He’s on pace for 50 points and 20 goals I know only 5 better than the last but he’s been way better defensively and that’s 50 points in 65 games which isn’t as bad so is it a somewhat bounce back?

  1. it’s been the best he’s looked since asg, he still tends to look invisible at times but he’s doing more alien things and his underlying stats are good too

  2. It’s only a bounce back ish if he is back to 100 points next season. Otherwise it’s the new normal.

  3. Point-wise he’s on a similar pace to last year, which isn’t great. But from the eye test and advanced stats he’s been a lot better. Still not what we hoped for, but a better step

If he had a better supporting cast he’d be back to around PPG IMO. Landing McKenna or Stenberg could revitalize him

  4. I would venture to say his revenge tour is not going as planned.

He has been better and flashes of his capabilities are there.
Just not consistent enough and is invisible many nights. But then some nights he lights it up. Idk.

  5. If he played 82 games at this pace, it would be 24 goals and 62 points. That’s still extremely disappointing for a guy you’re paying over 11 million a year.

  6. He has been better than last year for the most part. But no. He is still underperforming.

  7. i dont mean to be a cliche negative canucks fan but he is not the same player. He’s decent but he’s not a superstar anymore. its unfortunate. i really wish he would turn up again but we will see.

  8. He’s a solid player now….where 8.5M would feel like the right contract. Not sure if we ever will have a 100 point superstar again. That being said if his game continues to evolve he would be an important veteran piece as a 2C centre when we are complete the rebuild- and his contract will look ok then.

  9. He’s on a 62 point pace over 82 games. By that metric, this would still be the second worst season of his career, after last season. He’s only doing slightly better than last season right now. He’s also been streaky with periods of nothing, like last season. I wouldn’t call it a bounce back.

  10. Still disappointing for the amount he’s getting paid.
I expect at the very least 80 points for an 11 million dollar player. That’s just me.

  11. He has 9 goals half way thru the season, that’s horrible. He is who he is now, he can barely skate.

  12. I’m not sure I totally see what everyone else’s sees. He has a couple moments a game where he’s just gliding, he isnt shooting nearly enough.

Sure it’s better than last year but this guy is getting double digits for far better than this. This is almost 2 years now.

  13. He’s tasked with being the primary shutdown centre while needing to be over PPG with no play driving wingers. The fact he’s keeping his head above water is admirable

  14. I love Petey but no, he’s not back. Not even close. I still have hope he can get back though. His contract dictates it but my optimism kicks in when I see his flashes because he was so dominant but then reality hits and I get concerned and lose hope. Life as a Canucks fan.

  15. He hasn’t disgraced himself. I’ve had this conversation for a few years now. He’s a very good pro hockey player. He hasn’t turned out to be the “future thermonuclear weapon” that Friedman called him in his breakout year.
I thought we had a top 5 guy at one point. He isn’t that. He’s playing pretty well as a 2nd liner on a 4th rate team. Can’t call that a bounce back.

  16. 50 points for a player who should be an 11.6 million dollar scoring and gamebreaking machine.

No – our fans are so delusional – bounceback?!

    It’s a disaster season.

Let me break it down for you,

90 to 100+ points is a great season for EP40

    70 to 90 is a good season

    60 to 70 is a poor season.

    50 points is a disaster.

  17. Last year 65 games: 45 points

This year 65 games (at pace): 48 points

Not exactly a “revenge” season. On the other hand he does generally look better, has more responsibilities and well-rounded.

If he can be a 20 goal, 70 point guy who stands a chance of Selke consideration on average then I guess that’s the floor we could have reasonably expected from the start.

  18. No hate, but it’s time to move on, can’t have him suck up so much oxygen from the team.

  19. No but better. Definitely has flashes but he’s so slow, and glides a lot. I honestly wonder how well he’s liked in the room. Don’t kill me over that just an honest question.

  20. He still doesn’t seem like the same player. He’s got no legs. When was the last time Petey beat someone one-on-one?
