Philadelphia Flyers TRADE Samu Tuomaala to Dallas Stars for Christian Kyrou

The Flyers have traded Samu Tuamala to the Dallas Stars organization for defenseman Christian Kyu. Uh Samu Tumala second round pick in 2021 which is just a really weird draft. Um there wasn’t a ton of in-person scouting that year and it very much shows. The Flyers just punted on it. They traded their first round pick that year for Rasmus versus Stalin. Tuamala was their first pick in that 2021 draft and he just fell down the depth chart. He’s only played in three of the uh three of the eight games the Phantoms have played so far this year. And you look at what the Flyers have in the organization. Mishkov’s a winger. TK’s not going anywhere. You see Forester and Kates, uh you see Forester and Brink, they’re off to really good starts. They’re wingers. Yeah, you see Owen Tippet signed long term in the AHL. You Alex Bump and Denver Barky have joined the team. Porter Martone is in college. There’s just not a ton of room at Wing and Tua just really never broke out with this team. Uh his first year with the Phantoms, 15 goals, 43 points in 69 games. You’re like, “All right, might be something here.” Last season, 11 goals, 32 points in 46 games. and this year he hadn’t recorded a point in three games. You just never got that big pop uh you were hoping for from a second round pick playing in the uh playing in the minors. You saw if you uh watched the Ottawa game a couple of nights ago. Ula Lexel moved on from the organization and he’s with the Ottawa Senators now. It’s kind of just that wave of prospects they’re moving on from to make room for the new guys. There’s going to be even more joining over the next couple of years. And listen, they brought in a uh a young defenseman. Kyru is 22 years old. He’s a right shot Dman. He was a 2022 second rounder, so he’s a year younger than uh than to Amala was. He is in fact Jordan Kyu’s brother. He scored a little with the Texas Stars. That’s Dallas’s AHL affiliate. Uh but he put up 96 points in his final 95 games with OHL’s uh the Eerie Otter. So maybe there’s a little bit of potential uh to pick up some points uh play on the power play a bit, but really what this makes me wonder is about Emil Andre. Uh Emil Andre got called up the other night. We weren’t sure like, okay, Sanheim missed a practice. Maybe it was a game time decision. We’ll see. But Sanheim takes warm-ups. Emil Andre does not play. It’s like, oh, I wonder if he’s going to be sent down. Now, I’m thinking this is Andre’s placement replacement in the AHL and perhaps he’s in the NHL to stay. He might not play every single game. We’ll see how they work that out. But as they’ve uh you know shuffled Adam Yining and Jaor Zamula on that third pair uh left side, why not give your most dynamic of those players a a fair chance in the NHL to maybe pick up some points on a second power play unit or do something uh as you got to find out. At a certain point, you just need to give these guys a shot and see how it goes. And listen, if they don’t live up to your expectations, it’s like you just did with Samu Tumala. You move on. You figure it out. You replace them with somebody else. But that I think is the uh my biggest takeaway from this trade is maybe this means Emil Andre is in the NHL to stay for the time being and they replaced him on the Phantoms with Christian Kyru.
