Indianapolis Colts’ Jerome Henderson Talks Kenny Moore II as Walter Payton Man of the Year

just in here talking to to Kenny about the the Walter Payeyton man of the year nominee that he’s gotten. Um what have you learned just about him character-wise, person-wise over the years? Yeah, in in the time I’ve known him, just one of those really special people that you meet and you know as soon as you meet him, this guy is different. Just how he thinks, how he’s wired, how he treats people, you know, funny story, my neighbor, I just moved here. My neighbor told me that his wife went to an event that this football player happened to be at their table and just said how impressed she was with the guy. She didn’t remember his name and come to find out he’s Kenny. And I said, I can understand why you were impressed. Um, just when you just as soon as you meet him, you just again you realize there’s something different about this kid. Just how he’s built and you see how do you go from an undrafted free agent to being Walter Payton man of the year and you see that in everything he does that he takes like unique pride like pride to a level that like even on this level that’s not normal. Um, and he does that in every aspect of his life it seems to me. as you’ve gone through your career and you’ve coached guys who have, you know, made impacts in the community, the thing with like Kenny that always stands out to me is that it’s all very genuine. It’s all very authentic to him. Um, just like from your perch when you observe someone who gives back but does it in that kind of a way. Um, how rewarding is that, you know, to to see the impact that guy can make? And and even more than rewarding, it’s humbling. It’s humbling to watch him to watch him interact with people to watch him move around to every you know every week Shane puts up kind of the thing the guys do in the community in the in the meeting room and kind of show so he can highlight that and every week Kenny’s up there with a big smile with new set of people impacting a new set of people and I think it’s phenomenal. So he told us that he teaches on Tuesdays over a local high school car. You work with young people, young athletes every day. But when you think about him taking that on, what goes through your mind knowing that I want to go to class on Tuesday. I hate that I’m here game plan. I want to go see what Kenny’s teaching. Um just because again, you know, anything he does, he’s going to put a lot of effort into and it’s going to be different. It’s going to be unique. It’s going to be special because that’s just who Kenny is. We don’t see him as as much of like the rahrrah guy outside, but like he seems very quiet, but how have you noticed his leadership come through? I mean, because you guys have kind of had a revolving door of of players come through this year. Yeah, you know, you you you see his leadership most when he’s on the field and you see us play. Like, cuz you can talk and you can say all you want. It means nothing until you get on that grass and do something. And when Kenny’s on that grass again, he takes special pride um in doing his job and executing at a high level, being a playmaker for this defense, of helping young guys play. you know, he’s he’s just been again absolutely phenomenal to be around with this
