The real issue is the non Rudy minutes.

2nd ranked defense when he is on the court

30th ranked defense when he is off the court.

  1. I think what people really want is a secondary creator that is not Julius Randle and if that person can dribble the ball up the floor that’d be a plus.

  2. Biggest issue has been, and will continue to be, backup center. Naz isn’t a center, I love him, but he just isn’t a center. We could seriously benefit from a high energy, defensive big man with at least a little offensive upside.

  3. I think the answer is to swap DDV for a more natural point guard. I personally wouldn’t be in a huge rush to shake up the entire roster. He just hasn’t been that good and clearly hes a natural 2 guard and wont ever be able to be that on this team

  4. I want someone on the perimeter who can dribble and shoot, julius is okay but he slows the game down

  5. The two issues can coexist. The wolves have never learned how to reduce turnovers consistently, and the flow offense doesn’t help anyone

  6. They need both. Backup center is definitely the bigger need, but they could use another wing/guard

  7. yeah we need another center.but our no pg and playmaking have always been exposed by chip caliber teams.we look so clueless and low iq against them.we literally overdribble on iso and turnover or pass but nobody has courage to finish.maybe a real solid pg with high iq can run plays on court

  8. My take on this is that Finch’s strat, given the roster, is to defend like crazy when Rudy is on and maintain offense when Rudy is off. Unfortunately, that’s very difficult to do for the players playing the game. They get too used to the game flow.

In my opinion, what needs to improve, is the perimeter defensive effort even when Rudy is on the floor. Defensive intensity breeds offensive concentration. In other words, if ya work hard on defense, you’re more active on offense. The opposite isn’t true.

If a guy takes a shift off on defense, I’d personally like Finch to sit them down for an extended period.. for anyone. Leonard Miller, Johnny, Joan.. set the tone that it isn’t acceptable plus give the deeper bench some go.

That said, I like Finch. I like his passion for winning. I do question rotations. From the way outside looking in, my guess is that he has some ego and it manifests by having favorite players.

  9. I don’t think advanced stats show the whole picture. Our offense is 15.3 points per 100 possessions better with Randle on the floor. We all criticize his offense but these are Jokic-level advanced stats.

  10. We have a great starting lineup. We need a bench badly. A backup ball handler and big man would do wonders for the team. I’m at the point where I’m willing to trade all our young players for one

  11. Someone to eat non-Gobert minutes is far and away the biggest need on this team. Apparently its not Beringer.

  12. It’s not either or. We have more than one issue. People can want a PG and not have that be at the exclusion of all else.

And everyone says we need a PG because we are dead last in clutch time T/Os, we have issues getting the ball up the court against pressure, and Ant is much better off the ball, when someone can actually find him for a bucket.

  13. Watch the games. In tight games against good defense, the amount of stupid turnovers we make in the 4th quarter is enough to show us a glimpse into the playoffs without someone who can calmly bring the ball up the floor without turning it over
