little bit of like being there are some guys who just don’t like the media and that’s fair. Some people just aren’t going to like us. Bobby Bring struck me as someone who like in the beginning of his career was legitimately nervous to talk to the media. Now he’s assertive like he is he is very matterof fact. He’s turned into a really good quote. And I have to think that maybe some of that does manifest itself on the ice. just feeling better about being an NHL player, which means he’s trying more things on the ice, and he’s he’s more confident off the ice, too. So, Bobby Brink, first star of the game. Granted, he he looks like he’s only 16 now, but he looked like he was about 14 years old when he came into the league, so he’s like, I am nervous. I am a child. But it’s uh it is coming together for Bobby Brink for sure. All right, that is Charlie O’ Conor down at the Exfinity Mobile Arena on the Xfinity Mobile call-in line. They got practice tomorrow, Chuck. They do at 12 p.m. I was hoping you’d have an off day. Not a game. Nope. Not a All good. All right, Charlie. I will uh I will talk to you on Thursday then. And that is Philly’s number one hockey beat reporter Charlie O’ Conor. Now we have to take that last break and then get to super chats because we have like 30 of them. Lead it off with our friend Obi-Wan and he says, “Woo!” Could not agree more. Nothing better than beating the Pittsburgh Penguins, especially in weird wild fashion. A few more fights would have been cool, but I’ll take what we got. Deloreia didn’t get a fight. Yeah. All the scrums and stuff and no DLo fight. It’s fight. It’s He’s not allowed to fight so many guys cuz it’s just not fair. It’s just not fair. The Hulk. Who would take that fight? He’s just ragdolling guys like they’re lowkey. You know, it would be bad for someone’s career to fight Nick Deloreier just killed a man. It would be a bad idea for them. All right. From Devin 93 says, “Big stops and weak goals. The same experience. I will only give him any crap for the first one as long as the stops outweigh this the bad goals. We That’s a fine backup. That is a fine backup performance. The second goal hit four different things. I can only be so upset about that. It’s Crosby nonsense. He’s got some sort of I don’t know, Halloween black magic, whatever the hell he does for his 1500 point career. That soul’s going to the devil. That’s all I know. that’s seen him score probably half of his points in some ridiculous fashion like that. Yeah, I’m not gonna I’m not gonna kill him for the Crosby goal. The first one terrible. A very arrison night. If you make more stops than the other goalie and give your team a chance, that’s all I can ask. Especially from what I assume he is the backup. Right. Right. I mean, I think this is a good role for him. This whatever it is with Dan Vadar. And I think as long as neither guy gets too overworked, we could be into something just fine. It would be nice to see like good goalending for a majority of the season. Just fine will do. All right. From JM91, uh, Brink triple Deak to triple Deak to win. Yes, that’s what I said in the moment when it happened. Heck yeah. Torts would have flipped at a second overturn game-winning goal. It is. It’s You could see steam coming out of Tocket’s ears. Torts would have actually exploded. That’s the uh it was at the end of the overtime when they’re explaining all the guys who are who aren’t eligible and you can read Tocket’s lips at the end of the conversation with the one official and he just goes, “Thank you.” And the thank you was very much the like when a cop hands you a ticket. Like that sort of thank you. Like okay, uh thanks. I guess I got to say thanks because you’re in charge. Like that’s what every last ounce of fun out of a fun hockey game. review the heck out of the game-winning goal, overturn it, and then go over excruciating detail on who can play in the shootout and who can’t. Yeah. Uh, all right. Next one here is from uh what’s that say? Andon Burns. And Burns. Uh, breath of fresh air having an having actual shootout weapons. For the longest time, this team kind of scored one way and it was Mike Kenubal. It was Scott Hartnull. It was Wayne Simmons. Yep. Yep. And then like one skill guy to set it all up. Yeah. Like one Giru, one Pierre, and then maybe you can get Mike Richards in there. Like a guy with enough skill to school score some of the time. Now they have legit puck handlers. That’s really what it comes down to. A bunch of guys who don’t just fumble the puck away if they’re in space or if they’re in traffic with the puck on their stick. And that translates to being pretty good on breakaways. And you can even see it with some of the creativity in the offensive zone, like where they’ll bank pucks off of the back boards and try to get it to the front of the net that way. Stuff like that. There’s just more vision, I think, overall with the passing than we’ve ever seen before. And seeing it in the shootout, again, it just feels like a alternate universe. It’s a different game when it goes to a shootout and you’re like, we have the advantage. We have the advantage. the best all-time shootout player and we have a goalie who’s like that made the while I wanted the OT winner for Forester, it made that sting a little less because it’s like if this goes to the shootout, it’s ours. Like they’re going to lose shootouts but probably not that many. All right. Uh let’s see the next one here. It’s from our pal Crayon Owen Tippet goal pace down to 45 and a half. Tip made some plays tonight. This was maybe maybe the game during this start where we’ve been like even when he’s not scoring, he’s doing stuff where we saw him the least. Uh but there was an emphasis on the other two lines. I felt like tonight there there for sure was emphasis on the other two lines. But we still noticed him. We still noticed him using his speed to make plays. It just wasn’t necessarily a big night for him. But overall, I liked Tippet’s game. Yeah, he hasn’t killed you in a while with anything too stupid. Uh, I need him to get back on the score sheet to get that pace back up like Per is saying. Uh, but right now that 30, it’s just nice right now to have all right, you know, Tyson Forester was super hot and he scored the OT winner tonight. Gets taken away. I’m bummed he didn’t get that goal because that was such a pretty shot, Bill. Like he has such a good shot when he gets room. Forester and Tippet were going now. Maybe they’re not quite doing what they were, but Trevor Zaggress is on fire. Bobby Brink is playing really well. We got to believe, you know, TK did have one tonight, so maybe he’s going to get going. Mishkovs for TK. Yeah, Mishkov is right there. So maybe even if it’s not like one guy, this team has enough depth in its top nine to keep the offense rolling along. Depth is the word and it is a glorious thing to have. All right, from K Red. What up, K Red? Uh, Bobby Brink pulled off such a nasty move that it should count as a regular season goal for him. I agree. it was, I think, or at least when they started, I don’t know if it’s still the case, but you get credit for a game-winning goal, even though it’s not an actual goal in your talent. I think if you score the the uh shootout winner, you get that. Or maybe I think it should. I don’t know if that’s still the case, but it was 20 years ago. You know, it’s funny, too. I think the broadcast was talking about how much they hate the slow moves, and there the Flyers go and they have two guys who make killer slow moves. Well, it’s like, yeah, the one wasn’t there for TK. And it’s like, well, I get why you don’t know this because you don’t watch every Flyers game. You’re the National Broadcasters. TK basically only has one move. So, if that goalie has seen any tape of him in a shootout, he’s like, TK is going to try to do one thing. So, it just it wasn’t there because of the slow entry. It wasn’t there because the goalie knew it was coming. It must be working out pretty well for them because their three best shootout guys, Zeus, Mishkov, and Brink, all have super slow moves. Better killer. All right. Uh, next one here is another one from Devin says, “Is Arison’s shootout save percentage better than his actual save percentage?” It is. It’s not quite. Uh, in the last uh going back to 2023 24, he’s been in 13 shootouts. His shootout save percentage is 787. So it’s like within a hundred though. That sounds like photoops last year. That’s not great. It is within 100 points and that’s a little maybe Kasoft. That’s a little off that’s a little off-putting. But uh yeah, I mean he’s just really good in shootouts. You saw his specialty on the uh the first save where guy thinks he’s going to beat him on the move down low and it’s I don’t know why anyone does that to Arison because his legs are so good in that situation. Is I mean he’s a very skilled guy. It’s just about that getting that consistency and his health is what it comes down to. All right, and with that, we got to go to overtime. Go to allphy.com to keep watching. All right, next one here. Another one from Per. He says, uh, Brink is now the proud owner of Shivos’s Sheilov’s. I’m going to be able to say it consistently at some point. Uh, she loves jockstrap. You think he had to turn it over to him or he went over to the locker room to collect? He’s like, give it you. you give me this is my that’s where the confidence you know how this goes you gota he is now the alpha yeah all right now uh one from JH here says tonight was a perfect example of everything wrong uh with the chicken crap BS trash officiating in this league interested to see how many refs get caught up in the betting investigation I just think officiating is really bad because it’s hard and sports were never meant to be seen in slow-mo high definition no Like that’s what it is. It’s it’s a vibes. Officiating is a vibes thing and we’ve turned it into something else and no one’s really prepared for that because it’s like hard to see. I you know how many things I have to watch back to know exactly what happened and I’ve been watching and playing hockey since I was a small child. I It’s just a Especially hockey. It’s so fast. There’s no breaks. You’re just kind of guessing. Sounds like a nightmare to be honest. It really sounds difficult to do. Not they need to be better. Like it is their job. It is their job. I just think like their job isn’t possible. Yeah. Like I don’t think it’s a thing that you can get right consistently. No, it’s it’s an impossible job. I want no part of it. All right. Uh there were some just bad calls against the Flyers. There were some awful calls, especially the missed call and I think it was Kate’s in overtime. There have been games where like people have complained about the refs and I’m like I don’t think it benefited any one team. I just think it was an oddly officiated game. This one I’m like the Flyers got screwed like three times. Yeah. Uh, and even like the overturn goal, like I’m not even counting that. Like, all right, it was offside. It’s a dumb rule, but it was what it was. Well, but I guess you’re technically correct. I guess it’s right. Best kind of just some other things were stupid as hell. All right. Uh, we got one here. This is a DA power play man who’s not allowed to change his name anymore. Uh, I’m starting a petition that we stop booing Crosby. Never. No, I will never stop booing Crosby. Crosby sucks. And he’s gonna play until he’s 60, so we’re never gonna stop booing him. All right. from Tyler Orion. Don’t look now, but the Flyers are tied for first in the league in goals against. Is that true? Do they have the fewest goals against? Uh they had one of the fewest goals against when I looked earlier today. So, uh yeah, that seems almost impossible given where they were a few months ago. I I know it’s it I don’t understand it at all. I’m very scared. Somebody please hold me. es especially given the patchwork nature of what we thought this defense was coming in. Now they’ve gotten York back and Sanheim or and uh Ddale has picked up where he left off. But like you see that third pair and we’re wildly unimpressed with it. Like we kind of thought this defense was going to be horrible and they’ve had some games where they’ve given up a ton of shots, but I got to give it to Carolina though who is notorious for taking every shot. Yeah, they’re the one team in the league that’s still like shoot from everywhere. Yeah. So, I’m looking at it right now and again, who knows how updated this is with uh and 16 games tonight. Who knows how many they’re actually updating. What’s the official term? Frozen fury. Frozen frenzy. Frozen frenzy, not Fury. But, uh yeah, so the Flyers, at least as of what I’m looking at on the NHL standings page, they have 23, Winnipeg has 22, New Jerseyy’s got 22, and Washington has 21. Like Logan Thompson was a finalist last year, right? azna finalist. Um Dan Valdar Vzna finalist. We have the Jets in there who have Connor Hella. Jacob Marstrom and Jay Gallen with the Devils which is a very serviceable tandem. And then the Flyers Dan Voldar and Sams. Let’s go. I’ll take it. All right. Uh next one here from the Green Goblin. What up Green Bobby Brink equals young Matt Reed. Don’t tell Harry. You know that’s a that’s an apt comparison. Young Matt Reed is really already better. Young Matt Reed is a really good checker, a good penalty killer. He scored 20ome goals for the first three years. The one was only like 11 because of the uh lockout, but like he was on pace for over 20. Those first three years of Matt Reed were solid. We do sleep on Meat Reed. It was the It was like what happened after that uh that where it went really downhill, but I think that’s a decent comparison. The ceiling much higher though. like he’s trending up whereas at this point Matt Reed it was all like all right he’s a nice that’s a hell of a hell of an undrafted find but yeah we need someone better than him probably playing with Shan Couttori all right uh next one here is from WTBA uh Flyers are now kings in the shootout yeah I they are they are excellent at the shootout right now weird and it’s I’ll never get comfortable very odd they’ve had like two seasons in the past where they’ve had a winning record in the shootout and now it’s like can They lose. It used to be death, taxes, Flyers lose in the shootout. Just like give the other team the two points. I want these 10 minutes of my life back. Come on. Uh, all right. Next one here. Another one from JH. Zris is home. Maybe all it took was coming to the East Coast. He needed some seasons, baby. He said he hated it out there. Like it’s just sun 24/7. It’s too nice. You need these. East coast weather builds character. Yeah. That’s why we wear track jackets. Yeah. You’re just you’re just soulless out there. Like, oh, it’s just nice all the time. Oh, it’s just perfect. You’re so You’re supposed There’s no humidity. So, you’re supposed to be in a good mood. What if you’re not and it’s sunny outside? I don’t want a jog. That’s weird. Like, you’re in a bad mood, but it’s sunny outside. Ride my bike on the beach. Who would want that? All right. Next one here from Gary B. Uh, eat a D. Crosby. Uh, sports hate. I sports hate you, Sid. Yeah. I mean, how can you not? How can you not sports hate Sydney Crosby if you’re Flyers fanatable characters? 20 years of just abusing us. 135 points, Bill. Yeah, you know, it’s just insane. That’s an insane total. All right, JH here. Uh, my man after being down on Harrison the whole season. Uh, # OG Parson. Listen, I I believe he could be a very good backup goalie. I still don’t think he’s got the stuff for a start, but the the the the the my man was uh that was facitious. Yes. Uh all right. From uh this one from Michael Kowick, I think that says uh just me or was there zero emotion until the fight after the shootout. No Crosby sucks chance. Uh closeouts of one and two periods deserve larger cheers. I couldn’t hear the uh audience all that well on the broadcast. Um, I feel like you need to get the report from somebody who was the rink sounds are always super high on ESPN because when like the goalie puck’s coming down ice and you hear like was that like a puck off the post, I start thinking the broadcast audio is just way off and it’s really just like goalie checks his post and the rink sounds are so loud so maybe they have that up and the sound down, but I couldn’t tell. It did sound they got loud at times, but the ESPN broadcast was also very weird audio-wise. Uh, it was weird in general. Split screen, baby. All right, another one here from Michael. Uh, was it just me or did the crowd stink tonight? Uh, 6 p p.m. Yeah, it stinks. But this is the Penguins. No crowd. I didn’t I didn’t notice if there were any Crosby sucks chants or not. Uh, but it did feel like there was plenty of emotion on the ice even if it wasn’t in the stands. Yeah. All right. Uh, this one is Marcus Dudley. Uh what are the chances we go 500? Go Flyers. I mean significant. They’re I mean they’re over 500. They came in a game over 500 and they are now two with still their potentially most talented player only has two points in nine games. I have said this from the beginning of the season, Bill. I feel like this team has a wild range of where they could fall. They’re either going to sneak into the playoffs or they could end up being one of the four worst teams in the league again. And it really feels like they could fall anywhere in between, which includes 500. I think from what we’re seeing now, and listen, goending is weird. It would take a significant goalending injury to be in the bottom five. I feel good about what I have seen so far. I’m just going to leave it at that because if I get my expectations up too high, that’s how you get hurt. I am cupper bust right now. Uh, all right. We got one here from David Shub. Uh, fired up too, Chuck. Tell Adam S to go troll to go troll pen fans. That’s funny. All right. Uh, next one from David. Uh, feel like we could have won in regulation if we didn’t shoot so many shots into the goalie’s chest. We look very dangerous tonight. Just need some finish. And yeah, there were some also there were also some really good saves. Uh, there was the one on Meech and then going the other way. I think it was Forester had the same chance. Went from right to left and couldn’t bury it. Like there was just some really good saves. You got to give it to the other goalie sometimes. Yeah, I thought he had a great game. All right, justified EDC. Uh, generational talent. Robert Brink wins again. Listen, if some of these like second round guys end up being first round value players, that’s that’s really good. That’s really good stuff. All right, I love Bobby Brink. I’m all on board at this point. Yeah, pro Bobby Brink. I have a friend who who was on the coaching staff at Denver at one point and like just loves the kid so much. I mean, he How are you going to deny what you’ve seen so far? The speed. I think he’s definitely leveled up as far as smarts go. I mean, he’s been awesome. All right, couple more here from David. The first one, uh, phone up Robert Zomber. Tell him to make bullies. They’re not going to let him. Robert, they he’s not allowed. He’s not allowed. Yeah, he didn’t buy the rights for no reason. I I am always wildly curious about what this would have looked like cuz Rob Zombie’s movies have a very distinctive quality. He said he wanted a cross between Rocky and Boogie Knights. Oh, and I just think there’s a whole lot of stuff that he wanted to portray at Rexies that the NHL was like, “No.” Oh, you don’t say no. The man made the Devil’s Rejects would want to show some messed up stuff. All right. And finally from David to wrap things up, pair of track jackets, soprano characters for uh Yeah, that’s that’s us. We’re Listen, it’s track jacket weather. That’s just the way it goes. And these are, you know, this is a Flyers track, bud. Come on. Yeah. That’s what it’s made for. The Philadelphia Flyers mostly outplayed the Pittsburgh Penguins, who’d won 7 of their first 10 entering tonight. Bobby Brink stood out with a multi-point night, as did the team’s speed and possession overall. Unfortunately, Sidney Crosby got a Crosby Bounce in the third to tie the game and we got sent to OT because of a strong effort from Artus Silovs, and some typical Crosby nonsense.
Bill, Steve & Charlie discuss the game, Sam Ersson’s season, Trevor Zegras’ hot streak, and some really questionable officiating.

Mm I need point
Looking like an amazing team this year.
I think if you get the GWG in shootout SHOULD count as a goal
Wish this team would really get out of their own way and just suck again. We still need some more elite pieces.
This team is playing some solid hockey. They have a good mix of players, and I like the spread of talent at forward.
Even though Z is not known for fistacuffs, I absolutely love LOVE his passion at the end of OT, esp against their most hated rival!!! That's Philly heart thru & thru!!! Keep playing like that I am sure he'll be in the O&B for the next decade!!!
