You gotta see how the Habs comeback this time…
The Canadiens opened 2026 with a wild 7–5 road win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. After falling behind early, Montreal stormed back thanks to a barrage of offense from across the lineup. Cole Caufield scored his 20th of the season and Josh Anderson scored just 23 seconds later in the second to flip the momentum. Juraj Slafkovsky, Sammy Blais, and rookie defenseman Lane Hutson each finished with a goal and an assist, while Ivan Demidov and Alexandre Texier chipped in two assists apiece. Goalie Jakub Dobes made 20 saves to secure the victory. Notably, this was Montreal’s first win in Carolina since 2016 and extended their point streak to seven games. On the Hurricanes side, Sebastian Aho was spectacular with five points (2G, 3A), but the Canes still came up short.

Exciting game in a completely different way from the last one – it was ALSO frustrating. Let me know what you thought of the game AND don't forget to like the video!
Thanks as always!

8:24 we need more of that… this is why i liked florian. Need some kind of physical presence to force mistakes
Felt bad for doby on this game. So many tipped pucks, bad angles, and hung out to dry once or twice
12:08 Anderson read that d man like a neon bar sign… lol 😂
What happens for 2nd half slaf this year? He always picks it up as the season goes and thats gotta be scary.
I need that slaf with a jagr mullet image
it went off dobson
Kapanen is good. I like him. Exciting game.
Love that Line.
Slaf's 9 sec.trip…
A soir on Avait vraiment des bon ATATATATAQUANT , BRA BRA , [Gun sound] *
GG
The Slav monster came out to play last night. But what is with these scores? Montreal and the Canadian Jr team! Like my beer league, last shot wins.
Carrier and Hutson together in the d zone is a bad thing
I have a friend from High School and she was at the game as she lives in SC. I didn't get a report yet, but she was there with her Canadiens gear on. This team frustrating and fun to watch. Not 80s Oilers hockey yet, but it feels like it. You score 3, we score 4, you score 5, we score 7. Leads mean nothing at this point.
Slaf is still at the end of the day a 1 of 1 pick in draft . Anything could have happen and oh boy its happening the right way .
Hello Whiskeylung!! It's always a real pleasure listening to your podcast. You have a really enjoyable way of presenting everything! Thanks, and may 2026 take the HABS far in the playoffs!!🏒
Xhekaj got a slashing penalty, but he's not the one whose did the slashing! His partner did.
On the 4th goal, the puck was headed top left corner, got deflected top right corner. There was nothing Dobes could have done. Not his fault. In fact he played really well, and 3 of the 4 goals were deflections.
Why the inconsistency and messed up play?
In the words of MSL after the game "it was new years eve last night, I'll leave it at that"
If this team could only learn to play team defense. They would be an incredible team to watch. Like watching a team from the 70’s.
Carolina is the same as Toronto all show no go. Always have been this way, going way back to Hartford Whaler days. Always gave the Habs a go too. Since back in those days.
I agree, Dobeš ' early success came about from his ability to position himself, square himself to the shot and close off the gaps. On the fourth 'Canes goal it looked to me as though he was far too loose and far too lackadaisical in his positioning, as if he didn't think the Carolina player was going to shoot. My impression is that he lacks focus a little bit.
First NHL match I was actually tilted for the whole game, Hurricanes kept doing diving / embellishments, they were hit a little their stick flew away and they fell on the ice like they were 5yo skating for the first time.. Such a disgrace, at one point 3rd period one guy is beefing with Xhekaj and when he actually does something the hurricanes guy backs off with the same look Jake Paul had on his face during Joshua fight… Texier penality was bull, you have a jackstrap and a chest protection, Texier barely lifts his stick up and you fold up like a house of cards !! I'm happy MTL won cuz hurricanes in no mean earned something here, they played like peewee, gallagher walking on people, Slav taking the puck from his own end and walking around the whole team to put it in, Mtl was the better team by far and hurricanes should have gotten diving / embellishment calls..
Why do I want to play Ocarina of Time all of a sudden?
I think Kapanen is exactly where he should be. He is being carried offensively by Slaf and Demidov, but it's like Whiskeylung said, he's putting himself where he needs to be. He's good defensively, might need to get better at the face-off dot but is doing great as a rookie.
People say Hage should replace him, but I see Hage more as a winger in the NHL.
The 2nd pp goal went off Dobson
Well they certainly do know how to keep all of us on our tippy toes lately but wowsers what a game…again..
At least they started good this time…not liking the three goalie rotation myself… I don't understand why…i'd go with Dobes n Fowler..Montabeau makes me nervous…😮…but I do love n appreciate yer take on the games…go Habs….oh n the goal that Kapinon scored from Demi-God n Slap-Shotski 😂 was absolutely silky smooth as butter baby..
GO HABZ 🎉❤
I think the barometer for where this team is at, will be the Dallas game. They outclassed the Habs(in Montreal) and there was a lot of handwringing about goaltending, and the defense, if I remember correctly. And end of a grueling roadtrip. Biggest test of the season, I think
The Hurricanes could only score on the PP. So happy the see the boys keep coming back and whoop the Canes asses. Slaf is now in Slafzilla mode. Slaf coast to coast like butter on toast. Hutson with the 200ft shot on target. The RDS guys call the Slaf-Kappy-Demi line the "Trio de Jeunes" Trio of the young.
Only mid season, but Hughes should be considered GM of the year for Texier and Blais alone. Add to that Bolduc trade, Dobson, Hutson, Matheson signatures, tell me who did better work since this summer
Slaf slaps man so fun to see
Good song choice
why are u watching "World deadliest horse farts" @Wiskeylung
Kapanen going to the Olympics, let's go Finland!!!!
9:40 I feel like he didn’t want to over commit to the shot as he seen it was going wide. Over committing has been a problem with the goalies this year I find.
I enjoyed Nate Thompson on the broadcast
Good win for the Habs. Not a good game for the players on their transition play in the defensive zone. They really need to work on their positioning to have an effective defense presence. Too often they give too much space in the defensive zone. As if they think more about how they are gonna get back on offense when they are in their d zone instead of controlling the zone and getting back the possession of the puck. That kind of positioning has placed their goalies in a hard spot too often. Not a good game for Dobes. For his stats and for his place in the 3 goalies situation. He didn't really make game saves on this one. At least with the win that game might be quickly pushed aside and forgotten. Also felt like the players of the 2 teams celebrated a little bit too much during the past week.
