The last team in the conference, the Blue Jackets, are only behind the 2WC by 5pts.

  1. It’s literally anyone’s game, the western conference is much more stratified

  2. Chucky back in the next week or so.
Kuli, gadjo and nosek maybe back in 2-3 months.
    Barky maybe back for playoffs.
They probably need one more winger(kiefer Sherwood) and one more RHD(Connor Murphy or rasmus ristolinen)
Make the playoffs and hope Bob gets hot.

  3. I like our chances. Going in we all said make it to .500 and stay in the race. Well we’re on the edge of a playoff spot, above .500, we made it through the hardest part of our schedule, and we haven’t gotten anyone back yet. We’re poised well just have to execute.

ETA throwing to the Canadians really fucking stings right now though if we were at 48 behind 50 we’d be right there.

  4. **Overall Thoughts:** I thought December was a fairly good month for us all things considered. Our road-trip out West yielded good results scooping up 6/8 points with the best performance being shutting down Dallas. We came back home and got more points including two brilliant 3rd period comebacks against the Hurricanes to continue to torture their fanbase. Then things got a little funky. A hard fought loss to Tampa in a great game hurts in this division, got it back vs the Caps, but blowing a late 2-0 lead vs Montreal and whatever that was during the Winter Classic vs the Rangers… only for this team to the Bruins and Islanders as the only ones to beat the Avalanche in regulation **AT THE HALFWAY POINT** of this year. We’re an enigma, Jerry.

**A Daunting Road-Trip -** We have an 8-7-0 record away from Sunrise this season. We are going to learn A LOT about what this team is made of over the next month. **9 of our next 10 games are on the road.** Our next 4 opponents are all in the Atlantic Division. Despite *a little* separation being found, by-and-large, you skyrocket to the top of the standings with a good week or sink to second to last place in the Conference with a bad one. Every game counts.

**More Injuries & Reinforcements? -** Seth Jones taking a puck up high vs the Rangers *hurts*. We still don’t know his status or how bad that injury is. If it’s a collarbone as people fear.. yikes. That’s something we precisely needed to avoid. What about all our guys who’ve already been out? Kulikov is still months away. We’ve had 0 status on Nosek. Tkachuk is practicing in a yellow jersey and HOPEFULLY can comeback some point this month. Barkov is skating again but still a good way’s away.

I’ve reiterated all season “just be .500 until Tkachuk comes back”. It certainly seems like we’re gonna accomplish that. Unfortunately, the whole NHL has been much better than I anticipated this year. The reality is, we’ve been a bang .500 squad this season for the most part. A 37-year old Marchand has done some serious heavy lifting. Bobrovsky has had his major struggles. I’m hesitant to say how much a Tkachuk coming right back from injury can lift us into going on a run. I know he’d do wonders for our PP and maybe that in and of itself could elevate us but I can’t say I’m *expecting* a playoff birth with how the East is this year and all the bodies we’ve had get banged up. The next month will be very telling.

  5. The East is really weird this season. I think we grab a WC spot and see what our health is in the playoffs. I genuinely feel like missing the playoffs, an exit in any playoff round, or winning the cup are all logical predictions at this point.

  6. We just need some form of consistency. Im fairly confident in our teams ability to win, we need other to lose.

  7. Obviously its due to injuries, but our forth line, unlike previous years, is absolutely invisible. Kunin and Studnika looked good to start, but have faded, 53 looking like he cant even get a puck deep. Schwindt looked great before the injury. Boqvist needs help down there.

Chuckys return will be big because it puts greer back in his checking role to give juice to that fourth line

  8. I think given the injuries to not only Barky and Chucky but EVERYONE else, I’m pretty content with where they’re at today. One point out of a WC when things were looking shaky a couple months ago.

As long as they can kinda keep this up and go on another little heater streak and get some regulars back in that are fully healthy, it’ll be like a ton of big deadline acquisitions 😂
