Jack Eichel Joins ESPN’s Frozen Frenzy Coverage
Vegas Golden Knights tonight in Raleigh. John Butcheros, Kevin Weekes, third annual Frozen Frenzy. Jack Eel, two goals and an assist tonight for Vegas as they go in and beat the Carolina Hurricanes. And Jack joins us now. Happy birthday, Jack. Your 29th. Thank you. Yeah, thank you. And this is also Jack. I don’t know. I was hired at ESPN. October 28th, 1996 was my first day. The day you were Yeah. And the day the day I was born. I just discovered that tonight. And you know, what a day, Butchie. I know. What a one of the best days ever, right? What a day. And what a night for you and and uh Raleigh. What was it like? What was the game like there? The temperature was kind of high. There were some confrontations. They’re really good. They always start on time, right? And they start on time tonight. How do you fight back in a game like that? Yeah, they always start on time. I mean, um they’re a really hard team to play against, especially in this building. uh they put a lot of pressure on you and um you know they they had a good start again tonight but yeah it was big for us to you know push back at times and um you know obviously they got the lead there in the third but uh it’s a huge goal by Howie to tie it up and then uh yeah I mean it was it was a huge uh you know third period finding a way to to win in regulation and um tons of credit to the guys. Jack, you’re absolutely flying this year. We’re talking about you as league MVP candidate just based on how dominant you’ve been. you’re shooting the puck more. Buchi noticed that. Do you feel like you’re making a conscious effort to fire the biscuit a little bit more so far this season? Um, yeah, I guess you could say that. I think it’s important to uh, you know, I think it’s important to try and shoot when you can and um, you know, you know, sometimes if it’s not going in, it leads to good opportunities for your teammates. So, just trying to uh, simplify at times and uh, get pucks to the net. But um you know it’s benefactor of playing with some really good players and and you know even on that second goal I mean what a play by Barbie. I’m kind of just standing in front and get an empty net. So um it was great. It was a great uh great way to cap off this road trip. Uh we struggled in the first two games but um you know it was big for us to get in here and get two points before heading home. Again you’re 29 now. As you as you’ve you know embarked on this professional hockey career. What’s the one or two things off the ice you’ve learned uh here now in your late 20s that has helped you the most on the ice? Whether it’s training, whether it’s some particular thing that’s really helped you kind of get in a groove. Okay, this is my routine now and this is how I can perform the best. I think it’s just consistency. Um like you said, I think I’ve found a a routine that works for me and um you know, the things I do away from the ring to try and prepare to play and uh it’s just about being consistent. I don’t think there’s really a magic formula and um you know everyone has different things that help them be successful on the ice and um you know for me it’s just about doing it day in and day out and um you know tons of credit for the people around here the you know the staff everyone that uh helps you prepare for for games and um I think that’s just kind of what I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older. Um it’s a tough league and you want to try and be your best every night. Zack, what about the shooting device in the garage? Tell us a little I like that. You’re trying to keep it undercover, but I I have to unveil it for the goal union. What are you doing with that? Uh yeah, it’s a rapid shot. I guess a little shout out to them. But um yeah, it’s a cool it’s a cool shooting device. Passes pucks out to you. Targets light up and um yeah, it’s nice to get in there and get some reps if if you’re away from the ring for a day or um you know, you want to work on something. So, uh, it’s been a nice tool and, you know, uh, very thankful for them to to have put that in my garage and, um, yeah, it’s nice to have that at home. It’s working. Well, uh, you got a bus to catch. You get to fly home tonight. Get a couple of days off. October 28th, 1996. Say it with me, Jack. Best day ever. It was a great day. It was uh, Butchie joined ESPN. What a day, huh? So, for now, I was born. So for now on every October 28th I text you happy birthday and you text me happy anniversary. Okay. Absolutely. Good night. Thank you. All right. We eat butchery. Thank you. Jack joins us.
