  1. I’m ready to be hurt again

But for real, I don’t think it happens. I’m expecting a Moncada/Urias type addition as the last bat and signing a $5 million or so depth lefty SP as their only other additions.

But offer Suarez 3 years and $20 million a year and see if he takes it. He’s far too old for me to be okay with going 4 years, but $20 million a year should absolutely be workable with this team.

  2. I don’t want Suarez especially if it’s 3 years. I don’t really want him at 2 years because I’m expecting a full season lost lockout in 27.

  3. Did we “try” we traded one of our young pitchers to get Lowe? Or did we “try” when we signed O’Hearn. Seriously, people on this sub just want to bitch to bitch. Why are you even fans of the team?

  4. Why should I care if they have to pay more at 3 years, or go to 4 years. Someone is going to sign him. Just. Get. It. Done.

  5. Give him 4 years. Who cares. They’re still gonna be mediocre if they don’t get him and they’re gonna be ass in 4 years regardless of what happens. You need a 3B right now and you need a DH 2 years from now. Get it done for once.

Literally anything maximizes Skenes is smart business. Have they learned nothing from the other local teams. When you have a generational talent, you mortgage your future

  7. Face it. Triolo is gonna be the full time third baseman and next season is already down the liberty tubes. 78 win squad.

  8. Pirates will have to overpay to get free agents based on an extremely poor reputation with the players. You reap what you sow.

  9. Buccos could probably set themselves apart and offer 4 years. A decent enough 3B who will also be a solid DH. He could probably anchor the bottom half of the lineup and if he produces near career average, the addition of this bat could propel the Pirates into contention. When you consider what the team is probably going to look like in 3 years, an overpaid 40 year old will be the least of their problems. If they’re serious about winning, it has to be now, and unfortunately they’re painted into a corner as far as 3B goes.

  10. If they’re not going to offer $10M over the rest, don’t waste your time. Matching every other teams offer is not trying.

  11. Stop it. This is disgusting. We can’t make FA come here if they don’t want to.

  12. I’ve never seen a sports sub so pitiful. What are yinz really discussing here?!
    . insanity.

  13. Dammit Mackey! Cmon man – not smart business. You think we haven’t been having to watch and suffer through the ultimate “not smart business” i.e. fielding a horrible mlb team for most of the last 30 years. Whatever it takes they need to get the deal done. They NEED him. And if it goes sour then what – they gotta throw in a good prospect to trade him and we gotta watch a few years of 60 win teams, been there many times before. What a sackless bunch of crap.

  14. I don’t want to go to four years on him. I could see overpaying a bit to lure him, but no four years.

  15. Oh so what if it’s 20 million a year. Just get the guy. Who is this apologist writing the article? They do have the money!

  16. So excited to write your snarky post that you didn’t even spell the guy’s name right. I’ve been there

  17. Man losing out on Okamoto hurts – he would have been a much better fit. Still would be excited if we got Suarez though.

  18. I like when people here say stuff like “im not comfortable with four years” or talking about how eating a fourth year or how “we may have to overpay on three years” blah blah blah.

This is literally a game with NO SALARY FLOOR OR CAP. for gods sake this is a sport where we laugh about Bobby Bonilla getting paid millions when he hasn’t touched a bat in how long? The only thing stopping any owners from inking a deal saying “we are paying Joe Smith a Million Bajillion dollars is that isnt a real amount of money.

What on earth do you mean overpaying? Or uncomfortable with the fourth year. If you want to argue that there are general going rates for players of a certain ability thats fine. But it is also pretty well understood that the pirates are going to need to overpay to some extent in order to show that they are serious about actually coming out of the basement, spending and contending.

  19. If the Pirates want to land a big name they are going to have to over pay. They have long standing history of not treating players well and losing. If they want to get over the hump it is going to cost money and lots of it.

And I don’t think Nutting has the nuts to do it.

  20. If I have to watch triolo for a whole season I’m going to be admitted to a mental hospital
