[Rick Dhaliwal] Braeden Cootes is being traded to Prince Albert.

  1. I wish Dhaliwal hadn’t included the “To Prince Albert” part of this tweet for maximum chaos.

  2. Great move for Cootes, Prince Albert is one of the top teams in the WHL while Seattle is near the bottom. Great chance for him to get one more shot at a Mem Cup before he turns pro

  3. Dhali also kinda let it slip that the team is going to use the new CBA rules and likely going to have him in the AHL next year, instead of Jr.

*Pending he does not make the Canucks

  4. Explain this to me for somebody who doesn’t know anything about the WHL?

Like do teams in the WHL go all in on seasons?

    I primarily watch the NCAA

  5. Nothing prepares you more for the streets of Vancouver than the streets of pa baby

  6. Ahh Prince Albert Saskatchewan. At least he’ll be ready for the streets of Vancouver. Also, on a side note, Prince Albert is famous for its high crime rate and also a rock that tends to take out vehicles.

  7. Should be a good move for Cootes but its so strange to me that you can make kid that makes basically no money move to a different city. I’m also guessing he had the option to say no but chose to go play for a winner.

  8. I know y’all hate Sask in here but being from Saskatoon I’m pumped I’ll be able to catch a few games and watch!

  9. I am a season ticket holder of the Raiders. I am hoping this is going to work out great! Raiders have been a wagon all year. They have a super deep, fast team. They have young studs and great vets. They also typically do not sell the farm to go all in when they are good. They didn’t do it when they won the WHL championship in 2019 and I hope they didn’t do it now. Really interested to see the return. They are very well run and have a great, young coaching staff. Their head coach is 37. He won gold as the head coach for Canada Team Red at the 2025 U17 World Championships and gold as an assistant for Canada White in 2024.

As I said, they are a deep team. They have 8, 10 goal scorers already this year and 4 more with 8 or 9. Of the other teams with the best offences in the league, Medicine Hat has 6, 10 goal scorers, Edmonton also 8 and Everett 5. They have 7, 30 point players, Medicine Hat has 5, Edmonton has 4 and Everett has 6.

They’ve also got a defenceman, Daxon Rudolph that should go around 10 OA this season. And 5(!) other players ranked by Central Scouting for this draft. Another young defenceman, Brock Cripps, is currently rated in the 5-10 OA for the 2027 draft.

They are also community owned team, which is super cool. And they one of the [loudest, best arena](https://whlarenaguide.com/raiders.htm)’s in the entire CHL. Really excited to see the full trade and see the Raiders keep rolling.

Edit – Ok, [this](https://chl.ca/whl/article/cam-on-down-thunderbirds-swoop-in-with-massive-trade-for-stars-prospect-schmidt/) is very odd. Thunderbirds just made a trade for a very high end goal scorer in Cameron Schmidt. The gave up defenceman [Kaleb Hartmann](https://chl.ca/whl/players/29137/), a first-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, a second and fifth-round pick in 2027, a first-round pick in 2028 and a conditional 2028 fourth-round pick.

Seems odd Thunderbirds would do that if they just traded away Cootes.

  10. Should have top PP minutes at the WJC, I’m wagering some $$$ prevented that from happening.
