Settling The Debate: Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson?

Not sure this dude is much different than any of us, but this seems to be a pretty decent aggregate of scouting reports and probably the most efficient way to see good and bad clips from both.

Generally speaking, I think these are guys you want to take around 15 to 20, but this draft doesn't seem that strong at the top, so top 5 doesn't seem like a reach. Hey you gotta draft somebody. Tate spreads the field, Tyson will go get you a first down on 3rd and 5.

I'm currently on the Bain Train and then hope you can get a Germie Bernard type player, but I wouldn't smash my phone over either of these guys.

  1. IMO Tyson has much higher potential and is a top 5 talent if healthy. He will win the 50/50 balls. For that reason I’d take Tyson for WR1. I also have Lemon over Tate.

  2. Unfortunately I dont think there is a receiver in this draft that deserves a top 15 pick. For that reason, I think we should either go Edge, Arvell Reese or Caleb Downs.

I know Downs wouldnt be the most popular pick, but he truly is the only blue chip talent in this draft class. If you ignore position and go BPA, its him.

  3. I’ve been vacillating wildly between Tate and Tyson the last few days. Until I saw Tyson’s highlight reel.

Tate looks good. He looks like a good receiver. Will probably be a rock solid WR.

Tyson is just on another level. He’s one of those guys that just moves differently. It’s a bit like Ward in that yeah, it might not work out, but he’s got some natural instinct stuff that if used correctly, he’ll be an incredible player. He’s got top 5 potential. He’d be the no questions asked WR1 without the injury history.

I think you just have to take a chance on Tyson and hope for the best on the health stuff. I’m also fine if it’s Tate, but I REALLY like Tyson.

I don’t think Bain makes it to us at #4, Lawrence, Bain, Burns would be an uncomfortably good DL, and even that’s assuming Carter doesn’t get his shit together. I don’t know if the Giants can pass on that. Downs would be a lame pick, but we do have big holes at safety. I just don’t think safety helps us at all.

  4. I’m a nobody so take this with a grain of salt, but I’m rebuilding in one of my dynasty leagues and have a ton of draft picks so decided to get really in the weeds on some of these offensive guys. I subscribed to dynasty nerds to get access to All 22, and plan on watching all the game film of a single prospect per day until my league’s dynasty draft. I just finished Tyson yesterday. To be honest, I was pretty underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, he is shifty AF, and he creates easy separation on short and intermediate routes. He CAN create that same type of separation on deep routes if he’s given space and allowed to run at the DB. Like the dude in the link mentioned, there were several instances on tape where the CB passed him off to the deep safety, Tyson ran right at the safety, timed his juke to perfection, had that safety in a blender and was wide open deep. On the flip side though, his play strength was bad. If the opposing team played man coverage and the CB got his hands on Tyson, he got zero separation, and I mean zero. I’m also curious to see what his 40 is going to look like because he had a few reps that I think he should have housed but got caught and tackled from behind. He looked more shifty than fast to me. He also rarely won 50/50 balls. Again, I think that’s just a play strength issue. To be fair, I don’t think ASU did him any favors. He didn’t really have a lot of YAC on film but that could have been because the ball consistently got to him just a tick late and he’d often have to adjust to a catch rather than catching it in stride. That makes his “YAC-ability” hard to evaluate imo. That said, for as shifty as he is with his routes, I didn’t really see him put a move on a defender and get by him. I want to wait for combine results before making any firm judgements to get the whole picture of who he is as an athlete, but from film alone, he looks to me like he’ll be pretty scheme dependent in the NFL. Personally, I think he’s best working out of the slot. I could see a world where our OC schemes up ways to get him into space and he cooks with his route running. I think Cam is a good QB for him because I think he’ll get him the ball on time. But if we expect him to come in and be a traditional, alpha outside receiver then I think he’ll struggle. He seems more like an above average WR2 than a WR1 to me, maybe somewhere in between Devonta Smith and Jordan Addison. Don’t know if I see top 5-10 in the NFL ceiling for him unless he gets stronger and starts to fight through contact a bit better.

  5. Tyson all day long. I have more faith in a talented player overcoming injuries than I do a less talented player turning into an all-pro.

  6. I think Tate, Tyson and Lemon will all at least be good 2nd options on an offense.

People are overreacting way too much to Tate having a bad game. Tysons injuries scare me but he’s my #1. Tate has the most upside I think as he can win down field better and has more play strength. Lemon isn’t the prototype as a 1 but his game is a lot like JSN’s (although he’s smaller) but he’s elite with the ball in his hands.

Ideally we address WR enough in free agency by signing two of Alec Pierce, Juwan Jennings, Wandale Robinson, Romeo Doubs, Shaheed, Deebo or Mike Evans, that we don’t HAVE to go WR in round 1.

I also think we should keep Calvin Ridley, even though that’s a hot take.

  7. Tysons repeat injuries scare me.

I’d rather take an Edge and grab someone like Chris Bell at the top of the 2nd and do whatever it takes to sign Alec Pierce in the off season.
