Chris Mannix: “I can tell you with certainty that the Mavericks have been trying to pry away that New Orleans Pelicans pick from the Hawks for some time now…”

  1. If you are going to trade AD, doing it for a second lottery pick this year is the best outcome possible.

  2. Ask yourself if you’d give up the possibility of a top 5 pick for Anthony Davis and then think about the Hawks point of view.

  3. Doubt the pelicans are gonna end up top 5 odds. They have 0 incentive to tank

  4. Man if we land the NO pick then we are set and should fully tank. Ours or NO should be a top 5 pick.

  5. I like the idea someone suggested where we get the right to swap it. That way we end up with the highest pick and they still get a high pick cause of our record. Still think it’s very unlikely

  6. It would be a dream if we had two top 10 picks. If the NOP pick doesn’t work out (very, very unlikely), we could offer PJ in the summer to get into the top 10 again alongside our pick (I hope we finally start refueling). PJ and Cooper don’t complement each other very well.

Cooper, 2x top 10 picks, Max, Lively, and Nembhard. That would be a great way to start fresh!

  7. There’s absolutely no way the Hawks trade that Pels pick for AD.  Okongwu would be the get for AD, but the Hawks won’t do that either.  They’d like to pair them defensively.  The best the Mavs can hope for from ATL in an AD deal is this trade:

AD, BWill, and Hardy for Trae, Asa Newell, and Luke Kennard (expiring)

Kyrie is likely out for the season.  Say what you want about Trae’s defense, offensively he is an all time great scorer and passer at PG.  Steve Nash level, and it’s not debatable.  Newell is a big time talent!  Coop at the 3 and Newell at the 4 is crazy length and athleticism, and they’re 19 & 20.  I can see Trae, Kyrie, PJ, Coop, and Newell on the court together and working.  The question is with PJ, Coop, Newell, Gaff, and DLive can they make up defensively for undersized Trae and Kai.  I say yes, do the deal!

  8. AD is still a top 20 player and you’re taking back no rotational players like Porzingus. I mean it’s a heavy price but we’ve seen plenty of high draft bust, it’s a gamble. I wonder if the Mavs would do the most favorable out if they do a swap with the Pels pick. One way for the Hawks to give away that pick while also having a fairly high Mavs pick this year.
