Shane Steichen Media Availability : Colts at Jaguars
All right. Uh, injury updates. Uh, Daniel Jones has an Achilles. Um, could be season ending. I don’t have the full details on it. Um, but we’ll get more clarity on that. Uh, from there, Brain Smith’s got a concussion and Chris Lemons left the game with the foot. Um, obviously disappointing uh, the way that whole thing played out. Um, you know what? We got to be better um, going forward. That’s the bottom line. Um, I thought Riley stepped in and did some good things uh, in a tough situation. He battled like crazy. Uh but at the end of the day, um we got to be better to start games, put the defense in some bad situations offensively with some turnovers. Um we got to limit the explosive plays, a lot of things, and that all starts with me. Just to be clear, I mean, I know the game you ended, you don’t you don’t have any clarity yet on day, right? Not for sure, but it’s not looking good. Yeah. Uh just how did what kind of blows that to your team in that moment? I mean, I know you’re professionals, but like emotionally, I’m sure that’s hard. And how did they kind of navigate? Yeah, it’s it’s obviously a tough situation to be in when your starting quarterback goes down with an Achilles. Um, you know, I thought the guys did a good job in the locker room though, rallying around Riley um going into the second half. Uh, but anytime you lose a guy um that puts in so much work and so much effort and is always there for his team and is showing up with a fibula injury and goes out there and freaking plays. Um, just so much respect for him. Just so much respect. Have you had a conversation just with him at all? How does this emotions just briefly in the locker room at halftime, you know, briefly? Was it uh I know um he was able to be out there on the field in the second half. Was it good to at least have him out there spirit-wise as um Riley was going through his first big performance there and the team was trying to what they could? Yeah, absolutely. Anytime you can be out there again, that’s just him being a great teammate. You know, he has a huge injury. Some guys will sit in the locker room. He wants to be out there with his guys and he went out there and showed support for Riley and the rest of the guys. What have you learned about Daniel the character-wise, especially moments like this? It’s off the charts. I mean, the guy’s top-notch as it gets. Um, one of the best I’ve ever been around in a quarterback room. Uh, just his mentality, the way he goes about his business, the way he works, the way he treat people. Um, you know, just phenomenal. Phenomenal. Just be clear. This is the opposite leg. Correct. What What’ you tell those guys after the game? I mean, you have have more games, you guys. Heck, dang right we do. That’s the thing. And then now now we got to get this one cleaned up and it’s all about the next one. We got everything we want in front of us still. It ain’t like we’re, you know, we got to go. Um, so we got to get this thing cleaned up and get ready for Seattle. We got a big one on the road. That’s the message right there. Defensive performance uh today. You said the offense put in some bad situations, but didn’t really get to the quarterback at all. How would you assess the win? Yeah, obviously we got to get some things cleaned up there, too, as well. Um, I think that’s all part of the growth and development and the process, but again, it starts with me. all that stuff that’s on that field. Um, I got to be better for the guys just going forward. We got We can’t give up the explosive plays. Um, we got to be better there. How how would you evaluate evaluate Riley? Um, I know for a rookie that’s a big place to step into all of a sudden. Um, he been in a couple or in what one game I think earlier this year. How did you see what he did? I was actually impressed with what he did in the situation. He comes in there um in a rainy game, the weather, all that stuff, and he goes down and marches down the field, throws a touchdown, that gets called back. He had a big third down conversion, made some good plays, some good throws. Um I thought he went in and competed his tail off pretty darn good. I like what the injury type play. No, I don’t. You guys already dealt with the possibility of an injury for Daniel with the other leg. How was there a key emotionally to getting this team to to not make this more than it is to lose someone? Yeah, for I think a lot of this stuff too, as you go through a season, you’re going to have you’re going to go through some storms and some adversity, and you got to overcome those. That’s part of being a professional athlete and a coach and stuff. Uh, and staying steady through that process and keep believing and fighting like crazy. Um, and so that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to fight like crazy and believe and we know that we got a big one coming up uh on the

Weak reporters, make friends on your own time, do your job.
Why are these people not asking about AR
Appropriate. If there was ever a sign this organization should clean house, this is it.
Horrible i see two firing coming soon no excuses on capsule period the start we had and now playoffs not a playoff team no qb gave up way to much for gardener was just hitalis awful awful Jacksonville not the good blew rams and steelers and chiefs game and Houston great terrible offense just no excuses and Daniel Jones was awful pick up my worst nightmare and came true Richardson a bust now we are gonna be awful for next 3 -4 years make no sense
I'm sorry, but did JT get hurt?? Why is our season over when the media and our fans say our offense runs through JT?
If anything, this might help as Steichen now has no choice, but to run the ball more.
Truthfully, the reason we have struggled as of late is because we stopped running the ball and our defense hasn't been the same without Buckner. We get Buckner back this week and Riley can be an excellent game manager. Watch him pull a Purdy and take us on a run.
Seasons over
Ballard needs to go and Steichen is on the hot seat FOR SURE !
A 4 minute press conference?! How is he not being asked more questions by the colts media lol
We have the hardest scheduled ahead of us. Gotta win those home games. I'm hoping for the best
Horrible coaching over and over! Starts with you FIRE THIS GUY! HORRIBLE PLAY CALLING
And defense cant stop anybody!! Fire everyone!!!!!
Be better without steichen
Very sad! I don't think they win another game this season.
"It all starts with me" phrase is getting played out.
Prays for Daniel Jonesš
Just clean up and on to the next one.
Another failure by Ballard and steichen. Ballard has had 9 years and it's like a broken record. We would be better off with Jeff Saturday again and anybody as a gm. I can't believe Ballard did not look for a proven backup when AR broke his own face. Should have moved on from ar and got a quality backup. It's like everything Know it all Ballard does is just causing more damage. Please fire Ballard if you EVER want to win and please the fans. I also believe that people saying the offensive line is one of the best. Sure as hell looks like they are one of the worst. This team quit today and it was obvious.
Wouldnt have mattered if DJ was healthy.
We wernt winning giving up 36 to a pathetic jags offensein a monsoon anyways.
Fire Ballard and fire Steichen Carlie!
Yea.. you need to get it together.. Iāll say it.. your playcalling needs to be better. 3rd and 1⦠you donāt even try to QB sneak before the half.. they come down score a touchdown.. You have been making 2-3 boneheaded calls that are game-changers⦠Every game you do it. Doesnāt matter about the 10 good calls you make.. if you flop in crunch timeā¦Whats done is done.. itās unfortunate. Give Leonard a shot.. clean up your play-calling and Letās go!
Could be season ending?
NFL IS SCRIPTED… all planned out ahead of time, all fake, just a show for your entertainment.
Are You Entertained?
That's a look in his eye of being fired
2 allmost broken legs is crazy man
Shane Frank-Reich-Steichen.
This team just has really bad luck since Luck !?
WTF Shane? Why do you refuse to change your plan?
Love this guy
It wasnāt just losing Jones we got our asses totally kicked the wheels came off everything smoking season ending disaster. Coach is taking it pretty well
āI/We gotta be betterā count: 3
āIt starts with meā count: 1
Unreal to watch this team as a long time colts fan whether the season is good or bad for tears but to watch this team run up a 7-1 record and then lose 4 of the last 5 drop from 1st seed in the AFC to completely out of the playoffs with 4 games left is sickening. This deush bag seems to call plays amazing until the games really start to matter then it's like he forgets how to coach and call winning football. So sad another waste of a year that we should be in the playoffs but instead us colts fans will watch it disappear. Good luck being downgraded to OC where a real head coach can tell you what plays to call each week what a shame
Where is AR and fire this play caller u are a head coach
If it wasn't clear before he started an inexperienced ROOKIE and Gardner bailed him out in season one, FAILING to develop the TOP 5 QB pick HE BEGGED for in season 2, and going 0-3 after the bye this year… Shane is the FRAUD I've said he was since benching AR in '24. Time to make a definitive statement to Colts Nation and move on from Shane and Ballard after the 4 game losing streak we ALL KNOW is coming. š
Sorry shane but tell Richardson its go time but man lenord is a cool kid love to see him succeed as well.
