Habs make SNEAKY perfect signing…

The Montreal Canadiens just made a sneaky perfect signing after Frenchman Alexander Texier’s contract was just terminated by the St. Louis Blues. He is now officially signed with Montreal through the end of the season. And this sends a very clear message as to what Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton and the rest of the Habs are looking to do with injured players right now in the playoff hunt. So many other things. We’re going to break down the context what this means for the Habs right now and going forward. All coming up. And hey, if you want the latest news like this, don’t forget we’re almost at 24,000 subscribers and we have the fastest videos on this kind of stuff. And just to give some context here, Jesse, the Blues terminated the contract of Alexandier earlier. Elliot Freedman immediately after saying he’s a UFA after clearing waiverss. We’ll see where things go, but all eyes are on the Montreal Canadians. And sure enough, there it is. One year, $1 million for Alexandier in Montreal. And the good thing is that fills out our last roster spot. So many guys on the IR, we don’t need to send anyone down to make room. I’m sure we will end up sending someone down at some point. But Jesse, how you feeling immediately about Alexandon Texier to bolster this Habs bottom six right now? I’m feeling great about it. There was a lot of smoke here. We know that Kent Hughes is being very active on improving this team and I like this acquisition and I like how it speaks of how Kent Hughes and just the management will continue to be active on the front to improve this team just with this the larger side of what this really means and the question from here Josh is can Martin San Louie really bring out the best in in this player Alex Texi here he’s had the best year 30 points here in the NHL speedy um but you know maybe needs to just work on that strength a little bit. Um, so again, we’ve seen Marty be able to establish great relationships with players. There’s a reason they’re picking them, right? They’ve there’s been a couple players late where like, you know, Thomasino, for example, they’ve passed on. This is a player that they’ve done obviously done their research and so obviously with recent injuries, this seems like a very good depth acquisition for this team right now. Yeah, I agree. Right. And again, looking at the roster, it’s like, you know, it’s it’s a fun roster with Florian Jack guy picking up, you know, seven pins and assists in his NHL debut. Jared Davidson has looked really good. Joshua W hasn’t been quite what we wanted. But what we get in Texier is a guy who is a bonafide like NHL bottom sixer. And you know, he hasn’t been able to make the St. Louis Blues team right now. He hasn’t really been a fit for them. But for a Habs team that has had a lot of guys struggling or having these AHL guys to come up, he’s a guy who has that NHL skill ceiling. And again, we we look at some of this stuff like this shot here with St. Louis this year. This pass coming up in this next one. This wasn’t him scoring. It’s a little nifty back backwards pass. And even back in his Columbus days, that right there is a short-handed goal. That’s something he used to do a lot. Jesse Alex Tetsier, I think one of the things that, you know, he hasn’t really had a chance to to show in the most recent years. He actually has had some really solid penalty killing years, especially back in Columbus. You can see there three straight years. A minute and one on the penalty kill. Minute 40, minute 44. In St. Louis, not so much, but he’s even been getting a bit more run on the power play. He’s got a good shot. He is very, very, he’s a very high effort player, high motor player, and you know, for a team that’s lacking a guy like Alex New Hook right now. And I I saw the sentiment like, look, some people want to be quick to say, oh, this is maybe a guy that could come in instead of Valeno, I think this is more again to recreate some of that forchecking grit, some of that just getting into the dirty areas and having some nice finish that Alex New Hook was bringing this team. Again, I don’t anticipate Texier to be a a gamecher necessarily on that front, but you know, he’s a guy with NHL talent. Plus, one of the sickest shootout moves of all time, that fire poker whenever you saw the little one-hand poke that other people use now, that was Texier. So, I think there’s actually some underrated benefits to him, especially when it comes to the special teams. Yeah, these depth moves can be huge here. And of course, like for the Montreal Canadiens, a big thing is, you know, scoring goals, but the bigger issue, Josh, is more like preventing goals. Again, it comes down to the defense. like we can score goals. So, him somebody that can come in on the penalty kill has to be a huge factor in this acquisition here. I think you’re totally right. And for the Habs here, again, getting back to their winning ways. Special teams is going to be a huge factor. Of course, the power play was like pretty much hookline and sinker with our with our winning streak and obviously the PK. We want to obviously continue to improve on that because early on in the season, Josh, it was a young team where we were showing what we were capable of and because we were a young team, it was hard to kind of maintain that. And of course, some injuries came in, but this was showing, okay, this is what we’re capable of. And like, of course, we knew when we’re on those winning streaks, etc., being, you know, near the top of of the conference and of the East really in second in the East, we knew that there would be a couple games where, you know, obviously like the losing streak would come at a certain point, like we’re not just going to go and just coast through the entire season. So, inevitably, some injuries did come, but this team is fighting back. They’re definitely getting some acquisitions to be able to help to get back to our winning ways. Again, this team is showing what they were capable of, and for me, it’s very reasonable young team. There’s going to be a couple hits on the road, but just encouraging, showing what we’re capable of. Hopefully, this acquisition of Alex Tesier um really helps us get back to our winning weights and getting back to the top of the Atlantic again. 100%. And look, right now, the Atlantic is a tough spot to be a lot of great teams, but you know what this reminds me of, right? Like this reminds me of Paul Byron all over again in some ways, right? And again, I I don’t want to say Texas is going to have that high level impact, but again, the ceiling for Texier is a guy Yeah. He can get to the dirty areas. He can score some breakaway goals. like we see these highlights like that’s something he’s always been good at. Byron had plenty of those, right? And a guy who can draw some penalties but play the PK, play the PP if needed, but is not really expected to do that much. And again, 26 years old, he’s actually still an RFA after this year, which is interesting. But just one of these guys that Montreal can kind of take for not for free. Again, it’s $1 million, but he’s sacrificing a $2 million contract to sign for $1 million with Montreal. And another guy we got on waiverss, again, this is not a waiver thing. His contract was terminated. we signed him. So, a little different, but for all intents and purposes, kind of the same. Montbo, right? So, the Habs have a little bit of a history, whether it’s Kent Hughes or whether it was Mark Bersan, whatever, of bringing in guys and maximizing their potential with the team. And again, Jesse, with Kent Hughes knowing that Montreal is ready to go again, we get these reports like you alluded to earlier, Darren Dreger a couple days ago, no shortage of GMs looking to buy. Kent Hughes on the Habs, I know St. Louis was all over that Habs game back on November 20th. Maybe there’s something going on between the Blues and Habs. Well, this is one thing. There might be some more going on. I mean, there’s been some rumors there. Not Robert Thomas, not Colton Parco, but Kyu, I don’t know. But then even all these scouts coming to Montreal games, Bill Garren, Team USA, right? We’ll probably talk about this in further detail this week, so keep an eye out. But Nashville scouts, a back-to-back games, Jesse, I think this is just the first domino to fall in what could be a very busy month of December for Kent Hughes. Again, there’s going to be roster freezes coming up with the Olympic break. Wouldn’t surprise me if Kent pulls the trigger on a few more moves as we move into the next month or two. There’s some interesting targets from from these teams here. You have to feel it like a Ryan O’Reilly. Obviously, Impossible would just be such an amazing um addition for this team. Obviously, the Blues got some interesting uh players there as well. So, just to see how this is all heating up and it’s kind of an ideal time for this, Josh, because teams that we know where they’re kind of at a little bit more. They know what their strengths are, what their weaknesses are. This is where like a time where gems they they feel comfortable now making a move like knowing what they need, what they’re looking for. You have to feel like Kent use again, it’s been no secret here for a while, right? He just needed for the market to be ready. We know again that it’s going to be a huge cost right now because centers are at a premium in the market. Again, I invite Montreal Canadians nation to consider is it a benefit? This is a good thing. What team has more prospects, has amazing picks like we do? Like we are still loaded and we know K Hughes is shrewd when it comes to this. But again, at the same time, I think he has the ammunition to go out there. And again, in a lot of parody in the league here is you got to pick your spots. We’re coming out of the rebuild. And for me, I don’t think anybody would fault Kent Hughes for maybe making a move sooner than later and getting that big center. 100%. Like I’d love to see the center this year, but you know what? Last year, right around this time, our Decor was really struggling, especially on the defensive end. We swapped Justin Baron for Alexon Kerier, and my goodness, what a move it was. Alexon Kerier about a year ago, Alexon Texier this year. I don’t know who it’s going to be next year. Who knows? Someone with a similar name. Maybe you guys got some ideas. But this is just like we said, I think the first domino to fall. We’re going to address the problems with the team. Guys are going to get healthier. Kirby Doc should be back in a couple weeks again. New hook, line, ghoul. We’ll see. But look, the guys are going to start coming back one by one. We’re filling in these holes in the roster. We’re trying to make do with what we had. Coming off a win, coming off a move. Things are looking up right now for the Havs. So, leave your thoughts on the Alexandon Texier signing down below and what you think the future moves could be cuz that’ll do it for this episode. But hey, you made it all the way through this video. Make sure you do check and see if you’re subscribed. Just take a look because statistically over half of you still aren’t and we got videos just like this every single day. I’m Josh Gosh, my co-host Jesse Pier. We’ll catch you in the next one.

  1. Texier is an inexpensive warm body with some skills that could fill a current void in the senior side. The Habs are going to need to restock Laval to have some options. Florian was brilliant in his debut bringing exactly what the team needed, a spark. Arber was at his intimidating best lurking around and the entire team stood a little bit taller. The Bash Bros have arrived. Sorry to say but Roy is a trade bait throw-in at this stage. Thanks guys.

  2. sneaky, no, there was two teams he was interested in Signing with, MTL and OTT, he chose MTL, nothing to this other than a warm body, he's nothing special!!

  3. Naysayers expecting us to sign Crosby every two weeks.

Texier is a no risk insurance – can’t call up the whole Laval team without affecting their development.

Texier will either play with Habs or end up in Laval.

  4. They need a better goaltender. Not that the current ones are bad, but an A+ vs a B+ makes the world of a difference not only in goal scored against but in the rest of the team's reliance.

  5. a solid D minus….. A marginal nhler at best. He played 31 nhl games last season & 8 of 22 so far this season. Hes already had to play in Europe for a year not able to secure his spot on Columbus. My guess within a month he will be back on the waiver wire and finish the rest of this season in and out of Laval;s lineup in the AHL….Lets all get excited
