Detroit Lions players meet with the media | 2025 NFL Regular Season Week 11: Lions at Eagles

How do you sum this one up from an offensive standpoint? Was it something you guys did to yourself or they did to you or how much of it was a combination of both? Um, you know, I think a lot of it was us. I mean, they’re a good defense. They’re a good team. Um, but I feel like there’s plays that, you know, we could have wish we could have had back. Um, but they played well. Um, but we definitely could have could have played a lot better. two targets, I’m sorry, 12 targets, two catches for you. Really uncharacteristic. At least half of those were on third and fourth down. What was the difference in those plays? It felt almost as if maybe you and Jared were not quite on the same page a little bit tonight. Yeah. Um I mean, you have those games. Um but I think, you know, when it mattered most, we had plays there was plays to be had and we didn’t make them. Um some plays got batted down. There’s a lot of lot of different stuff that happened. Um but at the end of the day, Manders, we were in the game. We we had a chance to win it. Um we just, you know, we came short. To go 0 for five on fourth down, though. I mean, you guys, that’s been your calling card for so long here in Detroit. Is that shocking in any way that you guys didn’t even pick up one of those five? Yeah, we definitely want to be better than 0 for five. Um you know, we we pride ourselves on when we do go go for it. Um you know, we want to convert every time. Um that wasn’t the case today. So, we got to, you know, we got to get better, which we will be. I’m not too concerned um with the guys that we have in this locker room, the coaches. Um we’ll be just fine. So, uh just get back get back to work. Um watch the tape, correct it, make sure we just don’t make the same mistakes because I mean that’s a good team. That’s a team that, you know, won the Super Bowl last year. Um they got a good defense. So, I mean, one of the best teams. So, we got to um if we want to go, you know, do big things this year, we got to beat teams like that. You know, you talked about this game a little bit being a measuring stick coming in, but if you guys don’t play up to your standard in the game, you know, you’re capable of. Does it feel like it doesn’t really tell you as much in the loss as as people might expect? Uh, I mean, at the end of the day, we still lost. Um, however you want to look at it, feel like, you know, every team when they when they lose, most of the time they’re going to say it was on them. They could have done better. Um, but, you know, it was a close game. It was close to the end. I feel like there definitely was plays that we left out there as an offense. I think defense played great. They played their they played their tails off. Um I mean watching them go out there. I mean they ball. So um but as an offense we you know we definitely left some plays out there. They they made some good plays too on defense. Um credit to them. Um but we can for sure be a lot better. Just walking around on the field pregame the wind was really blowing. I mean did that have any impact on the way you guys wanted to operate the offense today? Um not really. No, I wouldn’t. You know, win is not an excuse. Um the ball does move around a little, but that’s not an excuse. We were still able to throw it. We still threw it. They still threw it. Um so yeah, that’s defin that’s no no excuse to see this one get away. It sucks. It really does. It’s um it’s one where defensively we really felt like we had control of the game the whole time. And um even even ball was put on the 50 yardd line a few times, you know, and and we were able to uh get really critical stops in in those scenarios. So in terms of uh how we responded to adversity today is uh is really something something to build on for sure. And especially when you guys talk about I know that Dan said at the beginning of this year, the schedule is what the schedule is. We’ll go anywhere anytime and and match up against anyone. How much did you guys learn about yourselves and just where you are in competing with the team that won the Super Bowl last year? Yeah, you know, I didn’t think there was ever any doubt in our team and going into this game. I thought we were all very confident and was kind of a defensive game and one where, you know, we really just got to limit points as much as we can and it’s kind of one of those games. The tush push, you guys actually defended fairly well and got them to false start a couple of times. What is that? What does that play like when you line up and know what’s coming? That’s huge. I mean, that’s a credit to um the big guys. I got in there on one, so I can say I I was a part of it, but um that’s a credit to DJ Alm Roy um and Tyreek, you know. So, it’s like and our linebackers going over the o over the top. So, it’s really um I I mean I was watching it from the sideline and it was damn impressive watching them uh do what they did. Final question from me. Two now at home. You guys know how to bounce back quite well. Just give me a sense of how this sets up knowing you’ve got some big games right around the corner. Yeah, again, you know, we’re what are we six and four now? Mhm. I think um obviously not ideal going into it, but I I know we’re going to we’re going to dig our way out of this and we are close. Um just winning as a team every week, you know, and um I know I know Dan Dan will have us ready. Wow, that defensive performance DB was was really incredible. just talk to me about how you guys were able to do what you did against Saquon and and holding them to just over 200 yards. I think that we just got a bunch of people who want to get the job done. Um I think that coach Shepher put us in a great position this week to to be able to go out there and execute that. Uh we knew going in the game they had explosive offense. We had to just eliminate the explosive eliminate what they what they wanted to do and I think we we went out there and did that. I mean still got to limit points, you know, we preach that all the time. I mean at the end of the day they have to have less points than us. Um and as a defensive of of job that’s our job to do that. So um and you know it’s you know performance was was all right but it’s a lot of stuff that we can correct as a defense and we will do that and you know I just feel like the sky’s is the limit for us and you know most importantly is getting a win and we didn’t do that. So uh whatever we need to do as a defensive unit to make sure that happen you know we we’ll correct that come uh come next week for sure. So, how impressive is it to you that this defense just keeps getting better even with the pieces and the guys that aren’t available to you? I mean, I just think, like I said, it’s just a bunch of guys around who want to get the job done. Uh, put the work in week in and week out. Um, the chemistry. I mean, now it’s we got to the point to where a lot of guys been around each other for, you know, multiple years. Uh, which is good. And, man, I think that when you look to your left and your right, you know, you got a guy that’s going to go out there and give it all, give his all for you. I mean, it just motivates you even more. And I think that’s what we got, you know, out there on the field. And I think that we just depth wise, we’re deep. A lot of guys come in there and there’s no drop off, which I love about this this, you know, we have the same expectations for and standards for people who come in there, like I said a couple weeks ago, whether they in here, been here for a week, been here, got here yesterday, uh the standards are standard and, uh, and the guys come in there and do an incredible job. And, you know, it’s it’s amazing to see us to see us keep progressing and getting getting better. So, some of that start from the Dline and getting those big guys back and what they’re doing to the run to the run game. Uh 100%. I mean I mean I mean when you add a guy like a lean back to addition it just know it shows. Um I mean having Tyreek out there DJ Reer um man it’s Hutch and then a bunch of all the Dline will come in there and they do a phenomenal job. Uh and it makes it makes a huge difference. No, no doubt about that. I’m just super excited that you know we have have those pieces for sure. So I know six and four isn’t where you wanted to be and Hutch said it’s a little bit of a hole but we’ll dig ourselves out. You guys now have three games at home. How confident are you in this team’s ability just to flush this one and move forward? I mean I mean Dan said it. I mean if we can go out and hold a team like that who supposedly one of the best in the league to 16 points. I mean that just shows you what it is right there. Um I mean we always get back on track. We always go back to the drawing board. We always go back to work each and every week no matter what the outcome is. Uh so I’m not concerned about about that at all. I know what what we’re about and we know we’re about and I know what what is to come and you know we’re going to keep striving and and the goal is still the goal. So, call especially surprising given it feels like they were letting both sides play a little bit throughout. Um, yeah, but again, you know, um, AJ Brown really good player, all pro player. Um, you know, he sometimes, you know, those kind of players get those kind of calls, you know what I mean? So, and it is what it is. I got to do a better job. Got to do a better job. I’m sorry. Did any official give you an explanation of what they saw was a reason for that call? No, I didn’t I didn’t ask for one. I mean, I let them do my job. I let them do their job. I try to do my job. So, I mean, it is what it is. You guys were short-handed tonight on defense, but so many guys stepped up again as they have time and time again this year. I mean, just can you speak about what you guys were able to do defensively? It goes back to like um what we preached, you know, OTAAS to camp, you know, and now during the season just holding the line like it doesn’t matter who’s out there, you know, the standard is the standard. We go out there, we compete, we go out there and compete, you know, at the highest level and, you know, we try to, you know, help our teams win games. How many positives can you take away from from a game like this? a team that just went to the Super Bowl and you hold them to 16 points. Just, you know, um that’s a that’s a good team, you know, and um we went out there, we fought to the end, you know, from the from the first snap to the last whistle. Um we executed, came up short, you know, we’ll learn from it and continue to get better. Talk about battling. That was a battle out there. You guys knew it was going to be a tough one. Just give me a sense of what is so tough about that defensive front you guys just faced. Uh their personnel is really good. Um they’re not necessarily an overly complicated defense, but they have really good players and they can roll them through too. They have, you know, one deep, two deep is all they’re all they’re all good players. Um so yeah, we just uh I’m I’m going to need to watch the film like truthfully watch the film on this one because it just felt like Yeah, we were just kind of trudging through everything. It was it was very difficult. So credit to them. What was the game plan coming into tonight? But I know that Dan always kind of sets the tone for the week of how you guys are going to attack a team. Um, I mean, I think for us in general, we want to establish the run and hit play action passes. Um, try to get try to get them out of too high. Um, and then take our shots when we can, mix up personnels. Um, and we were doing that as far as the play calls, but we just weren’t getting the yards we needed to stay ahead of the chains. It felt like there was a lot of success running to the outside, passing to the outside. Was there a reason you guys had to get away from that? Um, I honestly don’t know the answer to that. Yeah, I I don’t have an answer for that one. Give me a sense, too. Was the wind a factor at all? 10 passes deflected, five of those at the defensive line? Um, as far as at the at the defensive line, no. I mean, that’s just they’re getting their hands up and we got to keep our hands on them as as a Dline. I mean, they just did a good job of if they were um, you know, kind of kind of locked down on their rush, then they would just get their hands up. Um, as far as down the field, I that’s that’s a Jared question or a receivers’s question. Um, I don’t really know. You guys live and die by third down, fourth down, especially going for it on fourth down, 0 for five on fourth down tonight. How frustrating is that? Yeah, that’s not the brand of ball that we play. I mean, we we go for those all the time because we have the personnel and we should be able to execute and get those and we dent it. Um, and we put our defense in a lot of tough positions and give those guys credit on defense, they they play a hell of a game. Um, and and we need to do a lot more on offense to help them out. Every game is different. Every opponent is different, but after what you guys and how efficient you guys were last week, was it kind of surprising tonight that you guys were trudging through it a little bit? Yeah, we expected to play much better. Um, we thought we matched up really well with them. Um, and ultimately we just didn’t get the results that we um were hoping

  1. OL was absolute TRASH; literally ALL of them. Sewell officially calls Phillips DADDY. Goff needs to learn that St. Brown isnโ€™t the only receiver on the field. St. Brown with more drops than catches lately. Play calling was horrendous; quit running way too soon.

  2. Goff kept throwing in the dirt! He always tells everyone where heโ€™s gonna throw the ball and doesnโ€™t look at others open. He needs time though or just learn to run dammit.

  3. I still love the Lions. Goff has done a lot of winning here in Detroit. Its been obvious since LA that he goes full rookie under pressure, that's why they shipped him here. But, when our O keeps a clean pocket, this team is almost unbeatable, with Goff. What I love about these interviews is that shows what a class act these guys are. No finger pointing, no crying about bad calls. These guys are tough, pros all the way. I'd would like to see Knuckles in there when we need a power run to push a D back for a couple yards. Go Lions!

  5. St Clown talking all offseason just to produce 2 catches off 12 targets ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ’€. Say it with me. No you wouldnโ€™t have beaten the eagles last year. Donโ€™t ever disrespect this team again. Now youโ€™re humbled keep it that way. Goooo birds DH! ๐Ÿฆ…

  6. As an Eagles fan, Iโ€™m glad Lions donโ€™t have Stafford. McVay had a loaded team and felt Goff couldnโ€™t get them a Lombardi. Lions are definitely contenders thoughโ€ฆa lot of talent on that roster.

  7. Brad Holmes and Campbell should be on the hot seat. Between the moves(or lack there of) during the draft, free agency and the trade deadline to now being out of the playoffs is an absolute failure. The signs are there that last season may have been their peak and it may be time to bring in people who wonโ€™t coast by with this roster and actually try to improve it.

  8. Talked all that trash and lost ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ go birds!!:๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ…Be careful what you wish for St. Brown. ๐Ÿ˜Ž We beat them when our offense was horrible but the defense was extraordinary. ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

  9. Quinyonimo bay is 24 hrs told ya hahaha I do mess with St brown but 24 we open ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
