Asante Samuel weighs in on Cam Newton’s claim that Drake Maye isn’t a “game changer”

  1. Let’s not fight Cam’s lying with more lying.

Cam clearly needs clicks and likely $$$ for some reason

  2. You don’t have to lie to make cam look bad

He was an NFL MVP lmfao. Why do exactly what he’s doing?

  3. I won’t bother linking the entire Twitter thread but basically Asante Samuel goes on to argue that Cam Newton can’t be considered a “game changer” based on just one great season when the rest of his career wasn’t that impressive (in Asante Samuel’s opinion of course).

And he also argues that aside from Cam’s single great season, he’s actually not that different from the QBs Cam criticizes as “game managers” because Cam wasn’t a great passer.

  4. lol, as much as cam newton can be dick, he was generational player, who’s injuries finally caught up to him.

  5. why is Cam such a hater on Drake, am I missing something? Sucks because I like Cam Ward, but come on man

  6. Great Patriot and helped us win but after his BB takes I hate seeing his name pop up lol it was Brady AND Bill that’s why we won

  7. I disagree with Asante. Cam Newton was way more than what people are trying to say he was. In Carolina he accounted for well over 73 percent of that team’s offense. Very few quarterbacks are in a situation where they need to do that and completely flop if they are. All Newton did was lead his team to the playoffs for four years in a division where Matt Ryan and Drew Brees were the other two QBs in that division.

You gotta respect Cam Newton as a player, but this media radio guy Cam is a click bait/rage baiter at best. He’s poor at his job.

  8. The sad thing is that Drake was a huge Cam fan and Cam is too childish to be an unbiased commentator, and he clearly has something against Drake for some dumb reason

  9. Sports media has never been worse. It’s all about stirring the pot, being the contrarian, annoying a fanbase you know will engage. Guys like Cam, Ryan Clark, Stephen A, it’s not about talking actual sports, it’s about being bombastic, getting attention and engagement.

  10. Cam was a physical specimen who never really bothered to learn the QB position at a high level. You saw towards the end his inability to diagnose a blitz or any of the other myriad of issues when it comes to the mental aspect of the QB position. When he was in his prime his was a great two way threat but once the body broke down he didn’t have the skill to be a pocket passer

  11. I’d much rather have a QB that’s a franchise changer, season changer. Couldn’t care less about the players who make sensational plays a few times a game but don’t carry a season on their backs.

  12. Too bad Asante didn’t catch that one interception, huh? That would have been the biggest game changer in football history.

  13. It’s wild how many people have commented here who have completely missed the point of Samuel’s tweets.

  14. Not mentioned enough, Cam Newton was actually heading into his mental high as a quarterback from an IQ standpoint the year his body began to start breaking down, specifically his shoulder on his throwing arm. Cam Newton was completing a career-high 68 percent of his passes in Norv Turner’s offense.

We didn’t really get to see him in his peak as a player because he was pretty much done physically before his 30th birthday.

  15. Even though Asante got beef with Belichick he still supports Pats players old and new . Would’ve been a Pats HOF player if he makes that SB INT
