2025 World Series: John Schneider reacts to Blue Jays’ Game 7 loss and ‘hard-fought’ World Series

[Music] Hey, John. Um, where’s your head at right now? How are you feeling, man? Um, it’s hard, you know. Um, had my first team meeting of the year after the game. Um, there’s so many things to unpack there. Um, not just the series as a whole. Uh, you know, seven games, two of them go to extras. Um, I thought we played great baseball. Um, both teams having chances there late. Uh, I feel for the guys, you know what I mean? This is a special group of guys. Um, that being said, I am so proud of them. Um, of the entire organization really, you know what I mean? That’s kind of where I’m at. It’s we’ve we’ve set a new expectation and a new standard here and uh did it with a lot of hard work. Did it with a lot of um cohesiveness and man it’s just it’s tough to say say bye to this group. This feels like a team that we’ll be asking you about 101 15 years from now too. When when I ask you about the 2025 Blue Jays, what are you going to remember? All of them. You know what I mean? Like literally all of them. Um, it’s not very often you get a group together that genuinely likes one another and genuinely cares about one another. And I’m talking about their wives, their kids, you know, and and them. Um, it’s a special group. And I think Blue Jay fans for, you know, for generations are going to remember this team. Um, not just what we accomplished, but how we went about it. Going to shy straight ahead. John, you said you held your first team meeting. What did you want to say to your players? I I said thank you. I said thank you probably about 10 times. Um and that that was the main message, you know. Um I’m I’m I’m sure I’m going to talk to them all again, but um I I said thank you. I said um I’m sorry that we’re feeling this way right now. Um it definitely could have been the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of emotions. So I I said thank you. Um and it and this is a group that I’m never going to forget. They’re going to have a place in in my heart. Um every single one of them. So uh that was that was the gist of it. John, with all the good things that have happened this year and all the things you mentioned to to be proud of, how does that ending impact the feeling that this group may leave with? Um it’ll hurt for it’ll hurt for a few days, a few weeks. Um when you’re that close, you know, um the positive person in me will take some time to digest it and and I’ll go back to Bose Homer in Texas, George’s Canada Day. Um so many things I’ll go back to and and be proud of. But I think right now you just you just have to kind of I don’t know take in what happened, you know what I mean? Um but going forward, you know, the the beauty of baseball is that it it goes on, you know, it it’ll there’ll be spring training in February. So, um, that being said, you you take you take away the sacrifices the guys made, the way they went about it, the performances everyone had, and and kind of just the cohesiveness of the team. And Bo with that swing, he essentially had his signature moment, even though it did end up a win. Just what was your view on Bo, and what was your feeling for Bo having that moment? Uh that was that was right up there with George’s homer against Seattle. You know, for a guy that has been um a staple of this team for the past six or seven years. Um to have Vlad intentional intentionally walked and then he went dead center on the first pitch. Um it was so fitting, you know, it felt right at the time. And in terms of Bo, what he did this year is nothing short of amazing. What he did to get back is nothing short of amazing. and he’s playing on one leg. Um, so in the moment it felt right, you know what I mean? And you know, for guys like him, George, um, Barge Kirky, you know, guys that have been here, um, you know, I feel for them because they deserve they deserve to be on the stage right now. Go ahead. Mike straight ahead. Hey John, when when you look back at this game, do you see it as a couple of heavyweights going at it back and forth or do you see it as you guys had all the chances that that you wanted to have to win it? A little bit of both. I thought we um had had chances to to sweep them, you know. I I thought that we we played our game and our game is as good as anybody in baseball. So, is it two heavyweights going back and forth? You know, going back to the beginning of this series when people were calling it David versus Goliath, it’s not even [ __ ] close. Um, so they’re good. Um, I put this group of guys against any other 26 players in the entire planet. Um, yeah, we had our chances. We had our chances to to beat them soundly, you know, and and we didn’t, and that’s baseball. When you had opportunities both last night and tonight with the guys you want up in those situations, you want Ernie up with second and third and nobody out. You want Kirk up when you need contact. How does that feel in the dugout when you’re when you’re going in in those spots? You like it. You know what I mean? you just want you want the game to be decided by the players and I think that throughout this series it was and um we came up short, you know what I mean? It’s I’ll relive those bases loaded at bats for a long time. Um but man um you I I tr I’ve said it so many times, I trust everyone on this roster and um you know, you want to let them decide the outcome of the World Series. you know, that was that was an epic World Series, you know what I mean? Um, for a variety of different reasons. So, at the end of the day, you know, players, they can become legends or they can be this close, you know what I mean? And we were this close. And, you know, I’m just proud that we went about it the right way. Do a couple more. John in the second row on your right. Hey, John. Um, what did you think of Max Scherzer’s performance tonight? I thought Max was really good. I thought he was, you know, exactly what we thought he would be um in a big game. And it’s uh it’s a testament to him, man. He’s 41 years old. He’s throwing 96. He’s making pitches. Um I thought he was awesome. You know, in games like this, you know, you try to usually think starts going to be short, you know what I mean? But there’s no one I trusted more than Max in that situation. You know, bottom of the order. and um I thought he handled everything extremely well and he gave us exactly what we needed. Do you think tonight was his last game in Major League Baseball? I don’t know. Um I wouldn’t I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t. Go straight back near the cameras. John, to to win a championship, you have to perform, but you also need a little bit of luck. It seemed as though a a lot of the bad breaks went against you guys balling the fence and losing a game in 18. And tonight you get two hard hit balls to infielders that don’t go through. Couple of also close calls on strikes and balls there at the end that don’t go your way. You feel like there was a little bit of lack of luck on your side? Yeah. I mean to be the last team standing, a lot of things have to happen. You have to perform. You have to make good decisions. You have to make plays. You know, I think that’s why it hurts so much. um him hitting the ball to I mean I I don’t know how my caught that. Um Izzy just not getting there and Will almost coming off the plate. Um we played we played so good defensively too. Double play from Vlad V’s catch. Um yeah man I in order there’s a lot of stuff that has to happen in order to win it. You know what I mean? And we did everything that we needed to do it felt like. So, I think that’s why things, you know, just a little bit more. Take two last ones. Sixth row on your left. John, um, how would you describe the Dodgers as a team talented? One more for John. We’ll finish up with Mike. John, can I ask you about Vlad? I mean, today he had the one hit, but it came in on the double in the 11th. He makes three terrific defensive plays. if this game had gone the other way, he’s probably the World Series MVP. What What you know, what did you see from him tonight? Exactly what we saw the entire postseason. Vlad um Vladimir took his game to another level and I think for players that are here and that are going to be here and that are going to be here in the future, knowing that we got 14 more years of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. playing complete baseball um is an awesome thing for our team and for our fans. And Ernie sets the record with 30 hits in the postseason. And you know, in in the first round, one of the TV commentators said, “Nobody’s ever heard of this guy. You’ve watched him for a couple of years.” Um what did you think of his his postseason and his game tonight? Historic, you know, it it’s you don’t see that very often. You know, we’re talking about really good pitchers, right-handers, left-handers. Um Ernie had a phenomenal year. Um I hope he wins a gold glove. He should. And he kind of became um one of the faces of our team because of the way he plays. Um unbelievable run that he was on this entire postseason. And um man, he he’s turned himself into what people think was a a waiverwire pickup or a guy that’s, you know, kicked around the minors. He’s turned himself into a everyday major leager. um that is going to contribute to win a world championship. All right, John, just an incredible postseason for the AL champs. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. And I don’t want to leave without saying congratulations to Dave and the Dodgers. Um it’s a hardfought uh series. Um you know, and it sucks when you’re not the last team standing, but to to Dave and his staff and his team, um congratulations. Oh, incredible World Series. You should be so proud, John. Thanks.

  1. Losing on the biggest stage is crushing. But Toronto played their hearts out. They deserve all the accolades for their performance, and should keep their heads high. I don’t even like baseball, and I was glued to this series.

  2. These teams were about as evenly matched as you could get. Best World Series I've ever seen. I'm a Yankees fan and wanted the Blue Jays to lose just because they knocked the Yanks out, but after seeing how strong of a team they were and how great of a coach Schneider is, I've got tons of respect for this team. I think they actually were a slightly better team than the Dodgers overall, but barely. I think it was Yamamoto who was the kingpin in carrying the Dodgers over the line.

  3. At what point were they ever in a position to beat them "soundly?" Guy is delusional. Dodgers gave the Blue Jays respect how about you do the same. This is why the Blue Jays and their fans are an unlikable organization

  4. The Dodgers didnt want an 18th inning again… Put in Yamamoto and done the game!!!!🎉 Take Yamamoto out… Jays would have won!!! Or we would have another game 3!!!!

  5. The Dodgers and Jays gave us the most thrilling sporting event of all sports. As a Canadian this brought back fond memories of the first Canada Russia hockey series, the thrills then haven't been equaled until this great World Series. Fans won on this series world wide. Deep respect for the Dodgers and Jays, love to see a rematch next year!

  6. The Blue Jays might have lost by only one point the 2025 season, but they gave us great entertainment until November… How great was that!!!!! Thank you Jays for a superb year… And don't forget to finally sign Bo.

  7. I agree with all these comments but the elephant in the room is Giminez cheating a HBP. Then when he gets hit he cries. That is not class. That’s Bush-league. Otherwise great game!

  8. Real quick, great example on how to accept a tough loss but what I really want to say is

Even though the Dodgers won, people will see this Blue Jays team as champions too. If there was ever a reason for "Co-Champions", i would pick this game in a heartbeat. But unfortunately there has to be a losing team. That was THE greatest baseball game I have ever seen, especially for a World Series. I really hope the Blue Jays get treated as champions too. Sincerely, a dodgers fan.

  9. I’m a dodger fan my respects to blue jays.i love my dodgers of course I wanted back to back and potentially 3 peat..I know soon blue jays will become World Series champs they deserve it

  10. I'm so sick of the Dodgers they just keep buying championships, but the only good news is Betts and Freeman are getting older but I am sure the Dodgers will just go out and sign that Japanese 3rd baseman this off-season and just reset because they have a monopoly on Japanese players because of Ohtani. Oh, and yeah, I am a Phillies fan, by the way, so yeah, I have extra incentive to hate that damn team.

  11. wondering why he did not wait to game 7 to use Gausman . Dodgers scored 3 runs in game 6. Jays scored 4 in game 7
Also, Gausman on an extra day rest. Dodgers had no choice but had to use Yamamoto in game 6 for a reason.
No rhyme in baseball but it does make for an iconic story line and embedded with history.

  12. You can't have it both ways. When Snell mentioned he was a bit unlucky on a few hits/plays, people were disregarding him like luck didn't exist or has nothing to do with anything including Schneider. But now that a reporter brings it up, it sounds like he agrees with luck being involved.

  13. Tough loss!!! They played a great series! I thought Springer was the MVP, but it's hard to give the award to a player on the losing team. They will be back next year, and they will remember this feeling!

  14. This series was the first time I learned about this manager and I like this guy and thinks he’s a class act and a great manager. He will be back. He had the better team in this series but the Dodgers just played a little better in the clutch moments that got them the W. Tough losing that way.
Lots of respect for the Blue Jays except for the fans that chanted we don’t need you to Shohei and the player who tried to get beaned and then got cocky to the pitcher when he did causing the benches to clear.

  15. Man up and tip your cap. You weren't about to sweep anyone. You lost the series in every way. You were out managed, your guys couldn't run the bases and they couldn't get the big hit when it mattered. You sound bitter and come off as a petty overzealous little league coach. Walk it off and learn some humility so you can teach it to your players who like to celebrate too early and too often. Hope it stings for a long time.

  16. I still say 1986, but I'm a Mets fan, so take that with a grain of salt. But this was an epic WS and both teams should be proud. They both played excellent baseball and both teams deserved the win, but obviously only 1 team gets it. I have a new appreciation for John Schneider and what a class act he is. This was probably the first time that two of the classiest managers faced each other in the WS.
