Not with Bettman there
The Winter Classic has never been held in Canada. Highly doubt that changes.
You mean heritage classic
Wouldn’t it be the heritage classic since its 2 Canadian teams?
I think it could be neat if the size of the rink greatly expands to fill the outdoor arena. Of course, it would completely change the game but it would be interesting at least. Or they should build strategically located outdoor hockey arenas fit for purpose.
Could they make it work in/vs Ottawa on the Rideau?
Molson stadium in downtown Montréal!!
Dude that posts videos of him and his dog watching Blue Jays games from his balcony would love this.
They wouldn’t be able to open the roof, they would most likely have it a BMO field like they had the Centennial classic.
Parc jean drapeau would be a much more scenic venue
The Dome lid can only safely operate at certain temperatures. I think they only open it after a few consecutive days of +10C weather. The Skydome also only has one roof, they should have reprompted their AI before posting lol
This is a freakingly huge ice
Or they should play it on a lake without spectators
Leafs – Wings
Leafs – Habs
Habs – Bruins
These games are must haves – no matter what name they go under.
It would be amazing, but I’ve heard the Skydome isn’t winterized, so it isn’t capable of handling something like this.
The real answer: Skydome is not an all-weather stadium. You can’t open the roof in the winter; the damage from the resulting flooding would be catastrophic. Per [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Centre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Centre) “the stadium was designed as a closed structure with a roof that opens, and as such, the interior was not intended or built to deal with weather, including low temperatures and drainage.'”
For that scale the rink would have to be the size of a football field.
Hairpin at Gilles Villeneuve
Just some where its Cold and not freaking Sommer…. wtf.
Nah fuck Toronto
That matchup would be unreal, but it would be a Heritage Classic, not a NHL Winter Classic. The Winter Classic is basically a U.S. broadcast product (originally built around NBC), so it’s almost certainly never leaving the States.
And honestly, that’s fine. The Winter Classic has kind of become a joke anyway. It used to actually feel like winter — snow, elements, gritty outdoor hockey, like two NHL teams showing up at a local rink and just dealing with it.
Now it’s just another outdoor game with sunshine, players pulling up in Lamborghinis and Hawaiian shirts, and zero connection to the season it’s supposed to represent. This year really proved that.
The Heritage Classic has way more soul. When Canada does outdoor hockey, it still feels authentic.
Stop saying things that make sense…
A Habs/Leafs game there even with the roof closed makes more sense than having an outdoor game in Florida. Money over logic.
Leafs pulled their goalie because their losing? This checks out.
Best I can do for you is Chicago vs Utah. – Bettman, probably
Not sure whatever AI created this picture understands the difference in scale between a hockey rink and a baseball stadium lol. This ice would be monstrous
Why? Why not in Montreal? Montreal is the only city in Canada with an NHL team and the only city with Original-6 team never to host an outdoor NHL game. They could do that at Molson stadium, at Gilles-Villeneuve, or build from scratch at the old Hippodrome.
In addition, I read that Rogers Center didn’t have adequate drainage inside for rain or snow.
Yes, but also Montréal in the hairpin on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
Have you SEEN the setups they have used in baseball stadiums? Your fans are all like 1/2 mile too close to the ice.
Nah fuck T.O do it in Montreal!
Skydome*
Isn’t that the skydome?
Won’t Happen. Rogers Centre’s roof isn’t able to open in under 10°C weather. It’s been a consideration in the past but there’s a reason the Leafs played their outdoor game @ BMO field.
as cool as that would be, i dont think its possible since the dome has no drainage.
BMO Field would be amazing as well. WOuld be much better to watch the game there than the dome
Yes, but under only one condition.
Mr. Bettman should be forbidden from entering.
However, I would only allow him to watch a Hockey game outside in Arizona under 40c+ with no sunroof because he likes to watch games in non-traditional U.S. markets.
Only if we beat the living shit out of the laffs – televised, and see the leafs fans leave early.
Tant que Bettman va être là, oublie ça… il déteste les francophones, Montréal et Québec
Yes, if they want ratings. That’s a way to do it.
I honestly want to see Winnipeg vs. Calgary/Edmonton at a venue in Saskatchewan.
Do people realize how small the rink will be? No where near this size lol
Disagree. No one wants to watch the Leafs. Habs vs KHL champions would be more fun. Fr fr

In the big O while the roof is still wide open
