Somehow 20+ years have gone by since I have been to a game at Fenway. We are visiting Boston in April, and I am hoping to get tickets during the Brewers series (April 6-8). What is the best way to buy tickets? Should I just go through StubHub or a similar site? Are those tickets legit? Are there better ways to buy? Thanks in advance for your help!

As a tax, here is a photo of Carlton Fisk throwing out the first pitch on the day his jersey was retired! (I am pretty sure Luis Tiant caught the pitch!) This is from the era when cameras weren't as good.

  1. They should go in sale through Red Sox site as early as mid to late January – February. Get them there.

  2. Wait until.after the first inning and go buy scalpers tickets. Unfortunately, if you are from out of town, that’s the best way to get good seats. Generally stub hub or scalpers buy them up before you have a chance.

They will generally give you some value for your tickets, but I’ve got great tickets using this approach and I’m not extremely wealthy. Sat in box seats the night the retired Rice’s jersey for example. I think I had grandstand seats, traded them and paid another 75-100. Have gotten standing room monster tickets for about the same.

At the intersection of Ipswich and Van Ness is where I generally went. I moved west unfortunately and haven’t been back to a game in some time.

That said, I have sat all over Fenway and have enjoyed every seat.

  3. You’ll save time and money by purchasing directly from the Red Sox when they open up single game tickets, opening day is a tough one to get but the rest of that series should be easy to get at face value. As mentioned they’ll announce April May and September games going onsale shortly

  4. I would buy direct from the Red Sox and MLB.com. They have three ticket releases for each third of the season (two months). Last year April and May tickets went on sale January 11th. June and July on February 8th. August and September on March 11th.

I’d go to [redsox.com](http://redsox.com) and subscribe to get email alerts and they’ll email about ticket sales.

There are also stadium giveaways (SGA) and theme nights. The giveaways don’t need a special ticket and are usually limited to the first 7,500 people, the gates open 1.5hr before start time. The theme nights need to be purchased through the Red Sox website and you’re guaranteed a theme item.
