I know we've been leading the league in takeaways for a minute but leading the league with fewest giveaways is a fantastic stat that in my opinion has gone underreported. I know it's a pretty common theme as of late but I'm so pumped for where the Bears are headed!

But I just read that the Jets had a historic zero interceptions this year…
I think it would be a fantastic stat if there were also other stats to prove that this wasn’t just a lot of luck/other teams doing us favours with bad QB play
I would rate the turnovers a lot more if we were very high in amount of pressures, pressure rate, or sacks. Things that would actually show that we are at least somewhat ‘forcing’ these turnovers
Instead it just feels like us getting ‘lucky’ plenty of times with other teams just brainfarting. And obviously some interceptions were a bit different, where individuals made highlight plays
So overall, for me it’s very hard to judge how much credit we as a team or Dennis Allen as a DC deserve
Return this same team against a harder 1st place schedule with better QB play next year and we might be near the bottom of the League in turnovers. Without being able to get after the QB, the turnovers just don’t feel sustainable at all.
That’s winning football, that’s a cultural shift. That’s the Ben Johnson affect
Monangai has never fumbled, not in college or the NFL.
The only fumble I remember is when Ben got cute and gave it to a back up tackle on 4th and goal lol what a disaster play. He has cooled down with the weird plays tho so good for him
Williams technically led the league in fumble recoveries too
People are going to of course get all sensitive and angry but this is why I worry about major regression mext year. I want 17-0 and I want to repeat this stat next year but turnovers are the most fickle stat. They are seldomly rpeated the following years.
We have a lot of major red flags going into next year. I exoect the offense to improve quite a bit next year in year 2, and that alone could stave off major regression. But if it doesnt, I fear there will be quite a bit of regression
Given how bad our defense has been (apart from the takeaways), this is likely a primary reason we’re 11-6. That and Caleb’s late game abilities.
What worries me is that next year the takeaways dry up. Fewer short fields and momentum changes, more time with the defense on the field getting worn down.
Did I hear correctly that Kyle Monangai has never fumbled?
