Sam and Matt have a thoughtful conversation on the Imai fall out. They discuss the micro/macro Cubs approach and how payroll/ownership hover over every miss they have in free agency.

If we do land gallen would we try to trade taillon for prospect because when Steele comes back we will have 6 starters
HELLLOOOO!!!!
BORAS AND BREGMAN ARE USING THE CHICAGO CUBS GOR LEVERAGE OVER GHE RED SOX!!!!! They have for two years now!!!!
If you sign Bregman and Gallen, then you get to keep your young talent!!!! Whoa!!!
I'm not at all surprised at "lack or market for Tucker." You did watch him from August on? He was dreadful, and he's injury prone, and he's seeking a crazy high payout. I have zero interest in committing long term to this dude. Thanks for a solid season, and some exciting memories in April-June. I own your jersey now, so yay me. Love the show as always!!!
The contracts with opt-outs after every year are killing free agency. Maybe 1 opt-out every 3 years?
Yeah I do remember when the Jumbotron, and all the advertising space, including the helmet and jersey, were to add to the big-market team. Them wanting to buy another professional team should tell us everything!! 1. They have enough to buy it, and still have plenty of money.
2. They know they can make enough profit (not breaking even!!) to make it worth it!! The way Ricketts runs this team, has made me decide to not watch everyday, and subscribe.
They need help from an everyday normal people. Or maybe they don’t. Maybe we should be fans. And keep going and buying all the products or not spend your money. Always follow the money.
This organization is a major disappointment
ALL Chicago sports franchise front offices treat the fans like stupid Marks, and the people eat the bowls of shit like ice cream and are grateful for it.
They do just enough to get ppl horny, thinking that the team is going somewhere, which the team embarrass itself in the end.
Marks think, “maybe NEXT year!” 🙄
Valdez crossing up his catcher is and should cost him alot of money. He won’t get more than 160. Maybe 120/130.
Tucker will prob get 3 for 100 opt-outs.
Bregman will sign with Boston
for 5 -155ish.
Ranger 5-110/115
Belli 5- 115
5 years is plenty. At the age of 30/31
The players / agents asks are unrealistic a lot of times, and the owners are cheap bc LAD has all the money. And it’s ONLY gonna get worse bc of greed. The owners should get rid of some of this comp pick crap, 18 years or arbitration, and players only hitting free agency once by age 28/29
If all goes right. Unless they sign out of high school.
ALSO, BORAS AND BREGMAN ARE AND HAVE BEEN USING THE CUBS FOR OEVERAGE OVER THE REDSOX FOR TWO YEARS. Publicly drop out of that and try to trade Nico(I love him too)sign Gallen and Bichette. Bichette will be better at 2B, but not nearly as good as Nico. He won’t cover near as much ground. But he hits OVER .300 and 20 bombs.
Plus Matt Shaw will get better. Caissie will hit HRs. Ballesteros will hit like a thick Mark Grace, with maybe a few more HRs. And with all this technology? Make your strength and conditioning/training/stretching better. Injuries are a part. But take time ramping these guys up, and slowing them down…everyday and for the season.
Dude , are we gonna get a free agent or what? What the hell is going on
Robots in the field🤣
Im disappointed to the point I wont go to to a game . I see no reason why I should give money to Ricketts when he doesn't give money to the Cubs to I improve
Ricketts wants to run the Cubs like they pirates
I truly believe that even with the no trade clauses Happ and Suziki will be traded. I dont think they will get Gallon. I see the 3 Sp that will be fre agents will be traded to
“Idk if I’m good with it but I understand why they aren’t good with it” Is this guy Matt serious? He was going on and on the other day about how he felt it was the right move by the Cubs to not make the deal. The guy literally served as a mouthpiece for Jed Hoyer throughout that entire show. He went on and on about how the offseason isn’t over and there needs to be patience. Matt, this isn’t a good look for you. Thanks Sam for calling him out because I feel like Matt was being absolutely ridiculous in that last show. Like Sam said, he repeatedly said the Cubs needed to make moves and spend. Now he’s Mr. Patience. Has Jed reached out to the guy or something? Like come on Matt, be consistent
Whatever became of the Sandy Alcantara trade talk? I never hear his name mentioned anymore?
I'm all in on signing Bellinger.
It is getting quite frustrating, the fact that both Imai and Okamoto's projected prices came down so much, and they still wouldn't go all in on them. Argh
Boo the shit out jed and tom
Don't we know? They spend the most in the division and they want to profit. They should spend more.
Cubs will not sign anyone else will wait until 2027 let Nico go Happ and suzuki
Ricketts are cheap!!!
Cubs should look to shore up their bench first
I havnt bought a ticket, jersey or a hat or anything since 18’. They go cheap I do my part not to give back to the Ricketts pockets. Fans dictate ownerships spending! Ticket sales, concessions, merchandise. Simple economics!
Another problem with Jed's "calculations" is that ACTUAL baseball players are coming off the board. All the time. As it stands, if the Cubs have to trade Shaw to get Cabrera, then they need to go back to Houston and get Isaac Paredes. I think he has a $9M contract or so (9.3) and is rumored to be shopped around. Houston has too many infielders already. He hit 20 dingers last year with less than 400 ABs and plays good defense and has been an All Star. He had 31 HRs in 2023. As to getting ANOTHER left handed starter? That's a no go. Steele, Suarez, Shote, Boyd are all lefties and throw in Horton. If Horton gets hurt? Go get Gore and we can have FIVE starting pitchers who are all lefties. I'll take Gallen and Bichette for 100 Alex.
Ricketts is too concerned about turning wrigley into a tourist destination…turns out he’s about 40 years too late – it already was. Yes, it’s a business, but if this business continues to turn its back on its consumers (known as fans in this business), guess what happens to that business…we’re back to the days of the announcers being overjoyed with getting close to .500 ball.
See you guys at cubs con!
80-82 if they’re lucky. The Ricketts family is a disease. Cancel Marquee. Don’t go to games. Boo players and coaches. The first luxury tax is 190,000 dollars. Tom Ricketts has stolen playoff appearances and Pennants over 190,000 dollars. Never forgive. Never forget.
As long as Wrigley is where it is and the bars are there, the Cubs will always be there. We as true fans get hurt because no matter how hard the locals try to stay home and make a point, too many tourists and those who can care less to grab those free ones and have the time of their lives. Truth, and it hurts BIG TIME
Then LOWER THE FUCKING TICKET PRICES!
