Cheveldayoff Speaks — Still No Answers

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke with the media Monday morning, and the disappointment and despair were evident.

Cheveldayoff offered few concrete answers to the burning questions surrounding the last-place Jets, but he did assure the fan base that no one is standing pat and that every option is being examined to improve the team.
Has the season been an unmitigated disaster? Are the Jets willing to risk placing a player on waivers? Could call-ups from the minors be on the way? Are changes coming behind the bench? How secure does Cheveldayoff feel in his role? How does he evaluate his offseason decisions? And why hasn’t a trade been made?

Cam and Jim break it all down, digging into Cheveldayoff’s comments and offering their own perspective on everything said during his scheduled mid-season availability.

  1. "Ya know ya know ya know" Yeah – we the fans know that this fucking clown need to lose his job and Mark Chipman needs to intervene and put his Portage Place pet project on the back burner for a month – because all his energy is going into lobbying all three levels of government into his $25 million dollar ask into Portage Place. This management is a joke and making Winnipeg Enterprises look like geniuses.

  2. Chevy's just like Bettman goes into the media and says a lot of nothing. Chevy in any other organization would've been fired years and years ago.

  3. Toth’s analysis of this team is worse than cheveldayoff is at being a GM.

There were LARGE sections of the fanbase who were upset with Chevys acquisitions at the deadline last season AND the offseason this year.

The jets are 32nd and have a 9% playoff chance according moneypuck and toth is talking about TRADING PICKS?!? Gtfoh you dishonest mouthpiece

  4. You know what separates a good team from a bad team in the NHL? Consistency. Every player in the NHL can bust out a game breaking play at some point in their career. The good players can do it consistently. Good teams play their system consistently, bad teams can’t, for a variety of reasons. And that sounds like the Jets right now to a T.

  5. STOP. Stop trying to quick fix this team. There’s no quick fix. Just stop. We’re in a rebuild whether you want to admit it or not, whether the Jets acknowledge it or not. You’re talking about screwing our future to try to fix something that can’t be fixed. You have to look way further down the road than next year. We need to start petitioning the team for a rebuild. The other option is still a rebuild, but a much longer turnaround.

  6. Who actually thought Chevy would take responsibility for this circus and the clowns he brought in. He said he still has passion for the game so he should keep his job 😂 At this point he’s right to do nothing. The last thing this franchise needs to do this season is win. Anyone who’s suspected the Jets bury young talent has been proven correct. Agents and those drafted by this team should refuse to report and insist on a trade. It’s one thing to lose your dream of playing in the show because you don’t have what it takes it’s another to see you will never be given an opportunity to grow and show what you can do in the league. F Chevy F Arniel and F Chipman. You won’t see another cent from me until management and this inept coaching staff and players are shipped out of town.

  7. You guys are coddling Chevy like he's coddling the players. If the young players come up and fail, you've now got more information.
LAMBERT knows how this team works, he wants a team that's more aggressive and will give him a chance.

  8. Really Toth a good team.? Maybe on paper. This is a very bad team with no prospects and nothing to trade for.
Chevy should stop with double speak and treat the fans with respect.
He destroyed our team, he should resign.

  9. You guys are soft man. The jets suck and its ok to admit. Its a really bad team. Just because we have Olympians on this team doesn't make the team good Jim…..

  10. I think what Chevy said publicly today is different to what he and the Jets brass talk about behind closed doors. Chevy is trying to mitigate fan panic while working the phones. He wants to make changes, but the rest of the league isn't looking to sell talent right now. The Jets can't force a dance partner until another team falls out of contention.

  11. Im gonna crash out, if I hear one more time that "This team does not suck" i swear to god. Name me even ONE other NHL team that has 5 FORWARDS with 14-30 game goalless droughts. Enough with the cheerleading, sometimes reality isnt sunshine and rainbows…

  12. I've been sour on Perfetti for 3 years, never liked Niederreiters game from day 1 and have recently soured on Lowry & DeMelo so for me all of these guyz are trade bait!!!

  13. Yes I I said front he begging when Chevy let go tanev, ehlers, Appleton, and brought in Toews, Pearson and nyquist… I said from that moment we let go people that were some what productive and brought in 3 players Chevy was banking on having rebound yrs Pearson, nyquist all did dog water they’re previous yrs. Toews was off from Covid for 2 yrs and his numbers were declining before that. It was NOT hard to tell the moves Chevy made in the off season killed this team… not to mention helle covered up major holes we had for lots of yrs and now that he’s having a bad regular season the holes show even more

  14. OmG you both are like listening to a Laurel and Hardy skit but not funny. You two need to listen to what Mike Mcintyre and Connor Hrabchuk have said about the Jets current situation. Two guys way sharper and aware of what a mess this is and that it was created by this management team “who didn’t see it coming” . Even the Scouts have failed to evaluate draft picks and FA’s in the last 7 years. What good is trading now to get more scoring? To finish 25th? It’s time to move out some valuable pieces (Nino,Iafallo,Stanley)to get more picks and play a couple of young prospects. 15 years of one person’s vision is enough. Getting a top draft pick this year can only help and it would be best selected by someone with fresh eyes!
