Could Tatsuya Imai Be the Mets’ New Year’s Surprise? | MLB Arsenal Breakdown & Free Agency BUZZ

Tatsuya Imai’s MLB future hangs in the balance as the New York Mets weigh whether to make a franchise-shifting move before his posting window closes.

Could Imai’s electric arsenal and rising fastball give the Mets the frontline starter they need, or will front office hesitation see him go elsewhere?

Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down Imai’s standout 2025 NPB numbers, analyzes how his arm slot changes and unique pitch mix might translate to MLB, and explores the contract and posting fee hurdles that have cooled big-market demand.

Key questions swirl around the Mets’ rotation plans—should they gamble on Imai’s upside or double down on Kodai Senga’s proven ghost fork?

With options like Framber Valdez lingering and young arms Brandon Sproat, Jonah Tong, and Nolan McLean waiting in the wings, Ryan Finkelstein examines roster flexibility, draft pick implications, and what front office silence could signal about the Mets’ true strategy for 2026.

  1. Happy New Year! Stearns will sign Gallen just to be unique! He is bizarre! If he does that, I'm out! Will never watch professional baseball again, just little league! No drama! I'll bet Stearns never played little league, too weak!

  2. The fan base isn't paying the salaries nor do they have a clue as to the team plan. Real fans will still come to the game. Oh, and stop blaming Pete for Senga's injury. Senga needs to be supervised in his off season workouts. He was not in shape..

  3. Stop the gas lighting they ain’t getting shit the plan was to shed salary without improving the team. It was a real dirty move never addressed the biggest problem on the team the pitching. Yeah now when nobody comes out this year let’s blame the fans nice. You’ve already got your shitty casino mission accomplished.

  4. Here we go….. the constant cry and reach for this organization to answer all of your dreams. Bro… ur a smart baseball guy but u allow the emotions of being a Met fan get in the way of ur judgement. Its always cloudy. Open up those sleepy eyes. They’re done . Not signing any big names or stars. Yes maybe some depth pieces here or there but nothing thats gonna wow. I guarantee they’ll be no Belli, no Tuck, no trade for Skubal or Skenes. No Framber or anything else out there either in the US or Japan. What u see now is what’s gonna be there in Spring Training with the young guns getting opportunities to play if they do well. Sterns said from the first time he got here. He’s gonna give young players chances to play. U cant sign every free agent available just because the owner is filthy rich and still allow prospects opportunities…… He will maybe go after a big fish next year. This season is
RF Soto ( team destroyer )
    CF ?? ( prospect )
    LF ?? ( prospect )
    3B Baty/Vientos
SS Lindy ( gone next year per Soto request )
    2B Simien
    1B Polanco/Prospect
    C Alvy/Torrens

Pitching is everything we had last year except now we start year with Nolan and maybe Sproat or Tong. Thats it…… thats what it is wake up, smell the roses its clear as day. No need to guess or hope for anything else. This is it. 4th place team. Hopefully the team destroyer Soto can carry them all by himself since that’s what he wanted… to be the main man. Well he got his wish. Everyone better hopes hes an All Star every year until he’s able to opt out because if not….. this will go down as a disaster contract. Mets better get out of it and allow him to opt out and say thanks for a good 5 yrs. Peace Out !!!!!
