Not sure if I missed this, but Rancho Cucamonga Quakes quietly rebranded/introduced new unis 2 weeks ago. It was a weird 50/50 rebrand with the modern Angels look as well as a vintage halo look. I can’t find any info about this being a special alternate jersey. But it feels like they are preparing for a potential Angels rebrand down the road? ‘27/‘28? At that point, my guess is they can ditch the modern look. They also introduced a new retro “Rancho” wordmark as well as a new “Q” halo logo.

  1. It wasn’t a quiet rebrand. It was very public where the Dodgers and Angels switched AA teams. Angels are moving to Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Dodgers have the Inland Empire 66ers (I believe they rebranded to the Buzzers or something stupid like that).

  2. Not 100% sure, but I believe I read that the dodgers are creating a new team in Ontario and leaving the quakes, angels are taking back the quakes and leaving the 66ers. Not sure what is happening with the 66ers. Im assuming a west coast team, e.g. Seattle, the a’s, etc will pick them up.

  3. The reason for this is, is simple. The other LA team moved their CA League affiliate to Ontario and became the Ontario Tower Buzzers (old Quakes), the old 66ers (now Quakes) moved to Rancho Cucamonga, and the Modesto Nuts became the new 66ers under Seattle affiliation. Or in short LAD-ONT, LAA-RC, SEA-IE for affiliations.

  4. Nothing quiet about it, Dodgers and Angels switch minor league teams and in taking advantage of that Rancho Cucamonga updated their jerseys/look. I don’t believe this means the Angels will be updating their look at all, but i think we’re due for a new City Connect this year?

  5. This is a rebrand/new affiliation starting this season (2026). The Dodgers affiliation moved to the new Ontario team, Seattle is now affiliated with the 66ers and the Modesto Nuts no longer are in the Cal League (A Ball) or have an MLB affiliation.

The Quakes were previously an Angels affiliate as well, from like 2001-2010.

  6. I understand what you’re saying and had the same thought.

For everyone saying “they switched affiliates,” yes, we know, but OP is asking why they would go with the retro Angels look while rebranding affiliates.

They could have just decided it looks cool, but I’m also hoping the big league club embraces the throwbacks full time.

  7. I don’t think the minor league brand is associated much with the major league team

  8. i get what you’re saying. i dunno. i doubt the angels would rebrand to something they have already done in the past because how do you sell a throwback jersey if it becomes the current jersey again (although the brewers did that in a sense so it has some precedent) when you can just make a whole new logo. i think the main drive behind it was probably more that they figured out to cleverly make the q look like the old lowercase a more than any other intent. but maybe! i certainly wouldn’t be opposed to a retro-looking rebrand.

  9. Do the angels need New Jerseys and uniforms?
    Yes

But I would prefer to wait for it to happen after Arte sells (or his heirs sell) the team. I don’t want the stink of Arturo Moreno associated with any new uniforms.
