New Orleans Pelicans Could Be TRAPPED by Zion Williamson’s Contract Guarantees
New Orleans Pelicans face an uncertain future as Zion Williamson’s contract situation tightens the organization’s options. Is the team stuck with a star whose on-court performance and unique contract structure make moving on nearly impossible? The episode spotlights Zion’s playing time, the intricacies of his rolling guarantees, and why playing well may inadvertently force the Pelicans into an uncomfortable corner—unable to trade, waive, or rebuild as intended.
Jake Madison explores whether the Pelicans fear losing a Zion Williamson trade, dissecting league perceptions, defensive woes, and the struggle to build around a one-of-one power forward. Key topics include the team’s defensive lapses, roster construction challenges, and the ongoing search for Zion’s ideal position. Are the Pelicans ready to break from this era and transform their culture, or will apprehension keep them stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference? Don’t miss this decisive analysis of New Orleans’ franchise crossroads.

Zion’s ideal role in my opinion is a scoring punch off the bench.
I hope Zion moves on to play for a contender
Zion to GS for Kuminga and Podziemski
orZion and Jose' to GS for Kuminga, Moody, and their '26 First.
Dump Poole and Hawk for expiring.
1. Murray; Jose; Fears
2: Herb; Podziemski, McGowens
3: 3M3; Bey, Peavy
4: Kuminga; Karlo
5: Missi; Looney, Jordan
Zion is not same time line of queen fears
The never ending Zion conundrum.
BI balling in Toronto
They won't do what's necessary, and that's sit players who don't want to try on defense, and they don't have the opportunity to get another practice until after Valentines day, they're stuck.
The team sucks. The organization sucks. It's been mismanaged for many years players come there either get hurt or their careers are stuck until they get traded or cut! Trade Zion he'll be a much happier and better player elsewhere. Look at what that trade did for Brandon Ingram.
Your obsession with Zion is really weird. He's still the best player on this team by far. You've wanted him gone forever. What did he do to you??? Your new wife must be a Zion fan or something.
This Coach has never seen Zion as a point guard and why he needs to be FIRED. Anyone who cannot see that and know that is worthless meaning the whole PELS organization. The owner clearly uses the team for a tax write off
I'm not sure if Jake is aware that Zion is way more expensive than Jokic, SGA, and Curry…etc in a per game basis. In his past 6 yrs, Zion play 35-40 games per season on average. His next year salary will be $42M. So he is being paid >$1M per game. Jokic, SGA, and Curry played 70 games last year and they are being paid $50-60M per year, so <$1M per game. Is Zion better than Jokic, SGA, and Curry? Not by a long shot. The best thing Pelicans should do is just cut him before he plays >40 games this season. Save ~$34M next season and move on.
