“Do We Care?”: The Timberwolves Sit at a Crossroads
January 1, 2026
As the calendar flips to 2026, Rudy Gobert and the rest Timberwolves are trying to figure out who they are.

Gobert’s full quote included in my piece from last night in Atlanta: “”Do we care? Does something happen when we like we played the first quarter tonight? Or is it just cool? Make a lot of money, we play basketball, do what we do and go home and be happy. I think that’s the fine line between a team that’s playing for a championship and a team that’s full of talent but doesn’t accomplish shit.”
That Gobert line is aimed at exactly 1 person on the roster; Randle. The moment you realise he’s exactly what D’lo was for us, obviously better, and how people make the same excuses you notice this team is going nowhere with him on the roster.
Bunch of moody guys who have secured the bag. I don’t think they’re “lazy” in the traditional sense. But Jaden, Julius, and Naz are the culprits in my eyes.
All great players, but they are not exactly rally the troops type players. Maybe they don’t care, but the lackadaisical showings are going to lead to somebody getting traded.
Players who clearly care:
Ant
Rudy
Dante (even though he bricks too much)
Naz (yes he’s been bad but his sister just died, he clearly cares)
Mike
The rookies
Players who clearly don’t always care:
Randle
Jaden
I hate the body language of this team so much. I’m sure they can turn it up for the playoffs, but it’s really not a good sign to see a team coasting like this. Sad to see what this team has become at the moment when they used to bring so much energy and hustle. This team has got to get back to who they used to be, and I just think it’s beyond pathetic that guys who make endless millions won’t put in good effort. Should just go back to paying these guys pennies and maybe they’ll give a crap.

Coaching changes won’t fix that shit but a trade of the “low care” player(s) may certainly go a long way in fixing it.
Nothing more frustrating than watching a clearly talented team lose games because they can’t be bothered to care. You’re entitled to miss shots, you’re not entitled to take the game for granted.
I don’t know about you all, but this is my favorite sport in the world and they’ve been disrespecting it.
In my opinion, there seems to be at least one player that is causing a lot of the issues. The team seems to be upset and in a funk. I think most fans would say that the player is Randle and I would agree. Obviously he isn’t the only issue and we have worse players, but his energy/aura appears to be rubbing players the wrong way. I don’t know if this is related, but I have never seen Jaden give up on plays prior to this stretch. In Rudy’s most recent locker room interview, he seems to wait for a teammate to walk by, which happens to be Randle, and you can tell he is censoring what he really wants to say. Maybe I am way off base here, but it appears to be another D’lo situation. If it is, it really hurts because trading Randle will make our team worse from a basketball skill perspective but it could unlock a lot if it allows other players to play free.
Ik them end of the bench guys care. Time for the staff to make an example out of some guys and sit they ass. Even that may not work tho
Missed the game yesterday(fuck working in the restaurant industry) wtf happened? I saw ant had 20 at half time and he finished with 30. He was shooting great why didn’t he take more shots?
I like Julius Randall and think he can be a piece but I do think he battles either some depression or ADHD or something because that man’s energy is very inconsistent. The Timberwolves should play a lot like the Pistons. They should be a rowdy Bunch. They should file hard and get the little scuffles and really have a bad boys type attitude. It’s when they play their best. Those two first playoff games in Denver are exactly the type of team that I feel like they should play like. Annoying scrappy, physical, regardless of which way the game is being called.
When you watch the really good teams in the NBA right now, they all have one thing in common . They set the tone of the game they make officials adjust to their style of play so much so that the officials become used to the style they play and I believe it benefits them greatly you see it with OKC you see it with the Pacers even the Spurs have this Kind of energy and sometimes even the knicks do even though it’s not as much this year.
I wish the Timberwolves would get players that would help this identity grow on the Timberwolves . Players like Najee Marshall. José Alvarado, Bobby Portis.. and I know he’s not in the league but PJ Tucker. I know Pat Bev could be stupid and is a POS but you have to admit when he was on the team. They did have this bad boys type attitude that made everyone wanna hustle. You need guys like that on a basketball team. It wakes people up. I see Julius Randall as a player who could be like that, but he just never really has been so consistently especially on defense and I doubt that’s gonna happen anytime soon.
And also when we’re just chucking up threes, it makes everybody lazy . They’re giving us those three-point shots. A lot of teams know that if we’re not hitting them, it just kills our energy and drive. We need to be more physical and when we get blown out by bad teams it’s because we’re just going through the motions and playing with no physicality
They did nothing to improve so I do not care. This team is good but will never be great. They just don’t come to play every night and it’s a shame
It’s so sad that we are debating on if they care enough to win. If they don’t care about winning, then they are essentially just stealing our money. Every single game should matter to them.
