REALITY CHECK: New Orleans Pelicans Fans Must FACE Harsh Truth About Playoff Hopes
New Orleans Pelicans’ five-game losing streak exposes harsh truths: this roster isn’t ready to contend, and a win-now move could derail the franchise’s rebuild. Is management’s belief in a quick turnaround putting long-term success at risk? Jake Madison argues the Pelicans must resist trading future draft assets for short-term gains.
Major discussion points cover Zion Williamson’s standout performance vs. the Bulls, struggles of rookies Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, and why Jonathan Kuminga could be a smart buy-low trade target—if he accepts an Aaron Gordon-style role. With insights on emerging talents like Noah Clowney, Deni Avdija, and Nikola Jovic, the episode explores whether patience can help New Orleans build a real contender. Will the Pelicans’ front office learn from Oklahoma City Thunder’s slow-build approach, or repeat their own costly mistakes?

Love the podcast keep bringing the truth!
Have we had any trade offers of any kind yet?
This organization needs to be cleaned of all the Willie Green and David Griffin individuals from top to bottom all the goody two shoe players need to get up out of here to quote Master p we only want dawgs
If you're not going to leave it all out on the court you don't need to be here pointbank bottom line every year it's always next year they are killing the fan base and it's spirit
There focus needs to be on building around fears & Queens and trying to get that big money off the books that's coming off the bench.
Kuminga is a bad idea for this team. Bad fit with Zion and Queen.
Kuminga is a ball stopper and wants to get up shots.
Kuminga can not help the Pelicans! He another young player with upside with no clutch player identity as a NBA player!
Too many GIANT offensive liabilities that are barely average on D at the 5 position screws everything up. 20 minutes of 4 (or 3) on 5 and when Missi and Looney are both on the court is moronic. Karlo needs minutes. At least he has some variance and scoring skills on offense. He helped in the 5-game winning streak. He's been rendered extinct in the past few games while they lose. And the big men that drive to the hoop all game are rendering Fears useless from the outside … I like his shot making ability from 3, and the team is near last in 3s. I feel like I'm witnessing a collective coaching IQ of only slightly better than the Willie Green era. From 2 standard deviations lower than the norm to about 1.5. From 20-25 wins to 30. Great, from last to 13th place. 3 point defense and 3 point offense is so consistently horrendous…it's an unnecessary -10 to -25 hole, every freaking game. Start there, while dealing with too many big men driving into walls, ignoring Fears and the 3, more Karlo, and throw in Queen not starting…more effective as a change of pace type. He's not exactly killing it on D either. Karlo, Z, Poole, Bey, Herb or Trey. That's my starting 5 at the moment. Bring in Fears and Queen. Coaches and vets size up the opposite for them as the game flows. I've only been watching basketball since 1967. This roster is good, but they're underachieving, to say the least. Borrego may be better as an assistant, that jury is still out. Thanks for the soapbox.
I’m guessing the vision of Kuminga at the 4 working next to Queen at the 5 doesn’t include Zion in it.
At the end of the day This team is small and lazy They need a hustle player who can rebound and be physical and play with effort… They need a dawg who steps up in the clutch since Zion doesn't… Too many injuries to key players… They are only gonna be Soo good continually playing with backup guys as starters… Unless this team can get all of their starters healthy and on the floor at the same time, you cannot make a true assessment of who this team is….Looney was a horrible FA signing idk what Joe Dumars was thinking… I'm not mad at the Queen for an unprotected 1st trade because I think he has a high ceiling down the road… I prefer Aaron Gordon over Kuminga or some player like that but I'm basically accepting this team for who they are and you should too…
We actually need an iso player. Even at 3rd option, like you said at the end of possessions you need that. I’ll trade Zion for Kuminga+ more
Blazers on deck. The Pelicans better bring it. Portland has been playing a serious brand of Sprint & Splash offense to go with pesky defense. Add to that the Blazers flop everywhere. The refs won't be friendly tomorrow
Haaa, bruh… we been know'd
Z 31pts
JP 26pts
Trey and the Rooks are a no show
Jake: ok, let’s talk Kuminga trades…
