Drake Maye’s “MVP” Season compared to Brock Purdy’s 2023 Season
January 1, 2026
Both played 16 games. Brock’s passing stats are better, Drake’s rushing numbers are better. Does Drake deserve MVP this year? Should Brock have won it in 2023?

He was close, than he got shafted by the ravens on Christmas….
Yes. He was historically efficient in 2023 and was absolutely robbed by the fallacy that you need to beat the other candidate head to head.
This is a pretty down year for MVP. But Maye’s 2025 season beats out Purdy’s 2023 season IMO. Maye’s done more with less this year and still wins out in stats.
With that, Purdy is playing better than Maye at the moment so I don’t care about MVP.
I was reading a thread in the NFL sub yesterday and a lot of Pats fans were arguing Maye is the MVP due to advanced stats (YPA, passer rating, etc.). I found that pretty funny because no one cared when Purdy had a historical 2023 by advanced stats.
Unfortunately for Purdy, he had that big Monday Night Game against Baltimore late in the season. After those 4 interceptions, there was no way he was going to win MVP.
This just is not how MVPs work. Sometimes the MVP is an all time great. Sometimes it’s just who ever didn’t ruin their case. There is great variance and Drake or Stafford or whoever getting it this year doesn’t make Brock not getting it in 2023 wrong
All star thanos gauntlet team and a team with average talent at best,
Maye with that 2023 team would look like the greatest QB of all time.
Dude. Did you just re post my post from 2 days ago?
Drake deserves it this year, Brock deserved at least AP2 in 2023.
Who? Boston has a football team?
No, in all likelihood, it’s going to Stafford.
Purdy was up against 2023 competition, Maye was up against 2025 competition.
Maybe has way less talent around him than what Brock had then. Also the Ravens game sunk Brock’s chances.
MVP is a media and narrative award as much as it is a stats award.
Brock lost it when we got blown out by the Ravens around Christmas.
If we win that game, he’s MVP that year.
But have you considered that Brock lost one game against Lamar Jackson? Meanwhile, talking heads don’t hold Stafford’s dogshit game against ATL against him but crucified Purdy for the same against Baltimore in 2023 and against Carolina this year (a game that he won).

The rushing difference is significant.
