RINK WIDE POST-GAME: Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers | Game #33 – Dec. 16, 2025
Back-to-back wins for the first time in two months as the Canucks shut out the Rangers three nothing. We’re breaking it down on Rinkwide Vancouver. [music] Seasons greetings everybody. We welcome you inside the Pacific Toyota dealer studios. Visit shoptoyota.ca or your local Pacific Toyota dealer. Today, Jeff Patterson along with Fon Gafar and Rinkai brought to you in part by Bet365. I don’t know if it’s a Christmas miracle, but [laughter] the Vancouver Conucks trade away their captain, their best player, and all of a sudden are 2 and0 since. They have been far from perfect in terms of the process. But hey, they’re giving up next to nothing. They’ve got Thatcher Demco back. He’s doing his thing and they take Manhattan by storm with a three nothing win over JT Miller and the New York Rangers. >> Yeah, good for the Vancouver Conucks. Um played well in the absence of you mentioned their captain Quinn Hughes. Um guys have stepped up, you know, Steve Bum scoring in in his first game, Liam Ogrren scoring in this game. So the new guys definitely doing their thing, but this game was about the guy between the pipes, Thatcher Demco, Jeff. 10th career shut out for Demco. And uh Team Tank not going to like this one if he keeps playing the way that he is. >> No. Uh and we said like they’re not going to win every game the rest of the way, but they’re also not going to lose every game. And that’s just pro sports that these guys are out here trying. The Rangers, in a word, >> stinky at home, very much so. >> Uh and so the Rangers didn’t look like they were all that into it. They got rolled by the Ducks last night. This was back to back for them. You know, the Cucks got the Devils back to back. They got the Rangers back to back and they’ve taken advantage of two teams that weren’t exactly uh motoring. But again, for the Vancouver Conucks, this is about assessing what they’ve got in the Quin Hughes trade. It’s about assessing what they got in a lot of the young guys uh that they have in their lineup now. And for Liam Ogran, this guy wants to be an NHLer. He wants to show the Conucks that he can be more than a throwin in this trade. Hadn’t scored a goal for the Minnesota Wild all season. And so for him in his second game, he watched Zeve Boom do it the other night against New Jersey. What’s taking Marco Russy so long? That’s my question. Um, no, but for Liam Ogrren, nice shot coming down the right side to handcuff Jonathan Quick and Quick probably thinks that he should have been able to stop it, but puck squeezes through and off the post and in. That made it two nothing. hanging at that point. That was a cushion uh for the Vancouver Conucks after Evander Kane got a little help from linesman Devin Berg on the opening goal uh as we showed on the live stream. Uh Matthew Robertson, the defenseman for the Rangers, taking an angle on Kane, runs smack into Berg, the linesman, and Evander Kane is the guy that benefits and he tucks it in and he looked like a goal scorer. We’ve said that he hasn’t done a lot for the Vancouver Conucks. We haven’t seen a ton of finesse from him. We haven’t seen a lot of physicality from Evander Kane. There just really hasn’t been a whole lot of anything really. Uh but it’s his sixth goal of the year. It is just his second five on five goal. The other one coming out of the penalty box the breakaway in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago and Evander Kane up to six goals on the season a minute and 46 seconds into the hockey game. That turns out to be the gamewinner for the veteran forward. And I saw the league put out the statistic after the first period. That’s the fifth time already this season the Canucks have opened the scoring in the first two minutes of hockey game. I’d have to go back and look at my notes like that. That caught me off guard. It doesn’t feel like they have jumped on opponents that quickly that often. >> Yeah. I mean, well, they may have done it, but it’s the rest of the game kind of where the offense seemed to have fallen off for the Vancouver Conucks. You mentioned Evander Kane. >> 47th career game-winning goal for him now. Scored 332 in his career. 47 of them have been gamewinners. >> I guess when you really been out as long as >> in on his thousandth game later this year if he stays healthy. Um, so yeah, I mean, look, he’s been a goal scorer throughout his career. Uh, hasn’t done a ton of it here with the Vancouver Conucks, but uh, again, showed nice patience. Outweights Jonathan Quick and was able to tuck it home. Um, Quick shut the Canucks out back on October 28th here in JT Miller’s visit to Vancouver. And so, the Conucks turn the tables and it’s Thatcher Demco. We’ll talk a fair bit about Thatcher Demco being back, regaining his form, what it means in the short and the long term for the Vancouver Conucks. Again, like I think we have to be careful here and I think there’s probably people watching and going like, “Oh, sure. This is so connect, right? You kind of throw in the towel and run the white flag up when you trade Quinn Hughes and now they go on a win streak.” Keep it in perspective. The Canucks beat the New Jersey Devils with 15 shots the other night. They just beat the New York Rangers with 17 shots on goal. They’ve got a total of 32 shots in the two games since Quinn Hughes left. Like they are going to struggle. They’re going to have trouble getting the puck out of their own end. They’re going to have trouble generating offense and sustaining time uh in the offensive zone. They’ve just run into a couple opponents that haven’t played particularly well. And the Conucks have jumped out to early leads. you know, in that third period again like the other day in Jersey, Cox weren’t looking to extend their lead, right? They had two goals at that point and it was sort of come and get us and see what what you can do and the Rangers weren’t able to score and Thatcher Demco had a huge hand in that. And then Connor Garland with the high flippy short-handed empty net with the Rangers on a late power play and for Connor Garland his first goal in a while. He hadn’t scored since that pretty one in Anaheim at the start of the road trip uh the last road trip and then of course came home off that road trip with a a minor injury. So, uh, it had been a couple of weeks, but there had been a few missed games in there, but six games without a goal for Connor Garland. So, uh, I’m sure it feels good to put a puck in the net, and it’s up to seven now on the season for him. But, you know, just go back to the shots for a sec. The final shots are 237 in favor 2317. It felt like seven, but 2317 in favor of the Rangers. So, the Conucks got outshot 2615 by the Devils, 2317 here by the Rangers. Again, that will catch up to them at some point. Yeah. But it was enough of a recipe for success here uh to kick off the road trip. And as I said right off the top, back-to-back wins, something we’ve been charting for a long time. You got to go back to Chicago and Washington. Those were the final two games of a three-game road trip or a three-game win streak. Uh back in the middle of October when Philip Heedle and Teddy Bluger were still in the lineup. It’s been two full months since the Vancouver Conucks accomplished that, winning back-to-back games. >> Yeah, it’s uh it’s been interesting. And for all the talk about the Rangers stinking and being really bad on home ice. Yes. All very true. New York Rangers are still six points above the Canucks in the [laughter] in the standings. So Conucks still sit 32nd in the league. Um and they’re going to have to work to to climb their way out of it. Positive storylines are the fact that they they beat two teams here in in back-to-back games. It has been quite some time. And the player of the goalender has been really good. new guys have emerged and are kind of going to be, you know, uh, f familiarizing themselves with this roster and and and and their teammates. But, um, yeah, I think the first goal, obviously, you look at Evander Kane, a little help from the ref. And then the second goal in the hockey game, obviously. And then the third goal is just it’s it’s a fluke. It’s a Hail Mary. Connor Garland, good for him. It went in. But, um, yeah, again, like you just mentioned, however many shots they had against the Devils, and then just 17 here against the Rangers. If you’re going to be doing that on a lot of nights, some good teams are really going to bury the Cox. >> Exactly. And again, they they haven’t trailed on this road trip. They got the quick two goals on the power play in Jersey. They got an early one here. >> Uh when they fall behind, they are going to have to try to uh mount some sort of response and we’ll see if they’re up to it. Uh because they’re still not scoring. I mean, they get to three in this one with a three nothing win with the empty netter. Uh but that feels like a ton. Uh they just haven’t been scoring very much. People know that. they’ve been watching this hockey club, but uh uh for the new guys again, they want to fit in and they want to feel like they can contribute. And so I think on that front to go 2 and 0. Uh you know, we’re not back to training camp vibes where there was a lot of talk of the good vibes. Uh but there have to be a pretty decent feeling. Now they get two nights off. Uh so they’ll probably go have a little fun uh in NYC here after a victory at Madison Square. Uh super chats are coming in and we love that. And people, it is that time of the year. So, if you’re feeling it, you want to spread a little holiday cheer. Hit us up with a super chat, uh, all donated funds support the BC Mental Health Foundation, changing the face of mental health and addiction by supporting breakthroughs in care, public understanding, research, and knowledge exchange. Free Pey says they’re back to zone D. First 30 games was a tank job. Uh, we’ll see. I mean, they’re trying to integrate Z Buum and uh, the other guys up front. So, new faces, spread ice time. And we’ll get into some of the numbers a little bit later, but uh you know, it’s no longer one guy playing 30 minutes and the rest uh scratching and clawing for their own ice time. They are spreading the ice time out a little bit more. And uh you know, so far so good in these first two games. Uh Justice 16 says Demco’s back like he never left. Also, Hughes went to my second team, so I’m not >> What is it? Sorry, I’m >> so I’m not and live close and can go see Amora. I’m okay with the trade. All right. I’m not sure that it made sense at first reading there, but we appreciate the contribution. And this one comes from E. Alexander 71. Best case scenario, a team pulls a Billy G and offers another blockbuster for Demco. Would JR do that? It’s two, it’s three games back, it’s two wins. Um, you know, he’s finding his form, but I think most teams are in a big old wait and see mode with Thatcher Demco before anybody would pony up anything close to significant assets right now. >> Spadzilly. I’m feeling it. That was another super [laughter] chat as well. You know who was feel, you know who’s been feeling it as well? Like you just mentioned Thatcher Demco. And and I think the positive going back to the trades, we’re going to be doing a lot of these shows until the trade deadline, Jeeoff, and it’s going to be a lot of these questions from from our listeners and things like that. But that’s kind of where we’re at in the season. and and if this rebuild rebuild thing is going to happen, then other players are going to have to go. Um, is Thatcher Demco going to be one of them? I still remain that no one’s off the table here for the Conucks. He’s got a full no move again. But yeah, I I agree with you. A lot of other GMs, especially those with cup contending teams, they’re going to be looking to spend the 8 million bucks for the rest of this season, next season, and the one after going to have to make sure. >> And I think that’s the kicker in all of this is the here and now. Is there a team that would say hey like maybe we’ll take a fly around that if he can stay healthy and it’s hot be a differencemaker. It comes with the three-year extension and that’s a big ticket and a lot of uncertainty still uh for a guy who just turned 30 and has the litany of injuries that he’s had over the years. All right, I want to get to the three stars. Three stars here on Ring White are always brought to you by Greta Bar and we’re packing up and ready to go Saturday. Uh the Conucks Army watch party will be there at least early on. Uh if you want to see if you can and get a photo with us, you’re gonna have to be there early because we’re gonna make our way back to the studio here to watch uh the Conucks are in Boston that afternoon. Doors at three o’clock, puck drop just after four o’clock. And uh it’s again days before Christmas, so it’s sort of our Conucks Army watch party Christmas party. Wear a ugly funny Christmas sweater, wear a Kucks sweater, who knows? So it’s up to you. Uh but we’re all going to sort of be in the mood and we’ll have some fun there. Uh, and of course, Greta will put on a great show as they always do with the food and drink specials. We’ve got prizes, some trivia. Uh, yeah. So, hopefully you can make it out. Here’s your invitation right now. All you have to do to reserve a spot and spot to fill it up. So, don’t show up and think, “Ah, I’ll be lots of room for me.” No. Take the risk out of the equation here, text Greta 604256422. 604256422. Uh, just text them. How many you coming? part of your party and you’ll be part of our party as well. The Canucks Army Watch Party, Greta Bar, the place to be. 50 West Cordova. Let the games begin. All right, three stars in the building. Clean sweep for the Vancouver Conucks. That Demco, the shutout, no surprise. He was the first star of Ander Kane with that game winner and Liam Ogran with his first as a Canuck. He is star number three. Uh we go a little bit differently here and we talked about Evander Kane and yeah, winning goal early sets the tone. Terrific. uh doesn’t figure in the scoring. Thatcher Demco though with those 23 saves, 10th career shut out. He is the man. So, he gets first honors. I’m going with Liam Ogrren. Uh I like the goal. I think you saw some of the traits that are attractive for the Canucks, the speed and a heavy shot and uh found its way in. So, he’s off the Schneider. He gets his first of the season. But he also had that chance in the second period when Matthew Robertson fell down and he recognized that and was able to cut hard to the net. tried to go five hole on Jonathan Quick. Uh didn’t score on that one, but still I I I liked uh you know his recognition of the situation that a Ranger defenseman was in peril and just blew right past him. Took the puck hard to the net. So uh yeah, this is a you didn’t notice a lot of him the other night. He drew a penalty in Jersey, but uh didn’t play an awful lot. Although uh played more against New Jersey than he did in this one. He was a low ice man for the Vancouver Conucks. Just 715. Now, there were quite a few penalties and [laughter] so a lot of special teams time. He’s not involved there. Uh but in his 715, he makes a mark in the hockey game. Had a couple of shots, had a hit. Uh and so Liam Ogrren gets second star nod. And Kefir Sherwood, you might say, “Well, what did Kefir Sherwood do tonight?” I thought Kefir Sherwood was terrific in this hockey game. Uh Kefir Sherwood had three shots on goal. He had six hits. He had that incredible opportunity early in the second period. Broke in all alone. uh doesn’t score on the first chance, but the rebound comes right back to him. Probably Jonathan Quick’s best save of the night, diving to his left and robbed Kefir Sherwood of his 14th goal of the season. But also, and we haven’t even talked about this, >> the Rangers go 0 for four on the power play. Kefir Sherwood logged 3 minutes and 46 seconds of short-handed time and so was a huge part of all of those successful kills. And then, of course, Garland scores short-handed into an empty net. So, the Conucks actually uh net plus one in the special teams battle here. They didn’t score on their own power play, but the Garland goal is a shorty. And so, all the penalty killers, credit to them. Uh but Kefir Sherwood sort of represents the penalty killing crew and that’s why he is the third star here on Rink tonight, three stars are brought to you by Greta Bar. And I do want to take a moment here because how many games I mean the Conucks have played 33 games. How many nights surf have we done this and said a lousy penalty kill sunk them like it cost them a hockey game kind of quietly here amidst everything else has that’s gone on around the Vancouver Canucks the penalty killing’s been clawing its way out of the base now it’s still I think 29th in the league which tells you how far down it was at one point but and I wrote about this at Kucks Army earlier today since David Camp has joined the team and you know we always ask what does he do around here he’s certainly He’s an offensive black hole, but since Camp has joined this team, the penalty kill is up 13%. And it’s not ever just one guy, but he’s won his share of penalty killing faceoffs. And so, he’s contributing that way. And obviously, a guy like Ke for Sherwood who has taken on a fair bit, especially with EP 40 out of the lineup. Other guys have had to step up here and log some key penalty killing moments. Uh, but they went three for three the other day in New Jersey and four for four. So, penalty killers have been perfect on this road trip and that is a far cry from all those nights where they were given up two on the regular and it was costing them hockey games. >> Well, I think everyone’s kind of uh doing it by committee now. It’s not just one guy you need on that penalty kill. David Camp obviously a big part of it. Wins some faceoffs. He’s he’s pretty good in the circle and doing it by a system by committee. And you know, the Rangers power play isn’t that potent. I mean, they’ve got guys that can shoot the puck. They run a five forward power play. Yes. So when the Conucks get the puck, you’re going because none of them can defend in all reality. So they’re one of the rare teams that goes five forward power play there and everyone just wants to shoot. JT Miller at 98 mph slap shot the extra attacker. It was unbelievable. But they just they they shoot a lot. A lot gets blocked and credit to the Canucks. They got in shooting lanes. They were able to block shots. Um make life miserable. And then you even saw at the end that Connor Garland goal. I mean, yeah, the puck gets blocked and Garland doesn’t panic. Plays it through the legs of the the guy that was right in front of him. I can’t remember who it was. And then off the boards to himself. Just a really smart play by a veteran guy. >> Yeah, I’m just looking at the short-handed ice time again. They’re spreading it around here. Phil Heronic 3 minutes and 55 seconds. Uh Marcus Patterson 401, Tyler Meyers 408. So Myers was the high short-handed icime guy. But all three of those defenseman basically within 10 seconds of each other. And then you had others like Connor Garland. You had Kefir Sherwood, Drew O’ Connor. Uh those are the guys that and David Camp stepping up and getting it done uh short-handed for the Vancouver Conucks. They beat the Rangers by a score of 3 nothing. Keep those super chats coming. We will read them as they come in here. Owen says, “Haha, they can’t stop winning now.” Uh and then he says McKenna with the praying hands emoji. So, uh this is the thing that yes, they’ve won two in a row. They’re still 32nd in the league. like this wind does not vault them up the standings. It gets them closer to teams like Nashville and St. Louis and Seattle Calgary. But uh for this night once again, the Vancouver Conucks will remain dead last in the National Hockey League standings. They’ve got 29 points in 33 games. So they’re a point back of Calgary. Flames are in action later tonight in San Jose. Nashville’s at 30. And the Seattle Kraken certainly have entered the conversation now as a candidate to finish dead last. Um, you know, we’ve talked about St. Louis and their struggles, but the Kraken also 30 points. Now, they’ve played 30 games, so they’ve got a few games in hand here. They’ve got a better points percentage. They’re at 500 uh by NHL um measures, but they have 30 points and the Conucks in Dead last 29. So, it’s a log jam and the Pacific at the Pacific’s well represented at the bottom of the NHL standings this season. Uh you and I December 30th, the brilliant Seattle Kraken Vancouver Canucks [laughter] game. >> Yes, bring it on. Um gota hype it up. >> You know, it’s it’s it’s interesting when you look at the standings obviously and and the way that teams are plummeting and the East is such a mess where there’s the difference between a playoff spot or wild card spot is just one or two points and the West teams are starting to pull themselves away. So, we’re going to be sitting here and looking at it for quite some time every single show because that’s where we are. We’re we’re now standing is watching and I I think I do my vibes check on the at the end of the month. That’s that December 30th game. I think that’s the that’s the last game, right? They don’t play on the 31st. Yeah, that is the last game. So, we’ll do that and then we’ll do Draft Simulator and we’ll get everything going that night. It’ll be our sort of New Year’s Eve party a [laughter] night early. >> Um we talked about that Demco as the first star. Uh he again figures into our stat that stands out. So, let’s go there and we’ll do the stat that stands out. It is delivered by Uber Eatats. And Uber Eats is enabling fans to maximize their fandom all season long with exclusive game day deals on the app. We tell you every show. Every time the Canucks are playing at home, you can get a buy 1 get one six-piece chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s in Vancouver only on Uber Eats. From game day eats to paper plates and napkins if you’re hosting to all the ingredients you need to make your favorite game day dip before, during, or after the game. Uber Eats is assisting every fan’s hockey experience all season long. # crave the stats. And this stat might send some shivers up the spines of Kuck fans that do want to see the bottom fall out because Thatcher Demco returned in the Buffalo game. Gave up three that night and they lost to the Sabres. Then they go out on the road. He gives up one in Jersey the other day. Okay. >> And none here. Add it up. Four goals in three games since his return from injury. So, is this a case of that is backed up to speed already? Is it a case of playing a bunch of middling to lower tier teams like the Buffalo Sabres the other night even though they scored three? Um, probably a little bit of both. Callum A, column B here. I don’t think Demco would say that, you know, three games has him right back locked into uh the way he wants to play, but you can’t do any better than stopping every puck that comes your way. and he stopped 23 in a three nothing shutout win. So where do you think Thatcher Demco is as he works his way back from a month off? >> Yeah, and I think the the biggest thing is those three games, the first one made it through, second one looked good and the third one he was outstanding in this hockey game. So the fact that he’s going on that level of of increasingly getting better as a goalender, he’s obviously has to be happy about because of all the history and and the injuries and stuff. And hopefully when we do this again, it won’t be since returning from injury. We’re just going to talk about this guy just being back. >> Uh yeah. Hey, congratulations Thatcher on the shut out. Now take a seat. Uh you’ve played three in a row. Uh you can’t play them all. Uh we know that and the Conucks can’t run that risk. So uh even with a shout out, this will be interesting. This will be a good test for Adam Foot. I mean, conventional hockey wisdom. You get a shout out, you’re the guy again. They’ve got backto-backs Friday and Saturday. I would think before this game against the Rangers, the plan was Kevin Lanken on Friday. Give Demco an extra day rest. He would get Boston played at Boston College. Um, and then you’d have Lincoln for the Philly game to take them into Christmas. But maybe plans change if they were going to split the two. Anyways, maybe let that run here and start a fourth straight game against the Islanders. No travel. Um, you know, the extra day of rest. If people have concerns about playing him too much, overplaying him, uh, you know, he was really good in the second period of this game. He wasn’t that busy in the third, even though the Rangers had the the late power play. Uh, when I look through my notes, it was the second period there. JT Miller’s line was buzzing at one point. And then that was followed up or Timmy Paneran, I think it was Lafrenier that set him up in the slot. U Demco stared him down and Paneran had a really good look. Uh, didn’t score then. Uh and then again Paneran alone in front. Uh actually I think the the first one was Paneran off the rush came into the slot weaved his way in got a good look. The second one was Lafrenir setting him up uh all alone in front and so there were some saves there and you know if the Rangers score in the second period we talked about the fact that the Canucks didn’t really push in the third maybe it’s a different hockey game but that Demco earned his keep definitely in the second period and in the third period was there to close the door. or I think his best save was probably off Connor Shiri. Uh he was in front of the net. Gabricov got on the puck midway through that third period and Demco there to close the door. So, uh yeah, that Demco delivered like Uber Eats delivers and they’ve got a bit of a goalending decision to make uh as they head for the island on Friday. >> I think shorty said first shut out at MSG since 1999. >> Yeah, >> Kevin Weekes was in goal for the Vancouver Canucks then. It’s been a long time. >> It has been a long time. >> Very long time. >> Yeah. No. Uh, good for them. Uh, good for That Demco. I mean, >> again, I get where the fans are coming from. They don’t want to see That Demco pitch shutouts on the regular here. But when he is locked in, he’s fun to watch. He does this about as well as anybody in the National Hockey League. It’s just a question of can he stay healthy? And we’re going to continue to ask that only because uh of his history. Now, as we said, this thing wasn’t a masterpiece. And so don’t want to get like too fired up about a win with 17 shots because as we told you earlier like Evander Kane hasn’t scored a bunch. He got his sixth of the season. Ogrren gets his first. You know, it was another I thought relatively quiet night for Brock Besser who didn’t take the morning skate and you do wonder uh remember it was questionable for a game last week and Adam Foot again after the morning skate talked about discomfort there and so you wonder how close to or how far from 100% Brock Besser is and then his night got off to a tough start. First couple of shifts he blocked his shot. Uh looked like he was in some distress as he hustled to the bench. So, uh, you know, they’ve moved him away from David Camp. He’s getting a chance to play with Marco Rossi, Jake De Bras. Uh, that line didn’t do an awful lot. Not that anybody really did a ton offensively, but, uh, you know, there’s still room for improvement. You still want to see. And obviously, I mean, I joked right off the top when I said, “Okay, Marco Rossi, how come you haven’t contributed yet?” Um, what did you see from Marco Rossi tonight? Took the light penalty. Uh, and this is as people get to know Marco Rossi a little bit better. Uh, penalties are not part of his game. Just the second trip to the penalty box. His first as a Kuck, but had only one penalty in Minnesota. Rossi played a lot. Again, 18 minutes and 59 seconds of ice time. Didn’t have a shot on goal, had one attempt, won seven of 12 faceoffs, so he keeps his head above water in the faceoff circle there. Um, but I don’t know about you, I didn’t really notice him an awful lot. And I think that’s what you want from your second or third line center in most cases, but you don’t really want that from the guy that’s supposed to be the guy right now. And I I I think for Marco Rossi, obviously, you know, we’re going to cut him some slack a little bit, let them kind of get acquainted to the team and and, you know, do all that and everything, but a little bit more offense. You can’t not have a shot on net. You’re the you’re the you’re the only you’re the number one center on this team. You cannot have a shot on net in a hockey game. I I we’ve we’ve sat here and absolutely buried Elias Person for it as the number one center and by default right now Marco Rossi is that guy. They traded for him and they put him in that position. He is there now. He’s got to put the puck on the net. >> Yeah. And look on the night um Rossi doesn’t have a shot on goal. Jake De Brusk doesn’t have a shot on goal. Brock had the only shot on goal of that trio. >> Yeah. It’s just not good that your top line can’t be enough. >> Tammy Paneran on his own had eight shots on [laughter] goal on 11 attempts. This guy has 36 attempts in his last three games. He had 10 last night. He had 15 on Saturday against the Montreal Canadians. Now, did he find the back of the net? No. But not afraid to shoot the puck. And when you have 11 attempts, it tells you you got the puck in shooting positions an awful lot as a a night goes along. So, yeah. I mean, look, they won. We’re not here knives out. Uh, but they make the trade for Rossy. They’re going to get Elias Person back, I think, at some point. We’ll see. Uh, they’re two games into this trip. It’s five games now that EP40 hasn’t played for the Vancouver Conucks, but I do want to see what they look like with a legitimate one-two down the middle and we’ll see when Pety gets back in there. But, yeah, I’m with you. I mean, I know they’re on the road and the other team gets to match up and all that kind of stuff, but still, come on. Um, Besser and De Brusk, they’ve now got a playmaker. Uh, he’s got to get them the puck and they’ve got to find a way to do a little bit more. All the flowers the other day for Z Buum and understandably so. Looked terrific in his debut. I thought he had his moments in this game as well. Plays 2231. So, they’re giving him a long look there. Paired with Tyler Myers. Took a penalty at one point. That’s fine. That’s going to happen. Uh, just a single shot on goal for him. credited with a couple of giveaways. Made a nice defensive read though. Uh Rangers tried to spring a guy coming out of the penalty box for a breakaway sort of a home run pass and you read it properly cut it off uh and took it out of harm’s way there. So uh again I I would say of the three tonight Ogrren scored so obviously you noticed that I thought Bu had his moments. I would probably slot him second among the newcomers in this hockey game and then Marco Rossi for the reasons that we just talked about. But uh what did you see if anything from from Z Buum in his second game as a kanak? >> Uh again not looking out of place. He’s a guy that you know it’s not as exciting obviously as Quinn Hughes when he gets the puck on his stick but he tries to make things happen and I think that the coaching staff is going to like that. Uh played with Tyler Myers. You know you saw before the puck drop. You know giving Tyler’s going over and giving him some words of encouragement maybe trying to tell them where to go where to be and it’s it’s got to be a whirlwind obviously for them. a couple of games in now. Hopefully, you know, they’re going to start to get a little bit slower and slow things down a little bit. Do they have a practice day? They probably do between now and now’s a practice day. >> Yeah. So, they’re going to have a practice day, be able to work on things a little bit more. But, um, I like them. I mean, the the top end talent is is really, really, really high on Zum. He did an interview in the morning with Johnny Lazareth who who obviously you know works with us and he told LA Johnny that when Billy was call when Billy Garren was calling him he thought he was sending him down >> instead of being traded. So um I think fans are really going to like this guy. Obviously he’s a winner. He’s won at every level that that he has played at and hopefully he can help this team get better. >> Yeah, he plays 4 minutes and 17 seconds on the power play. That was a team high. Uh power play only generated one shot. So, where were it scored twice the other night in Jersey, uh, yeah, it wasn’t nearly as potent. The Rangers are a decent penalty killing team and they didn’t need power play goals in this one. They were able to score two at five on five and then the empty netter. Uh, again, when you come back and you sort of assess these two games now in New Jersey and against the Rangers, you know, the Boo goal was a bounce off Brennan Dylan. The Kane goal tonight, big assist to the linesman and then an empty netter. So there’s three of the five goals that they have scored. It’s not like they’re an offensive juggernaut. They’re taking advantage of some situations. They’re getting a little bit of help. Bounce is going their way. Uh bounces generally level off. So we’ll see how things go as they move on to the island on Friday. Won’t have to face Bo Horvat. I don’t think he’s out of their lineup. And uh I don’t believe that he’ll play uh in that one. The Islanders were in Detroit tonight. Ended up losing 3-2. So, they’re coming off a loss and the Canucks uh roll in there on Friday with these backto back victories. Uh, Bridges says, “I wonder how Ratu fits in going forward. Faceoffs a non-issue now.” Yeah, this is uh surprising again when they had their morning skate at MSG and Atu Ratu was one of the extras and EP40 was out there, but we knew that he wasn’t going to play. Brock Besser didn’t take the skate, but Ratu a healthy scratch for two games in a row now. And the Conucks end up winning 43% of the draw. So, it wasn’t a great night in the faceoff circle. Uh particularly for David Camp, who’s been pretty good. Uh but Camp won seven of 20. So, that’s no bueno. But the winger turned center setter Drew O’ Connor wins one of five faceoffs. Like if you’re going to be a center, you got to be able to hold your own at the National Hockey League level. And so I don’t get it. We’ll see if Adam Foots asked about it. Coaches generally don’t tinker with winning lineups. And so I won’t be surprised if I mean the former Islander, you wonder if that figures in in any way. Um so we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll see what practice brings and then ultimately on Friday how they line up against the Islanders. I mean, we talked a little bit on Sunday as well, like I think we were in agreement. Don’t love the fact that Atu Ratu, a guy who’s played reasonably well for the Vancouver Cox right now can’t get a spot in this lineup. >> I don’t think that Drew O’ Connor likes playing center either. [laughter] >> He’s gets destroyed in the faceoff circle. I know he doesn’t take a lot of faceoffs, but he wasn’t good last game. Wasn’t good this game. >> And isn’t the name of the game? Puck possession a little bit. You start with the puck. Arachu is pretty good. Might be your best guy in the faceoff circle. So, um, whether it’s don’t want to tinker with a winning lineup. Yes, I I do understand that. A lot of coaches don’t like to make changes, but this one just seems obvious because a guy that you have playing that position isn’t his position. So, your four lineups, you could have Rossi, Camp, Sassin, and Ratu. Like, to me, that’s not that bad. >> Well, and you’re getting Py back. >> And you’re getting Pison back at some point. Yeah. >> So, then at that point, you can have a lineup decision to make. Then it’s like, okay, Patterson come back, take Raju out of the lineup, and then we can see what happens in that sense. But right now, you have a natural centerman just not playing, and he hasn’t been playing bad of late. It’s it’s just a curious decision. I mean, they’ve won two games, so what do we know >> exactly? And you can’t break up these Vancouver Conucks. Come on. Uh, keep those super chats coming. Supporting the BC Mental Health Foundation. This one is for you. Uh, from Jordan says, “Hey boys, big fan of the show. Earthf Girardano soon with with an eel. >> Oh wow. Oh yeah, they’re watching. They’re probably sitting having a pint or six and enjoying the show. Good for them. >> Good. Yeah. Uh then shout out to the boys. Um for the Vancouver Conucks again, uh we talked about that Demco and the fact that he’s back and getting on form. In your mind, what is sort of the limit here knowing his history and coming off a month off? Like how many in a row is too many in a row even if they feel like they can’t turn to Kevin Lankin and or don’t want to turn to Kevin Lankan? Like is four in a row too many at this stage for Thatcher Demco? >> What’s the plan organizationally? What is the plan of action here on the season? I I I I know you want to stay competitive and and try and win hockey games. Well, if you’re trying to win hockey games, this guy is giving you the best chance to win hockey games every single night. He’s going to want to play. There’s no doubt in my mind that that guy’s fiery as a competitor as we’ve seen here in Vancouver. Um, you’re going to have to let him go. He’s obviously not going to play one of these next two games, >> right? So, back to Yeah. So, he’s obviously not going to play one of these next two games. And then I think he’s I think he plays Friday and then I think he plays Monday in Philly. I I I I think Lincoln against the Boston game um against Rick, old coach. Yep. Throw him in there. >> All right. We’ll see how things go. Uh I do want to take >> I I I just think that the way the rhythm that he’s in right now, I I I think that for him to have him be at his top of his game, and I know no one wants to hear that, but for him to be at his top of his game, Adam Foot probably wants that. So, give him that one day off and then just keep him kind of going and and and and see what happens. Uh for the Rangers, and the story’s been well documented, uh they’re terrible on home ice, and the proof was there for all to see. Um they have four wins. Like the Canucks, they have four wins on home ice this season. But unlike the Canucks, they have been shut out in six home games. And we talk regularly about how bad the Conucks have been at Rogers Arena, and the fans aren’t getting their money’s worth. But the Conucks have only been shut out what, twice, by the Rangers in Detroit. Uh this is the seventh time this season that the New York Rangers have failed to score a goal. Six of those have come in front of the paying customers at MSG. So that is tough. Uh 24-hour span. They get spanked by the Ducks 4 to1. And this is their response. And this is with Mika Zabinad back in the lineup after he uh was suspended by the team for a game for missing a team meeting. And uh >> he said he got stuck in traffic. >> He said he’s like, I know it. I’ve been here for 10 years. Like I know it, but I got stuck in traffic. Uh, and so, you know, the [laughter] the very volatile JT Miller can’t be having a ton of fun. Um, he hasn’t done a ton offensively, but in a game like this one, JT plays 22 minutes and 21 seconds, three shots, seven attempts. We talked about uh there was the one shift there when he was buzzing. Obviously, he’s part of the power play. uh he’s out there trying, but uh just this team for whatever reason cannot find uh its offense on home ice. And so the frustration will continue there for uh well everybody top to bottom. Mike Sullivan, the head coach. >> That’s what I was just going to I was just going to say that Mike Sullivan, you don’t bring him in not to win and compete in the playoffs and and finish near the bottom of the standings. You bring him in to try and win a Stanley Cup. So they’re going to have to turn things around fairly quickly in New York. >> Yeah, we’ll see. uh you know some suggestion that they were kicking tires along with other teams on on Quinn Hughes. Now Adam Fox out of their lineup he will come back but he’s probably not back until the new year now and that hurts. He’s uh second leading scoreer on their team. He’s having a a nice season for them. Uh and he’s the kind of guy you don’t replace. Like they don’t have another Adam Fox waiting in the wings and so um you know they’re going to have to grind through without their top defenseman. That’s just life in today’s National Hockey League for so many teams around this league. Uh taking a look under the hood, the underlying numbers in this hockey game. Uh Liam Ogrren and Lenus Carlson were the two low ice time guys, but uh they were the Corsy Kings for the Vancouver Conucks who again got outshot. Uh didn’t generate much. What did they have? They had 10 shots in Jersey at five on five. Uh they outdid themselves. They had 15. A whole 15. They’ve had 25 five-on-5 shots in the last two hockey games. So again, uh it’s not the way that you draw up victories in the National Hockey League, but they have found a way here to start the road trip. Uh at the other end of the scale here, tough night for Tom Valander. Um and really DPD and paired together. They didn’t play a ton, but uh for Vander, uh the shot attempts were 13 to four in favor of the Rangers. The actual shots were six-2. no blood cuz he wasn’t on the ice for any of the goals at five on five. So, uh >> there was that one shift that him and Bu got absolutely pinned in their own end. >> No, that was that second period where they you’re right and guys on the broadcast were noting conducts are dying to get a line change and they just couldn’t. They had a couple of failed clearing attempts and so uh yeah, it uh another you know on the job learning here uh for the young defenseman on the Canucks blue line. All right. Uh busy night around the National Hockey League. We talked about the fact that yes, the Canucks get a victory, their next opponent loses. We’ll fill you in and paint a little bit of a picture of the season that the New York Islanders have had here uh momentarily. Uh a milestone night uh for Leon Dryidle gets to a thousand points as the Oilers power play was humming against Stu Skinner and the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-4. lots of offense in that hockey game, but uh the Oilers do come out on top. Uh and Quinn Hughes is going to be 2 and0 as a member of the Minnesota Wild. He hasn’t scored, but his team pumping the Washington Capitals four zip as we sit here on the live stream. So, uh Kucks are happy with the return and uh Minnesota Wild just continue to roll. Uh and it’s funny because the Wild came through Vancouver and that was the night Ratu scored and Vander scored. Um, and Minnesota didn’t look very good that night, but that is one of three regulation losses in the last like 21 games for the Minnesota Wild. So, like they’re rolling and now they inject Quinn Hughes and it’s like turbo boost. Uh, going to be interesting to see uh where it goes from here for the Minnesota Wild, but they’re up four nothing on the Washington Capital. So, we’re taking a look at some of the scores on the out of town scoreboard, and I know you’ve got your eye uh on some action still to come. Well, in the days ahead here. >> Absolutely. >> Uh it is time for our bet 365 line of the night. >> Well, first of all, I don’t like to do this often because it doesn’t happen often, but I’m going to gloat. Yesterday’s game, yesterday’s game, three dogs, baby, that hit. If you took the Ottawa Senators, if you took I can’t even remember what it was, the Florida Panthers. And the third team was it was someone I can’t even remember what the third team was. >> You got me. >> I got me. I got myself too. Anyways, let’s go for tomorrow night. Uh Kings as a dog against the Florida Panthers. I like that. The Winnipeg Jets. Oh, the Winnipeg Jets lost to the Ottawa Senators. That was that. Carolina Hurricanes at home taking a lot of teams against the Nashville Predators. And the Vegas Golden Knights at home to the New Jersey Devils. So, a little four-game parlay. Well, 758. Hey, and make sure that you follow Rinkwide on all of our socials. Particularly, they make a point of subscribing to the Rinkwide YouTube channel. Uh when the conducts are at home, and they’re not home now till after Christmas, but when they’re home, uh we have been producing practice reports, including some footage of uh the practice and uh postpractice locker room scrums as well. So, we’re branching out a little. We’re not just uh we’re not just a live stream uh after games anymore, but uh in order to make sure you don’t miss uh any of the content that we’re pushing out, uh yeah, absolutely. Subscribe to our Rinkwide YouTube channel. All right, so it is I think tomorrow is the day off. >> It was the Ducks to beat the Rangers. >> Ah, yeah. Well, there you go. Um, so I think Wednesday is the scheduled day off for the Canucks and then Thursday will be a practice and they will get back at it on Friday against this Islander team that’s coming off the 3-2 loss in Detroit. Still though, Islanders have kind of quietly gone about their business. Matthew Schaefer has completely train changed the trajectory uh of that organization. Now again, you hope that B’s not out too long and just having an incredible season with his 19 goals. So obviously they’re going to miss him, but uh you know he’ll I’m sure be disappointed that he doesn’t get a chance to face off against his his former team. Ducks or the Islanders rather are 1912 and three on the season. They had a three-game win streak snapped tonight, but uh they’ve won six of their last eight, so they’re playing well. And Matthew Schaefer a huge part of that. Nine goals, 23 points as an 18-year-old defenseman in the National Hockey League. He’s third among rookies and leads all rookies in Dman. And I was looking at this uh with Bouam now on the job and Tom Vander as well. Three of the top six rookie defenseman scoring leaders will be in that game on Friday. So future will be on display uh going at it at UBS Arena. Uh without Horvat, Matt Barzel uh he is the de facto leader offensively 25 points then Schaefer at 23. And without Horvat Emil Heinman having a heck of a season uh as well. I think he scored again tonight if I’m not mistaken. He had one of the Islander goals he did. So, he’s up to 11 on the season now. Far cry from the 19 that Bo Horvat’s got. You don’t replace those 19 goals uh the way Bo has been going, but uh Heinman’s doing his part and he’s up to 11 now. And I Sroken’s been awfully good. And >> David Red still grinding out an NHL career. Uh I don’t know. Again, there’s enough days off here that uh Sroen probably will be in goal on Friday, I would imagine. But, uh, we’ll see what Patrick Wah does there. Uh, but it’s funny. I was just looking at David Richish and, um, he’s played for six NHL teams. >> Calgary. >> Yeah. >> LA. >> Mhm. >> The Islanders. >> Now the Islanders. >> Now the Islanders. Who are the other three? I have no idea. >> Toronto briefly. >> Oh, wow. >> Nashville. And he was in Winnipeg as well. >> There no chance I would have got those three, >> right? He started 48 games in Calgary one season. >> I remember that. >> Like I don’t think of him being like an absolute workhorse number one, but he was for the Calgary Flames in the uh season that was cut short by CO. So I don’t know. I’m not sure why we’re going down David Rick Boulevard. >> May might see him on Friday, but something tells me it’ll be Sroen. >> Yeah, the Islanders. I mean, look, Kuck fans aren’t going to want to hear this because of they just won two games, but it’s insane how a number one overall draft pick can change the trajectory of the team right away. I mean, obviously, Matthew Shaver is is an elite talent and if Gavin McKenna is as advertised, things can completely change, but I credit a lot of it to Matthew Dar and what he’s done and been able to come in and it’s a completely different culture there. talking to people with the Islanders organization. Um, look, I mean, Lou is Lamar Melo is it’s it’s a lot of, you know, put your work boots on and go to work. The Islanders having a lot of fun. There’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot of They’re doing like a lot of behind thes scenes content, all sorts of stuff, a lot of team stuff. Um, those guys out there are just having a really good time and the fan base is loving it yet again. Um, down in Long Island. Um, that arena is great. Haven’t I haven’t been, but what I’ve heard it’s it is an awesome place to to go watch a hockey game. So, it should be good on Friday night. Yeah, that was one of the few that I haven’t been to. Uh it was coming online uh when I was out there traveling just before CO, but uh I saw them play at Barkclays, but I have not been to uh UBS. But I I will say this about Schaefer, like obviously a first overall pick. Like you’re an incredible prospect for a reason, but remember like he missed so much time in his draft year with injuries. like I just thought that that was going to be difficult for him to make up uh this quickly, but it’s like he didn’t miss a beat and then jumped right into the National Hockey League and hasn’t looked back. And so uh you know, I’m not surprised that he’s on the path to being this incredible player. I am surprised that it’s happened this quickly for him, but I just think it’s really cool that Islanders were one of those organizations that sort of was uh spinning its wheels. They needed a boost. And so, you know, every time the lottery balls fly, like there’s always a couple teams you’re like, “Ah, I don’t want them to win.” I had no problem. When the Islanders won the draft lottery, I thought, “All right, it’s kind of cool.” And they could use the shot in the arm and they’ve got it uh from Matthew Schaefer. So, I’m looking forward to seeing him against the Vancouver Conucks for the first time in the National Hockey League on Friday. Uh Vancouver Conucks heating up whether people like it or not. [laughter] Uh they’ve won two in a row now to start this road trip. And since the big trade on Friday, dust continuing to settle there, but uh does look like the new guys are settling in. Two of them already scored for the Canucks. And you know, hopefully for Marco Rossy, he doesn’t have to go too long before he finds the back of the net for the first time in Canuck colors. Evander Kane, his sixth of the year, Liam Ogran with his first. And Connor Garland into the empty net, his seventh of the season. Thatcher Demco 23 saves, his first shut out. The team’s first shut out of the season. They beat the Rangers by a score of three to zip. All right, couple days between games, but we’ll reconvene and we’ll do this again on Friday afternoon. It’s a 4:00 faceoff and then we’ll have inquired immediately after. So hopefully you uh will make plans to join us back to back coming up here Friday on the island Saturday in Boston. And a reminder, Kucks Army watch party on Saturday. So uh join us down at Greta. uh you know, we’ll get into the uh spirit of the season and hopefully have some fun watching uh the Canucks and Boston on Saturday. All right, that’s going to do it for us here. Uh Jake Fraser behind the scenes helping out producing the program and we appreciate his assistance on all of this for I’m Jeff the final again, the Vancouver Conucks 3, the New York Rangers, no score. That’s going to do it for this episode of Rinkwide Vancouver.

Loving the streams Jeff and Irf 💪🙂
Everyday they play or keep demko , there losing 6 points a months on the march to 1st overall.
Guys complaining about Kane. He's 2 points from being the 2nd leading scorer on the team
u guys are not pronouncing thatcher demko's name properly,
its
SNACTHER DEMKO !!
Despite his incredible skill Hughs wasn't a great captain. He's an undeniable play maker but not much of a leader off the ice. I've missed other players who got traded far more than I'll miss Hughs.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Hughes got a goal in game 1 and a nice assist in game 2. One of the very few players in Wild history to get points in their first two games with the team.
Jeff you have the best voice in the game
Demko didn't get the memo.
Jeff why does it sound like someone is squeezing ur balls when u talk?
And yet the Sabres have two 1st overall picked defensemen and……. 😂
Demko … Embrace the tank … ??? Can we get Lankinen in there?!?
